Hi,
I have built an Access DB containing 3 tables: dimensions, time, companies. The tables are not linked and are to be used to look up values for the new form. The goal is to create an Access form that would allow the user to select distinct values from all 3 tables, enter some own data and then execute an append query to add the record to the main table.
Something like this:
Initially I have 3 tables:
Prepopulated Dimensions table with fields:
dimension
....
Prepopulated Time table with fields:
Date
Day
Month
Year
Prepopulated Companies table with fields:
Company
....
My form is to be able to select distinct values (combobox) from all three fields:
Company
Dimension
Day
Month
Year
Value (data entered by user)
The record then is appended to the Main table containing:
Company
Dimension
Day
Month
Year
Value (data entered by user)
Thanks a lot for your time and help!

I am trying to import from Excel and append to an existing table. My excel sheet is named tblStatus and I am trying to append it to my Access table "tblStatus".
I get an error message that says "The first row contains some data that can't be used for valid Access Field Names. In these cases, the wizard will automatically assign valid field names." (I used the excel sheet to set up my table.) After I click OK, I get to the point where I can click finish, and I get a "Subscript out of range" error.
MY row headers are:
strOrderOps
strOrderNo
strOperation
strOrderType
dtmBasicStartDate
dtmActualFinishDate
dtmCalFinishDate
strStatus
I am not sure what is going on.

I can append the table and Sharepoint stays connected.
Can I do an append that deletes the previous contents of the table?

I receive the data from engineering team lets name it as MAster database( in DB2 database - Read only ) and then i want to assign the data to each member and staus will be updated by them.So my Idea is upload the data from Engineering team (MAster database) to my (Local database), i think of using Append query if there is any changes in engineeiring data after i append the data then i can use the Update query to modify the data.
But once i assign the job to every member from my Localdatabase, i want it to stored in a data base with their name because it is a huge volume data and it will go for years. The bottleneck is If i use the Append query here, the changes from Masterdatabase to Locadatabase will not reflect in Team members database? is any solution for this or i have to use the Update query in Localdatabase and also in Team memers database?

Hi Guys and Girls.
I have about 100 or so tables that I need to append back into one table
However all of these 100 tables all begin with the number 100 at the beggining. I know that you can append tables - but as far as I know you can only do one at a time. Is there any easy way to do this - for example writing a small SQL statement - saying select all tables that begin with 100* and then append into a master table
Alternatively are there any programs on the net that can do this (I just wrote a massive macro to import them from a text file in to access- not realising this problem would happen!) :(
Unfortunately each of the tables has the first row as the column heading too?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Cuurently using Access 97 though.

hi
is it possible, for any reason, to append another sql query after one sql query?
for example, the first one is "select name from bla bla where name=something" and we just add another query at the end of the query to make something like
"select name from bla bla where name=something and
then show table from this database"
btw i'm using asp to call all these queries..
any help is greatly appreciated..thanks :)

I have an append query created to add files to a table from an imported excel file. The table to which I am appending (SubTBL) has a field names Observation. This field is not required. There is a relationship to another table (ObservationTBL) which has 3 records. The information I am trying to append includes 7000 records, about 4000 have observations assigned and they match the information in the ObservationTBL. The remaining 3000 have blank records for observation. When I run the append query, only those with observations are appended. The rest are not added because of "key violations". I removed the relationship between the ObservationTBL and the SubTBL and the append query runs. Then when I try to re-do the relationship it fails "Violates referential integrity rules".To be clear:
1. The records without an observation are blank. (There are other fields in this append that have blank fields also and they are not causing any problems)
2. The field observation is NOT set to required.
Is it not allowing Null records?

I am giving two tables and I need to create a macro that automatically updates these tables depending on the value of a Yes/No field. If it's No, it's in the 1st table TableOne, if it's Yes it automatically updates to TableTwo.
So, the best way I saw to go about is to set up an append query and then create a macro that runs it
So my tables have the values FirstName, LastName and isValid (more but keeping it short)
So for my append query, I put TableTwo in the pop up I get. Then, where it asks for the field I put it
Field:FirstName
Table:TableOne
AppendTo:[TableTwo].[FirstName]
Criteria:[TableOne].[isValid] = 1
I do this for all (it was autocompleted except the Criteria field). I tried to keep Criteria with data only for isValid but that didn't work. I wrote it for all the field names, still didn't work. Whenever I click run it says it'll append 0 rows.

I have created an append query. Inside that query I have one column that take a result from another query and I have about 10 columns that follow that one column by infomation from a table. I do have the query and table "join properties" at "Student-ID".
I am appending to a blank table but its not putting any other information into the table. The only time it appends if there is information in there. Is there a way to append to table with no records?

how I could run an append query from table A to table B that only appends data that is not in table B.I want the primary keys of A to be exactly the same as B, because I will use B as a blank slate (another append query to append info to another table C with all the fields as 0 except for the primary key).
For example,
Table A - Supplier
Table B - Things that supplier does (blank)
Table C - Things that supplier does (information)
Lets say table A has 1,2,3,4 for supplier.Table B has 1, 2, 3, 4, as primary keys as well but all the other fields are zero.I insert PK "5" + data into table A through a data entry form, and then when I click on "save" in the data entry form, I want to macro an append/update qry (I don't know which one is supposed to be used in this instance) that will insert PK-5 into table B, so that I can append the blank slate info into table C.

I've just been upgraded to Office 2003 (from 2000) and I'm trying to create an append query. I have three tables but only two are displayed on the table list drop down. I can type in the missing table and the query works but I don't understand why all the available tables are not being shown. Does this happen for anyone else and what can I do?
TIA

I have made several extractions from back ups from our ERP system using maketable querys. Each time when I renamed the table after running the maketable query. I now want to add them to create one big table showing the records which I extracted. I now found that each time when I extracted from my back up tapes there was a little overlap in time which gives me double entries when I use an append query to add them al together.
Is there a way to set parameters which filter our double entries and only adds the unique records to this table?

I have an order system whereby there is a "basket" table and an order detail table.
I want to use an append query to move all the records from the basket table to the order detail table.
However, I also need to mark each record that gets appended to the order detail table with an "Order Id" that has already been saved in an Order table.
I.e. I save the main details of an order into the order table then copy records from the basket table into the order detail table along with an order ID that comes from a form.
The order ID is an autonumber.
Thank you all so much in advance =]

I understand that I can use an append query to add data to a table from a form and then have it run by using a command button. I want to do this because when I link the form directly to the table I do not want the form to create a new record every time it is invoked. (it does this automatically because I have visual basic code move to acNewRec and fill in some of the fields on load and lock them off, this is neccessary) I also do not want it to create the record immediately because the user might then decide to cancel their actions and leave the form - then I have half a record's worth of data in my tables! :D
I could just use VB and recordsets to do it but SQL is more elegant. The problem is, when I use the append query it appends an extra record to the table for every single record that already exists within it. So a table with 1500 records will have 1500 new entries containing duplicate data!
This is all a mess, so what would be a better approach? The user does not need to navigate through the records on this form or make edits, it's strictly for additions. There is a subform linked to a table that is in a one-to-many relationship with the table that the parent form must update to, but I'm quite happy to leave that one linked directly.
Any suggestions appreciated ;) I've probably done something thick..

I am trying to create a table from a form. The form has several fields but I need to take the value from 4 separate combo boxes ([cr] +[br] +[tr] and add them, then add the value from one more combo box [inc] to be my beginning value in a table.
I then need to add the last value [inc] to the total and that become the next line in the table. I would the like to add this value [inc] an infinite number of times until it reaches a max number.
The scenario would be something like this
cr=3 br=2 tr=3 inc=1.5
So the first total would be 9.5. Then every row after that would be plus 1.5
11
12.5
14
15.5
17
and so on.
This would be a temp table that I would run a query on to let an operator know lengths they can choose from in a combo box. I don't know if this is even possible.
