Access 2007 - Multiple Subform Onload
Dec 10, 2012
I have a Form with 2 subforms. One subform has an onload property to adjust columnwidths. I am trying to do the same for the other subform - but I get the following error:
The Expression on load you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: A problem occurred while micorosft office access was communicating with the OLE server or Active X Control.

I have a subform inside of a form. The form has info about an entire group of parts and the subform contains a list of all the parts in that group. What I want to do is just filter out the parts in the subform whenever the form/subform loads which do not have a 'deleted' checkbox checked. (No parts in the database get deleted; if someone deletes a part I just want it to add a true to the 'deleted' flag field for the part and then that part doesnt show up in regular part lists anymore).

It seems that if I have a continuous subform open and scroll down through the records, then hit Alt, the subform immediately scrolls back to the top again?
I only noticed this today when I scrolled to a particular record, then wanted to use Alt+Tab to switch to a different window. When I Alt+Tab'd back to my DB, the subform had scrolled back to the top and I had to scroll again to find my record. It was only then that I realised the auto-scroll was happening as soon as I hit the Alt key.
How to disable this behaviour as I use Alt+Tab pretty frequently (as do my users, more importantly) and it will get pretty annoying pretty quickly if the subform keeps reverting to the top?

Is it possible to requery a subform 'in the background' before repainting / refreshing the screen?
I have a subform which has multiple controls, some of which have conditional formatting applied to them.
The problem is, whenever I open the tab that contains the subform, there is a momentary 'flicker' as the CF calculates and highlights the appropriate controls. I have a requery command in the change event of the tab control (rather than recalculate the entire form).
Code:
Private Sub tabAllFunctions_Change()
Select Case Me.tabAllFunctions.Value
Case 0 ' Page 0
Me.sfmSubForm0.Requery
Case 1 ' Page 1
Me.sfmSubForm1.Requery
Case 2 ' Page 2
Me.sfmSubForm2.Requery
End Select
End Sub
It would be neater if the subform waited until all of the necessary requerying / recalculating were done first before showing the final result. Admittedly this would introduce a short delay (we are talking a fraction of a second here) but it would make the output appear more stable rather than seeing controls flick between colours while the recalculation takes place. For me, this would be preferable.
How I can 'pause' the screen update while the Requery takes place to remove the momentary flicker?

I have a continuous subform with a fairly complex snapshot query as its record source. I have controls on the main form to allow criteria parameters for the query and a command button to requery the subform based on the selected criteria. I also have conditional formatting on a number of the continuous controls in the subform (the conditions are fairly straightforward, i.e. highlight if null, true/false etc)
When the subform is (re)queried, it seems to repaint several times (3 or 4 although it appears arbitrary to me) before it eventually settles. And it really louses up the aesthetics as controls flicker between colours; sometimes I even lose the background colour on parts of the detail section, or controls disappear altogether. And this continues as I scroll down the subform (or even click anywhere on it)
I don't mind that the query itself takes some time to run - of the order of a few seconds each time - but I'd prefer for the screen to wait until the query is completed, and all of the CF applied, before refreshing itself, instead of 'sweeping' top to bottom repeatedly. It's a snapshot query so once it's run, there should be no changes to the dataset.
I've tried Application.Echo but it has no effect whatsoever.

I have been asked to create a database very quickly for a small group that needs to scan multiple pages into an Access 2007 form. They they would like all scanned documents to be converted to PDF and stored on a shared network folder which can be accessed by their group. I have tried several ideas posted but, I have been unable to get any to work correctly. Any sample of working database that the scanning portion is working? I am so involved with other projects right now that I just don't have the time to create a scanning process on the database.

I have a list box on a form which uses the following SQL to pull the list items from a table :
SELECT DISTINCT tblMyTable.MyField FROM tblMyTable ORDER BY tblMyTable.MyField;
For some reason, during testing, the first two items on the list are blanks. I am quite happy for one blank to be returned at the top of the list (as this would easily identify for the user any records for which this field has not yet been completed, which is a good thing) but I can't understand why it would appear twice?
Why doesn't the DISTINCT command ensure any blank entries only appear once?
Incidentally, I have a subform which populates on the back of selections from the list boxes, so I can quickly see the corresponding records which generate these blanks. What's puzzling me is that the same records show for both blanks on the list - suggesting it is the same value repeating itself (and not, say, "" vs " ", for example, which was what I originally suspected...)

I have created a series of pie charts in reports based on queries. The data that is being charted are agree, strongly agree, neither agree nor disagree, disagree, and strongly disagree. I want the colors for these to be consistent in all the pie charts but they are coming out different colors on each chart: i.e., agree may be blue on one pie chart but yellow on another pie chart. How can I change the colors either in the pie charts or legends so that they are consistent on all the pie charts?

This behavior is driving me crazy!
I have a data access page with an onload event for the window. All I want to do is go to a new record, update a date field with today's date and save the record. Here is the code:
<SCRIPT language=vbscript event=onload for=window>
<!--
window.MSODSC.CurrentSection.DataPage.NewRecord
request_date.value=DateValue(Now)
MSODSC.DataPages(0).Save()
-->
</SCRIPT>
When I load the page, I can see the date pop into the request_date field, but then it disappears. I made sure the value update code works by putting it on a different object's click event. The problem is when it's in the onload event for the window.
Is there something I'm missing about this event that prevents this from working? Thanks!

On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:
1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK
Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.
Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.
Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."
Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.
I have turned off DEP.
How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?
Thanks
Ken

I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?

What I'd like to do is for my combo boxes to say something like "Select One" when the form is first loaded, until the user opens the box and selects something. My combo boxes work fine now, but they are currently empty when the form loads.
From my google research it appeared that the OnLoad property would probably help me do what I want, but I can't seem to find this property anywhere in Access. It's not anywhere in the property window and the help search doesn't return any results.
I'm using Access 2003 from MS Office Professional Edition 2003.
Am I missing an upgrade or does my version not have this property, or am I just missing it?

Okay, me again, on my DAP (Data Access Page) I have a piece of JavaScript that tells my page onload compare 2 dates. It's straight forward and all and my code works. That's actually where the problem is... When access loads my DAP up it builds the page, executes the javascript and THEN populates my fields with all the records. So my comparison javascript will always execute BEFORE the data loads into my DAP...
<body language=”javascript” onload=”colorBox();”>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=”javascript”>
Function colorBox(){
If (Quarter1DueDateP1 >= Quarter1CompleteddateP1){
Box3.{background-color:Green;}
}
Elseif (Quarter1CompleteddateP1>=Quarter1DueDateP1){
Box3.{background-color:Red;}
}
Else {
Box3.{background-color:Yellow;}
}
}

I have an A2007 application running on XP. From main form, Form1, another form, Form2, is opened.
When I attempt to close the application by clicking in the cross in the rh-corner of Access window, I get a crash midway through the OnLoad of Form2. I cannot figure out why the heck the On Load event fires when the form is being closed, and have some difficulties stepping through the code.
I recall having heard of OnLoad firing when trying to close a Form.

I am dynamically trying to set a control default value. I have the code below in the On Load event of the form. I get an error msg that says "Run-time error '2467': The expression you entered refers to an object that is closed or doesn't exist."
Forms(mainform)("Dyn_" & Trim(str(Project_ID)) & "_SubFrmTab03" & PT_Suffix & "_Approval").Controls("Groupid").DefaultValue = "=Forms!" & mainform & ".ClaimInfoGroupID"

I have a form with an onload event that apparently only runs when it wants to. I've checked the onload property on the form and it is set to event procedure. Went through the code on the event and everything looks good. When i mark it in break mode and step through it it runs fine. When I take the marks off it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.
However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.
My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.

Alright. I've tried searching, but to be honest, I'm not even sure what to search for.
I want to create some VBA that onLoad of the opening form of the database, it will take info from a query that looks for data entered for a student. It will be looking to see if there is data in two date fields. If it finds data in both fields, then I want to make a change to the EnrollmentID row of another table to changed the graduated column from No to Yes.
To expand on that, I'll want to check each ClassID row and if all of the associated students of that class have the column Graduated checked as yes, it will place the date in the date column for that particular class.
This is essentially my way of auto-archiving data as the combo box selections on my forms don't allow for class data to be shown if there is a Closed Date entered for the class and you won't be able to enter more test results for a student if the Graduated Column is checked in the Enrollment table (associates memberID, ClassID, CourseID into a single table)
Any insight on how to do this would be greatly apprecaited.

I currently use code in a module and code on each form in the on_load event to change the icon of the form.. the code i use is as follows..
in a module:
Code:
Private Declare PtrSafe Function GetSystemMetrics Lib "user32" (ByVal nIndex As Long) As Long
Private Const WM_SETICON = &H80
Private Const IMAGE_ICON = 1
Private Const LR_LOADFROMFILE = &H10
Private Const SM_CXSMICON As Long = 49
Private Const SM_CYSMICON As Long = 50
[Code] ....
And on each form on load:
Code:
SetFormIcon Me.hWnd, "k: est directoryhsicon.ico"
What I am wondering is would it be possible to store the .ico file within the DB file itself (i know access can store bitmaps) and reference the .ico in the form load event code?
Overtime the db file will probably move to its own dedicated storage so using a direct reference to the file wont work..
I have tried the following but get an error (it tries to reference the .ico file as to being in the root directory of the db file)
Code:
SetFormIcon Me.hWnd, Left(CurrentDb.Name, Len(CurrentDb.Name) - Len(Dir(CurrentDb.Name))) & "hsicon.ico"

Hi All,
Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).
Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.
I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.
