Autofilling Value Which Is NOT Autonumber
Jul 21, 2005
I have a table that keeps putting a zero value in the new recordl. It was previously an autonumber field. I changed that and deleted the zero from the default value property.
How do i get rid of this???

Hi there!
It's been almost 10 years since I've done any work with databases, so I'm really REALLY rusty and I barely remember how to do anything. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a question I have in making a form.
I have 2 tables. The first table has a list of names and ID's. There exist some duplicate names, as some people are associated with more than one ID.
And there are two fields to the ID. One is Called the Client Code, and the other is the Client Division.
So the 1st table, in datasheet view, is basically:
# | Last Name | First Name | Client Code | Client Division
The second table is a list of addresses based on Client Code and Client Division:
# | Client Code | Client Division | Address 1 | Address 2 | Etc
----
What I'm trying to do is the following:
I'm trying to create a form such that as I'm typing in a last name, it does autolookup and auto filling. I may have multiple people with the Last name of Smith, so then it dynamically creates a dropdown box with all possible unique first names associated with the last name Smith. And after I choose/type in the first name, I get to two more dynamically created drop-down boxes that list all possible Client Codes and Client Divisions associated with this name. After choosing that, I figure it's a simple autolookup to populate the address fields.
Does anyone have any insight on how I can get this done? Another piece of functionality that I'm trying to work into this is that if the name doesn't exist or if there's a new Client Code and Client Division or a new address, the data gets automatically added to the respective tables.
Does anything of what I wrote make any sense?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Imants

I am sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I couldn't seem to find a thread.
I have a form, which contains a subform. When in the subform, I have a button to create a new main form and I want it to prefill in the data from some fields on the subform.
It looks like it should work, but #1, when I am in the main form inside the subform, the botton does nothing. If I open only the subform, then it at least works.
And #2, it definitely captures the values that I want, but it doesn't fill them in on the form.
Here is my code:
Private Sub Command44_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command44_Click
Dim doc As String
Static tit As String
Static desc As String
doc = "Business Requirement Document"
title = IssueType
desc = Issue
DoCmd.OpenForm doc, acNormal, , , acFormAdd
BRD_Title = title
BRD_Description = desc
Exit_Command44_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command44_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command44_Click
End Sub
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!

Hi all, and apologies for starting a fresh thread about this, but I can't find exactly what I'm trying to achieve via the search function, although I'm hoping it's just something simple I'm missing.
I have a small database that allows the user to click on a button to go an Add New Records form, which they then fill out. At the moment, the record number gets autofilled and they start entering details. However, one of the details they must enter is a unique record number, consisting of the month, the year, and a number between 01 and 99 (so the first new record created today, for example, would be record 090601, the second 090602, etc. The first next month would be 100601, and so on).
At the moment, I have to rely on people to manually enter this number, which requires them to view the current records first to ascertain whether there have been any previous records created that day (to prevent duplications).
What I'd really like is to have the this records box autofill when entering the form with the current month, current year, and then the number of the record for that day. However, it should automatically look at the last record created, and, if there's a match on the month and year, add one to the last 2 digits to ensure a new, unique record. So, for example, I have three records this month, listed as numbers 090601, 090602, and 090603 respectively. I go to create a new record, the box should autofill with the number 090604 and create a new record accordingly.
How do I acheive this?

I'm VERY new to MS Access 2010 - in fact, I used some online youtube videos to get me started with the database I'm currently working on.
Here's what I have so far: 2 tables, one for customer information (name, phone, addy, etc) and one for invoices (inv #, customer ID (which should be the same as my primary key from the customer info table), phone, services rendered, etc etc)
I'm currently working on a form for Invoices, where I can simply put in the customer's name, date, cost, etc without having to look up the ID# and phone number for every time I use it.

I am creating an Access program for logging in Parcels that are delivered and I am having some problems.
I have a Table called 'Contacts' and within this there are 4 Columns: 'Names', 'Departments', 'Extensions' and 'Emails'.
I also have a Form and there is 1 Combobox and 3 Textboxes relating to this Table: 'Addressed To', 'Department', 'Ext Number' & 'Email'. (see http://c0ld.homeip.net/parcel_log.jpg for details).
What I would like to do is select the Name from the Combobox (Addressed To) and the have the other Textboxes (Department, Ext Number & Email) get auto-filled with the corresponding data that’s within the Table for that Name.
If anyone would like the .mdb for this, please PM me.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have two tables linked to each other in one to many relationship. Instead of auto number, the date and shift (Text) is being used as the primary keys (Composite Primary Key). Here is the tables structures,
Payouts Table:
Date: Primary Key
Shift (Day or Night) : Primary Key
Bills Table:
Date: Primary Key
Shift (Day or Night): Primary Key
Autonumber: Primary Key
The tables Payouts and Bills has one to many relationship. One payout row can have many bills. The problem is that I want to start the Autonumber in bills table everyday from 1. As date and shift are different for every day so even if i start bills from 1 everyday, it wont make same primary key. I can do it manually but I want to make it automatically.

Hello,
I have a question. I would like to be able to have an autonumber in the main form be applied to text boxes on the subform. So If I enter a name in the main form, an autonumber is generated, then that number is automatically entered into the boxes in my subform. My subform is a datasheet view with many records. I want all the records to have the autonumber generated in the main form. Is there a way to do this. Currently I have the boxes in the subform retrieve the autonumber by setting it equal to the autonumber text box on the main form. I would think that there would be an easier way to accomplish this seemingly simple task.
Thanks,
Adam

hello,
I am using SQL INSERT INTO where I insert values from my form Me!value1 etc
I have an autonumber in the table where I am using INSERT INTO, and when I exclude the autonumber it says that the number of columns does not match. I tried assigning a number manually in SQL and it works fine, but I can't use autonumber anymore. Is there a way to use autonumber and still do INSERT INTO or is there a way I can find the highest number and put the next highest in there through VBA?
Thanks in advance

In the main table of my d/base (just testing) - when a new record is entered using a form, the Autonumber Key ID becomes 5E+08.
Whats that imply ? There are some One-To-Many sub tables running off the main table, but I can't see how they could cause a problem.

Hello everybody,
I have a problem which I couldn't solve.
I have two tables. There're relationships is one to many (1:N).
The first one is Order and the other one is OrderItems.
Order(order_ID,...) and OrderItems(order_ID, lineitem,...).
The compound key of the relation OrderItems is order_ID and lineitem). What I exactly want? I want for every new Order_ID to have restarting count of lineitem.
example:
Order_ID, LineItem
1 1
1 2
1 3
Order_ID, LineItem
2 1
2 2
2 3
Thanks in advance.

I have a fairly small database I recently built that includes a particular table in which I meant for the primary key to be an Autonumber field. Apparently I forgot to set it this way and it currently sits as just a Number field. There are nine tables in this database with a couple hundred records in the main tables.
Is it possible to change this field to an Autonumber at this point? I have attempted to change it and it wants me to remove all the relationships. It also seems to be necessary to copy all the records out before reseting and then copy them all back in or it will not let me proceed.
Will doing it this way work? Is there a better way to do it? Please advise. Thanks.

Apologies if this has been asked before:
I have a small table in access 2003 with autonumbers. I managed to delete two records by mistake (autonumbers 23 & 24).
Is there any way to add them back in?? It is important as these numbers have been specific to those records for a couple of years.
Thanks in advance!

Good Morning,
Is it possible to have an autonumber field start at a given number, say 9999999 and count backwards?
I have a program that is generating badge ID numbers but I have a bunch that already exist and going backwards seems like the easiest way to mesh the 2.

The record I was using as a key changed from an incremental to a random number. When I try to change it it won't allow me. I created a new project and imported the tables from the old one but all the attributes followed.
Short of starting from scratch, what can I do to change back to incremental autonumbering.

I am creating a database for my company to register projects. And each project needs to have a unique Project ID number, which (due to the conformity of another software tool) must be 4 characters long. The first character is a specific letter based on the group the project is created by, followed by a 3 digit number. So, for example, one of the group code letters is C, so the first "C Project" would have the ID 'C001'.
I want my database to assign these automatically after selecting the group.
Any ideas?

I have an access database that I have used autonumber to assign order numbers for several years. I am now wanting to split the database and it is causing a problem with the order numbers. My situation is different than other posts because I delete orders from the table when I assign serial numbers, but I still do not want to use that order number.
Example:
Enter order number 1000
Enter order number 1001
Assign a serial number to Order 1001 and delete that record.
Enter a new order, need order number to be 1002
Because I delete 1001 but still do not want to use 1001, I can't use any max number function that I've seen in some other posts.
Could I make a table to somehow keep track of the next order number. I am not very knowledgeable about access so please bear with me.
