Hi Everyone
I have been working on an access 2003 database for four weeks now and have been asked to create a field in a table that allows a user to select mutliple entries from a list.
This information in this field of a table needs to be able to be queried and reported on in written and graphical reports.
I have tried and hit a brick wall any help with setting this up would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Mish
Hi Everybody,
I've a question that is teasing me. How would I create a multivalue/multiple answer field in access 2002. P'se forgive if this question has been asked before. Thanks in advance,
Samia
I am new to Access 2007 and I am having trouble in creating a form. It is simply a data storage table which would be fed in by users. That it.
I need to create a user friendly form so that :
When the user selects : Career_Goal field as "None", the next field called: Years, should be automatically be populated as 0.
In any other case, they should be able to select the years from the dropdown list.
How do I create this if else conditions? Do I use expression builder, if yes then how?
I have two tables "Tab_Issue_1" and "Tab_Issue_2". Tab_Issue_1 has two fields "Issue" and "AssignedTo". Tab_Issue_2 has the same fields. However, the "AssignedTo" is a multi-value field in both tables. I want to append data from Tab_Issue_1 into Tab_Issue_2. I use the following SQL but it pops up this message "An INSERT INTO query can not contain a multi-valued field".
[SQL]
INSERT INTO Tab_Issues_1 ( Title, AssignedTo )
SELECT Tab_Issues_2.Title, Tab_Issues_2.AssignedTo
FROM Tab_Issues_2;
[SQL]
I've been doing some reading on multivalue fields and it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. My question: Is there a way to use the multivalue field without making it a lookup? I need the user to be able to put multiple values in a field but can't limit them to a list. The field that needs multiple values happens to be for SKU numbers from a large department store franchise.
One work around I've come up with is to have a pop up that asks for the separate sku numbers so they can be used for the value list each time, but then the user also would have to select those from the value list in order to enter it.... too many end user steps.
I want to avoid making 10-15 different fields each for SKU number, Item, and cost... I also need to avoid having to populate my db with the department store's full list of products...
I have a multivalue field containing values of A,B,C and D with primary IDs of 1,2,3 and 4 in that order.
If I was to run:
Code:
UPDATE Table
Set Table.Multivalue.Value = 1
WHERE Field 1 = "True" AND Field 2 = "True";
Then run
Code:
UPDATE Table
Set Table.Multivalue.Value = 2
WHERE Field 1 = "True" AND Field 2 = "True";
Will I have a Multivalue field as A,B or just B? I would like it to be A,B but I have my doubts as to whether this would work.
I have a form that looks up office names and will automatically populate a field called office number based upon their selection in the combo box. I have a submit button on click event set up to run a query.
Now, here's where I am running into issues: In this query, I need to pull selected columns of information based upon a multivalue lookup field. This multivalue lookup field is joined with the table that the values populate from.
The form will only have one value stored in the txt box field, and I need to be able to search for all records containing that one value.
This is what I have for code:
SELECT FilePlan.FPName, FilePlan.Description, FilePlan.[File Code], FilePlan.GRS, FilePlan.Schedule
FROM Offices INNER JOIN FilePlan ON Offices.[Office Number] = FilePlan.OfficeNumb.Value
WHERE (((FilePlan.OfficeNumb.Value) Like "*" & [Forms]![RetCutOff]![txtOffNumb] & "*"));
Do I need to string multiple queries together to make this work, or is it just not possible?
Can someone please tell me the Maximum no of fields you can have in Access 2007 and if the limit is 255 then how can one get around this problem?
Thank you,.
does access have the ability to create a query where all records are present, all fields are present, yet some data within some fields aren't displayed?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a multivalue text field called "Groups" that is generated through a relationship with another table called "Comments". When I set this up I left the field as a text field when it should have been a number field, and now I can't use the database with sharepoint, because the field needs to be a number field.
My Question is there a way to convert it without loosing all my data, as there are over 5000 records?
My Table with the multivalue field is called "Contacts", the field is called "Groups".
I tried update and append queries but I must be doing something wrong....
A have a query that selects a multivalue field. The query forms the record source for a subform. The text values in the multivalue field are displayed in the query, but when I save this and view the data in the subform datasheet view the values revert to the primary key values. They are 1,2,3,4 instead of the text values
View 3 Replies View Related:eek: Our office is planning to switch over to MS Office 2007 including Access 2007. I've just been looking into converting our Access 2003 databases to the new version. One thing I noticed about the datasheets appearing as subforms is that each field header/label/caption/column selector thingie has a dropdown menu. The down arrow of the dropdown menu takes up valuable realestate where the field name is being displayed.
Question:
Is there a way to turn off those individual datasheet dropdowns and get rid of the arrows so that the form doesn't have to be redesigned, due to increased column width considerations which the down arrows cause, just to display the full field labels as they always have been in Access 2003?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cheers!

I created a form letter as an Access 2007 report. I want the greeting to read, "Dear [first_name]," e.g., "Dear Alan,". The [first_name] field is bound to said field in a query. When I just use the [first_name] field, I get "Dear Alan" with no comma. I've tried to add the comma various ways:
"=Trim[first_name] & ",", "=[first_name] & ,", "=Trim([first_name] & ","), etc., etc.
Any addition to the basic field produces the "#Type!" error. I also created labels from the same query using
"=Trim([first_name] & " " & [last_name])",
and that works fine.
I have a report (Access 2007) with multiple totals and subtotals. However, one field, whenever I click "show Grand Total," always shows up all akimbo (out of line with the other grand totals), unbound and without the nifty little blue "grand total bar" above it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a query that returns several calculated fields. One of them is simply derived by simple summation of the others. If this calculated field returns a negative number, I need it to show as a zero.
The only way I know how to do this is by an IIF statement :
Code:
SELECT [fld1], [fld2], [fl3], .....
IIF(([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])<0,0,([fld1]-[fld2]-fld[3])) AS fld4
FROM...
(The above doesn't suggest that [fld1], [fld2] etc are calculated fields - I just wrote it like that for succintness - they calculate fine, there's no issue with them...)
Is there a more efficient way of doing this? I find IIF's a bit tardy, possibly because they evaluate for both True & False eventualities, regardless of the condition, and this query is going to run against a fairly large dataset so any performance lag is going to be exacerbated.
On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:
1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK
Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.
Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.
Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."
Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.
I have turned off DEP.
How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?
Thanks
Ken
I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?
Is it possible to run a SQL command to update a field within a table with random numbers?
More specifically - random long integers linking back to an ID (autonumber) field in another table?
Background to this is, I have multiple static data tables related to each other by long integer identifiers (autonumbers)
The structure is fine but I haven't been provided with the actual data yet - but for development purposes, I need to work on other functionality which requires that this data be present.
So I want to fill my table with dummy data such that I can go off and work on the remaining functionality, but then just go back and clear it all out once I get the actual data.
I have one 'main' static table, which links back to other tables, which I have already populated with dummy static (i.e. company names, locations etc) Now I want to go into my main table and populate those fields in each record with a random ID. I don't mind doing this field-by-field (there's only a handful) but I've a lot of records in there (~1000) so I'd rather not do this record-by-record.
Hi,
I´m developing my first web page using visual studio. I have connected to an access db, and it works fine. But now I want a text field that can display blank rows, so that the user can identify sections in long texts.
I´m not at all used to having text fields to deal with, so this might be a simple question.
(I just realized that what I want is kind of like this field)
Fuga.
Hello,
I have installed Microsoft Access 2003 and Microsoft Access 2003 Developer Extensions. I can create Access application by using the Package Wizard.
But after I upgrade from Microsoft Access 2003 to Microsoft Access 2007.
I can't use the Package Wizard.
How can I do to solve this?
Thanks.
I support a database for some users who don't find the built in search function (ctl+f) to be useful enough.
The main data entry form of the database has fields for subdivision, lot number and address, any of which they may use to find the record they want. They're requesting that I add two types for searching:
* select sub and/or lot number as search criteria and have the selected record populate the screen
* type in a freeform address and have the record populate the screen
I'm debating about what the best approach would be to do this. Should I have a command button which opens a pop up form with the fields? If so, what is the code I will need to take the data selected/entered on the popup, run a query and then populate the underlying form? I think I need to pass parameters but I'm inexperienced at this so I need some guidance.
Also thinking that if I do create a popup form that I'll use it in the open event on the data entry form as well.
Thanks.
Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.
However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.
My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.
In my table, I setup a multivalue field. In the screen, I can check off more than one selection. It stores the selections in the table as value1, value2, value3, etc...which is fine. However, when I go back to review the entry in a report or a screen, it displays it exactly the same as it is stored in the table - value1, value2, value3, etc...Because of size limiations, the field is only so wide, thus it only shows value1, va...and then the rest cut off.
Regardless of how wide I make the field, all of the values will not be displayed, plus, if there is only one value, it will be a waste of space. What is the best way to display one (if there is only one selected) or all of the values selected ? Is there a way to display then vertically, like value1, (next line) value2, (next line) value3 ?
Hello,
I have a database with a huge table on the back-end, and then I want to set up various front-ends that will only show particular records that a user is interested in.
I notice that, when I query the big table without any join, I get all the records and also a space for entering a new record--that's what I want. But, when I add a join that serves to filter the records to the ones the particular user would be interested in, the space for entering a new record goes away. This is the case whether I view the query itself, or the form that uses the query.
Does anyone know how I can keep the ability to add new records while also making the query a bit more complex?
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
Background Info: I developed our main department's Access 2003 split database which is on a server for 15+ Users. I've now been given Access 2007 for development -- Users still have 2003. There are also 2 other smaller databases that are not split (.mdb).
Problem: In the split database, I've saved the Application .mdb as 2003, relinked and made a new .mde. But the Users still cannot open the database. (I did this in a copy until I figure out the nuances with 2007.) The 2 other unsplit databases can be saved as 2003 version and Users can open OK.
I'm grateful for any suggestions on working with Access 2007. I've been trying to tackle the ribbon which is a whole other question.
