Adding Old Records To New Database

Jun 6, 2007

Hi there,

I have a bit of a dilemma here.

I have an old database, which is very comprehensive, filled with client names, addresses, and other information.

I have been given a new database, which is more relational and effectient, which splits the client addresses into a seperate table.

I need to add the old data to the new database - so is there a way of doing this whilst maintaining the links between the old addresses and the rest of the old data? What I don't want to have to do is end up going through 3000+ entries sorting out what new CompanyID I should assign...

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Adding Records To An Access Database

Aug 9, 2006

I'm trying to add a record to the members table in the access database located at c:dbmyforum.mdb. So I looked it up and did a copy and paste from an example, and edited it to match what i need. here's what I've got:

Code:<html><body><%set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")conn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0"conn.Open "c:/db/myforum.mdb"sql="INSERT INTO Members (SN,Password,)"sql=sql & " VALUES "sql=sql & "('" & Request.Form("sn") & "',"sql=sql & "'" & Request.Form("pw") & "')"on error resume nextconn.Execute sql,recaffectedif err<>0 then Response.Write("No update permissions!")else Response.Write("<h3>" & recaffected & " record added</h3>")end ifconn.close%></body></html>

But it keeps coming back with errors. What am I doing wrong? I'm sure that the info from the form is going through, and I've checked the sql several times, although I'm not sure about the vb script cause I'm new to asp(trying to learn it now).

Adding Lost Records Back To A Database

Jan 30, 2006

Hi

I was wondering if any one could help me.

I have a database at work with 5500 records, how ever the first 1000 have been lost. There remains records for each customer but the first 1000 records showing what they ordered have disapeared.

I have back ups of the database going back with the first 1000 records complete.

How would i take the 1000 records and add this to the current database where the information is missing? so it wouldnt mess up recent records?
could some one provide me with a step by step account. Would be much appreciated!

Many thanks

Modules & VBA :: Appending / Adding Certain Records To Another Database

Feb 17, 2015

The goal I am trying to accomplish using VBA within Access 2010 is to append/add certain records to another database (Customer Service) from my database (Client Request). I tried using a macro to append then update records in my database but there is a "lag" time as to when the information is updated in the 'Customer Service' database causing my updates not to occur.

Here is the SQL from my query:

INSERT INTO Issues ( Customer, Title, [Due Date], [Opened By], [Opened Date], Priority, Comments, [Job Number], Description )
SELECT [TBL003_Combined Data].CUSTOMER, [TBL003_Combined Data].TITLE, [TBL003_Combined Data].[DUE DATE], [TBL003_Combined Data].[OPENED BY], [TBL003_Combined Data].[OPENED DATE], [TBL003_Combined Data].PRIORITY,

[Code] ....

And here is how I "thought" I could fix it through Access VBA:

Function UpdateIssuesDatabase()
Dim con As Object
Set con = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
On Error GoTo UpdateIssuesDatabase_OpenError
con.Open _

[Code] .....

I have highlighted where it is giving me the issue.

Adding Function To Database

Mar 1, 2006

Any help would be really appreciated...

I have a database in the database I have products customers orders etc.

In Products table I have productid price etc. I would like to create another table and this table should consist of all product parts for example.

ProductID x uses
metalnumber23
stone45
plasticnumber43

so all metalnumber23, stone45, plasticnumber43 will be in Parts (new table that i will create) when i am entering a productid to Product table for that productid i should be able to choose which parts from parts table that it uses.

so in the order table if i customer ordered productID x I should be able to see all the parts that ProductID needs in the parts Parts table. There will be maybe 2000 parts but ProductID x will use only 3 of them. And if I create a query lets say order from z date to y dates I should be able to see parts needed for those products ordered.
hope you guys understand and give me a head start i would really appreciete

Jun 12, 2006

In the tables, i have made the field OLE object. When i try to add the foto (about 97kb) jpg format, all it does is add a picture of the jpg icon on my field. If i double click on the icon my foto will open, but i wish to have the foto showing in my record. Anyone help me with any ideas? I am using access 2003

Adding Images To Database

Sep 6, 2007

Hello

First let me apologize if I am being stupid, quite new to Access. I am trying to create a database with some pictures in it; I want to design a form that changes the image with each record, (Its for work they want a database of our employees info with a photo of each employee) reading though the help file it seams I need to add a bound image control, I have tried 2 different ways and am still getting the same problem, the first way I tried was to create a text field with the address off the photos (there are .jpg’s) and then add a bound image control on the form and link it to the field. Problem is this just displays the name of the file not the picture (e.g. as you go though the records it shows Mark.jpg, Simon, jpg, Louise.jpg….) I then tried to add a OLE field and add the files that way, if I click on add from file when creating the object I get the same problem just displays the file name, If I click create new bitmap image it works and displays the picture, the problem is the data base file then becomes huge (it was 45 meg with 2 photos, I need to add about 150 in total!. Am I being totaly dumb, is there a way of getting Access to display Jpg’s and ideally have them linked to instead of embedded to keep the size of the database down.

Sorry for rambling! (oh yeh and I am using Access 2003)

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Adding Records

Oct 10, 2005

This is probably an age old question but after a search I could not find the answer.
I have a table with 3 fields..... last, first, ssn
I have a form with 3 text boxes. I want users to input data into those text boxes and that data inserted into the table. The code I have figured out, the problem is access tells me I cannot add to the table because the controls do not have focus. Well, I can set focus to one control at a time but then that adds three separate entrees. Am I doing this the real hard way? Im sure there is an easier way to add records to a table with multiple fields.
Thanks

Adding New Records

Oct 28, 2005

I have am building a program that requires a staff person to enter a daily activity report on employee activity. It's initiated by adding a new record
that will allow the selection of an employees name and ID number from a drop box into respective first name, last name and ID fields. The staff person would then go on to complete the daily report by adding information in several other fields.
My form is based on a relational query built from two tables; tblClient and tbldailyreport.

Any help would be appreciated.

Adding New Records

Feb 22, 2005

I have set up a form which is linked to a table. When the form is opened from a menu it goes straight into a new record which is what I want.

However by using the wheel on the mouse the user is able to scroll through all records in the table.

All I want the user to do is simply add a new record and not be able to amend the old records (this is done elsewhere in the database)

how do I do this?

cheers

Adding New Records

May 5, 2005

Hi,
I am having a problem with a form in that I can no longer add new records to it!
The data comes from a query formed of 2 tables, linked by a 1-many relationship. I can add records to both the underlying tables and the query with no problem, but in the form I can't. I get no error message when I try to add a new record, just the windows error bleep. Properties for the form are exactly as they were last time it worked properly.
I have made changes to the database since - but not to this form specifically.
Any ideas of what I might have inadvertently done?
Many thanks

Reports :: Adding Another Expression To Database

Jul 21, 2013

in my daily roll call report i have 2 groups..."on program" and "graduates" these 2 groups are creating in the query...as u see in the 2nd pic... the expression as followed

Expr1: IIf([Date Graduated]<Date(),Date(),[Date Graduated])

next you can see in my 3rd pic the report and the expression that gives the 2 groups there names...it is as followed

=IIf(IsNull([Date Out]),IIf(IsNull([Date Graduated]),"On Program","Graduates"),"Recent Departures")

i will clarify that i took out the names in the roll call but both groups are sorted by the date they came in going down the list..now i need to add another group "Staff Members" to my roll call.every way i have tried altering the query expression or the report expression result in a blank roll call.

Adding New Element To Existing Database

Dec 8, 2011

I was tasked by my CFO yesterday to add a new element to my existing database. I will try to keep what I am trying to do simple.

Basically we do finance for multiple projects. each project has employers.

My database records these employers names, SSN, dates registered, program they are in, and a few other elements as well.

What I have been tasked to do is create a new table with the project managers in that table. this way in a query or report i can pull "sally sue's" projects or whoever I needed to. There are many PM's who have more than one project.

Here is what I have for relationships:

On the Project Managers table I have a PK for ID and then the PM Name as a second field. the ID field is linked to the Programs table which has a PM ID and Program name

The Program table is also related to the employer table which has all of the employers and their info. the relation between the two tables is the Program Name.

So when I run a query or report my goal is to be able to pick any project manager and get the associated count of employers under all of that projects managers programs. I have gotten errors when running queries. Perhaps I have the relationships set up wrong?

Adding Images To Records

Jul 31, 2006

Hi there,

I got myself pretty much backed into a corner here. I am trying to add images to records. For example, in my database there will be certificates scanned and put on each specific record. I have been searching high and low and found that the OLE object tool will allow me to do this. However, the only method I've found was to right click right in the table and selecting add object. I'm trying to find a more userfriendly method. I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

Need Help With Adding Multiple Records

Jul 5, 2005

I believe this can be done with a query, but am having problems with it.

What i have is a db with a table for employee another table for training items and a third table to tie them both together. These employees are divided into several "teams" (team 1, team 2 etc ...) The training items are assigned to some or all of the teams. ( i know that this is a many to many relationship and i believe that is where i get confused ) Now the problem. What i would like to do is have a form that will allow the user to assign a new training item to teams 4, 5 and 6 and have access automatically create a record in the table. Now that the 20 or so employees that are assigned these training items will have a record that the user can simply fill in a date when the training has been completed by the employee.

I believe what i am looking for is an append query. Is that right?? Have been playing with this one for awhile and have no luck so i would appreciate any help i can get on this one

thanks again

Adding Records With Realtions DB's...

Mar 7, 2005

OK, this is the database I have so far. When a new customer is added, the user can enter up to 5 items in the tbldesweight table.

I currently have tblorder as a subform in a simple form for adding customer details. When a new record is added for the customer, it adds the same custid value into the tblorder table, but the orderid (which is set as an autonumber) dosen't get added, thus stopping the tblcust relating to data in the tbldesweight table.

Any pointers on how to get this to work?

Automated Adding Of Records

Apr 6, 2005

Hi All. I hope this is in the right forum.
This is an example of the sort of thing that I am trying to acheive.

I am building a database to connect rooms. i.e (Building1, Floor1, Room1) connected to (Building2, Floor2, Room2)

I have 2 forms (frmBuilding) to add building names and (frmFloor) to add floor numbers.
On the other form (frmConnect) , I have the current location (Building and Floor) and I have a subform in datasheet view. I have 2 combo box's (both with a query as the source), one to pick a building I added in frm building, and the other to pick a floor I added in frmfloor. I also have a text box, where I add the room number.

This is would like to do if possible.

Try and automate the adding of records, so, for example, if I am adding records of (Building1, Floor1, Room1), (Building1, Floor1, Room2), (Building1, Floor1, Room3) to the subform, it will ask me how many rooms I want to connect, in this case 3, and then add them, keeping the building and floor numbers the same.
(I think I am explaining this more complicated than it is, sorry!!)

Can someone point me in the right direction? I have been playing about with queries.....is this correct?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Frank.

Adding Records To A Combo Box

May 17, 2005

Hi all,

I have a data entry screen that requires the user to select a assessment type from a combo box that gets its values from a separate table. So far i have 3 Assessment types, these are Quality, Manufacturing and Technical.

If the assessment type they want is not is the combo box list. I want them to be able to type in the assessement type in the combo box and have it saved to the assessment type list so that in future it will be availible directly from the combo box.

Any ideas on how i can do this as it's giving me a head ache....

Many thanks in advance.

Adding Records Through A Form

Aug 31, 2005

I have a number of tables all with there corresponding forms. I am needing to have a command button on the form for the user to easily add a new record. Obviously this is easy by just using the wizard but my problem is that I need the record to be added over all the tables.

This is an attendance database with tables for each month. So when a new member of staff joins and there record is added for that particular month I would like it to be added to all subsequent tables as well. Is there a way of doing this. It would also be beneficial if a similar thing could be done for deleting staff (i.e. a staff member is deleted from one table and subsequently is removed from the other tables)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
