I have a database stored in a folder, and this folder can be accessed through a Network.
Is there a way to protect users from copying this folder to other areas? That is I would like to restrict access from users copying the folder where the database is stored.
I have a form which allows a user to click a button, select a image file and it then references that path instead of embedding it. At the same time I would like to write some code that will copy the image from wherever it is located and copy it into the application pathimages folder.
I'm currently working on a database to track and inventory documents in my organization similar to a library catalog, but with a digital archive as well. I'll need the ability to "attach" documents to records in the main inventory (though using links instead of storing it in the db) and have the documents live in a centrally accessible location on our shared server.
I will need to have this function work through a few different tables and in a few different iterations, but I'm trying to work on the simplest part first, which is attaching a thumbnail/preview of a given document to the record for that document.
I've got some VBA working well which opens the file picker and copies the file to a directory relative to the DB. It also creates a folder with each employee's ID number if it doesn't exist already (which it gets from the Windows log in) and adds "Copied_" to the front of the file.
Now I'm trying to get the VBA code to interact with the record. Presumably I need to tell the form button I'm using to launch the VBA code to pass the primary key of the record being displayed to VBA. Then, at the end of the VBA code I need to take that value and find the record again from VBA so I can update the MediaThumbnailLink in the original record.
Does this order of operations make sense? If so, how should I go about passing these values back and forth and writing the new link value?
Here's the VBA I'm using so far...
Code: Option Compare Database Public Sub GoCopyThumbnail() Dim fDialog As FileDialog Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker) Dim varFile As Variant Dim LUser As String
I have a database built using Microsoft Access 97-SR2. I want to copy it to another computer (my office computer). I was successful in burning the file to a CD-R disc. However, when I run the database from the disc, a message appears saying its READ ONLY-it apparently makes it Read Only automatically. I want to be able to change and edit the data and the controls, ie. forms, reports, etc. on the other computer. How can I transfer the database my other computer, without it becoming Read Only?
If I have an MS Access frontend that connects to an MS Access backend, is there a way to hide/permission block the pathway to the backend's folder but still allow access via the frontend db?
Right now I can't dedicate a server to a more "secure" form of DB or anything like that so I'm stuck with MS Access for now. I just don't want someone looking at, say, a link table path and then navigating to that folder and getting access to backend information.
We have two computers in a work group. On computer1 I have the back-end and front-end database files in the shared folder and 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the error message "Microsoft Access can't Find The Database 'C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsdb.mdb' Make sure you entered the correct path and filename" On computer2 I have the front-end database files in the shared folder and pointing to the same back-end database on computer1. Again 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the same error described above.
I expect that this is some sort of windows permissions issue? There are some clues to this fact .. The two users that can't access the database are limited accounts, but I tried making them administrators and this had no affect. Their shared documents folder does not have a hand underneath it?
Any help on this appreciated as it's really starting to annoy me now!
I have written an Access (2000) Db that uses the SendObject function to send an email. Works quite happily for my Windows 2000 Op System users, but not on XP machines. XP machines error with message something like "access denies, not available in this context". Any ideas?
When a process of some kind is using a file, you canīt access it in anyway, can you?
The reason is we have an application that locks files it is supposed to go to work on (it is a printer, merging two or more pages together before printing). The thing is it is not very stable, and every time it hangs, the pages has to go through the whole process again, even though the files are there.
Iīd like to replace the "page 1" file (which is locked waiting for the page 2 file), with a file that was processed earlier. Nothing is being written to the "page 1" file at this point, but it is locked all the same.
How does the system mark a file "access denied"?
I realize I might be in the wrong forum. Youīll forgive me.
I'm new at all this so i'm sorry if it's a silly question, but i've split my db into a front and back end on a server but need to copy them and put a copy onto a laptop for my boss to take somewhere. How do i copy them so that they dont look for the other one in the server folder but on the hard drvie.
Hello, Excuse my inexperience, this is not my field. I am a network administrator and have never dealt with this problem before. I have been assigned the task of transferring a database (used by a security company to manage a gated community) to another system. I had to do this because the home owners association is changing security companies and they old security company is taking their computers with them. Now, I copied over all the files i could find and now that I am trying to set it up, I get the infamous error 3033, "you do not have the necessary permissions". I noticed that there is also a secured.mdw file. All i need to know is how to set up this database on a standalone system so that the new security company can access what they need. Thanks in advance for your help -Nima Shariatmadari Euclid Management
I have experienced a problem copying a database from a CDR to the C Drive of a networked machine at work. What happens is that the Database attributes are changed to "Read Only" after being copied. I can change this easily enough but i dont want other users to have the same hassle.
This problem does not occur when i copy the same CDR to my desktop or laptop at home.
Hi, Does anyone have any ideas on how I might prevent a database from being copied. I have an application that I have set up with a number a tools to prevent exporting to an empty Access container, and from accessing the database design via the ShiftBypass feature, but the database can still be copied in its entirety. In some situations I would like to be able to add a feature to prevent this. Any suggestions? FrankC
Can you copy the switch board (and all of its properties) from one database to another? how do you do this? i tried copying and pasting the switchboard from "Forms" But none of the properties in the switchboard manager transfered with it. How do you do this?
I have a database that the table is located on a sharepoint website. This worked out well in the beginning but now that the database has thousands of records, it has slowed up a bit. What I want to do is at the load of the the database, it will automatically copy Sharepoint table to a local table located on the computer to speed up querys and such.
How do I copy a form from one database that have reports and quaries linked to it to another so that I can change the information in the new database and keep the form style in the old database?
Is there a simple way of copying the same data down a column in Access similar to Excel with its Fill Down Column. I have tryed copying down a column and it only goes one cell at a time or if I copy 5 cells with the same data, I can copy it to 5 empty cells.
When attempting to open an Access DB that has been transferred from one network to another (via CD and aeroplane!) we are finding that the copy cannot be edited - the access is effectively read only... I believe this has something to do with Workgroup admin rights but this area is all a bit confusing for me. What do I need to do to open the copy up for editing - allowing the recipients to administrate their copy of the DB?
I have recently been experimenting with adding an Access database to a shared folder (in a network HomeGroup) and have it working on two networked PCs. Then tried the same with the database split but I get a path error on the PC joined to the HomeGroup (where the database resides) whenever the backend (tables) are accessed by a form or from the Tables listing. If I however open the backend file directly from the file directory, the tables all open as expected.
The path stated as being invalid in the error message starts with "C:Usersetc..... instead of LAF-PCUsersetc..... so it looks (to me at least) that it is attempting to load the file from the local hard drive rather than the host computer.
Why a split database works differently in this situation than a non-split.
I'm trying to automate a process of selecting a set of file/s and move them in a folder. When I click on a button, it should open a current folder that is setup in the code.
Lets say that I have a folder C:documents est, and very time I click on the button, it should open the dialog box with that path so I can select the files from another folder, drag them there and they will be saved in that folder.
This will form part of wider automation that will send an email stating that those file/s where placed in that folder.
I have in the same form where the button is placed, 3 check boxes that needs to be passed to the email as well that one or all the files where placed in the folder.
I'm trying to open a folder based on a BIN nr. This folder could be in a main folder that has diferent subfolder. As there where differnt naming used to create the folderes, one of the things they have always is the BIN nr. It alwasy start with a unique number and maybe I could use it to scan the subfolders and open that one that the BIN nr is equal as in the field BIN.
Now we have serveral 1000th of folders and finding them takes time.
I have a MS Access table containing Dependent social security numbers but some of the dependents social security numbers are blank.
I have a MS Sql Database that contains a table with most of the missing MS Access table dependents Social Security numbers.
How can I take the Dependents social security number from MS Sql Database and copy/update the MS Access table.
I tried the sql code below created from MS Access and it matches 453 records out of 460 dependent social security numbers but how do I update qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN with the social security number from dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn
Code:
SELECT dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn, qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN FROM qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN LEFT JOIN dbo_depfile1 ON qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.MemberSSN = dbo_depfile1.dep_ss_nbr WHERE (((dbo_depfile1.dep_first)=[FirstName]) AND ((dbo_depfile1.dep_last)=[LastName]));
Updating MS Access table dependent blank SSNs with SSN in MS Sql Database.
Many years ago I created a database that has one embedded image for each project.
I am now redoing this db in 2010 format and I want to extract these images and save them in a folder so I can link them to the new db based on the project ID number
The table is [Project main], the unique project ID is [R&D ID#] and the image file is stored in [Item image] as an OLE object. i would like to save them to C:db images
We have several users that access the same database. Is there a way to make it so that the users can add comments to the "coments" field on the form, but not remove any comments once saved?
