I work in an office with Office2000. One branch of our non-profit organisation had a volunteer design a database in Access to track the usage of rented storage bins. The database works great for its intended purpose, however the volunteer is not available and the front-end is so locked down that I can't get into the table structure to run some usage queries I need for my own job, which is Resource Development (donations).
I don't know what to say to give more info, because the computer is a stand-alone in a different department detached from the network, so I have to physically go to the other end of the building & work in it, I can't get screencaps etc easily, and most of the menus have been disabled so it doesn't even give me the info about the version of Access etc.
I have copied a database that I used for another project for a new one. Everything is the same but when I try to use the command buttons on the form it give me "no record found" error, even though there are records in the database. I know that the Error message is the one that is writin in the database by the orginal designer, I can't quite figure out how to fix the problem I think that it has something to do with the VB coding in the comand button, becuase of the type error message that I am geting, but I don't know how to do it. I can't post the database becuase it is way to big. Everything else is working fine. What hte command button is supposed to do is update a total score percentage based off the numbers that placed in the database also any of the score can be left blank as to not count, max for each score is 5 min is zero, i.e.score1=3score2=5score3=5score4=score5=4score6=3Total Score =80.00%I hope that this makes sence.J
Ok, Let's say I go into File->Database Properties from the "main" Access screen. This brings up a window with the title "<database name> Properties" where <database name> is the same as currentproject.name.
This window has several tabs including "Summary" and "Custom." It looks like this should be stuff that I can set and then reference from within my code.
My thought is that I can use the "Title" from the "Summary" screen as a variable for all of my msgbox titles. The other interesting one is "Project" on the "Custom" tab. It looks like this may be the same sort of thing.
I've found that the Access Help is absolutely useless - I'm about ready to take a shotgun to "Clippy." But as they say, a display is a terrible thing to waste <grin>. I've also found that it's getting harder and harder to find what I'm looking for in the MSDN library. There's so much stuff and they don't always file it in logical places.
Well, thanks for reading.. sorry for the rant. As usual, any help is appreciated!
Can anyone help me please I have a client database which is linked to website is there is anyway that the database can be linked remotely.
eg if one of the company staff is on the road and want to access the database to view and see what kind of info has been stored in there. So that they can access the database remotely once its on the server. How do you make it possible for this to happen or is there some VB programming need to be done to make this possible
I have a database of books that contains all the informations about the books in a library, and ofcourse the forms for accessing the database ie searching adding editing and all this, is it possible in access to make a restriction so that only the administrator can edit or add to the database and the other users can only search for books and print reports I know the logic of creating a password table and a form with a username and a password which checks if the user can access and then open the corresponding form (using isvisible property for the edit and add botton) but even if i did that the user in reality can see the tables and the forms of the database and can change them directly please if anyone has an idea?????? thanks
From an Access Project database would like to run reports setup in another database, which contains some custom reports. I would like to go directly to the report preview not just open the second database. Can someone help me with how I would be able to accomplish this? I have tried using a macro but have not been successful.
Is it possible to access a table in one Database (Database A) from a separate Database (Database B) and if so how. I should clarify that this is an Access Database.
I have created a database, with various forms, modules and tables. Cos this is to be used where I work I have created an ACCDE version. I can't get the original version to open so that I can make changes.
If I need to take the backend of my database offline for changes, what's the best/easiest way to inform the users? Is there some code I can drop into the front end? I'm thinking a "on database open, if [available] in tblClose equals no, then open frmDatabaseOffLine". But I don't know a) if that's possible or b) how to program it.
And yes I now that's the title of a Knowledge base article, I stole it because it put into words what I can only say in expletives right now.
Basically, well it's all a bit odd. I got users on the network who, until yesterday, could access some networked databases. Other files from the same source are ok, just Access files. Today the moment they click (and I mean a single-click) on the icon to open the database...explorer hangs. You can't open the database from within MS Access either, that hangs too. But you CAN open them up and use them if you can get them copied locally. Oh yeah, some people (in the same room, on the same VLAN) can access the database, but can't perform any tasks within it. Databases are a mix of 97 and 2000. And to make matters worse, it's happening on another server.
I know you're gonna shout virus, but that looks to be a non-starter since I know of no such virus which would affect ONLY Access files and do it on a single click, and secondly The systems check out fine with both Sophos (and our good luck charm AVG) run against them.
Holy Moley! Has anyone ever come accross such a palarva?
Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.
The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.
This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.
I want to know the best way i can:
1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time. 2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.
Hi, as an attempt to improve database performance, I have split a MS Access 2003 database. I have successfully split the database and saved the backend onto the server. My question is, where is the front end. or do I have to create it?
I need help making a front and back end to my database. How should I do it!?!? All I know is what I should put in the front end and what goes in the back end. The rest needs to be explained to me somehow...
What is the best solution for sharing a front end DB as me having the BE installed at my pc, giving all user the FE and then refreshing table link with BE installed at pc but the problem is that the shared FE becoming slow any option ? as only 5 users using this at a time.
I have a database system into the back end and front end and then created the accde file with the front end file to give this to users on their computer. The back end being placed on a server with a path of type servernamefolder..I have used the Linked Table Manager to point to the tables server name folderfilename.accdb
but in doing this I get a message Windows cannot access servernamefolder..is this to do Network Rights on the server that I don't have permission to access the server and folder.
I have a split database. When the front end db is updated, i am attempting to delete the end users copy and replace with the updated version.
I have gotten as far as being able to open Database A, Open Database B with A and Close Database A, but it will not let me delete Database A from B because the procedure originated from Database A.
I created a database in Microsoft Access and then upsized it to SQL Server afterwards.
I now need to add a new column to a table in the database. So I added the new column in SQL Server using ALTER TABLE command. This column is a foreign key which has an associated parent key in another table which contains a description of the column. e.g. Main_Table Case_ID Foreign_Key_Field_ID 1234 78
New_Foreign_Key_Table Foreign_Key_Field_ID Foreign_Key_Field_Desc 78 Describes the ID 78
I also setup a CONSTRAINTREFERENCE between the fields in these 2 tables.
I then relinked my tables using the Linked Table Manager to pick up the change to the table I altered (Main_Table). I also linked to the new table I created (New_Foreign_Key_Table).
My problem: In Access if I create a new table I can select the lookup value for a field in the Table Design view Lookup tab. However, I altered my table in SQL Server and then linked to it again to pick up the change. Now when I view the linked table in Access it does not have any lookup value AND it's not possible to change this for a linked table.
Is there some piece of SQL I can use in SQL Server to change the lookup value for the field in my table OR have I approached this the wrong way. Should I have modified the local table in Access and upsized it again?
Otherwise if I select all values from my Main_Table in a form it displays the Foreign_Key_Field_ID instead of the Foreign_Key_Field_Desc because the lookup value has not been set to Foreign_Key_Field_Desc
This posting is a bit long - I hope it makes sense.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I've prepared a front end database with forms that allow data to be keyed into linked tables to my main databse.
However, currently the front end database only allows 1 user to do it at 1 time and when another user tries to open the file, an error "The Database Has Been Placed in a State by User on Machine That Prevents It From Being Opened or Locked'
Is there anyway to allow multiple users to use the front end database at the same time?
I have a back end database that i cannot access at the moment. Is it possible to set the link of the tables for the front end application based on the location that the database will be even though i can't see that location now?
I was looking to see if there was an easy way to create a user front end desktop application for a small access database.I have three users on different computers i would like them to input or amend data within one table of the access database.
I have a split db that has been in use for a few years by about 12 people. The front end is compiled into an accde file.
Ocasionally a user (randomly) might get an error message "Microsoft has detected that this database is in an inconsistent state...." when closing the db and when that happens, a copy of the front end is automatically placed on their desktop.
This front end is always deleted and the original front end continues to work just fine afterwards.
Why are my users getting this error message? Why is the front end automatically copied onto their desktops?
