Access 2007 / Indexes In A Table?

Mar 18, 2014

I am trying to consolidate a few tables I made to make them less numerous and hopefully easier to handle. At one point I received an error message that said I had exceeded the maximum number of indexes in a table (32) and thus it could not be saved. When I scroll through my table in design mode every box that has "Indexed" as an option is marked at "no". Many boxes do not have that option and thus I am not sure if those are automatically indexed(?), not indexed(?) or that indexing is not relevant for those values(?). I definitely do not have any, let alone 32+ boxes, that have "indexed" checked to "yes" though. They are all "no".

How do I figure out which columns in my table are indexed otherwise so that I can reduce those numbers and get more columns on my tables (by the way, I am no where near the limit of 255 columns on any of my tables)

Table Problems Moving From Access 2003 -> Access 2007

Jun 19, 2007

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.

However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.

My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

Access 2007 Crashes On Excel 2007 Import

Mar 21, 2008

On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:

1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK

Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.

Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.

Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."

Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.

I have turned off DEP.

How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?

Thanks

Unable To Modify Infopath That Access 2007 Creates From Table

I am trying to create a form on Infopath 2007 based on a table in access 2007. I want my users to be able to fill in this form and submit it back to me in such a way that it will directly populate the table in the database. I know I can do this. However, I am unable to modify the infopath that access 2007 creates from the table. I want to change the date format. By default it takes up the date as "date and time" and I want it to be the date only.

Access 2007 Runtime Not Visible In Access 2007

Nov 26, 2007

I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?

Modules & VBA :: Selecting Recipients From A Table For Sending Emails? Access 2007

Jul 19, 2013

In an Access 2007 module, is there a way of sending an email to a list of people stored as a list in a table in the database, rather than having to put all the names into the function?

I have a function I'm using to generate and send out an email to certain people, but the list is constantly growing so I'm looking for a better way to manage it! The main issue is having to kick users out of the database every time I need to update the recipients list... because it's stored in the code.

If I create a simple table containing all the names, how could I then ask it to use that instead?

This is the function I'm using currently - found on here and adapted to my own purposes

Syntax to use for the function: SendNotesMail "recipients", "Body Message", "Additional Text", "Subject"

Code:
Public Function SendNotesMail(strSendTo As String, strBody As String, strExtraText As String, strSubject As String)
'This public sub will send a mail and attachment if neccessary to the recipient including the body text and additional comments from the Active record
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "REP09emailnotification", acFormatRTF, "x: endersgroup tendering databaseTenderUpdate.rtf", False
Dim Subject As String
Dim Attachment As String

[Code] ....

So I guess my question is: how do I get my recipients from a table into the strsendto?

Tables :: Access 2007 / Data Not Visible In Table Datasheet View?

Dec 10, 2012

I have recently been modifying an existing Access 2007 database, everything seems to be working correctly, except that the main table holding most of the data is acting strangely.

If opened in database view, it is completely blank - no column headers, no data. Record count is correct and I can step through/select records, but there's just nothing visible at all.

The data clearly still exists as it can still be viewed in forms / queries / reports.

Only thing I can think of is that I have deleted a bunch of outdated queries & reports and it's possible that one or more of them may be cross-referenced with the table in another query, but still can't see why that should be causing this problem.

Queries :: Select All Dates Since A Given Date Without Referencing A Table? (Access 2007)

Apr 23, 2014

Is it possible to create a query to select all dates from a given reference date? I don't mean all dates in a table - I mean all dates generally?

(The idea being to fill the first field in the resultant dataset with the list of dates, then run subqueries off that to fill the remaining calculated fields)

I'm currently using a date field in one of my tables to populate this first field (the full SQL is in a separate thread here)

But that was just a convenient way of getting a list of dates; the dates in that table don't actually have any significance to the resulting dataset (other than they should roughly overlap with the dates I'm looking for)

The flaw in that method is that the table from which I get those dates can only ever have dates up to and including yesterday. I also need to get today's date in there (and calculate the subqueries based on that date as well).

It's also possible - although unlikely - that there could be random dates missing from that table as well - in which case I need to plug those gaps and calculate my fields for those missing dates as well.

For clarity; that first field (AsOfDate) should contain every weekday from the earliest date in that table (i.e. Min([tblBalances].[BalanceDate]) up to and including today. It doesn't matter if any of the dates inbetween are missing from tblBalances as the subqueries will just return zeroes for those dates (which is exactly what I want to see).

Tables :: Auto-Fill Fields Based On Linked Table (Access 2007)

Jan 6, 2015

I understand right off the bat if you're reaction is "don't duplicate data!!" -- mine would be too (don't fret, I know my normalization).

I've linked a table in my db to my Global Address Book in Outlook 2007 and, upon entering an employee number as a new record, would like to verify that the number entered is listed in the GAL and then pull in the associated name and location info.

The key is that I don't want this info to rely on the GAL going forward. For example, if an employee leaves or is no longer listed in the GAL, I don't want to lose the employee info (past data is needed for audit purposes). Note: I will be creating a report later to show if there are discrepancies between the GAL and my table, but that's another story...

So, what would be the best auto-fill options in Access 2007?

Queries :: Access 2007 - Update A Field In A Table With A Random Number / Long Integer

May 27, 2014

Is it possible to run a SQL command to update a field within a table with random numbers?

More specifically - random long integers linking back to an ID (autonumber) field in another table?

Background to this is, I have multiple static data tables related to each other by long integer identifiers (autonumbers)

The structure is fine but I haven't been provided with the actual data yet - but for development purposes, I need to work on other functionality which requires that this data be present.

So I want to fill my table with dummy data such that I can go off and work on the remaining functionality, but then just go back and clear it all out once I get the actual data.

I have one 'main' static table, which links back to other tables, which I have already populated with dummy static (i.e. company names, locations etc) Now I want to go into my main table and populate those fields in each record with a random ID. I don't mind doing this field-by-field (there's only a handful) but I've a lot of records in there (~1000) so I'd rather not do this record-by-record.

Too Many Relationships / Indexes

Apr 21, 2006

Hello
Sorry to add to the number of 'relationship' posts but a thorough search has failed to turn up anything similar to my problem.

I have a table tblSite
Each geographical site (defined by a PK 'SiteNo') in tblSite can contain multiple occurrences of a large number of types of geographical features (ie multiple 1-many relationships).

Eg each Site can contain
100 trees
10 ponds
5 streams
2 springs and so on.

I could have anything up to 50 or so different types of feature that are related on a 1-many basis to the site, linked by 'SiteNo'

Access prevents any more than 32 indexes per table so in practice that means that you can't have more than 32 relationships with referential integrity enforced on any one table. I thought that I was correct in having a separate table for each feature type and creating 1-many relationships to the central table. The fact that I can't have more than a certain number of relationships suggests that my structure is wrong.

I thought about having one large table with a 'feature type' field plus all the other fields required for each feature type but the info recorded about each feature type is different, leading to a large table with many fields, many of which would be blank. This seems to be un-normalized to me.

So, my question is twofold really.
Have I got my structure right? Is it one of those special cases (we all want to be a special case?) and if so, how do I get round it?
If not, where have I gone wrong?
I thought I was comfortable with my design but coming up against this limit has thrown me a bit and I'm not sure how best to proceed.

regards
Neil

Too Many Indexes Error Message

Nov 30, 2005

I am a beginner when it comes to access. The project that I am working on is tracking Travel claims. The claims are submitted ever month for 4 years so I have created 48 tables for each month and tried to link them via the SSN. The member can also submit other claims during this period, ie supplementals (for reimbursements that were missed in the monthly) and Concurrent duty claims (for the member going to additional sites then where they are assign).

I have a

MBR tbl - that holds all the MBR's info (SSN, name, unit, city, state, POC, POC email and Remarks)

(48) Partial tbl - linked by the SSN.

(5) Suppplemental tbl - Linked by the SSN ( I need more of these but I started with 5)

(5) Concurrent tbl - linked by the SSN ( I will need more of these)

These are all one-one relationship.

How can I get this to work. I can upload a blank copy of this database.

Thanks for any help

Tables :: Compact On Close Drops Several Indexes

Oct 5, 2012

I cannot cause a database to refrain from dropping several table indices during a Compact on Close operation. I am running Access 2010 under Windows xp.I have created a database that merges data in a linked text file with data in a linked database, appending the results in a local table. The database has the Compact on Close option set. The table has 27 indices (because most of the fields either are coded or are potential select or sort fields) and nearly 1 million records.

I run a delete query to clear the contents of the table, I close (and compact) the database, I reopen the database, and I run the append query. The indices in the target table are intact. I close (and compact) the database again; when I reopen the database, indices are missing -- sometimes about 10, other times nearly two dozen!

This table is linked to a larger system, which contains code to run the sequence outlined above. Whether run manually or in code, as stand-alone or as a component, indices are dropped. When I close the database with the table containing no records, the indices are not affected. After appending records, but before closing, the database contains 1.66GB. The drive on which the database resides has 42GB free.As suggested with regard to a number of other unexplainable issues, I have created a new database and imported all objects from the original database. The results persist. The larger system performs accurately without the indices, but the performance against a table this massive is horrible.
