Accessing An "access Denied" File.
Jun 20, 2005
Hi all,
I donīt know if this can be done at all.
When a process of some kind is using a file, you canīt access it in anyway, can you?
The reason is we have an application that locks files it is supposed to go to work on (it is a printer, merging two or more pages together before printing). The thing is it is not very stable, and every time it hangs, the pages has to go through the whole process again, even though the files are there.
Iīd like to replace the "page 1" file (which is locked waiting for the page 2 file), with a file that was processed earlier. Nothing is being written to the "page 1" file at this point, but it is locked all the same.
How does the system mark a file "access denied"?
I realize I might be in the wrong forum. Youīll forgive me.
Fuga.

I have a printer attached to COM1 which I print barcodes to, when I try to run the code I get a File/Access Denied Error 75 message.
Is there anything in Access 97 that could be causing this?

We have two computers in a work group. On computer1 I have the back-end and front-end database files in the shared folder and 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the error message "Microsoft Access can't Find The Database 'C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsdb.mdb' Make sure you entered the correct path and filename" On computer2 I have the front-end database files in the shared folder and pointing to the same back-end database on computer1. Again 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the same error described above.
I expect that this is some sort of windows permissions issue?
There are some clues to this fact ..
The two users that can't access the database are limited accounts, but I tried making them administrators and this had no affect.
Their shared documents folder does not have a hand underneath it?
Any help on this appreciated as it's really starting to annoy me now!
Thanks.

Hi all,
I have a database stored in a folder, and this folder can be accessed through a Network.
Is there a way to protect users from copying this folder to other areas? That is I would like to restrict access from users copying the folder where the database is stored.
Thanks for any suggestions and help.

But I have problem! On every button, when I click on this button (it could be button for cllosing form or any other) there is one message box with followed text:
"Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost."
I have no ideao what is going on! Even, when I create new form, put the button on it, when I click on this button, the same message appears.
Can someone help me? What is wrong with with my Access or with my Windows.

I think the damage to my database is not recoverable, but i'm still hoping.
My computer crashed when I was working on my dtabase and after restart the db is not working anymore :( If I try to do something, anything (!!!) all I got is an error message: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." But the db is on my computer, I don't use it over the network.
What can I do to make it working again?
Thanx!

Hi all,
I have been developing Access 2K applications. Lately, every time I click a command button on a form or even open the code window for a form, I got this repetitive error message. I even create BLANK Access db and re-import all objects or create brand new form and copy the control designs/code from the error one to the new one. The new db or the new form still have the same ERROR, which is as follow :
"The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure].
*There may have been an error evaluation the function, event, or macro."
Please help! Thanks so much for your suggestions/
Have a great weekend,

I have an MS-SQL backend which i use for my data source. I then use Access for reporting services. (It works so much better than SQL Reporting Services 2005).
this seems simple, but i can't get it to work. Everytime the users start up access, It pops up a login and password for the ODBC link. Even when i have the password and login setup in the ODBC DSN, it still requests it everytime you start connecting to the datasource.
Is there anyway to somehow hard code this into the Access front end somehow so i don't have to give the password to the users?

I have an access database with MP3 music stored in it.
This works file in access if I double click the access cell the the tune O want to here it works, so it looks like I can store MP3 sounds in an access database.
Not I have it in the database how can I extract it in ASP so the my new web-page will play the tune when the item is double clicked?
To play MP3 hard coded I put an embed this works with a file-name "mytune.mp3" but I want get those on the d/b.
I made this ASP:
[code]<p><%=RS("Tunename")%> <br>
<embed src= "<%=RS("MUSIC")%>"
width="252" height="36"></embed></p>
where Music is the name of the cell containing the MP3 file.
This gave me:
[code]<p>mytune <br>
<embed src= "?$" width="252" height="36"></embed></p>
Any ideas what I need to do to get this to play?

There are those builtin bmp images in access e.g. delete, edit, select, filter, etc etc. I am trying to access the location of these small bitmap images and use them for a web application i am creating. Do you know where they are located? I am searched with no luck.
Someone also sent me an access db, i'd like to reuse the buttons (same bitmap images: edit, delete) from this access db. Where do i go to extract the images?

We're running an Access 2010 web database.
As expected when we published to Sharepoint additional fields were added to the Access tables [App Created By] and [App Modified by]. We want to use these fields for Audit information however they are always empty. How should they be populated?

I got these three code routines for backing up an Access database file from two different forums. I installed them as is, on a test database, creating command buttons for each. The test database is not password protected. I intend (if I can get one of these working) to install it on simple, single file, password protected databases.The first two came from Access World Forums at: URL....
Code:
Function BACKUPS()
On Error GoTo Err_BACKUPS
Dim fso As Object
Dim sSourcePath As String
Dim sSourceFile As String
Dim sBackupPath As String
Dim sBackupFile As String
[code]....
I got a compile error "Invalid use of property." on the button sub. Then there was a simple On Click sub:
Code:
Private Sub Backup_Click()
Dim fs
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
fs.CopyFile CurrentProject.FullName, "C:", True
Set fs = Nothing
MsgBox "Database has been backed up successfully"
End Sub
Private Sub Command32_Click()
End Sub
On this one I got a "Permission denied." error on the CopyFile method. As I said before, my database is not password protected.I found this third bit of code on another forum: URL...
Code:
Public Function db_Backup()
On Error GoTo db_Backup_Err
Dim sourceFile As String, destinationFile As String
Dim aFSO As Variant
Dim path As String, name As String
[code]....
On this one I got another "Permission denied." error on the CopyFile method. Again, my database is not password protected. This code had appeared to me to be the most promising of the three.

Is it possible to access "Database B" (an Access Database) from a switchboard in "Database B" (A separate Access Database)? And, if so, how?
This is the third question I have asked on this forum and with each of the previous question the answers have been very helpful. Just want to say thanks in advance to everyone that is a part of this. Good job all.

I often create contract using mail merge. I have an access file that I want to use as data source for word file. But it does not automatically.
Please download the attached file !
If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.
Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.
Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.
In short, I wish to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.

I have a button in the form of the current access file. What I want to do is when the user click on the button,
triggered the vba to backup current access file. But since the file is currently open, is this possible? If yes, may I know how to do it with vba?
I have tried two methods but failed:
1) Use copytofile method, but I get permission denied due to file open;
2) Use dbengine.compactdatabase method, but it also has problem if the file is open.

I'm experimenting with MS Access, and I've successfully split an MDB someone created into two files. I can access the database from 2 computers at once using the front end file connecting to a file server which hosts the _be.mdb file.
Could the _be.mdb file theoretically be on a NAS without any computer attached, or is there some runtime or full version of Access that needs to run on the machine with the back end file?
