Autofilling Textboxes With Table Data Based On A Combobox.
Nov 17, 2006
I am creating an Access program for logging in Parcels that are delivered and I am having some problems.
I have a Table called 'Contacts' and within this there are 4 Columns: 'Names', 'Departments', 'Extensions' and 'Emails'.
I also have a Form and there is 1 Combobox and 3 Textboxes relating to this Table: 'Addressed To', 'Department', 'Ext Number' & 'Email'. (see http://c0ld.homeip.net/parcel_log.jpg for details).
What I would like to do is select the Name from the Combobox (Addressed To) and the have the other Textboxes (Department, Ext Number & Email) get auto-filled with the corresponding data that’s within the Table for that Name.
If anyone would like the .mdb for this, please PM me.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I want to know a way of populating unbound textboxes with data from a table without using the easy assigning data in the property of the box. I want it to be all done with code, which to me isnt a huge deal but I've yet to find answers on the web pertaining to this issue.
for example:
Say i was searching a primary key in one box and based on what ever is typed in i'd like it to populate the rest of the textboxes.

I'm VERY new to MS Access 2010 - in fact, I used some online youtube videos to get me started with the database I'm currently working on.
Here's what I have so far: 2 tables, one for customer information (name, phone, addy, etc) and one for invoices (inv #, customer ID (which should be the same as my primary key from the customer info table), phone, services rendered, etc etc)
I'm currently working on a form for Invoices, where I can simply put in the customer's name, date, cost, etc without having to look up the ID# and phone number for every time I use it.

I'm building a new db for tracking tests/results, using Access 2007.
On this issue, I'm working with 2 tables, Sample and Equipment.
On a form to enter sample info, I have a combo box to select a piece of equipment.
When the equipment is selected, I need to have a sub-form populate with several fields of data from the equipment table, based on the equipment selected.
I'm not trying to save the equipment data again, I just need to display it, based on the equipment the user selects. This is just a kind of second check to remind the user what the equipment he's selected will do.

How to get my query to run from criteria based on a combobox from another table. I have a field "prac" that has entries such as JF, MG, PM, RJ etc.
My query has the criteria for prac as [Forms]![PracReportPrint]![PracChoice].
PracChoice is the name of the combobox.
If I specify a valuelist for the combobox the query works. I created a different table just for a list of practitioners that contains only an index key and practitioners (JF, MG, PM, RJ, and so forth). When I set the combobox to table/query and select practitioners from my other table I get the correct list,b ut the query doesn't seem to detect what is selected from the combobox.

My database is centered on a main form where users select pieces of information from ComboBoxes (primarily) and submit.
The first part of the form, they must choose from a list of our clients, which is a table with with roughly 5000 rows.
Later on in the form, they must choose a contact person from that client. While Client's may have several contact names (which need to be stored in a table), only one name is necessary for the form portion.
How can I make this Contact Person ComboBox only load names attached to the specific Client selected above?
As it stands right now, the Client List has its own table (along with additional information), and Contact Name is a separate Table with a look up field of Client List.

I have a Table with 57 fields. I would like to display this table in a form as a subform, but only certain fields depending on what selection is made in a combo box.
For instance, if the user selects "Missing Information" in the Combo Box, then the form will show a few standard fields such as ID, Market, Sales Manager, and then some specific ones such as date missing information requested and date missing information received.
If the user selects another option, again the standard fields will remain plus a few different ones.
I have done much searching on this and feel like I am so close but so far. I have looked into controlling the record source of the subform, columhidden =false and a multitude of others. All of which may or in fact probably do work in this situation but I can't seem to put it all together.

I have a combox with the following query in its RowSource: SELECT [Error Codes].[ID], [Error Codes].[ErrorCode], [Error Codes].[Active] FROM [Error Codes] ORDER BY [Error Codes].[ErrorCode];
I now need to change the query's Rowsource via code and so far I have figured out that this works:
Code : Forms![frmAcceptReturn].Form.cmbErrorCodes.RowSource = "Select ID, ErrorCode FROM [Error Codes Missing]"
However, the table "Error Codes Missing" also has a field called "Active" which I need to take into account; If the error code is not active then it should not show up in the combobox.
I know how to do that in the original RowSource, but how do I do it with code?

I have a table (ComponentT) of different device components a user can select from ( generators, gearboxes, etc.)
The table has 3 fields - ComponentName, ComponentType, ComponenentDetails
I have a query returning all the ComponentDetails values.
I then have a combobox that uses this query as a row source.
The user can select different components they want from the combobox. Once something is selected, it is added to a new table - UserSelectedComponentsT
As a device can have only one gearbox or one generator etc. I want a warning messagebox to be displayed if the user tries to select a generator from the combobox when one has been previously selected.

Hi all,
Is there any way of enabling/disabling a number of text boxes/checkboxes, based on a combo box selection, for example:
Combo Box 1: Airport Selection
Combo Box 2: Customer Selection
Once the user has selected the customer, based on the airport selection there will be about 10 text boxes and a few checkboxes that I'd like to allow or "ghost" depending on whether we are contracted to carry out work for that customer.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks, Graeme

Hello all,
Do you have a code that would open a saved file based on the contents of 2 textboxes on my form.
The saved files would be in:
C:Documents and Settings100310257Desktop
I have a button on the form, but need a code that would pull up the savedfile using the name in textbox1 and the name in textbox2, like this:
textbox1-textbox2. e.g. textbox1 = Novo Group. textbox2 = AA
There is a saved file in the path above, Novo Group-AA
Thanks for helping!

I have a form with 2 option buttons on it one with year 12 on it and one with year 13. I have a simple form with drop down menus and text boxes allocated for year 12s and 13s. I want all of the year 13 text boxes and drop down lists to be locked if year 12 is selected and I want all of the year 12 text boxes and drop down lists to be locked if year 13 is selected. I do not want to over complicate the form by hiding parts of it or having a new form open depending on the option button selected.

I am having difficulty getting a second textbox to display the correct total of hours based on a date entered into a first textbox.
Setup:
Table Name: TestTable1
Fields: 'RequestDate' & 'Hours'
Form: 'Form1'
2 Textboxes Unbound: Named 'Date' & 'Total'
What I am trying to accomplish:
Based upon a date entered into the "Date" textbox I want the "Total" textbox to display the total hours associated with that date.
What I have tried:
I have tried using, in the control source property of the "Total" textbox, many iterations of both Sum(IIF & DSum(
I am currently using the following:
=DSum("[Hours]","TestTable1","[RequestDate]='Forms! Form1!'Me.Date'")
I have tried this without the Forms designation; without the "Me" designation; Etc.
Some attempts return the Error or Name error while other efforts return a blank textbox...

I have 2 comboboxes, the first one is called "activity", whereby I have 3 options to choose from, and the second is called "level".
When I click an "activity", for example Drawings, I want the "level" combobox to list a unique set of options for that category. and if I click on a different "activity" for example Planning, I want the "level" combobox to show a completely different set of options.
If anyone can give me any help on how to do this then I would be very grateful!!
Thanks

I setup a combo box where I specify the data to be pulled from a table. The table just contains the primary key (id) and a name, which is what I want loaded in the combobox pulldown.
When I run the form, the names appear but when I select, the id is written to the table instead of the name.
What settings am I missing and why is it taking the id instead of the name ?

I have a client table with a field called location. On a reports form that I have, I want to make a combobox for all of the locations, so it could show all the clients from a particular location and also it would reduce the errors due to someone spelling a place name wrong. I could set the source to the location field in the table, but that would show them all in the order they come out and there would be duplicates.
Any help would be cool. Cheers

I've tried searching the forums and haven't found quite what i'm looking for. I would like to be able to change the source for a combobox based on another combobox. The simplest way i can summarize that is i want to be able to choose A or B, depending on my choice i want another combobox to display all the values that A or B can have.
Thanks
Jim
I'm not sure I worded that very well. :(

Right now I have a subform with a combobox that pulls it's data from a table. I want the user to either select an existing item or type in a new item and have a macro create the new table row. What I have right now works in the sense that it prompts the user if they want to creat a new item and the new item is created (and I can see it in the combobox list), but I'm still getting an error saying that the item does not exist in the table forcing the user to manually select the newly created list item they just typed in.
Code:
Private Sub MaterialCostCode_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer)
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
'Update value list with user input.
On Error GoTo ErrHandler
Dim bytUpdate As Byte
[Code] ....
It appears that the new item doesn't always show up automatically and requires the form to be refreshed, so now I need to figure out how to get it to consistently appear right away without a refresh.

Dear All:
I have created a form where data is entered. I wish to place a command button on the form and when it is pressed, it deletes data in specified textboxes. The texboxes are: LAST_NAME, FIRST_NAME, MIDDLE_NAME.
I assume this is done using vb, but I am clueless.
Any help is most welcome.

There are hyperlinks throughout the database as well as a few lines of code that reference network locations that could change 1-2 years down the line. What I need to do is build a "housekeeping" form that is password protected where users can edit those hyperlinks via text-boxes. My problem is I'm not sure where to store the the data from the text-boxes to make it persistent. Making a table for the hyperlinks seems to be the wrong approach but I could be wrong.
Example:
Form1-Button1="String1"
String1="HousekeepingForm-TextBox1"
HousekeepingForm-TextBox1="X:Stuff"

Hi there!
It's been almost 10 years since I've done any work with databases, so I'm really REALLY rusty and I barely remember how to do anything. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a question I have in making a form.
I have 2 tables. The first table has a list of names and ID's. There exist some duplicate names, as some people are associated with more than one ID.
And there are two fields to the ID. One is Called the Client Code, and the other is the Client Division.
So the 1st table, in datasheet view, is basically:
# | Last Name | First Name | Client Code | Client Division
The second table is a list of addresses based on Client Code and Client Division:
# | Client Code | Client Division | Address 1 | Address 2 | Etc
----
What I'm trying to do is the following:
I'm trying to create a form such that as I'm typing in a last name, it does autolookup and auto filling. I may have multiple people with the Last name of Smith, so then it dynamically creates a dropdown box with all possible unique first names associated with the last name Smith. And after I choose/type in the first name, I get to two more dynamically created drop-down boxes that list all possible Client Codes and Client Divisions associated with this name. After choosing that, I figure it's a simple autolookup to populate the address fields.
Does anyone have any insight on how I can get this done? Another piece of functionality that I'm trying to work into this is that if the name doesn't exist or if there's a new Client Code and Client Division or a new address, the data gets automatically added to the respective tables.
Does anything of what I wrote make any sense?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Imants
