I am just contimplating the best way to add word files into my database. I know you can add them as objects, however when they appear on the form they seem a bit 'messy'.
Does anyone have anytips how to make this look more professional, perhaps the use of links, or buttons?
A front end written in Access (back end mySQL). I have made a .mde file out of this front end. There are a number of MS Word documents used (as merge documents) for running reports and letters that are linked to queries in the database. However, I can only link these documents to the original .MDB file as you can't link to the queries ni the .mde file.
This works fine until you have a query that requires a parameter from a form. The user will have selected the parameter from the .mde version of the front end that they are using but the query which is being called from the .mdb version (by the Word merge document) can't see this parameter because it is a totally separate database.
How can I get around this problem?
Sorry this is a lengthy post, hope it makes sense.
Folks I need your help; just wanted to get your opinions here.
I work in a small engineering group and we have lots of reference documents in word and excel which we typically use for any projects. Currently, all these files are stored in Lotus Notes database. Unfortunately, they are pulling the plug on Notes license starting this fall. Therefore, I have been asked to see if there is a way we can store these files in Access as a repository and query the database whenever we need some information.
In order to avoid the database size getting too big, my thought was to store the .xls/.doc files as an “OLE object” data type, keep the files in local hard drive and create a link in a form to give the user to retrieve the information.
Do any of you have any suggestion on what is the best way to handle this?
I just wanted to know if I could edit the access interface so that the access help options would not be displayed, but I can add a link to my own created HTML help files for the system I have created. Is it possible?
Just looking for some more advice I am creating an application that contains employee details in access. I have the majority of the database working but I am stuck on a couple of thins, Firstly I would like to add the option to be able to add an employees CV to the databse and an option to open this. I found a good example that I thought would help me and it did in post 11 of the thread below but I cannot get the files to open in MS word so they can be viewed. The majority of the files to be opened will be ms word format. I just get the error object doesnt support this property or method
I have a form for adding new records. They are for people and I add in a bmp image of them. I want to create an automation. Where you press a button to add a photo. Find a jpeg you want. Then it is resized, converted to bmp and saved in the database. Is this easy enough to achieve? (size 256x188px)
I am attempting to create a database where I can input a number that will display a word document, and pdf's, and be able to toggle through them. I have all the data compiled. I just need to present it in some type of a front.
I'm trying to add the information from a form and subforms to a report. This would be a medication mar sheet and needs to be in the format of the attached word document. I'm happy to do it in a report and change the formatting if that will work better. The personal info needs to go at the top and the medication needs to be listed on each sheet.
The form is called FrmMarSheet. It basically needs the info from that like the "sample mar sheet.doc". I can only get one medication per page to work at the moment.
I have a code to add links to files into a field, I recently migrated from Windows 7 to 8 and the name of the folders in 8 are different; therefore the database I have does not find the linked file anylonger.
To avoid this happening in future, I would like to have the option for the user to set the folder path through maybe a table and then the link will refer to the settings in the table.
Currently I am using the following code:
Private Sub AddLinkDoc_Click() Dim strFilter As String Dim strInputFileName As String Dim varDirectory As String varDirectory = "C:UsersMarco TagliaferriDocumentsBA CityflyerCrew SchedulerDocumentationDocs"
I know it's possible to use Access to create a Word document and think it's possible to have a button (or combobox) open a Word document saved on the hard drive. If I'm correct with the second belief, the Word file(s) would need to be moved with the Access database if it's moved to another directory or PC.
Is it possible to save the Word (or other) files within the database itself so simply moving the database to another directory or PC would take the "embedded" files with it? I realise that the database file size will increase, but suspect that this increase would be similar to the size of the individual Word files.
I understand how to pass text boxes to bookmarked locations in Word, but when it comes to combo boxes, list boxes, or option buttons, I am lost. So, my problem this time is the following:
I have an access user form that is asking the user to input data and make selections. Once entered I am trying to get everything to export directly to respective bookmarked locations in a Word Report. I have my text boxes working and I have the combo box now working. The issue I am experiencing is with the user making multiple selections from a list box and I am not really sure how to get that to export to the word document.
Here is what I have:
Code: Dim strNames As String Dim ctl As Control Dim varItem as Variant 'ensure the user has made a selection from the testers name text box If Me.testersNamesText.ItemsSelected.Count = 0 Then MsgBox "You must select at least 1 Capability Testers Name"
[Code] ....
I am very new to trying to code with the Visual Basic side of things, I know this is probably the best method to do this but the issue that I am experiencing is receiving a Null error for the line with
And when I attempt to pass the strNames in place of the testersNamesText I receive that the user form can't find the field "strNames" referred to in my expression.
I have to write a code for my database,i have folder with files "pending Review" and a table with column "tblExcelLocation". when i run my database all the files from pending review folder goes to "tblExcelLocation" on a click of button. But,if the files already exists it should not insert those files and insert the rest. For this i tried to write a code but i think i m unable to do that .
Code: Loop through files in folder folderspec = "O:QA FilesQC ReportingPending Review" Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set f = fs.GetFolder(folderspec) Set fc = f.files
How to match 4 character word or number or combination by identical 4 characters word or number or combination in one word have 10 or 15 characters.
I have to two separate tables (Table A and Table B). Table A has one column (Tag No) and Table B has about 15 columns with one column name Tag No as below
Table A
Table B
Tag No
Tag No
2009
ZZZ-2030-DC
2010
ZZZ-2010-M9P
[code]....
They're both in MS Access.I am trying to match 2 tables - columns (Tag No) with join query, but not success. I want to match 4 characters in Table-A with 4 similar characters in Table-B (Tag No) cell. What query is suitable to compare two tables.
My end goal is to populate a pre-existing table in an MS Word document with records from a query. The easiest way I've found (through scouring the internet) is to start with the code below (ran during OnClick() even in Access) to get the table the same size as the recordset:
Code: Dim wDoc As Word.Document Dim wTable As Word.Table Dim wCell As Word.Cell Set wDoc = appWord.Documents.Add(strDocLoc) wDoc.Visible = True
[Code] ....
The code will shrink the table down just fine if the table has more rows than the recordset +1 (for header column). My hangup with this is the last line ("Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5") isn't executing; rows are not being added to the table. I get no errors -- it just does nothing. I set it as "Selection.InsertRowsBelow 5" arbitrarily just to see if it would even add rows, and sure enough it's not.
Every hour a zip file is created in an FTP folder. The zip file contains an .mdb access database file with any changes to the data since the last hours file.
What is the best method to get access to connect to the content of the zip files and pick up the changes to the data?
Just a quick one, I couldn`t find anything on this or in any books I have.
I`m assuming I need to create an MDE file befire I can distribute my database for other people to use ?
Anyway, that I have done, but the question is, I`ve done this and have a select number of ppl using my database, entering LIVE data etc.
Once This has been done can I open this back up in access and make changes to the database, eg forms, reports etc etc ? If not, is there anyway, I can pull the data out of this and import it into my origanal file, which can then be remade into an MDE ?
HI I hope that someone can help me, I know it's not that hard, but I have never done it. Actually, I have a folder that has like 340 excel files. Is there a way I can write a vba code in either excel or access to get the file names in like a table or so, it's gonna take for ever to type them in manually. I only need to get the file name and they are all excel files. Please Help If You Can. Thanks.

Is there any way to embed html type help file in an .mdb/.mde file? I have created an html type file, MS Word saves it as an .mht (Whayever that is?). Is my only option going to be to distribute this .mht with the .mde? How do you access the help file from with in Access?
What are some other relatively easy user help authoring options?
I have a locking file that I can't seem to remove. No one is in the database that's associated with the file but it tells me there's been a sharing violation. Can anyone tell me how to remove those files?
