 Our office is planning to switch over to MS Office 2007 including Access 2007. I've just been looking into converting our Access 2003 databases to the new version. One thing I noticed about the datasheets appearing as subforms is that each field header/label/caption/column selector thingie has a dropdown menu. The down arrow of the dropdown menu takes up valuable realestate where the field name is being displayed.
Question:
Is there a way to turn off those individual datasheet dropdowns and get rid of the arrows so that the form doesn't have to be redesigned, due to increased column width considerations which the down arrows cause, just to display the full field labels as they always have been in Access 2003?
After searching through the "search" field, I realize lots of us are having problems with the menu's in access 2007.
After converting my 2003 DB to 2007, my menus are still there, but displayes as Add-ins instead of as the menu bar. I can't find any options to change during the conversion. I have tried importing my Logon window with the options "menus and icons" clicked, but this didn't change anything. If I open the DB in 2003 Format, then go to the options in Access 2007 I can choose the menubar, but if I convert to 2007, the menubar is only available as add-ins. Is there any way round this?
Appreciate any help - it is so time consuming trying to figure this out - and I seem to go round in circles, ticking options on and off... perhaps some dear soul has already found the answer!
I have recently been modifying an existing Access 2007 database, everything seems to be working correctly, except that the main table holding most of the data is acting strangely.
If opened in database view, it is completely blank - no column headers, no data. Record count is correct and I can step through/select records, but there's just nothing visible at all.
The data clearly still exists as it can still be viewed in forms / queries / reports.
Only thing I can think of is that I have deleted a bunch of outdated queries & reports and it's possible that one or more of them may be cross-referenced with the table in another query, but still can't see why that should be causing this problem.
I created a form letter as an Access 2007 report. I want the greeting to read, "Dear [first_name]," e.g., "Dear Alan,". The [first_name] field is bound to said field in a query. When I just use the [first_name] field, I get "Dear Alan" with no comma. I've tried to add the comma various ways:
I have a report (Access 2007) with multiple totals and subtotals. However, one field, whenever I click "show Grand Total," always shows up all akimbo (out of line with the other grand totals), unbound and without the nifty little blue "grand total bar" above it.
I have a query that returns several calculated fields. One of them is simply derived by simple summation of the others. If this calculated field returns a negative number, I need it to show as a zero.
The only way I know how to do this is by an IIF statement :
Code: SELECT [fld1], [fld2], [fl3], ..... IIF(([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])<0,0,([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])) AS fld4 FROM...
(The above doesn't suggest that [fld1], [fld2] etc are calculated fields - I just wrote it like that for succintness - they calculate fine, there's no issue with them...)
Is there a more efficient way of doing this? I find IIF's a bit tardy, possibly because they evaluate for both True & False eventualities, regardless of the condition, and this query is going to run against a fairly large dataset so any performance lag is going to be exacerbated.
On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:
1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce 2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format. 3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ... 4) Choose OK
Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.
Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.
Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help: "ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."
Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.
Hi, I have hidden all the menus and added one of my own custom menus to a DB that I was creating. That DB has been completed. Now when I open a blank DB to commence again, I have the same hidden menues and my one custom menu. Is there away in Access 2003 that I can replace the template, for example, MS Excel and Word have .dot and personal.xls. Is there an easy way to bring them all back. I checked in startup for a restore defaults, however this does not work. Any ideas. Garry
I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features. Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing! Help! I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?
Is it possible to run a SQL command to update a field within a table with random numbers?
More specifically - random long integers linking back to an ID (autonumber) field in another table?
Background to this is, I have multiple static data tables related to each other by long integer identifiers (autonumbers)
The structure is fine but I haven't been provided with the actual data yet - but for development purposes, I need to work on other functionality which requires that this data be present.
So I want to fill my table with dummy data such that I can go off and work on the remaining functionality, but then just go back and clear it all out once I get the actual data.
I have one 'main' static table, which links back to other tables, which I have already populated with dummy static (i.e. company names, locations etc) Now I want to go into my main table and populate those fields in each record with a random ID. I don't mind doing this field-by-field (there's only a handful) but I've a lot of records in there (~1000) so I'd rather not do this record-by-record.
I started access today and all my icons and menus are gone from the interface. I am forced to right click on all my queries and tables to perform any action. All I have at the top of my window is the usual "Microsoft Access" caption. Absolutely nothing else. Other than that, Access is fully functional provided I can use the right click commands. Has anyone encountered this? Help!
I have set up a secured database using access 2003 which I want to roll out to users who will only have access runtime installed on their pc's. The problem is there are some additional options that I want to add to a new menu (export, change password etc) that I need them to be able to view in runtime - when I set up a new menu in access 2003, it doesn't seem to be visible on anybody else's PC when they are logged into the database regardless of whether they have full access or runtime.
I have developed an application and packed it into a runtime version. However, in the runtime version the shortcut menus do not work. The reason why I want the user to have that possibility is that the application has two hyperlink fields and it is much easier for the users to be able to browse to the documents instead of typing each link with all the errors that might give as well. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm trying to set up a database of books in a small library - each book has a prefix (Maths, English, Art etc) which I want users to be able to pick from a drop down list - I can do this, but the next field is a sub-category - is there a way of populating the dropdown list for the sub-category field depending on the chosen entry in the prefix field. eg if maths was chosen I would like the user to have the choice of number area, volume etc. but a different choice if the prefix was English.
any help very gratfully received - it seems to be a simple problem but it has me stumped.
if a relevant user opened the db. All well and good, except they then wanted to be able to see the Access link in the taskbar (which SW_HIDE doesn't do) - so I changed it to SW_MINIMISE and they were happy again until..They then realised (and it was a surprise to me as well) that the right click context menus used to filter and sort continuous or datasheet forms were no longer available to these users - nor was the context menu for datasheet columns to freeze or hide columns - see attached.
I've experimented with a number of options and these context menus are available if ShowWindowAsync is not called or if called with SW_HIDE, but not for SW_MINIMISED, SW_SHOWMINIMISED, SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE, SW_SHOWNOACTIVE.
Why the shortcut menus are not available when the Access window is minimised? The requirement being that the context menus are available to all users the Access link appears on the task bar for all users the access window is hidden for some users.I should say that due to hiding/minimising the access window all forms are popup and modal.
I'm trying to filter my table so that i can make it a query. The data in the Facility is linked to another table with FacName and FacID. When i try to filter the data to create the query from the table, it says type mismatch. It's really bothersome....btw is there another way to create a filtered query?
I currently have a button that opens a report. the report pulls from a query that has parameters set to "fromdate" and "todate". instead of using dates and parameters that pop up as blank text boxes, I would like to click the button, have a form pop up with a combo box to select all of the options available (currently 23 options) and then click a button to make a report that only displays the record (1-23) selected. I do not need any time constraints because as the databases get updated with more records, there would be more than 23 options to choose from.
I Have made a change to a field in my tables. it was was based on ethnic background and originally i had just created the field but had not added in the options ( via adding it into the row sources).
So now the tables field have been updated but unfortunately on the form it has not updated into the dropdown i had created containing the options..
I have a DAP that many users have access to.When opened the Dropdown is blank on some peoples and populated on others. Is there some setting that can cause this. I have checked to make sure that they have the allow ActiveX Controls to run files on this computer checked. Any other setting that may cause this? Thanks.
I created a table in a budget database without a autonumber field. I then inserted a autonumber field after creating the form by inserting a row in the table which works fine in the table, now i want to use a text box on the form with BudgetID from the autonumber field to give me the total amount of records in the database but the autonumber field is not in the record source dropdown.
I have a form where I have two drop down list box.The first list box is called Transaction_Type. It contains three values: Created, Allocated and Sold
The second list box is called Product_Status. It contains 6 items: Allocated, Produced, Reworked, Shipped, To Be Produced, Unallocated.
I have a products form. When a user created more inventory they will selected in the drop down list create, then a quantity. Then I would like the status of the product to update to "Unallocated".
When the user placed an order but doesn't finish it they will choose the status of the inventory to be allocated so I would like the product status to be updated to allocated automatically.
They other status the user will choose them self and do not need to be linked to each other.
In my vba code I have tried with the OnClick and AfterUpdate sub procedures with the following code.
If Me.Transaction_Type.Value = "Created" Then Me.Product_Status.Value = "Unallocated" End If If Me.Transaction_Type.Value = "Allocated" Then Me.Product_Status.Value = "Allocated" End If
Yes when i select "created" from the drop down list it does not change product_status to say "unallocated"
