2 Questions 1, Move Record To A New Table 2, Prevent Changes To Design
Sep 27, 2005
1) HOw can I move a record from one talbe to another when a specific drop-down option is selected. Example: a combo box with "Active"; "Pending"; "Closed" I want all closed recoreds in a table just for closed records to reduce clutter. They're not going to be referenced often if ever, we just want them so we have them if we do need them.
2) How can I prevent changes to the design of a form/query/report/etc.
I am trying to build a db for the office I work at. And I have a few questions about how I should design it.
1. My vendor number should be an autonumber, but it has a relationship to the vendor name on a report. I cant create a relationship btwn text and autonumber.
2. Right now I have 3 main tables. Vendor, builder, and job. All of this is for the marketing aspect of the business. But I want to include other aspects, like collections and payroll. Should I add columns to the jobs table, or create a new table? For example, on the jobs table, I already have job info like details on the job and who referred it to us. Should I add invoiced amount, amount collected, etc., or create a table called collections to store all of this info? Im really confused about this.
I'm having design questions for complicated business logic. I have 4 tables, Author, Plan, Analysis, and Report. 1 or many authors can write 0, 1 or many Plans, Analysis or Reports. And a Plan, Analysis and Report (all 3) can all have a 1 or many authors associated with it. So thats the first many-to-many. To make things worst, a Plan, Analysis, or Report can have 0, 1, or many Plan, Analysis, or Reports associated with it. In other words, a Plan be associated with a 0, 1 or many Analysis or Reports. An Analysis can be associated with 0, 1 or many Plans or Reports. A Report can be associated with 0, 1 or many Plans or Analysis. So I have 4 entities with all many-manys between them.
So by following traditional rules I would have 4 tables with 6 linking tables (author to plan, author to analysis, author to report, plan to analysis, analysis to report, plan to report). Is there a way to combine multiple linking tables into one or two linking tables shared between the 4 tables. Say one linking table between from author to plan, analysis and report and another linking table between plan, analysis and report? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. If I had schema view like in access that would give me so much help. Thanks in advance!
ok ive read some responses to people having trouble or need to know how to move a record from one table to another... i have two tables. One with member and another with thier siblings. i have two forms. one with the member details which contain a command box to open the other form for their siblings. the siblings form is a tabular form so when i double clikc the siblings form i can all the children but when i open it from a specific member only their children are shown. each member has a memberID (primary key). but the siblings have the same ID as their father(member)
i have put a commmand box in the siblings form next to every sibling. what i want is that when i click this button the record moves to the members column.
i only know the very basics of VB...so a step by step explination would be helpful...
this is very specific and if more information is required please ask here or ask for my msn address.
Hi, New to forum. Beginner/Intermediate Access Experience.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
The database i am creating will basically need to have a user check-off a list of Fire Extinguishers that he has checked, on a monthly basis. For example, the user will enter a date, and then a form with a list of all the extinguishers will pop up, and he will place a check mark by each one. When he enters the check mark, that date will be stored so that we have a history of when each extinguisher was checked and by whom (using initials or something)
Currently, my design is simple, something like this:
My question is this: -Am I going down the right track with the 2 tables? -Do I need a third table to Store the Historical Data? -I am not quite sure how to layout the form so that all the extinguishers are listed.
I know these questions may seem vague, but any help would by highly appreciated. thank you.
I have attached a copy of an excel sheet that my company has been using since the ice age. I would like to set up an access db, so as to eliminate the multiple files and make it easier to create new orders, rather that saving as a new file name all the time. However, does anyone have an idea of how I could use this same format for order entry? I need to ease our sales staff into this new idea and don't really want to disturb the form they have been using forever. Thanks for any and all suggestions, Chad
When the value "X - DISCONNECTED" is selected in the form I want the record to be removed from its existing table and sent to a new table which keeps all the "X - DISCONNECTED" records together.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. How would this be coded?
Say i have two tables 1 = computers (it holds info about the computers) 2 = Repair (this table holds only the PCs that are under repair)
I want to be able to move one computer record to Repairs table as soon as i select that "this pc is under repair" on a form. So it does not show up on my report of computers in hand and shows up on computers in repair.
and when i get the pc back from repair, i want to be able to select "back in stock" and it'll move the record back to Computers tables & removes tht record from repairs table
is there a way i can do this automatically (without manually move a record)?
Any suggestions - web links or examples will be much appreciated.
Then I have records in each table with fields ,Name and Status(Done and Done_s)
I want records having "Done_s" to be moved to b whenever the change has occurred. Is this possible?(I have tried somethings with Macros but didn't work)...
hi everyone, as a network engineer, it administrator, etc etc people expect to know absolutely everything about pc's. so here i am.....
a company whose network i look after are using excel spreadsheets on a weekly basis to take orders, wages, running costs etc from their remote sites (currently about 20 sites) the spreadsheets are accessed via terminal services and are moved via a script at the end of the week so the remote site doesn't have access to the old records and replaced by a new sheet. so lots of spreadsheets floating about. you can imagine how hard it is to pull past records & compare etc.
now, i'm new to databases and have order a book to gen up on the subject. the sites should only be able to edit the last 7 days of records but be able to see the last years. i can see how a query and subforms can achieve this etc.
each site shouldn't be able to see the other site's records and the head office should be able to run reports etc on each site or as a whole.
i can narrow the time down that everybody is accessing the data. the sites may grow to 50+ but the head office is unlikely to have more than 5 people access the dabase at the same time.
my question is..... (access 2007.... can't see any user security)..... am i better to do an individual database (all exactly the same apart from name, titles etc) for each site that sits in their individual folders via terminal services? then let the head office access each seperate database via linked tables? my thinking for the above way was security (they can't see each other) and resilience (1 database gets corrupted, the others are still workable) and speed (only a few users accessing each database) the downsides are obviously the amount of files although this is nothing compared to the excel files at the moment. any ideas or help would be appreciated. thanks louis
In the right hand portion of my dialog I use a subform to display key words for the code. Is there a way to turn off the column and row headers for the form? Also is there a way to have a transparent background for the subform?
In order to add key words I need to open up another form, enter the words there, close that form and then select them from this dialog. It would be nice to be able to add keywords from this form. FYI, there is a many to many relationship between the key words and the code.
Is there a way to show just my dialog when the database is opened and not the rest of the Access application space? I have unchecked everything in the startup options already.
The last thing is I would love to be able to format the code section so that certain pieces of text are formatted. I am going to start messing around with the some of the free rich text controls but is there an out of the box solution that can handle this task? I was thinking about formatting the code in html and then displaying the html. Is this possible from within Access?
I'm trying to make a form with a single text box that will search for the contents of the text box in a table. Once it finds a match, it moves the record into another table. Anyone know how to do this?
For whatever reason, this code will move to the last record that was entered in YESTERDAY, but I want it to move to the last record that was entered in TODAY. If I change the code to only records that are dated today, it claims there are no records (EOF), when there clearly are. why the code will not move to the last record of the table, it is only moving to the last record that was entered yesterday.
Using access 2003, i would like to add a button to a form so that when clicked all the data in that record is moved (cut and paste) to another identical table, like archive.
I've got this form called mainmenu and inside this form I've got this code to prevent it from being closed.
Code: Private Sub Form_Unload(Cancel As Integer) Cancel = True End Sub
Now then, when I try to switch to design view in this form it doesn't let me because of this code. Is there anyway to tweak this code so that I can get into design view without having to keep disabling it?
I'm trying to protect the frontend of my database from unwanted changes. How to disable the navigation pane, ribbon, and only display my navigation form. My navigation form has 10 buttons that open forms for data entry. I only want the users to be able to open forms and add data. I don't want them to be able to go to the navigation pane or anything other than the forms.
In the Lesson tutorial shown above I am clicking on tools and adding existing fields. I get a lot of output label and text box pairs for each field that I add.
However, they are all on right below the other. That is no problem just move them. No way.
Whenever, I move it a label and test box for say Order Status, I get ... nothing. It stays where it is.
They (label and text box) do not move together. So how do I get them to move together.
After I enter data into one field in a record I would like the form to save the record when I move to another field in the same record. It seems that the record is only saved when I exit it entirely. Is there a way to save a record when moving between fields in that record? Can this be done without using an Event Procedure for each field?
The school director is going to input a date (by default today) and a subform will display all of the students who started before that date and haven't been closed as of that date. Next to each name, there will be 4 radio buttons (present, absent, holiday, hospitalized), which by default will be set to present. The director will go down the line, only needing to click when a student isn't present. At the end, she'll push a save button and the new records will be added.
My proposed method:
1. When the textbox with date input is changed, the subform (or just form and I put the textbox in the header?) will populate itself with a query based on student names whose corresponding startdate and enddate work with the inputted date.
2. The subform will be in continuous view so that it kinda looks like a data sheet but it has radio buttons rather than just spreadsheet cells.
3. When the save button is pushed, some visual basic code in the background will look at record 1, grab the student name and selected radio button value, and add a new record to the AttendanceRecords table with the name, attendance type, and date. Then the code will move to the 2nd record, rinse and repeat until it goes through all of them.
Questions/problems:
1. At its core, is this the Access way of doing something like this? Is there a simpler, more efficient, or generally smarter way of doing attendance?
2. How is step 3 going to work? I can look up how to add new records to a table, but I'm not sure how to move around from record to record collecting corresponding data.
3. Since the AttendanceRecord table uses studentID and typeID rather than actual names and actual attendance types, what's the easiest way of adding the new records with that data efficiently? I'm thinking of making the RecordSource of the subform some sort of linked up set of tables such that if I'm looking at record 1 and the name in the textbox on the subform is "Bob" I can just reference studentID in the background without needing anything on the form at all with studentID?
I've got a form/subform showing employee/position details. I've disabled the regular record navigation buttons and put in ones of my own. If I'm advancing through all the position records for a particular employee using the next record button, when it gets to the last record, the next button advances to a new blank record. Because I'm prepopulating new record fields with previous record values, the users sometimes don't realize they've just created a new record. Is there a way to advance through records without advancing past the last record into a new blank record? I still need the ability to add new records on this form using the add record button I've created.
I'm trying to get a DB to move records simultaneously using a command button. The records are setup with check boxes for example: one column has a check box for 1 Year Ratio the next column has a check box for 2 Year Ratio and the third column has a check box for 3 Year Ratio.
How can i move the information out from 3 Year Ratio into another table and then move 2 Year Ratio check into 3 Year Ratio check box and 1 Year Ratio check into 2 Year Ratio check box by using a command button.
I have a recored set and i dont want a duplicate of the record set in the same table.
Say if my table name is businessskills and contains three fields(columns) and their names(Email , B_code, Rating) highlighted in red with data are as below
I am trying to create a one(employee) to many ( assignment) database. In the form under Employee when I click next exmployee it goes to the next employee but shows the same assignment for the previous employee, how to do I get so they move together?
