2 Tables On 1 Form W/same Record Number?
Nov 2, 2004
I need to track employee training hours and employee backfill hours. I will need to see which employee was training, and the employee who filled in for him. Both will have the same info. Is there a way to use two tables on one form, and keep the record number the same in each table? I would need to be able to match the data in table 1 to the data in table 2 by record number.
I thought about one giant table, but I think it may get really confusing. Any ideas?

I would like to know if there is any procedure to restrict/stop auto number increment for certain number of record count (say 50), then increment by 1 for next 50 records.

I have a table with an autonumber field, which of course is indexed with no duplicates. Twice in recent days it has attempted to add a record with an autonumber that is not the high number - it is about 20 numbers below the high number. So we get a 'can't add this record' error.
I can fix this by copying the table to a temporary table and then copying it it back. Then the autonumber works correctly.
What can I do to prevent this? By the way we updated to Access 2010 a couple of weeks ago, but the data is still Access 2003. We are reluctant to update the data yet in case it causes more problems.

I have "Master" table with fields "Job No" and "Revision No". Both together is a primary key, so that combination of both cannot be duplicated. I have 100 other tables to be related with referential integrity(+update&delete) to Master for both fields. Apart from Job No and Revision No, all 100 tables have different set of fields which is why I had to come with so many tables.
Due to 32 limit rule, I had to come up with workaround method to have all 100 tables in the relationship. So, I created 5 other SubMaster1, SubMaster2, ...., SubMaster5 which are related to Master with relationship with referential integrity (+update&delete). Then I assigned 20 tables to each SubMaster so that 20 tables are related to each SubMaster table.
Whenever I create new record in Unit, the new record is generated in each SubMaster using update query for each SubMaster table. I have all the forms and necessary query laid out. The only missing part is being able to duplicate a record. I have limited knowledge in VBA, but I should be able to modify it to address to my requirement.
I want to copy a given record in Master, SubMasters and 100 tables as a new record. I need this feature so that I can select certain Job No and Revision No and copy that as a new Job No(assigned manually in a form) and 0 as the revision number. Possibly a button which will ask for new job number and copy everything from the active Job No and Revision No to a New Job No and "0" Revision No. The existing record may not be there on all 100 tables for the given Job No and Revision No. If it is there, then copy otherwise ignore for each of the tables.
I have a table "ItemList" which lists all the unique name of the 100 tables.

How can I add an ID-number that always increases (by 1) each time I add a new record to a table (using a form)? I want to always use some info from the record that was added last to fill in a different form. The reason for my question is that I heard that the autonumber does not necessarily increase each time a new record is added...

Is there any way that I can set the default value of a text box on a form to be what its record number is for that specific form? Basically I want the default value to be the number that shows on the bottom of the form in the navigation section. Thanks for the help.

I have a Form with data entry property = No. If a user clicks the page down button accidently, this could move the form to the next record even when cycle property = current record. I want to create a macro that fires a message whenever the user clicks page down and moves to the next record.
Question1:Is there an event that is somehow linked to a user moving into the next record.
Question2: Alternatively is there a way I can store the record number in a form textbox. How can the record number be captured via a simple macro action ?

Started a new thread: Rebuilt database and still working with auto number for multi user form. The code I have works for single user but not multi user. Also if someone opens the form and closes without adding anything to the form the number is used with blank record.
This is what I have thus far:
Private Sub Form_Current() Me.[PO] = Nz(DMax("[PO]", "tblPurchaseOrder"), 0) + 1
End Sub

I want to create a form that incorporates a number of different tables & tabs. When I switch tabs (which represent the information on the different tables) I need it to be consistent with the main table and all the information that follows it from the different tables.I've been told the best way to do that is with a parent form but I haven't been able to find an EASY step-by-step instruction on how to do that.

I have an Access2007/SQL Server 2012 system with 20 users for an insurance company. The company does most of its business via a network of vehicle dealers around the country. If someone comes in to buy a motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle at a dealership they need insurance to take it home, and our dealers send the quotes to us.
The dealers, in turn, receive payment from us each month for their efforts. Some are paid a % commission on the premium, some are paid for each quote they send regardless of whether the policy actually sells or not, and some are paid a set amount per sold policy. (Yes, that is relevant information!)
We already have reports that tally the amounts due each dealer based on their payment scheme, but last month our bookkeeper had to write about 650 checks manually because the check writing is not automated. She'd look at the report, and then enter name, address, and amount (in digits and words) into Quick Books and print the checks from there, a horribly tedious process. I've been asked to print the checks from Access. Basically one click would print all 650 checks.
I've opted to use a Make Table query to move the commissioned dealers amounts to a single location, and then to run two append queries to add the records from those paid per quote and those paid per policy. At the end of the day, one table contains all the information necessary to print the checks...except one.
The check number.
I need a way to sequentially number each record in the new table with a user generated starting point, the first check number.
By the way, the check blanks are on standard letter sized paper, three to a page, with tear-off perforations to separate them, in case that information has any relevance.
I think the best way to accomplish this is from the report itself. I've created a blank field on each record for the check number, and what seems most logical is that the sequential number is generated on print and written back to the table, rather than just generating all the numbers at once. That way, should print ever be interrupted, it will be easy to take up where we left off.

I currently have a database where new records can be entered in a "New Part" Form and Records can be viewed(but not altered) in a "Part Search" Form. The forms are the same except one is allowed to edit. I have also created another form where I am trying to search the "Part Search" Form via a tracking number. I want to have a text box where users enter a tracking number then click the button to take them to the record on the "Part Search" Form.

I am making a master form for three tables which ultimately form a hierarchy. I am getting all the fields from each table onto one form. By default the record source would be made up of an INNER JOIN such as below
SELECT PERSON.first_name, PERSON.country, PERSON.last_name, PERSON.street, PERSON.area, PERSON.city, PERSON.telephone, CONTRIBUTOR.registration_date, CONTRIBUTOR.fav_category, MUJAHED.profession FROM (PERSON INNER JOIN CONTRIBUTOR ON PERSON.id=CONTRIBUTOR.id) INNER JOIN MUJAHED ON CONTRIBUTOR.id=MUJAHED.id;
I'm trying to change the record source to match using the where clause instead. However the following allows me to view but not add a new record
SELECT PERSON.first_name, PERSON.country, PERSON.last_name, PERSON.street, PERSON.area, PERSON.city, PERSON.telephone, CONTRIBUTOR.registration_date, CONTRIBUTOR.fav_category, MUJAHED.profession
FROM PERSON, CONTRIBUTOR, MUJAHED
WHERE (PERSON.id = CONTRIBUTOR.id) AND (CONTRIBUTOR.id = MUJAHED.id);
A tip or guideline on how I can correct this will be appreciated.
Regards

I have one parent table with 6 child tables (all child tables are linked to the parent table in the relationship through the BoardID autonumber field, and they are all one-to-one relationships). All of the tables feed into one form. I have added the "add new record" button to the form, but when I click on it, it only adds a record to the parent table. The only way I have found to solve this is to go into each individual table and add a new record. Is it possible to have a new record added to every table when I click the "add new record" button on the form?

create a macro that automatically fills in the next invoice number in sequence",,I'm assuming this macro would look at the value of the previous record and add a one to itI don't want to use a AutoNumber field as I might need
(a) to modify value or
(b) need to skip numbers.

I have a form for which the Record Source is a certain table. Then on that form there is a button to display another form, which adds a new record to the same table. Then the new form is closed. The trouble is, the original form cannot search for the new record, until you close the form and reopen it.I have tried using Me.Dirty is false, and also a requery of the original form, but nothing works. Only closing the form and reopening it will display the newly added record. What can I do to make the original form recognize the newly added record?

I have a number of tables and at least 20 fields in each table, but I've simplified if for these purposes.
In my simple version, I have 1 forms and 2 sub-forms each related by a Master-ID. My forms/sub-forms all tie directly to three tables of data. see the attached. When I go to add data - all works well.
But now I want to make a simple version of this form - that only allows the user to enter new data into the 1 form with 2 sub-forms. And then updates all three tables.

My DB tracks sponsors for a non-profit organization. Demographics, sponsorship levels, tickets to events, payments, members who recruited sponsors, etc.
I have a form EditSponsors which opens from a query that draws from 3 tables SponsorshipDemographics (PK SponsorID), SponsorshipLevels (PK SponsorLevelID)and Members (PK MemberID).
I have placed a command button on the form that opens a new form PostPayment which is intended to post a payment and make the necessary changes to the sponsor’s profile.
I want to load the new entered data form PostPayment with selected fields from EditSponsors, then create a new record in the table Payments that looks like this:
PaymentID (PK, Auto)
SponsorID
SponsorLevelID
MemberID
Check#, CheckDate, PostDate, Amount (data entry)
My Problem: The 3 PK’s from the other tables do not get entered into the new record in Payments.

I want to be able to pre-fill records with information based on a form every day for each client. This needs to display in a datasheet view showing all clients for each location.
Each day the subform needs to show the expected results of that day's activity with clients if all default conditions are met. (i.e. client receives a call that day based on expected conditions calculated in a form for that day).

I currently have a pharmaceutical lot database set up in the following format:
MFGData (table w/Manufacturing Info)
QAData (table w/ Quality Assurance Info)
QCData (table w/ Quality Control Info)
PASData (table w/ Process & Analytical Science Info)
SCData (table w/ Supply Chain Info)
[Code] ....
Each table has a corresponding form for data entry in each area. The tables were subdivided in this way in order to limit each department's ability to edit the data of other departments. The only field common to each table is the drug lot number, or "Lot #" (which is the primary key of each table).
I wanted to make it so that when Manufacturing enters a new lot number on frmMFGData, it automatically creates that lot number in the other 4 tables. This process mirrors our actual real world business process, where drugs are manufactured and assigned new lot numbers by our manufacturing team, and then other departments simply reference those numbers when doing their part.
To accomplish this, I went ahead and set up 1 to 1 relationships between the various tables using their "Lot #" fields, establishing referential integrity and enabling cascading updates. However, when I attempted to enter a new lot number into frmMFGData (the manufacturing form), it didn't seem to appear in any of the other tables. If I edit an existing lot number and change it to something else, the change does carry over to the other tables, so I know that the cascading updates are working in some capacity.
If cascading updates cannot "cascade" new records, then is there any other way to accomplish this?

Other tables that use the same stock codes from the above table are
= Alerts_Stocks
= Investments01_tbl_SubForm
The table = Investments01_tbl_SubForm = can contain the same stock code many times. How can we create a query that can be used to enable us to change the stock codes in the 3 tables at the same time?

I wonder if I should create "frm_NewVisit" as unbound form, then adding fields from different tables to it and using vba to populate "tbl_Main",

I am using a template database that I downloaded from the Microsoft Access template website and have been modifying it and adding new forms and tables etc. I have used the forms wizard to create a number of new forms to edit a number of the tables. The forms are "split forms".I can't seem to get many of the forms to stay the size that I set them to! They seem to have a mind of their own and often when I think that I have sized them correctly, I then open the form and they display in full screen mode or larger!
