Append To Next Record?

Jan 22, 2008

Is it possible to create a query and/or macro to copy fields 6-10 of the current record seen in a form to fields 1-5 of the next, already existing record in the table? The typical append query wants to create a new record, but I want the fields to be copied to the next record which already exists. Thanks!

Append Same Record

Dec 19, 2005

I know when you see these you will think, "What are you doing?" So, I will tell you. I have to append certain records to another table multiple times. I have a field that stores the number of times the record needs to be appended. I thought that I could do it with SQL and a loop, but I can not get it. Any ideas?

Copy And Append A Record

Feb 28, 2012

I have followed the development of Access from the early beginning, and even before the early beginning with databases like Q&A, Foxbase etc. I have survived with Access 2002 for a long time. However, the unavoidable string of events has given us more and more complex systems (for the noble purpose of making life easier, I assume). In my particular case I now have an up-to-date system (Access 2010) that I do no handle. My impression is that also the experts have trouble. I am now close to discard Access 2010 as too complex for my simple needs.

Here follows an example of a database that was easy to construct in Access 2002 but which I have major problems to reconstruct in Access 2010: The database in question shall keep track of expenses. The database have fields like date, project, type of merchandise, description of merchandise, price, name of store, notes, hyperlinks.

On opening the database I want a search screen (a form) that is exactly identical to the records I am going to produce (except that all fields are empty). On the search screen I put a search topic (e.g. the name of a store), and then initiate the search by pressing a fast key. The search result generates a number of records, I move on to the last one, I copy it, and on the copied record I do the necessary adjustments. The whole operation is done in a matter of seconds. The procedure is functional, and it gives me what I want.

I have made some "work around" procedures that bring me to the final touch, namely to copy/paste the record.

Append Query - Single Record

May 18, 2005

Hi,
I am trying to run an append query, but instead of appending the whole table, I would like to only append a single record.

I have an append query, and it works like a charm. I can also get it to work with prompting the user for a parameter (in my case LeaseId which is a primary key). When the user is prompted and enters the LeaseId it only appends the single matching record. Works like a charm.

However, I don't want to prompt the user for the paramater. I want the user to generate the LeaseId based on the selections in two combo boxes.

So far the I do get the right LeaseId, but I have no idea how to actually pass the LeaseId to the query. I've tried the following, but I know it's completely wrong.

stDocName = "approveLease"
DoCmd.OpenQuery stDocName, acNormal, acEdit, "[LeaseId]=" & Me.buildingCombo.Column(0)

Any ideas on how to actually accomplish this?

Append Query To Current Record Only

Dec 21, 2007

This is my first time posting to a forum so don't hesitate to correct me if I am doing something wrong.

I am trying to create autofill templates based on the worktype.

How do I append data to the current record only!

I have a table that contains all of the job information including a record autonumber.

I have made a form using this table and it includes a subform for charge items from a separate table.

My users are complaining about having to key in every line item and want the form to autofill the subform for charge items based on the worktype field.

I have written an append query which is correctly extracting the worktype field and updating the charge items fields but it is doing so for every record with the same work type. I just want it to update the current record I am looking at.

Append String To Current Record

Jan 21, 2008

hello

does anyone know how to append a string to an existing text field so i have a record and the value of this text field is say "abc" i run an update query which pulls the string "def" out of another table and then now the value is "abcdef"

I have tried the following sql

UPDATE TBL_TmpSubmission
LEFT JOIN TBL_PropertyType ON TBL_TmpSubmission.PropertyType = TBL_PropertyType.PropertyType SET TBL_TmpSubmission.ErrorCode = [TBL_TmpSubmission].[ErrorCode] & "property"
WHERE (((TBL_PropertyType.PropertyType) Is Null));

which I expected to append the string "property" to the field which already had the value "measure" but it just overwrites the string having the same effect as

UPDATE TBL_TmpSubmission
LEFT JOIN TBL_PropertyType ON TBL_TmpSubmission.PropertyType = TBL_PropertyType.PropertyType SET TBL_TmpSubmission.ErrorCode = "property"
WHERE (((TBL_PropertyType.PropertyType) Is Null));

i have a temporary table in my db which is checked for errors, that is to say there are three fields in a further lookup table and three of the fields in this temporary table TBL_TmpSubmission are checked for nonexistent property types, fuel types and measure types by queries with the structure given above

it all has the effect i need of filling in this error code field so the error types can be displayed using a later select query - except when there is say a measure error AND a property error because then one query just overwrites the effect of the other

what i want is to be able to use say letter codes "P", "F", "M", append them to one another and then in my later select display that code so the user can see all the fields which need to be corrected

Append A Record Using Vba Where There Is An Auto Number Field

Jan 5, 2006

Hi, basically what i want to do is append a record to a table using vba. I would like to take two values from my form (productID, supplierID) and insert them into a table (supplierProductsTBL) under the same headings. I've constructed an sql statement but am getting the following error:

runtime error '3346'

number of query values and destination fields are not the same'

I think this happens because the table also contains an autonumber field (supplierProductID) and i'm not referencing this in my sql statement (below):

mySQL = "INSERT INTO SupplierProductsTBL ( SupplierID, ProductID ) VALUES ('" & SupplierID & "'), ('" & ProductID & "')"

i wuld just get rid of the autonumber field but i need this.

Any help on this would be appreciated, cheers mark.

Append If Record Doesnt Exist, Else Update

Feb 19, 2008

I have a table that is filled based on selections that a user makes in combo boxes on a form. I am having trouble trying to figure out the best way to prevent duplicates from being inserted in the table when I do the append query part.

Since the table is filled based on the various selections the user makes I dont have a primary key or unique field.

Can someone help me figure out the best way to do this append/update queries to prevent duplicates. Also if you have a strategy for setting up some sort of unique or primary key for fields that could all be the same yet in the table only 1 record will show, no duplicates.

Modules & VBA :: Using Append Query After Entering New Record

Apr 5, 2015

The program I am working with has an option to add a new record to another table using a button. Not all the records, even new ones, need to be appended.

The append query works fine in all situations but one--when a new record is entered and saved, the append query button returns 0 records to be appended. However, if you go to a different record and come back to the one just added in the main table, the append query works fine. The query uses a TempVar to select only the record being seen at the time. The TempVar is declared prior to attempting to append the record to the other table.

Is there a way to make a just entered record act like its been around for a bit (well at least to save it by changing record to another and back)?

Queries :: Append Just Current Record Into A Table

Jul 17, 2014

I am trying to open a form with some records taken from one table, then alter couple of data in it and after that most importantly to append current records into a different table. The reason I need to append is that I need to keep track on every occurrence on same fields.

It looks like this:

SerialNumber(Field 1), ServiceDate(Field 2), ServiceEngineer(Field 3)

Now suppose same serial number called again and asked for service, I need to still keep record on how many times this same serial number had service.

But when I open the query with the link to the form that is open I cannot see the added record until it's saved to the open form. I tried to re-query the key ID field but that does not work. How do I do a re-query without the form requiring everything and then I am on the incorrect record?

Unique Identifier - Append Primary Key Record

Dec 9, 2014

I have a database in Excel that contains farmers who can be identified by a Unique identifier: MZ-01-0001. The registration details for these farmers are not always up to date. Now when I try to append the data for the farmer with MZ-01-0001; with the primary key set on the Unique identifier, Access does not want to do it since there is already a record in the system. When I remove the primary key it doubles the record, which is also not what I want. So I am wondering what I need to do to append the record while keeping the primary key intact.

Append Query Key Violation (as Used In Create Similar Record)

Oct 18, 2007

I have a database of Assessments, each record having multiple subforms.

I am working on a button, which creates a "similar" (same) assessment, copying over all the subform records/selections.

So, after I actually insert a new assessment, pasting all the values from the original Assessment:

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdCopy
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPasteAppend

I need to copy over subform contents, for which I use an Append Query (actually, I use its SQL in VBA code to pass it the right parameters).

Now, naturally, I ran into Key Violations, because taking 50 sub-records from the original they would have their own AutoNumber Keys (ID's) and I can't append them into the same table.

My question: how do I copy over the same records (appending FROM and TO the same table) but cause the table to insert AutoNumbers for the records being appended?

Thanks!

Add Single Record To A Table Using Append Query With One To Many Relationship

Nov 21, 2014

I have tables Account (PK acctnum) and Orders (linked via acctnum to Account). There are multiple orders per account that need to be billed individually. When creating an invoice I need to add the Account to the Invoice table and the Orders to the InvoiceDetail table. I use 2 queries to accomplish this. The first one though adds multiple records to the invoice table (because of the one to many relationship). I need to keep that so I don't bill anyone with no orders.

INSERT INTO Invoices ( InvoiceDate, AcctNum )
SELECT DISTINCT Date() AS InvoiceDate, Account.AcctNum
FROM Account INNER JOIN [Order] ON Account.AcctNum = Order.AcctNum
WHERE (((Order.OrderNum)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![OrderNum]) AND ((Account.BillingCycle)="on discharge") AND ((Order.EndDate) Is Not Null) AND ((Order.Closed)=Yes) AND ((Order.PatientName)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![PatientName]));

Is there any way to get it to only add one record? I've tried limiting it with several parameters to no avail.

Modules & VBA :: Loop - Append Query To Work Referring To Quantity Value For One Record

Jul 29, 2015

I have a part table summary with various quantities 1-1000 and want to create a new table where part number repeats with quantity of 1 corresponding back to the sum. If part 123456=20 then this would repeat 20 x and each record Qty=1

Start with summary
--================
Part Qty
111000 2
222000 3

End result all Qty=1
--================
Part Qty
111000 1
111000 1
222000 1
222000 1
222000 1
--================

I stared with a loop and was able to get an append query to work referring to the quantity value (3) for one record from tbl_temp to tbl_main, but not really sure how to advance through many records.

For n = 1 To [Forms]![MainScreen]![Text7]
DoCmd.OpenQuery "qry_Update_Qty"
'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Next n

maybe a do while or some other approach?

MS Access Can't Append All The Records In The Append Query

Feb 18, 2007

hi Guys,
I have been looking at different post and checking Microsoft help files as well, but still can't seem to fix this problem.

I am having 2 tables. The first table is connected to a form for viewing and entering data, and in the second table i am just copying 3-4 fields from the first table.

I am trying to use the insert statement to insert records in the second table, and everytime i click on the "Add" button to add the records i get the following error "MS access can't append all the records in the append query ... blah blah blah"

However if i close the form and reopen it, and goto the record (as it is saved in the first database) and now click on the add button to add the fields to the second table/database, it works.

What am i doing wrong???

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

How To Append Multiple Rows Using Append Qry?

Jan 2, 2008

I´m trying to improve my appl. but I´m stuck trying to figure out how to append multiple rows on a table using the Append query.

My problem comes since I have 4 tables with the following fields:
1) Orders
OrderID (number)
CustomerID (number)
Date (date)
etc...
2) OrderDetails
OrderDetailID (number)
OrderID (number)
ProductID (number)
QuantitySold
UnitPrice
etc...
3) TmpOrders
OrderTmpID (Autonumber)
CustomerID (number)
Date
etc...
4) TmpOrderDetails
OrderDetailTmpID (Autonumber)
OrderID (number)
ProductID
QuantitySold
etc...

The problem comes since the Tmp tables are used just to record temporarly the information before the transaction is completed.
Whe the salesman at the desk finish the sale, a command button is presseed and an append query runs to transfer the data from Tmp tables to the Definitive tables. Another query (Delete) is excuuted inmediately after the append qry. and it deletes the information recorded on Tmp tables.

I need to reset the autonumber or create a field that records the line number so I can add up to the Maximum OrderDetailID found on the definitive table, but the problem is how to create the "controlled" autonumber.

Please help.
