I'm building a lab environment into one of my projects. I'm testing the distribution of values over a largish number of attempts to create a unique value.I have a table called LAB_UniqueIDTest, with two fields:
LAB_ID - the string value being tested, and
LAB_UsageCount - the number of times the value has been created.
I'm trying to open the table using the following code:
Code:
' Initialize access to the LAB_UniqueIDTest table
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open "LAB_UniqueIDTest", _
CurrentProject.Connection, _
adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic
I have similar snippets of code all over the application - either with a literal (as here) or as a string parameter.I do not, ever, use the options parameter of rs.open.I get error message "Run time error -2147217900 (80040e14) Invalid SQL statement - expected DELETE, INSERT, PROCEDURE, SELECT or UPDATE
My guess is it's because somehow the Open procedure is trying to interpret the tablename as a SQL statement. But how come it isn't this obtuse at other times?

I have a form that shows records from ADODB recordset.When I try to apply filter to the underlying recordset it works all right but the form doesn't reflect the changes. It shows same rows as before filtering. In debug I can see that the recordset contains only filtered records. Me.Refresh (Recalc, Requery) doesn't work.
Code is as follows:
Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open sql, conn, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic
Set Me.Recordset = rs
Sub combo_AfterUpdate()
Me.Recordset.Filter = "CompanyNo = 123"
End Sub
The form is in Continuous forms mode. I cant use DAO because the data comes from SQL server user-defined function.

I opened a 2007 Access db in Access 2010. This DB worked perfectly in Access 2007, but when I opened it in 2010 my recordset.recordcount no longer works.
This is what I have:
rsGetInst was previously defined
Dim intInstCount as integer
Dim rsGetInst As New ADODB.Recordset
rsGetInst.CursorLocation = adUseClient
rsGetInst.CursorType = adOpenDynamic
rsGetInst.LockType = adLockOptimistic
rsGetInst.open "Select * from tblInstruction where CustID = " & intCustomerID
intInstCount = rsGetInst.recordcount
At this point a get a "type Mismatch" error, and it is happening in all my recordsets recordcount.
Is there a command or reference that needs to be change when using Access 2010. When I compared the references the only difference is that in 2007 we reference Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library and in 2010 is Microsoft Access 14.0 Object Library.

Now what I'm trying to do is loop through the subform if send field is true then attach file from the address path but if send field is false then do not attach file
Code:
Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
Dim olMail As Outlook.MailItem
Dim olAttach As Outlook.Attachment
Dim rstAttach As DAO.Recordset
Set olApp = New Outlook.Application
Set olMail = olApp.CreateItem(olMailItem)

I have a form that allows you to search for records and displays all the information for that project, typical stuff.
On this form is a subform with the followings Fields:
Inspection Requested, Inspection Due, Inspection Done, Overdue
When you update inspection requested the inspection due is automatically updated to 30 work days from that day.
Now what I'm trying to do is get the overdue field (it's a yes/no field) to automatically check itself when the current date is passed the inspection due and the inspection done field is blank.
Here's what I have that isn't working:
Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
If DateAddW([REQUEST], 30) < Date And [INSPECT DONE] = 0 Then
[OVERDUE] = True
End If
End Sub
DateAddW is a UDF that works just fine. I've tried replacing 0 with Null and neither works.

i'm getting this message when i try and change a record in a table via a recordset... but i am using CursorType = adLockOptimistic which i thought let you make changes to the table
here is my code so far
Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset
rst.CursorLocation = adUseServer
rst.CursorType = adLockOptimistic
rst.Open "TBL_TmpSubmission", CurrentProject.Connection
If rst.RecordCount > 0 Then
Do While Not rst.EOF
MsgBox rst!PropertyType, vbOKOnly, "debug"
If DCount("[PropertyType]", "[TBL_PropertyType]", "PropertyType = '" & rst!PropertyType & "'") <> 1 Then
rst!PropertyType = DLookup("[PropertyType]", "[TBL_PropertyType]", "IDPropertyType = " & rst!PropertyType)
MsgBox "property changed", vbOKOnly, "debug"
Else
MsgBox "good property", vbOKOnly, "debug"
End If
rst.MoveNext
Loop
End If
rst.Close
am i using the wrong combination or cursor and lock type here? reading the help it seems i should be able to make changes to the table.

I have a DAO.recordset called "rsSQLIn". This comes from a csv file by:
Code:
strSql = "SELECT * " _
& "FROM [Text;Database=" _
& strFolder _
[Code]....
While the validation runs a boolean keeps track of validated input and errored input.
After validation the validated input is dumped in the table.
Now what I want is de saving the errored record from "rsSQLIn" to be copied to a new .csv file.
The problem I have is that I cant seem to get the current record from the recordset "rsSQLIn". How do I reference this? I need the complete set of 24 fields being the same within "rsSQLIn"

My form respectively subform has a couple of problems related to the recordset as it is available in VBA.
The mainform contains material data, the subform contains the components of that material and a quantity, while the components are materials themselves. The subform's control source is an SQL statement created by the query builder.
Everything worked fine before i replaced the material-selecting combobox in the continuous subform by a textbox and a button. That button leads to another (dialog) form with some filtering options, which in turn returns the number of the selected material. This material gets inserted into the textbox. To this point it works fine.
But when i enter a quantity before i selected a Material, i get an error message after selecting the Material: This Action was Cancelled by an Associated Object. This happens while executing the following VBA Code on click of the material selection button (exact position commented in code):
Code:
Private Sub cbuSelectComponent_Click()
' Select component
Dim SQL As String
Dim rs As Recordset
DoCmd.OpenForm "Material Selector Dialog", , , , , acDialog, "Dialog"
If GLB_selected_mat = -1 Then 'cancel
[Code] ....
I've found the following Microsoft KB Article: [URL] ..... In their example code they use:
' Restore text box value to the original record contents
' in this case, that is NULL
datDataCtl.UpdateControls
I assume this is the relevant part, but i have no DataControl (what's that?) and neither found an UpdateControls method in the subform object.
The second error, "no current recordset", occures when i edit an existing component line in the subform that has been added right before (also using the same event and code as mentioned above). If i close the form after adding the component and open it again, it's no problem.

Is there a way to print the current record from a dao.recordset?
This is an exercise to compare data content.
I have a table with 30 fields and thousands of rows (rs1).
I'm comparing it with a copy of the same table (rs2) that has the same number of fields and the same rows and almost the same content.
I can loop through the recordsets and get the cursor to stop on a field whose values don't match, lets say on row #x
and the programmed message will say something like:
"ROW: 699 Field: [RequestStatus] rs1.VALUE: Closed, DOES NOT MATCH rs2.Value: VOID, in the comparison recordset"Then I'd like to print the entire Row, Row #699.
I thought I could use rs1.getrows but I'm not sure how to make that work.

Hi everyone, I'm just a newbie in DB programming and I'm having a trouble:
I have a database located in my IIS server: "c:inetpubwwwrootwebapplication1dbs1.mdb".
I'm also developing a VB6 app in another computer which will access to my IIS server to get data in my database. I'm using ADODB, but I don't know how to establish the connection as well as to get the data from the server (remote machine).
Can anyone in here help me by showing an example in VB6 code?
Thank you very much, any sugestion is welcome

The company I work for remains on the 2.6 version of the various MDAC components. Unfortunately, upgrading is not an option that I can control. So....
When I open a recordset which DOES contain records, I often return a RecordCount of -1. EOF is false, so that is working, and I am able to use that to get around part of my problem. Where I need the count after iterating through the recordset, I am able to use an iCounter variable to get that. I have tried using MoveLast, MoveFirst, etc. before calling for RecordCount, but that does not help.
In many instances having the count BEFORE going through the recordset would be very helpful. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Anyone devise a workaround?
Thanks in advance for any help!
John

I want to the form to pickup data using a filedsn called PostgreSQL from a table called 'public_digipen_tickets' and populate a form called Digi Ticket.
Can anyone offer any assistance.

I try to use collection of a ADODB.recordset eg rsTarget,Essentially I want to assign the fields (columns) in this rsTarget with respective data. I tried to use of
two sets. (fld as adodb.field)
Set fld = rsTarget.Fields.Item(count)
Set fld = rsTarget.Fields.Item(Column(count))
Then I try to use following to assign
RsTarget!fld.name = Data1
It failed stating that there is no fld.name. Using column set, it state that there is no column function. How to do it right?

I have a routine which connects to MySQL database with ADODB connection. This worked in 2003 and 2007 runtime but throws a 430 error on 2010 runtime. It works in full access 2010. Has there been a change of policy to restrict this type of connection in the 2010 runtime? If I use a linked ODBC table instead of ADODB the runtime fails with "Runtime Error". It still works in full access.

Special situation: The SQL Server Linked Server across the country is linked to a Read Only Oracle DB. This data pull works perfectly and populates the Subform.
The problem is that Oracle can take 3 to 6 seconds to retrieve the single record depending on the network traffic through a small pipe.
The code below shows the RecordSource for the SubForm. clicking on a list box supplies the value. Then 3 to 6 seconds later, the subform populates.
The actual Recordset for this Recordsource is needed to conduct Validation on each field. Normally this would be on SQL Server, I might just create a Recordset Oject and run this SQL statement again in 1 milisecond. In this case, it will probably take an additional 3 to 6 seconds. Avoiding another lengthy round-trip to Oracle would be prefered.
Goal: How does one grab, clone, or other wise reference the existing recordset for the SubForm?
Note: Immediate Window - One single field can be returned quickly
There are 48 fields that need validation - is there a way to reference the entire recordset?
Immediate Window during Break Mode:
? me.fsubsrNavSHLBHL("NavSH_QQ")
NESE ' this is the correct value for the current recordsource
Set a breakpoint right after the line:
fsubsrNavSHLBHL.Form.RecordSource = "Select * from vsrNavigatorSHLBHL where Well_ID =" & txtNavWellID.Value
Immediate Window:
? me.fsubsrNavSHLBHL.Form.RecordSource
Select * from vsrNavigatorSHLBHL where Well_ID =91229

Hi guys, I'm a bit confused: I know that opening a bound form will bring down the whole recordset. But if I create a parametered query as the recordsource, will it still bring down the whole recordset first and only afterwards cut down to the records matching the parameters?
Example: I have a clients table with 5000 clients on a backend mdb, and my client lookup form in my frontend mdb. If I open the form looking for just client "Jim Jones" (via the parameter query), will Access bring down all 5000 clients from the backend to my frontend first, and only then seek out "Jim Jones" before discarding the rest of the recordset?
For if this is true then this whole Access business is rather unsuited for networks, even a small one. I hope you guys prove me wrong.

What I really need is for when the form opens, it looks at todays date, then matches current user and then goes to that record for today, if no current user there, then will goto new record..
i know, sounds complicated, and probably is really easy, but my heads not with it today, as about to get drunk as its my 40th, and got people ringing and texting and still trying to get this done....
I've included a copy of this database, named Timecards..
