Access 2003 Package Wizard
Jul 18, 2007
Hi,
I have just started to use the Access 2003 Package Wizard and I am having big problems, my problem is that any Access App deployed at work is installed under C:MIS, but in there wizdom!!! MS have decided not to allow you to have anything but what they think you should have as the default install location.
I have even gone into the source code and found where the default locations are, but the problem is that you have to add the entry to both a table and an XML file, the table is easy, but trying to find where and what I need to add to the xml, so far has turned out to be impossible.
Can anyone help, or is the best solution going to be to use a third party installer.
Thanks,
Gavin,

I have one Project in Ms access 2000.
If I create Setup(Package) it's working fine in Access2000 but for Access 2003 I need to install Ms Access 2000 Runtime.
Kindly tell me how to install Access 2000 Package in Access 2003 without installing Access 2000 Runtime.
Can it support backword compatibility ?
Thanks

Ok, I have Acc2k3 professional with Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System which according to MS includes the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/office/officetools.aspx) that are required to package an MDE/ADE file using Acc2k3.
The question is how do I run it? I cannot find anything to do with packaging or deploying an Access file anywhere, not only in Access but ot the system and on the Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System cd.
I should point out that my PC has VB.NET 2003, Office 2003 (prof) and Office 2000 (prof - Access only) installed on XP SP2 (I believe that all relevant SPs and critical updates have been applied). I have tried upgrading my project from Acc2k to Acc2k3 and all to no avail.
TIA
Marcus.

Hi
I hope someone can help on here with this.
I am having problems using the package wizard. I can run through the first couple of steps on the package wizard, but when it asks for a language to cache, it fails to install the necessary files.
I have found the resolution on the MS KB site about copying the files to the HDD, and the renaming the exe file to SETUP.EXE, but whenever I select this file to cache, I get the following message:-
'C:SourceSETUP.EXE' could not be copied to 'C:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftAccessADE11Cache1033SETUP.EXE'.
Verify that the source file exists, that you have write permissions on the destination folder. etc
I don't think it is permissions, as it does copy the msi and cab file to that particular folder, it's just the SETUP.EXE file that it doesn't copy over.
Has anyone ever experienced this before when using the Package Wizard?
Thanks

I have Access 2003 and the Developer Extensions which allow me to package solutions and distribute them with the toll-free run-time set.
When I run my applications on the development PC with the "/runtime" switch the applications work fine but when they are installed on a PC without Access 2003 they install but refuse to default values into forms when new records are created. Since any "child" records need to contain the key of the relevant "parent" record for the database to have any relational structure at all this makes the applications useless. I've searched Microsoft sites until I'm blue in the face and I've asked my support company but I'm not getting any answers. Anybody got any ideas?

the language cache for the package wizard is currently stored at "C:Documents and Settings<user>Application DataMicrosoftAccessADE11Cache1033".
this is, therefore, in my roaming profile, which is a very bad thing since it's 35MB.
is there any way to put it somewhere else?
many thanks,
e.

All -
I have just about finished up a Split DB that I plan on deploying in a LAN environment. The goal of course is to turn what looks like an Access Application now into a non-access looking application where the Front End can be distributed and run on any computer within the LAN.
I have several questions that I may need some help on.
How does one go about hiding the Access Shell and/or Ribbon/Nav in 2007?
How would I add a form that allows for a user to navigate to and connect to the back-end without having them check all of the appropiate tables and then browse to the back-end file if they have a different drive letter mapped to the location of the back-end files for example?
Any tips on how to sign the DB so the pesky Trust Center question can be bypassed?
Any other tips on how to simply distribute this for a LAN environment and/or make it look NOT like an Access DB with access to view the Forms, Tables, Queries, etc. This is my first Access DB project, let alone a LAN distributable one.
Thanks!

I have been having this issue with two different
versions of Access, firstly XP and now 2003.
The issue is every time I open a blank database, and
click on the "create using wizard" option, access crashes
while trying to set up the wizard. When I view the
dump rep, it all seems to point to msaccess.exe.
AppName: msaccess.exe AppVer: 11.0.5614.0 AppStamp:3f3c8e3c
ModName: msaccess.exe ModVer: 11.0.5614.0 ModStamp:3f3c8e3c
fDebug: 0 Offset: 000ef3ba
I have uninstalled and re-installed Office onto
different drives etc, but still no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Richard.

I am new to access. When I try to create a control with control wizard, it advises that it will embed a macro that will not run nor be editable in Access 2003 or prior...
What do I have to do to get a control placed that CAN be run by those...? I do not know how to write code, and am really just feeling my way thru this...thus far unsuccessfully, I might add. More on that in the Forms forum...
This is just one of a billion questions I am slowly exploring.
Thanks for any assistance.:o

Hi all,
Using Access 97 :( to create a fairly simple database for a couple of users.
When setting up a report using the wizard, I am given an error message of "No Current record" when I try and Finish the wizard.
I have re-installed Access 97 - which I thought would have most definatly fixed the problem - but doesn't seem to have done the trick.
Any thought are welcome?
Thanks, Neil

Good morning all,
i have a feeling this could be a simple yes or no answer,, at the moment i am using the 'Import Data Wizard' to pick-up an excel file that is up-dated on a daily basis, this file always sits in the same directory and always has the same file name, ideally i would like to have an action button that draws the data in without having to use the wizard each time,, does anyone know if this is achieveable? if so, anyhelp would be much appreciated.
as always, many thanks

I have MS Access 2002 version, I create one mdb file and then put it on the sharing drive, I install Access RunTime on my client machines, they can run the mdb file on the sharing drive.
Another way,
I used Office XP Developer Edtion to create package and then install the package on my client machines, they can run the mdb file.
Here is a question,
Why do we need Office XP Developer Edition to create the package? Because we just install Access Runtime on the client machines, then they can run the mdb files.
What is advantage of creating the package?

I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.
the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).
the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.
but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.
The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.
I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

I've been using the following code successfully in Access 2003 & now I need to migrate to Access 2010. The purpose of the code is to use the items that the user selects in the list box to build the criteria of a query. Access 2010 keeps giving me a syntax error when I try to run the query & I don't know why:
My code is:
On Error GoTo Err_Command151_Click
' Declare variables
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim strCriteria As String
Dim strSQL As String
[Code] .....
The syntax error I get in Access 2010 is:
Syntax Error in query expression 'SELECT * FROM
qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK WHERE
qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK.Rep ortableName IN('Adbri
Masonry NSW');'

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.
However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.
My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

I am working on a massave aplication that has been running in Access 2000, but recently several of the file sharing users have installed Access 2003 because of the limited availability of Access 2000. All the users are using the same file off the server.
The problem we are having is that when we reference a subform in the "[Forms]![FormName]![SubformName]![FeildName]" Access 2003 does not recognize it and returns an error. I have found that if I will modify it to "[Forms]![FormName]![SubformName].[Form]![FeildName]" it is recognized in both 2000 and 2003.
To try and change every instance of a subform reference will take forever and I am garuteed to overlook something. We reference subforms all over our program, missing any one of them would be a disaster. Before I went to the tedious task of looking through everything I just wanted to throw the situation out there and see if any of you had any great ideas on how to get it fixed efficiently. I would apreciate any ideas.

I have an Access DB that I created in Access XP. It works perfectly when used in Access XP. When used in an Access 2003 environment some of the functions don't work anymore. I have users who use Office XP and users who use Office 2003. Does anybody know how to make this DB work in Access 2003 without having to do wholesale code changes?
I have already changed the security to "Low" to bypass the security feature built in in Jet 4.0 but it didn't help. I might have to uninstall Windows XP SP2 to make it work because I know that the application works in an Office 2003 environment with Windows XP SP1 only. But I'm trying to avoid having to uninstall XP SP2 because it's a pain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
My workstation environment is as follows:
OS: Windows XP SP2
Office: Office 2003 SP1
Jet: 4.0

Hi,
I've created a database in access 2003 with the default file format being Access 2000. Everything works fine on my computer and many others, all of whom are running different versions of access (2000, 2002 & 2003).
I have not had any problems with this database until recently and in the last few weeks we have had 2 users, both of them being Access 2000 users who have had the same problem.
The problem they are having is that when they click on any of the switchboard items, the buttons depress an then come back up again when the cursor is moved away, but nothing else happens - no action, no error message - nothing!!! Its the same for all of the buttons on the switchboard.
Does anyone know what is causing this? I have another computer with Access 2000 on it and this works fine, as it does on several other computers runiing Access 2000, I just cannot understand why it is not working on these 2 particular machine.......
Many thanks in anticpation.
