Access 2010 / Extract Attachments To A Folder And Link Them Back To DB?
Mar 21, 2013
using Access 2010, I have reached the 2GB limit. It's not the data, it's the PDF files I scanned in for each customer that has stretched the db to its limits. The db is also currently split.
I didn't realize Office had a 2GB limit; I assumed if you had a 64 bit computer and a NTFS partition, there would be no 2GB limit.
Using a template database in Access 2010, I need to extract the attachments to a folder and thus link them back to the database using hyperlinks. I can handle this task, but I'm not confident how to extract the attachments from each record (around 900) to a folder and have it do it automatically for all records. I can do it record by record, but that is not feasible with this many records.
how to extract all the attachments for each record, and have them saved in folders by their name or other ID, so I can link them back to the db via a hyperlink?

I have an Access 2010 database connected to several SharePoint lists. I'd like to be able to print a report (based on a query) and add that report as a .pdf attachment to the record I was looking at when I generated the report.
At the moment I can save the report as a .pdf to a local file store, then upload it as an attachment, but is there any way to skip that step and add it to the correct record automatically?

Hi Di Hi
I am new to Microsoft Access and have a little problem. I have searched the forum and nearly found the fix but I didnt quite understand what to do, so im creating a new thread.
I have a Access Database and have a client page that stores all the information about that client. We produce reports (scanned word/pdf) for each client and we store the report files in a client folder using the Client ID taken from Access.
My question is can I somehow produce a link from the Client Form in Access to the Client Folder or Files in explorer. I have seen the Hyperlink option but that is only availabe in Design View.
Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance,.

How can I link multiple images from a folder on my drive to each record without making the database file huge?
Each record is a plant species. I want to link to photos of flower, seed, etc. See attached database example.
I would then like those images to appear on a report for each species. How would I go about doing this, if it is indeed possible?

I have a question about the best way to go about linking an excel workbook to an ms access table? I have researched hyperlinks and attachments and ole objects and I am not sure what is the best option. I believe hyperlinks will be best, because the attachments will bloat the database, but I am not sure how to go about doing that in vba? My process is such:
1)Users enter project information
2)Users enter the sample information for each project
3)The project and sample information is combined by a query
4)The user clicks a button to print forms, which runs the query and opens an excel workbook template.
5)The data is exported to a specific sheet in the workbook
6)Using vba in excel, the data is used to populate cells in different sheets depending on critera.
After all of this is accomplished, I need the user to SAVE AS the excel workbook and it needs to be "attached" to the ms access 'project' table. I am not sure what is the best way to link this back to the database. I would like to automate it with vba if possible.

Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.
I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number
The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images

Hi there.....
I have a minor problem......if anyone could help me on this one, would be much appreciated.
I have a field "OLE Object".
Great!
BUT!! .......I want to be able to LINK my products to pictures from a file.
IE:
Product 1 = AB1.jpg
Product 2 = AB2.jpg
Both images are in C:/images
So...product ID1 is linked to image AB1.jpg...product ID2 is linked to AB2.jpg.
The images must also appear as images in the FORM.
Any ideas on how I can do this ?
Thanks in advance.
Chris

I have a MS access db with a report that displays a list of students with a pic of their face on the side.
The pics are linked to a folder thats inside the folder where the .accdb file is stored.
The accdb is often moved around, but when it does, all the links become broken and the images are no longer displayed on the list.
How can i adjust the link path so that regardless of where the accdb is moved, the links remain valid?
I am using ms2007 and also its not a networked area but rather a bunch of standalone computers.

I have a question that involves windows permissions as well as access links. I have a contacts database split into a front end and a back end. For security reasons I want to place the back end in a folder that is hidden from the users. In other words the users can access the front end as normal and run queries and reports but they are not able to navigate in Windows to the folder containing the back end or view its contents.
Is it necessary to use VBA to do this? If so what is the script? If not, how is it done.

Is it possible to have a value in an excel 2010 cell be used to update an access 2010 db?
For example, if in a spreadsheet "test" cell A2=3 then in a db "test" a column "value" is 3. However, if the value in the spreadsheet changes so does the db.

I wish to work in Access 2010 with a subset of my Outlook 2010 contacts (all desktop- no network barriers), so I am exploring the Desktop Contacts DB found in Microsoft's templates. It passes contact data back and forth using the standard macros, but I wish to add more fields from Outlook. It seems I need to find the code associated with the macro. I believe I can solve the problem using a Linked table, but am wondering if there is another solution?
Calendar synchronization is another issue. Linking gets me to the Archive Calendars, but not the Current one in Outlook which is what I want.

I need to add attachments (pdfs, Word documents, JPEGs) that will automatically update to my form when revisions are made to them in their outside folders (not within Access). For example, I have op sketches that are being edited outside of Access and saved under the same name, so I need to make sure that these newly edited documents are automatically being linked and uploaded to my Access form to see. These attachments were added to a field in one of my tables, and I can pull it up in the form. My problem is that the attachments that I pull up are not the currect version; they are the original version that I added into the table. I tried making the Default Picture Type as "Linked" instead of "Embedded", but this isn't working. What can I do so that the current revisions are being shown without having to edit each attachment within the table?

I am splitting a database and have created the Back end already. When I create the front end and link to the tables on the back end... The front end does not link to all the tables in the back end. The list that comes up when creating the linkings does not show all the tables in the back end. What would cause this?

I'm trying to automate a process of selecting a set of file/s and move them in a folder. When I click on a button, it should open a current folder that is setup in the code.
Lets say that I have a folder C:documents est, and very time I click on the button, it should open the dialog box with that path so I can select the files from another folder, drag them there and they will be saved in that folder.
This will form part of wider automation that will send an email stating that those file/s where placed in that folder.
I have in the same form where the button is placed, 3 check boxes that needs to be passed to the email as well that one or all the files where placed in the folder.

This way they can update the form as the case progresses.I am trying to improve upon what was created by another.
