Adding New Record To All Tables For 1 Table Primary Key Entry
Oct 20, 2006
Hi, I have 7 tables in my database and 1 form corresponding to all the fields in these tables (linked by a query by recordsource). My problem is that the form will only show a record if ALL 7 tables have manually had the primary key entered (not good when i have information that needs to be added at different times). How can I make it such that if I create a new record on the form that all primary key fields will be updated, and this record will be present every time i open my the form??
I am building a database to capture monthly statistics on a number of items. I want to ensure that users don't enter statistics for the same item for the same reporting period. I found the following instruction, but can't make it work:
It suggests that I create multiple primary keys in the table
When I do it, it comes back with an error: Index or primary key cannot contain a null value.
I am creating a form to add records to my database. I have created a primary key that is not autonumber. When adding a new record, I want the form to put a primary key default value of the next number in sequence. How do I do this?
I have a table A in which I write down orders for cars. A record is an order. A single order may contain multiple cars in varying quantities. Each car has its components. Some cars may have some of their components common. There is a table B which indicates each car and its components required with their quantities required to build the car. There is a record for each different car.
Now suppose there is a new car we are going to produce so we need a new record in table B for the car and all its components. Also we need a new field in table A because people can now order the new car(in some quantity).
With form for table B we can introduce a new record. But how can we add a field in table A automatically after a record is added in table B?
I have a simple database that I inherited, that contains basic customer contact info. We want to start adding more functionality to the database, so I've done alot of research to learn about how to begin normalizing my data. The existing table does not contain a useful primary key, since we may have multiple individuals from the same company, companies with very similar names, etc.
I would like to add an AutoNumbered field to use as a CustomerID/primary key, but I can't seem to find a way to do so. Here is what I've tried so far:
I have tried to add a field to the table, and make it an AutoNumber data type. When I do so, I can error message saying that I cannot make a field AutoNumber if any other field in the table already has data entered in it.I have tried to create a new table containing only an AutoNumber PrimaryID field, and then import data from the existing table, but that just creates a 3rd table.
I have created a database and I have the same primary key(SITE) for more than one table. I can not seem to figure out how to create a query to add an entry to all the tables that have site as the primary key. Also, I am running Access 2003
I have a form for entry and some fields are computed or result of a query from another table. I have a function that looks up a value from another table like so
************************************************** ******** Public Function GetTargetType() As Variant GetTargetType = DLookup("type", "tblFormulations", "[tblFormulations!formulation]=Forms![frmNmsConsumptionEntry]![formulation]") End Function ************************************************** ********
Which works fine when I test in the immediate window. Then I have this form event. This however does not insert this value when I am adding records using my continuous form.
************************************************** ******** Private Sub Form_BeforeInsert(Cancel As Integer) Me!target_group = GetTargetType() 'Forms!frmNmsConsumptionEntry!target_group = GetTargetType() '[tblNmsConsumption.target_group] = GetTargetType() End Sub ************************************************** ********
making sure I can insert this value once retrieved.
My problem is that I am trying to update a field (called 'Sold' which is a yes/no checkbox column) for a specific record whenever an event is triggered. I have two forms (derived from two tables), one is called frmInventory and the other is called frmSales. In frmSales, I made a combo box called 'cboItemID' that allows the user to select from a list of items from my inventory table. Each selection from the list has 4 properties, the first of which is the 'Item ID' from the inventory table. Lastly, I have a field in both frmSales and frmInventory called 'Sold' as mentioned above. What I want to do is that whenever I check/uncheck the box in the 'Sold' field in frmSales, I want the 'Sold' field in frmInventory to check/uncheck as well, but only in the record with an 'Item ID' that matches the 'Item ID' from the combo box selection. In other words, I want to match the 'Sold' field in frmInventory with the 'Sold' field in frmSales, but for only the record that has the same 'Item ID' primary key as the one I picked from my selection in the combo box from frmSales.
how to reference another table and check whether or not it's 'Item ID' primary key is identical to the one I specified from the combo box, and then take action to update the 'Sold' field if the IDs match.
I have a table for a multiple parents linked to a child table. I need to figure out a way to only allow 1 parent to be coded as primary, 1 as secondary, and then the rest as other... I thought about making Primary/Secondary/Other a primary key. But then I can only have 1 other. I would have to make a finite number of parents that could be entered and I want an infinite number.... My end goal is to have a report that only has a primary and second parent on it, but the rest of the parents still exist in the table...
tblShops have an ID, an adress, bussines name, owner name, etc every Shop can be inspected many times. A inspection can be futile if the store is closed. If the store is open, the inspection is made, and as result with can have “with irregularities” “without irregularities”. Two or more inspections can be made the same day (if the n – 1 time the store was close).
So, here is the basic select:
SELECT tblBusiness.idBusiness, tblBusiness.BussinessName, tblInspection.InspectionDate, tblnspeccion.InspeccionTime, tblInspection.Open, tblInspection.Irregularity FROM tblBusiness INNER JOIN tblInspection ON tblBusiness.idBusiness = tblInspection.idBusiness;
What I need is to get the LAST inspection where the bussines was open and with irregularies. One inspection per Business, but of all business. Ah, and if there ir a newer inspection but the business was close, it doesn´t count.
I tried “Group by MAX” with InspectionDate, but it just didn´t work. For example, it showed me two inspection of the same business, not “the last” of that bussiness (it was easy to filter the Open field and the Irregularity field).
I suspect that what I need to solve this is to use two or more SQL stament, two in one., something like that. But I´m in a hurry and I just can seem to get it right.
I hope you can help me with this. Thanks for reading anyway.
P.S.: the fact that there can be more than one inspection per day can be a bitch =(
but there is a "InspectionTime" that can save that". Mmm the problem is that one inspection can be made 1 july around 20:00, but the seccond on 2 july 01:00. But we store the two inspections in 1 july... so... that mens problem.
But that issue is not so important as the previous problem up there (well, in order to solve the seccond I need to solve the firts...)
In a many-to-many relation, one create joint table and use two columns of both ID's in a Composite way. This what the text books recommend.I had a Form/subform to view the relation between the two table. I tried to add to the subform a new relation Access did not allow me to do it. I can go to the joint table in datasheet view and ADD to my heart content observing the unique condition.
If I change the design of the joint table to auto as PK and the two ID's with no PK in either, I can update from the subform .WHY the Composite Keys do not allow me to update the joint table by adding new records in the subform ???
Hi How can I make the primary key (participant #) in my table equal the record number on the Form? In other words, when I open the form, I need two things to always happen: 1. the primary key must equal the record number (which is displayed on the form)& 2. when I click "Add New Record" button, I want a new customer # automatically generated and in the correct order.
I want to change misspelled records, but the misspells are in the primary key of my table. By changing the values of primary key fields, can I break table relationships? I'm not changing field names, just field values of a primary key field.
I got a product table that I want to link with Customer Table.
To relate one to many I have a IDCustomer on my product table that is about 1000 rows.
I can link and all is working.
But in the product table I need a Primary Key that is shorteer in rows (only 15 rows) and access won't let me create such a primary key because it contains null value.
I Need Product ID (as primary key) to relate to another table which I will name Product details.
I'm pretty new to making databases outside of a basic access class..Is it possible to make a record in one table that makes a new record in 5 different tables using different bits of the initial record?I want to use the data entered in an evaluation form to create a new entry with the basic identifying information in 4 different tables.
I want to be able to pre-fill records with information based on a form every day for each client. This needs to display in a datasheet view showing all clients for each location.
Each day the subform needs to show the expected results of that day's activity with clients if all default conditions are met. (i.e. client receives a call that day based on expected conditions calculated in a form for that day).
I am trying to model my database to create relationships between different tables in my database. During the process of doing so I ended up having one primary key in table A linked with to foreign keys in two different tables ( table B & table C) and both of those two table are junction tables to break out many to many between many other tables
Now for some reason!!! I feel that there is something wrong with my logic mapping and modeling of the relationships between tables due the fact of having one primary key linked to two foreign keys in two different tables :(
Is my intuition is right? should such case be considered as indicative of wrong modeling of relationships between tables in a single database And if so what is the disadvantages of that link (talking down the road) when the database if fully populated?
By the way I am new member and new to database, so please take it easy on me :o
How to I combine 2 tables with the same primary key to make one table? I have seen several thigns but none have worked. I seen inner and outer joins. All 4 of my tables have the same primary key. I just want to combine all the tables to make one table. I have a form with subforms but if I can combine all the tables and work off one rather then 4 I will be happier. Every week to 2 weeks I upload new data from excel. How would I after I add the new data combine all tables to one super table?
Right now, I have 4 related tables. There's a table with companies, one with people involved with companies, a table linking the two by having foreign keys of the company number and people names, and a table that indicates directors and their alternates.
Since there's a one-to-many relationship for companies/people to company-peopleID (A person can run multiple companies, a company has multiple directors, it's easier this way), a person's name can appear multiple times, as can a company, within that table.
In a company, a director may or may not have 1 and only 1 alternate director to him/herself. So, I thought the easiest way was to put an autonumber in the Company-personID table and have a table (alternates) that had two fields, "alternate" and "director", both using that autonumber to link them. However, it appears as though I can't link the same primary key twice to two foreign keys of the same table.
I am using Access 2007 on my front-end and SQL Server 2014 on the back-end. I have a table of Car Dealers and a table of contacts at the dealerships. These tables are SQL tables. The user can select a dealer and then see everyone that works at that dealership. When they look at this there is a field called Email. This is a hyperlink that they can click on to open Outlook and send an email. The table called DealerEmails is an Access table. My table layout is:
DealerEmails ----------------- ID (PK) DealerContactID (FK) Email ModifiedBy ModifiedDate
Now I'm trying to write the code to add a new contact. My code works but I need to obtain the AutoNumber from When I add a new record to the table dbo_DealerContact. My code is:
Code: Option Compare Database Option Explicit Dim adoDealerContacts As New ADODB.Recordset Dim daoDealerEmails As DAO.Recordset Private Sub cmdSave_Click()
[Code] ....
I tried to add Me.Dirty=False, but this still returned a value of 0 into my variable intDealerContactID.
I also tried moving intDealerContactID = .Fields("ID").Value outside of the With block.
I'm aware that there is a command in SQL @@Identity. But I'm unsure how to use it in this context.
Is there a way to get the primary key from dbo_DealerContacts so I can insert that into my Emails table?
I've got a working database with pretty good structure etc. How I would go about creating 3 prepopulated records on a many side of a relationship on entering a new record in the one side of the relationship.
Can I determine what the 1st and last entries are with a key from a different table
For example I have a job parts table (ID= JOBPARTID). There is a specific part that may be replaced several times. I keep these parts on a separate table called swaps. The swaps table is purely
Access 2010..One organization that we work with provides us with a block of numbers for each of the two types of contract products we order from them; we do order non-contract stuff from them also. The block of numbers are the same (i.e. 20000 to 30000 this year) for each of the two products. This means that each product can have the number 20000, for example. We call this the Tracking Number. If it is one of these products, we need to select the Contract Number.
For all other one off orders we have with them, we assign our own Tracking Number starting with 00001. This Tracking Number cannot duplicate unless it is one of the aforementioned two products. Both the Tracking Number and Contract Number are in the same table. The user selects the Contract Number from a form (connected to the Contract Number table that has all the details on the contract) and the Contract Number is populated in the same table that has the Tracking Number. Each order must have a Tracking Number (no null)..Not all orders need a Contract Number (null okay). The Tracking Number and Contract Number combination cannot duplicate.I tried setting the primary keys to more than one field in the table, but they cannot have null values.
If not... I have been working on Plan B.... an AfterUpdate on the form (either the form or a field... don't know yet) that looks at a query that only has results if there are duplicate values.
