Access Not Recognizing Numbers After Run Update Query To Revise Values In One Column
Oct 25, 2014
Access doesn't seem to recognize the values in a table I am updating. I am using an update query to revise prices in a column Titled "Price". I am comparing the prices in the Price column to the prices in another column with a simple IIF statement (i.e., IIF([Price]=[Column2Price],"Yes","No"). However, oddly, the formula produces a "No" result, even when the prices are plainly the same values, and all formatting for both columns is the same. Whenever I manually type over the price with the same value, the formula works and Access seems to work as intended. For example, I simply type "12.95" over the same value that is displaying in the column that I updated that is already showing "12.95". Then, after I do that, the formula works and produces a "Yes" value.

I am trying to run a simple update query to copy data from one column (Addrl1)to another column (Working_Addrl1) within the same file and I can't for the life of me figure it out. Then I need to repeat for addrl2 and addrl3 to working_addrl2 and working_addrl3.

When I attempt to use the me.field = me.combobox.column() method to retrieve info from another query,it only works if I use column 0 or 1... it doesn't work with higher columns number.
- field name: cbofi
- row source: listado-unico-fi <-- it is a query with unique values and 7 fields in total
- event procedure, change:
Private Sub cbofi_Change()
Me.txtDOCTPT = Me.cboFI.Column(1)
Me.campovia = Me.cboFI.Column(5)
End Sub
- txtDOCTPT is the field that indeed works
- campovia is the one that does not work
I tried using column(0) and column(1) and it worked fine... but higher column numbers do not work. Just mentioning because the field names are all right.

I have a query that serves as the data source for a report. Previously, I had a unit cost value that the User entered as a parameter, but I wound up adding an unbound text box on my form so that I could validate the input before executing the query. So now, the parameter is coming from a form. The text below is from my query, but Access still pops up with a parameter box as though Expr3 is undefined.
Expr3: [Forms]![BridgeRptsF]![CostSF]
I have verified that the field name on the form is correct, and whenever I try to run the report, I do it from the [BridgeRptsF] form and I make sure the CostSF field is populated. I feel like this is a pretty straightforward fix but I've not stumbled upon it yet.

Hello Everyone,
Im trying to make a query which will allow me to run a query update so that all my listings will get a new random number generated for them,
Ive got it selecting any listing with a ID of >0 (so basically thats all of the listings)
What id like it to do is then assign a random number to the randsort field, (prefer a number like 0.812 or 0.342 etc etc)
To start with ive tried using the Rnd feature, but its updating all the listings with exactly the same number (though granted the number changes each time the query is run)
I see in some of the other comments regarding rnd that you may need to put a randomize statement somewhere,
Im very new to programming in access and was just wondering am I on the right track, and if so where abouts should i declare the randomize code since its in a query?
Thanks for your time and look forward to your replies
Cheers Ezy

Hello,
I am running a append query from a button.
In the query, I have set the OrderID criteria to:
[Forms]![sfrmOrders]![txtOrderID]
Whenever I try to run the query from the open form & subform, an Access 'Enter Parameter Value' window pops up.
I would like to use this Criteria for many different features in my db (SendObject, etc.), but I cannot find how to set the OrderID based on the current form.
If anyone can see what I am doing wrong, I would appreciate your help!
Thanks!

Hi I have an access database called contact.mdb and I have linked to it just fine and used the records held in it to populate a datagrid and can update and delete records.
I don't understand databases that much but I would like to read the values into a drop down menu which are held in the field 'ID' from a table called 'courses'. I have a feeling it is something to do with data sets but am not too hot on these either. Any pointers or code would be gratefully received.
Thanx loads Lervy :d

Excel file data needs to be transferred in Access table but the number of Presents, Annual Leaves etc needs to be calculated in Access during transfer not in Excel.
Now due to limited knowledge I do not understand how to resolve this issue and how to start. How to calculate the number of Present and Leaves.

Hi all,
In the organisation that I work for employees get paid every 2 weeks on a Saturday. So for this financial year the pay period end dates have been 08/07/2006, 22/07/2006, 05/08/2006 etc
I have a column in an Access table listing various dates. I want the next column to be
populated with the next pay period end date after that date.
So if DATE is 05/07/2006 I want PAY PERIOD END to be 08/07/2006
and if DATE is 09/07/2006 I want PAY PERIOD END to be 22/07/2006 etc
How do I do this?
Kind Regards,
Matthew

How can I pass two (2) values to a saved query ? These values are in a form that has a listbox with two (2) columns. The name of the form is 'Previous Evaluation Form'. I'm able to retrieve the values from both columns of the listbox in the form and I've already created the query. Both are working fine, but can figure out how to pass the query's criteria to select records for 'Name' and 'Date' columns of the query. Below is what I had in the 'Criteria:' of the query. What wrong with the code that is placed in the query's 'Criteria:' ?
Forms![Previous Evaluation Form]![Individuals].Column(0)
Forms![Previous Evaluation Form]![Individuals].Column(1)

I have this table ("people") and an example of possible rows:
id(key) COL 1 COL2 department country name
1 xx yy KPP USA John
2 zz kk KPP USA John
3 ss ff TLL USA John
4 ww qq PPO Italy Marco
5 jj uu PPO Italy Marco
I have to count the number of distinct DEPARTMENT for each NAME; so, for John should be 2 (KPP and TLL) and for Marco 1 (PPO).
I have tryed in this way:
SELECT
COUNT(DISTINCT department) AS NumberOfDifferentDepartments
FROM people
GROUP BY name;
But Access says me there is a syntax error.
I'm working with MS Access 2002.

Hi folks
I have what I reckon is a complex problem that I need to solve for my warehouse.
We hold replacement parts for the machines we sell. Some parts can be subsititued for others, so where we possible we use these parts to simplify our warehousing. Every day we get a file with demand for each part in and we look to see where we could move this demand to for those parts with a common alternative. When we find one we remove the demand from that part in the database and add it to the demand for the common part.
In operational terms we upload the demand file (.xls) to a table of the following structure
Date_added - Date
Part_number - Text
QTY - number
Thus the table holds daily demand by part. What I would like to do is use a update query to:
a) Identify the parts that have common parts to which they can be moved.
b) Add that demand to that of the common part today.
c) remove it from the original part (set to zero).
Idenitfying the parts and restricting to todays date is not a problem, however the additions and deletions are.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!

Hi, not sure if this is possible or the most economical approach but here goes:
I have a lookup table (tblHolidays) with a list of holiday dates (fieldname "HolidayDate") in it.
I need an update query that can check all "StartDate" values on a table called "tblMasterLog" and where this date matches the ones on "tblHolidays", will add 1 day to the "StartDate" and then keep repeating until there are no more dates to change.
Can this be done?!
Thanks in advance

Hey, I am currently doing an A-level ICT project and seem to be stuck at the first hurdel. My problem being that i wish to update the 'Number of sales' field for all the staff in the 'Staff' table. I have tried serveral queries to count the number of sales, which are in the 'Tickets' table for each and indidual 'Staff ID'.
This was suscuessful although i am wondering how to transfer these values into the Staff.[Number of Sales]. Also some staff had the value of 0 so did not come up in results of the querie.
Is there any possible solution or is there a more simple way to solve the problem.
Many Thanks in advance Dan Parker

What I have a a form that my lab supervisor would use. That person selects the records that are to be modified and assigns work, completes work or otherwise updates the status of the records. One of the options is to mark a record as not having a sample here if it has already been marked as having been here. So essentially, I want to modify the record to change the sample arrival date and sample number field (which is a foreign key field) to null or empty. I have created a delete query that deletes the corresponding record just fine.I just am having difficulty updating the two fields mentioned above. When the supervisor selects the record the primary key for that record is also picked up so it is easy to know exactly what record to adjust. The query returns the information to be updated just fine, it just doesn't do that. Here is the sql of the query. As I said, I don't care if the fields are empty or null. Also the fields aren't required.
Code:
UPDATE TestRequestTable SET TestRequestTable.SampleLocation = "", TestRequestTable.SampleArrivalDate = ""
WHERE (((TestRequestTable.TestRequestNumber)=[Forms]![LabScheduleForm]![TRNumberCombo]));
