Access Printout Question. A New User.

Feb 21, 2005

Ok, I am new to Access 2000, or any Access, so I don't know the lingo.
I'll try to explain my question as well as I can :

The user enters information into a record...a medical record, like a name, an address, and some
particulars like what type of medications this person is taking...asprin, amoxcicillan, whatever.

Ok, now I want to print out an instruction sheet for this person with regards to the types of
meds they're taking. This sheet would contain recommended dosage, side effects, drug interactions,
whether to take it with a meal or not. This sheet would contain all this information by looking at
"aspirin" in the peron's database file, and then expand on this information in a printout.

In other words, I type in "aspirin" and in return Access prints out a whole bunch of information
on asprin, which the person will find useful.

Now technically I know I'd have to have a (I'm assuming) seperate database with the keyword "aspirin"
and then all this information somehow stored under it. And again somehow they'd have to be linked or
queried, or mined, or whatevered into order to make it work.

Basically I think I'm asking for the equivilant of a computer-librarian. Where I can ask for information
by word (like "aspirin"), and the librarian will give me all the information available in the database.

So how do I do it? lol.
Thanks. - Eric

PrintOut Question?

Mar 12, 2007

How do I get the Print Range: SELECTION to print only specific pages? When I enter page from and page to it still prints the entire selection.

If I use Print Range: Pages, and enter the page from and page to, it prints all records, not just the selection.

Is there Visual Basic Code that can do it?

Modi Printout Shrinking 2nd + Pages

Apr 29, 2008

Hello,

Anyone know why my MODI printout code is shrinking the 2nd + pages? This is only happing with the vba printout. If I open the file right from Office Image Document and print it comes out fine. Below is the code I am using.

The c: emp est.mdi is an exsiting file.
I have also tried miPrint_Print and just printout and all do the same thing.
The document is 3 pages and only the 1st comes out normal the 2nd and 3rd page are very very small in the upper left corner. But if I print these from Image Document itself it prints fine on all 3 pages.
Code:Set MyDoc = New MODI.DocumentMyDoc.Create ("c: emp est.mdi")MyDoc.PrintOut miPRINT_ACTUALSIZESet MyDoc = Nothing

Thanks

General :: Access Multi User Database - Error On Only One User

Apr 24, 2013

I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .

All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.

Using Access's User And Group Accounts Or Using A Login Form To Access Database?

Sep 9, 2005

Using Access's User and Group Accounts or Using a Login Form to access database?

I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.

I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.

My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?

But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?

Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.

How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.

Thanks in advance.

Locking User Access To Database Objects (MS Access 2000 And 2003)

Apr 15, 2007

I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.

the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).

the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.

but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.

The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.

I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

User Access Denied In Access 2000 Runtime

Mar 11, 2006

We have two computers in a work group. On computer1 I have the back-end and front-end database files in the shared folder and 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the error message "Microsoft Access can't Find The Database 'C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsdb.mdb' Make sure you entered the correct path and filename" On computer2 I have the front-end database files in the shared folder and pointing to the same back-end database on computer1. Again 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the same error described above.

I expect that this is some sort of windows permissions issue?
There are some clues to this fact ..
The two users that can't access the database are limited accounts, but I tried making them administrators and this had no affect.
Their shared documents folder does not have a hand underneath it?

Any help on this appreciated as it's really starting to annoy me now!

Thanks.

New Access User Needs Some Help

Aug 22, 2006

I'd like to first thank you for any help you can offer on any of the following issues.

Situation: I've been tasked to streamline our in-processing requirements for new employees and told that the Access program can help tremendously. In order for this program to work I need to make it as easy to use as possible for some of my more computer illiterate bosses.

Tasker: Design a one-stop-shop program that is in-depth and both easy to input data and easy to show multiple outputs if we want. For example: If Jon Doe is coming into our business then I might need his prior work experience, social security number, date of birth, name, address, phone number, supervisor name etc. I know how to do some of this but I don’t know how to:
1. Make a drop down menu in a specific field to allow only the pre placed answers to work.

2. Allow a supervisor to see a 90 day forecast of only the employees who will require an evaluation. (this would require an easy to navigate program that allows the supervisor to click on the desired output and time frame to see the info)

3. Make it a clean and professional tool that will be relatively simple to maintain for future employees.

Thank you again for any help or reference material you can offer. Have a great day.

More Than A User To Access The Db At The Same Time

How are you?
I have a small problem...
I have an access db called MainDB, which has tables, queries, data entry form. This db (MainDB) is located in the network server.
I have another access db called BranchDB. This db (BranchDB) has no tables, it has linked tables to those tables from the MainDB, and it has the forms for view only (No Data Entry).
The problem is that users from there local machines can not access the BranchDB at the same time.
What can I do?
Your help will be highly appreciated.

Here Goes - New Access User With Silly Q

Nov 10, 2006

I have read as much as I can about using access and have decided it's time to have a play - so please forgive me if this is a silly question. Here goes.

I have a single table - it lists staff by name and staff number and shows 3 qualifications that they may or may not need (yes/no columns).

I have managed to produce queries/reports that show, for each of the 3 qualifications whcih personnel that require that qualification have not achieved it.

I now want to produce a query/report that lists any personnel that are outstanding any of their required qualifications and if so which qualification they are outstanding.

Any hints or tips would be very much appreciated.

Question From New Access User

Aug 24, 2004

This is a real beginner question.

I'm creating my first Access database and have it looking the way I want, however, when I look at it in Forms view, I can't add new contacts. The buttons to skip to the first and last records look active, but the "add new" and "move to next record" buttons are de-activated.

From what I've read in Access Help, if I'd created it in Page view instead of in Form's Design View, I could add this function quickly with the toolbox. But the toolbox in Design View doesn't have that button.

There has to be an easier solution than scrapping everything and starting over in Pages.

Thank you for any suggestions.

ps. appologies if I'm not using the correct terminology.

New Access User Needing Direction

Aug 24, 2005

I am a novice user trying to set up a db for small business and am needing a little direction. Most of the company's sales come from the contracted work for remodeling homes; however a small amount of sales are over the counter sales within their showroom.
How do I set up the db to track the following: customer info, contract sales amount & date & payments & balance due, labor costs by employee and sub contractor, materials costs, and net profit from contracted amount vs deductions of costs?
Payments made are directly related to contracted sale and not labor or material costs; with the exception of the over the counter sales. My boss currently tracks the above info in an spreedsheet ... please advise. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have all the permissions and users working fine except that as I was creating the accounts I entered phony passwords thinking that once i had everything worked out, it would be easy to edit them or change them to real ones, but I cannot figure out how to do that.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Access Front End User Permissions

Dec 8, 2006

Hi,

I have an Access front end that has linked tables to a SQL Server back end database. The connection to the back end is a via a read only user because the front end is a reporting tool for querying, viewing and reporting on the data. I am able to view the data in the front end and set up new queries. However my user has the new query icon greyed out. I have not set up any kind of permissions or security levels to my knowledge so am a little mystified as to why their permissions should be different to mine! Does anyone have any ideas please?

New Access User Questions About Our Library DB

Feb 8, 2007

Hello,
I'm new to Access. I've recently started helping here at a non-profit literacy org. They have a small library and they were keeping track of it in an Excel spreadsheet. I moved it over to an Access database which seems much more appropriate and better in a lot of ways... Anyway, I'm not sure where to look or even exactly what I need to ask but here goes.

I think what we want to do is something like an invoice. The current database has one record for every book in the library and each record has fields like: book name, checked out (yes/no), date due, and borrower name.

It was nice and easy to write a little query with "<date()" on the due date field to generate a list of overdue books, then we used Word to merge the data and generate letters to send to the people with the overdue books. The problem is that most people have checked out more than one book so our simple merge ends up making one letter for every overdue book.

The first thing we'd like to accomplish is: how do we make a table? querry? report? which makes a new table with one record per borrower then each of the books that borrower has checked out?

It doesn't matter to me which way we do it, just so long as we can end up making just one letter per borrower, with that letter having each of the books listed. This seems kind of like an invoice to me, so maybe if I looked at invoice examples that would help? But that might just be more complicated and confusing?

If it's not too hard, there's a 2nd thing we'd like to do, and that is to, either from a 2nd database, or from data in the same database, but in a different "table"(?) get the person's address and merge that into the letter too, based on the borrower name.

Sorry if I'm being an annoying NOOB ~ if you think there are some things I should read first before asking these sorts of questions, perhaps you can point me too them? I'm at the stage where I don't even know enough to know what I don't know yet.

Just for reference, I do have tons of general PC & software experience, and have learned the C/C++, BASIC, Pascal, FORTRAN (77), 65816 assembly/machine code, and even a little LISP.

:)
