Auto Generated / Flexible Controls In A Form
Sep 20, 2006
Can controls in a form be made flexibly or auto-generated based on parameters set in another form?
Supposed I have a continuous form with 10 textboxes, while at some other time I need to have 12 textboxes or 5 textboxes only. Total textboxes needed would be set from another form. The maximum number of textboxes should be unlimited. Is it possible?
The backend table actually can be created flexibly using SQL based commands. And to link the fields to the textboxes is another problem.
Any clue?

I have the following code (below) that I use to allow the user to select a particular value to determine which records to delete. However, I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having the Microsoft Access auto-generated messages pop up.
For this particular case, after the user selects the value and hits the command button, then a msg box comes up verifying if the user wants to delete the records with selected value. Clicking 'Yes' will then generate the Access message that asks the user again if they want to delete the records and that these actions can not be undone. Clicking Yes here will delete the records.
However, clicking 'No' or x'ing off this Access generated message will then cause a Run-time error 2501. I want to handle this error if it all possible.
Code:
Private Sub CmdRemove_Click()
Dim strQuery As String
DoCmd.Beep
If vbYes = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to delete? Clicking 'Yes' will completely remove all prospects with the selected Class from the database", vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Delete prospects?") Then
strQuery = "DELETE * FROM [Prospects] " & "WHERE Prospects.Class = '" & Forms("Classpopup").cmbRemove & "';"
DoCmd.RunSQL strQuery
End If
End Sub

I am developing a DB that is composed of approximately 50 tables. The primary key in every table is automatically generated byAccess. I understand that the primary key for each record in the table has to be unique. My question is: Is the primary key uniqueness applicable across the entire DB?
For example, table A has a auto gen key #25 in it. Therefore, no key in table A can be #25. Now I make an entry in table B (A:B, is 1:many). Can the primary key in table B be #25? OR, once #25 is used and continues to exist, it cannot be used in *any* table?
I have made several small examples and the keys across all the tables are unique. I don't know if this is guranteed across all the db tables, or just in my particular case?
Thanks
John

I have a problem with formating controls in a form. As a example, I inserted a tree view control and adobe reader control. After I've resized them manually in a design form, I switch into form view and they both resize automatically to their own size (don't know where it gets from).
In the result, I can't obtain the required width and height. How can I make them resizable to my own preference?

I am trying to construct a system in access where I can have a user type in a part number, revision of a part, job number, serial number quantity, and generate a serial number based on the quantity that they need.
I am getting hung up on even how to construct the tables effectively to accomplish this, let alone the forms, queries, etc.
The numbers have to be in the following form. XXXX-XXXX
For an example:
I have part ABC and I need 5 serial numbers.
I need to be able to create a batch of serial numbers automagically that reads like:
9001-0001
9001-0002
9001-0003
9001-0004
9001-0005
Then for the next part XYZ I need 3 serial numbers. It would be constructed like this:
9002-0001
9002-0002
9002-0003
With the goal of eventually being able to search a part number and revision, or a job number and return all serial numbers assigned to that.
Is this possible in MS Access?

Have a table with data in it and I want to add a new field to uniquely identify each record (simple numerical sequence like 1, 2, 3, 4.....). I don't know VBA and don't know SQL.
Tried opening the table in design view, adding a new field with "autonumber" as the data type but get the following error msg: "File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry". The table has about 750,000 records in it.

I have a search function that returns a list of songs. This function searches by Artist, Title, Album and Genre of music. The search works fine enough. I took the results of this search and put them into a form, from which a user can select one of the songs that have been returned. I have built an append query that automatically tracks each selected item, but it is not working the way that I want it to. I have the append query set that on a double click it will put the records that are selected into two other tables to do the tracking, but instead of taking that individual record, it takes all of the records that are displayed in the result form. how can i have a flexible query that takes the songs that are selected as opposed to the entire list?

My part is up to "exports" (in orange), the rest of the location is entered by the user.
I do know that I can replace the path with an input box, but can I enter default text in the box.
Import Code Code: Original - Import Code Code DoCmd.TransferText acImportFixed, "import_data", "tbl_import_tables", "G:FinanceAccountingRoyalty2006exports2ND QTR 06MAY 06CAD.txt", False, "" DoCmd.TransferText acImportFixed, "import_data", "tbl_import_tables", "G:FinanceAccountingRoyalty2006exports2ND QTR 06MAY 06CAD.txt", False, ""

I provide a daily report to my warehouse team that pulls information from a data table for the previous day's activities. Since we don't work on the weekends, my statement needs to be manually modified on Mondays to pull the information from Friday and not from Sunday:
WHERE REF_Cal.Date = Date()-1
becomes
WHERE REF_Cal.Date = Date()-3
Is there a way that I can write the above statement so that it automatically looks at Friday's numbers [i.e. Date()-3] if today is Monday? In Excel I could write a formula to accomplish this as follows: IF(TEXT(TODAY(),"DDD")="MON",TODAY()-3,TODAY()-1)

how to make my form controls change size / position as my form is resized / loaded on a computer with a different resolution. Several of the tutorials out there suggest putting code on the "on resize" property of the form. When I looked at the Northwind database to try to mimic their code however, it looks like they must be doing something different as there is no on resize code under the form properties and I was unable to find the code they do use.

Hi guys,
please give me some directions.
Recently I designed a form with several controls including both TextBox and Combox. Before I submit data by clicking the button, I use VBA to validate the values of those controls (textbox and combox). If the value is not valid, the system will eject a msgbox and automatically set the focus on that component. In order to tidy the code, I use a GoTo statement, which refers to a group of code to display the message due to the value of parameters
But it seems VBA doesn't recongize the control I set through the parameter.
The code as the following:
private function validation () as boolean
Dim ErrorMessage as string
Dim ErrorComponent as String
......
ErrorMessage="Please select the shop Name"
ErrorComponent="ShopName" // ShopNameis a combox
GoTo ExitFunction
.....
......
ErrorMessage="Please set the start date"
ErrorComponent="StartDate" // StartDate is a Textbox
GoTo ExitFunction
.....
ExitFunction:
msgResult = MsgBox(ErrorMessage, vbOKOnly, "Error Message")
Me(ErrorComponent).SetFocus
validation = False
Exit Function
=============
As I tested for seveal time, I'm sure there is something wrong with
"
msgResult = MsgBox(ErrorMessage, vbOKOnly, "Error Message")
Me(ErrorComponent).SetFocus
"
but how can I fix it?
Many Thanks

I am new to Access and have not used VBA.
I have searched the forum on this, but I can't find an example of this problem.
I have a data entry form with a two-page tab control. One is for company info and the other for contact info. The recordsource is a query based on the two tables. Initially I had the page set up as a rather large form with a subform and decided to convert to the cleaner looking tab control (I used copy and paste to transfer the controls).
This form worked initially, but now I have changed some setting so that it doesn't work anymore: I can enter data properly on the first tab, but not on the second.
I have tried changing the various form properties but I must be missing something obvious. All my tab-less forms work the way I expect them to.
What I don't understand is why one tab works and not the other.

How do you hide the canned record scrolling keys on the bottom of a Form? I have placed my own controls and do not need them to confuse the Operator, or cause problems.

I tried renaming the form already. it didnt work :confused:
I tried to create a new database (i copied all the tables, queries and forms into the new database). it didnt work.

I have few forms that look fine when in Design view, but which appear as plain grey screens when opened in Form view. These were working perfectly (i.e. visible in both views) until about half an hour ago.
The only things I have changed are some of the calculations behind certain fields.
Any thoughts?

I have a number of list boxes that dont show up in the VBEditor under the form name.
To be more specific, these controls do not show up in the drop-down list on top of the code window. If I try to assign an event procedure through 'code builder' to these controls, they refer back to a pre-existing module instead of the form under "Access Class Objects".
I have tried repairing and compacting the database to no avail. Can someone guide me? Please ask for more info if you would like some.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have a rather simplistic problem that I can't find a solution to! I have a
form that I want to maximize every time it opens (which I have achieved
through DoCmd.Maximize in the Form_Load event), but I also want that all the
controls in the form, staying positioned relative to each other, center
themselves horizontally on the form once it is resized. Maybe I can set a
property that always makes them stay in the horizontal center, which is also
great. How could I accomplish this?
Thank you!

Hey all, I am wondering if there is a way to copy and past a control from a FORM to a REPORT? I have an activex control for my digital signatures and for some reason the value is not showing up on my report, I have tryed several different ways and I was wondering if there was a way to copy the activex control and on the open of the report the value what was copyed would appear on the report. can this be done?
I believe that somehow the value is not staying in the field provided and just going directly to the table therefore I cant see it on the report. Is this possible? Thanks in advance
