Access Database Info
Nov 24, 2006When i"m creating a database and the tutorials tell me to select CHAR under DATA TYPE, that is not one of the selections. Can Someone tell me why??

Viewing Database Info In A Data Access Page
Oct 18, 2004I am very new to access and have a question which I think is very easy to answer. What I have is an access file with a listing of companies, their contacts and what services we provide for them. (each company/client/service is listed in a row with each new set of information on the row below it).
What I am looking to do it to create a data access page that anyone in our office can view. I want the access page to have a text box where they can type in the name of the company, then click a 'search' button. That will then display the results in a box below everything. The results would be the contact and the services (there are other columns in the datasource as well, but I didn't list them).
If anyone can shed some light onto my problem it would be most appreciated!

Database Connection Info And Driver

Im doing a login page for my website, and i am having trouble connecting to the DB:
'Database connection info and driver
strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};uid=;pwd=letmein; DBQ=" & Server.MapPath(strAccessDB)
where strAccessDB = "cs334-45/Kosy/Kosy.mdb"
cs334-45 is my computer name in the virtual directory.
Im getting this error:
Server.MapPath(), ASP 0172 (0x80004005)
The Path parameter for the MapPath method must be a virtual path. A physical path was used.
/Kosy/check_user.asp, line 21
I dont understand. I thought that the virtual directory was mapped to the physical directory
anyway? So why do I have to enter a virtual path?
General :: Why Is One Database Returning Info And Other Not
Jul 23, 2012take a look at the 2 databases and the queries qryOSHAbyJob in the one database and qryOSHAJob in the other database?
One will return the data I want and the other one only returns the last record entered.
I will attach the db's. I am working in A2007.

How to best setup a database (knowledgebase) for use in making various work place hardcopy and electronic intetacive version process checklists that may share some of the same info ?
Eg, checklists for a building dept for how to get permits for different types of buildings that may all require some of the same types of plans and permit application docs, but may also require other plans/docs specific to the particular type of building... but in order to update a requirement in the checklist/s only one database item would need to be changed in order to update all the checklists that include that common item.
Then to carry it one step further... to use the same database to update info publications that may have checklist type information in the narratives about the same building permit requirements.
Hope that makes sense.

Mar 6, 2015Is it possible for me to give them access to part or all of the database so that they can run queries to target venue mailshots etc if so how would i do this?Secondly my concern is that the database is valuable and I want to protect myself from potential theft of info, ie what stops them taking the database and using it for there own purposes?

Update Order Info Based On Quote Info
Nov 7, 2006I need help on this, from what the best concept is, to what I need to look into using:
I store Quote data from phone calls into tblQuotes. There is a seperate table that holds much of the same information except that it is for actual orders called tblOrders.
As far as function goes, I have each working much the way I need it to except for one thing... If a sales person is on the phone with a customer with a quote already in the system, right now they re-enter the data into the Order table. Most times, the order is what was quoted, but maybe with a few small changes (so I will wnt to keep a historical record of the quote). How could I copy the contents of the quote recordset into the recordset for an order, where all the sales rep does from there is edit the quote to the actual order?
Would I use VBA or an update query that is executed via VAB? Honestly, I am unsure how to do this at all, I hope someone has seen this before and has a good suggestion...

How To Save Meeting Info Into Access
Jun 29, 2007My company has a meeting every tuesday where we discuss the status of all our construction jobs. I am trying to set up a database which will allow me to build a report which shows the job number and job status of all our jobs on that particular meeting date. I would like to be able to view the entire job list and pull up the job list by date. The fields I'm trying to store are job # and job status. But I'd like to be able to go back 3 weeks and pull all the job status notes for the entire job list. I can do this by entering a job status field in the job list table but I'll end up having alot of fields in the table which I want to avoid. Is there another way I can enter this info into the database?

I dont know if this is possible but can someone please suggest if this is possible and if so where I could find some info on how to do it or what I should be looking for in this group.
Can I set something up so that I can email from Outlook to all the customers in the query below?
I have an access database which I have creatged a query that pulls results from a table with 100 customers in it.
Lately I have been cutting and pasting information from the database and email every customer individualy.
An example would be as follows.

The text in capitals are results from three colums in the database.

Can I set something up so that I can email from Outlook to all the customers in the query above?

Input Info Into Word Documents Using Access Information
May 10, 2006Hi. I have been asked to find out if it is possible to automatically insert info from a access database into some word documents that require the same info i.e. a title or reference number so that, for example, if the title is changed in the database it will automatically change in the associated word documents.
Is this even possible as I have no idea or can something similar be done?

Best Way To Import SQL Database To Local Access Database?
Dec 25, 2005I'm new to Access and VBA, for the record. What I need to do is copy a SQL database (table structures and records) and save it as a local Access database, so that the user can query and make any changes on the local file without editting the SQL database.
Looking around, it seems like the best option would be to use the TransferDatabase method with the acImport option. Does this sound reasonable, or can someone with more experience suggest a better way to go about it? Thanks.

I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.
I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.
My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?
But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?
Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.
How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.

Locking User Access To Database Objects (MS Access 2000 And 2003)
Apr 15, 2007I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.
the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).
the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.
but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.
The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.
I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

If i run it on access 2000 it runs fine.

A few years ago I’ve made an access database on access 2000. The problem is that now I’ve installed the office 2003, and I can’t make the database work properly.
At first says that are missing those files: “tshoot.ocx”, “msioff9.ocx” and “msowc.dll”; so, I’ve copy them from another computer using office 2000 and now only complains about “msioff9.ocx” saying that my database contains a reference incomplete to it.
Is there no other way to convert my database do work properly with access 2003? What can I do?
