Access 2010 Table Suddenly Read Only - How To Remove That Restriction
Nov 8, 2014
This application has worked fine in the past, but now I find it stops cold saying a particular linked table is read-only. I've looked around and all I can find in the various forums is how to MAKE a table read-only. Reversing that process seems very difficult.
The application is a copy of another that now exhibits the same problem. Each uses a different data mdb - part of the development I'm doing involves changing a different table. I'm developing changes to the application in this separate copy.
I can't tell if other tables would have this problem - the table in question is the very first used (initialization routine) and I can't get past it without deactivating a bunch of code.
Hello, I have an Access database that for some reason just converted to "read-only". I used to be able to open the database and do whatever, now it says it is read only. I have checked the permissions for both the database itself and the folder it is in and they both do not have "read-only" selected. What I really don't understand is if I use my application that uses the database (written in ColdFusion) I get the error - must use an updateable query. BUT if I continue to hit refresh, then it'll work! So it's like it works sometimes, but not all the time - as if it's switching back and forth between read-only and not read-only. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!!
I have a database running for the last 6 or so years (A97) and have the ctl-shift disable enable code in it to stop people tinkering about with it.
The database was aparently working fine yesterday and today it's decided to be read-only so no-one can update the data.
It's on a server - all permissions ok and not read-only.
I can't get the disable/enable code to work either. So basically, it's locked for any development changes and it's locked for any data changes.
The IT boys are going to take a backup from the tapes of the server and re-install it, so it should be ok, but I've never had this happen before and the database is used daily for the last 6 years with no problems.
Any speculative thoughts?
[edit] I have done a search and couldn't find anything that fitted the situation
I am way beyond my skills trying to read these files.
I am trying to read *.pdf files using VBA. I have tried using some code
Code: Dim AcroApp As Acrobat.CAcroApp Dim theForm As Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc Dim jso As Object Dim text1, text2 As String 'error occurs here stating"ActiveX component can't create object"
[Code] ....
I have set a reference to Adobe 10 Type Library and Adobe Access 3 Type library. I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader X. I now read them by converting to text file and using FileObject to read the text file and VBA text commands to get the right fields.
I'm working in Access 2010. I created a database that I want to post in a server on the read-only mode, so that users can not change forms or querys. How can I do this in Access 2010?
I'm a SQL Server DBA and have a few Access 2010 Db's to look after and occasionally have to make amendments to (as is the case today). I've been asked to apply permissions to certain users of the Access database whereby users in a group we're calling 'Viewer' only have read permission and users in another group called 'Writer' (original I know!) have both read and write permission.
The database is form driven (i.e. no-one directly accesses and amends the tables in the database), the file is saved with a .mdb extension.
I've played around with the 'Manage Users & Permissions' in the File Menu however these don't seem to do what I need them to and only result in having to input a user and password to access the database on start-up.
I have a database on a network which has no security setup; everyone who has rights to its directory has full rights to the application. From time to time, it becomes "Read Only" and no one can do anything that requires writing to the local tables (the back end database is "Read Only" for everyone.) Checking the database properties shows the database as not being "Read Only" and changing it to read only and back again does nothing.
So far, the only way I have been able to solve this problem is to replace the "Read Only" database with a backup copy that is not "Read Only".
I have following Fields. Allocation ID(PK), HW ID, User ID, HW Status, Assigned Date.
Values of HW Status = Active, Inactive, Decom, In Stock etc.
What I want is explaind below example
HW XXX is allocated to User ABC and the Status is Active.
Now When I want to reallocate the same HW XXX to Another User XYZ then Make the current status as Active. But before doing that the form should force me to change the Status of previous allocated to user ABC to anything other than active. Because One Device can be active to only one user at a time.
i,e Combination of HW ID & HW Status(Active Only) should not be duplicated.
What would cause Access to suddenly close without warning while busy with a query?
No error messages, nothing! The query is a fairly big one that normally takes about 6 minutes to run, but has had no problem with it for a number of years. A new drive used for back-up purposes was recently fitted to my PC which now has 3 internal hard drives.
Could this problem be caused by a bad memory handling configuration? The original setup that worked before may have been changed when the new drive was installed. The XP Page File size for example may have been changed.
My acccess (.mde) application suddenly slowed down. I have increased the size for some fields in some Tables. Is it could be the reason for this? Is there any way i can get the speed back.
How to update data from one table to another table using form.
I have data coming from design team in Database 1 and using form i want search data and assign the job to a person and store it in the database with his name. I have to do this because database from design team is read only.
I have two tables (Access 2010). One with a list of names (List1) and another with a very similar list of names (List2), but they differ in very small ways. For example, List1 might have John Smith, and List2 would have Smith, John L.; and Smith, John. List2 also has a unique ID associated with these names that I need to append to List1.
I need to design a form that will allow me to look up names in List1, and have it return all names that are similar in List2. I then need to be able to choose with record in List2 matches with the List1 entry (based on a few other columns in List2, such as birth date) and have the form add that unique ID to the List1 record.
Recently Access has started to suddenly close. Usually when I have been developing although I do not appreas to have lost anything as I Save, Save, Save all the time. Last week I had a report that a live access 2000 is doing the same thing. Users are in the middle of entering data and suddenly the database is gone, with no messages. They can re-open the database and continue.
Anyone else experiencing this problem with Access 2000?
It was working firn till yesterday morning. I have not made any changes in this. But now i am encountring the following error
Run time error 3125 The database engine can't find ". Make sure it is a valid parameter or alias name, that it doesn't include invalid characters or punctuation, and that the name isn't too long.
Please help me. Same thing working properly in other application . Same code same database.
Currently have an Access db filled with different departmental information. Trying to build a workflow mechanism that will validate the status of a certain "Event".
70-80 different projects in one table. This table has Due Date for the project in itlAll of the days between milestones are static. There are 18 different Milestones covered by 6 departments.Table built to hold status of project. which includes notes for every milestone and date completed. 37 fields (date and memo field each with id number to relate back to project table
A generated email that emails the parties who are late or their milestone is upcoming. (can do this already, but see the other requirement)When users receive email they need to reply in the email that was sent to them the date and what the result of what they did in the email. Users will be using mobile devices, laptops and desktops to respond.Could use Collect Data feature, but it is not easily manipulated with vb. Also, it will not all information to be edited in a query.
I have a MS Access 2010 application when the User opens form CONTACTS Form
◦User finds single record to be used CONTACTID is identifier to be used for selection ◦User clicks button to open form frm_MAIL_MERGE ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has a drop down combo box that reads the folder location where the application resides and displays all .DOTM files (that is all template files) and one more combo box which contains the CONTACTID. ◦User selects single .dotm file for merge ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has either drop down to select CONTACTID or UNBOUND data field for user to type in CONTACTID number ◦User enters CONTACTID to be used for the mail merge ◦User selects SUBMIT ◦Application merges selected .dotm file with the information in table CONTACTS for the selected CONTACTID ◦Merged document is saved on the user Desktop as xxx.docx
Is it possible to have a value in an excel 2010 cell be used to update an access 2010 db?
For example, if in a spreadsheet "test" cell A2=3 then in a db "test" a column "value" is 3. However, if the value in the spreadsheet changes so does the db.
I wish to work in Access 2010 with a subset of my Outlook 2010 contacts (all desktop- no network barriers), so I am exploring the Desktop Contacts DB found in Microsoft's templates. It passes contact data back and forth using the standard macros, but I wish to add more fields from Outlook. It seems I need to find the code associated with the macro. I believe I can solve the problem using a Linked table, but am wondering if there is another solution?
Calendar synchronization is another issue. Linking gets me to the Archive Calendars, but not the Current one in Outlook which is what I want.
i'm using Access 2010 and i created a main form , from which i want to let users to open new table with fixed fileds and rows, also the name of the table will be as per user choice. so if a user want to open new table from the main menu, he will have the choice to press on a command button and a dialoge box will ask to name the table. the new table will then be open with the same fileds and rows names( name only) . the new table will be edited using a form.
I have 2 Tables. Table "BOL" and Table "Containers". Both contain "Job_Number" and "Bill_of_Lading_Number" as a field. I would like to get a "Bill_of_Lading_Number" record from "BOL" and add it to "Bill_of_Lading_Number" in "Containers" table based on condition when both "Job_Number" are equal. I have tried two methods. One with DLookup and another with SELECT. Both work but with a small problem.
When I execute them, a dialogue box popup asking me to enter the "Bill_of_Lading_Number" value while the required value shows as dialogue box heading. This box shouldn't come up and I am not sure why this is happening. "varsJobCont" variable I get from another form and is "Job_Number" value that determines the record to be selected.
My Both Codes are:
Dim strBill As String strBill = DLookup("Bill_of_Lading_Number", "BOL", "Job_Number = " & Application.TempVars("varsJobCont").Value) DoCmd.RunSQL "Update Containers SET Bill_of_Lading_Number = " & strBill & " WHERE Job_Number = " & Application.TempVars("varsJobCont").Value Dim strBill As String Dim dbs As DAO.Database Dim rst As DAO.Recordset Set dbs = CurrentDb
[code]....
shows the dialogue box and the heading "bbb1055" is actually the correct value I needed to get. It should have been put in the other table automatically without the need to insert it manually again.
I have a form that has 2 combo boxes and a list box. As I select items from each of the lists, the lists get changed. I tried setting some queries to Snapshot, but then I couldn't select from the list.
Alternatively, How can I find out where or why the data is being overwritten?
I am using Access 2010. How do I prevent the object typed into the textbox on a queryform being written to the table. The result from the name typed into the textbox on my query form correctly produces the result from the query, and my macros then produce the correct report, which I can either print or close due to the controls in the heading of the report. However, when I view the table, the name typed (only) has been inserted into the correct field as a new record in the table. Is there a macro I can add (I assume to an event in the query form) to prevent this happening?
In Access 2010 is it possible to have a tblKits with a column on it Reactions 8. Then on a form a field Used. When thee user inputs 2 into the Used field can the Reactions on in the tblKits be updated to 6 automatically?
