I apologize if this has already been covered, but I could not find an answer.
I have a form that assigns a quote number (autonumber) and for somereason everytime you enter a new record it enters two. So for every data record there is one empty record.
i.e.
2473 - blank
2474 - has data
2475 - blank
2476 - has data

When I click on my subform after entering some data in the primary form, I get this error message:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine can't find a record in the table <name> with key matching field(s) <name>. (Error 3101)"
This is because I have not filled in a ItemCode, a combobox, on the parent form and ItemCode is part of a one-to-many relationship that involves automatic filling in of other fields such as ItemDesc, UnitPrice, etc. How do I code the validation that handles such an error?

I am trying to run a pass-through query in access with a variable that a user enters in a form. I can't seem to get this to work. Can somebody please help? The variable should be where the 121212 is in the code.

I have a table with Invoice Value, and Commission Value in it. On the associated form I enter the Invoice Value, and also the Commisison value [which 99% of the time is set at 20%.
I am trying to make a button which, when pressed, enters the calculated commission in the form field (and underlying table) - I realise this could be in the 'On Click' property on the form, but in VBA I am after something like.

Could someone help me with the syntax? (I can then move on to using a variable, rather than hard-wiring the 20% ;-)

I'm very new to access so I'm not sure about the correct way to go about this. I have a table with a 'category' column, a form which hides the category column, and a combobox to filter the category, let's say R, C, and F.
What I want accomplish is to have the value of the comobox applied to the hidden 'category' column when a user enters a new record into the form.
Is there I way I can get an instance to the record as it's being entered and modify the data using VB? Or would I have to write a sort of pop() function and have it run afterInsert and then modify it that way? Can I even alter the table using VB like this?

if i delete all the records on the table and clean it all out
the next new autonumber will be 1003...
i want it to be 1001 again...
and yes its set to an index of no dups

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got a table, where each record is a group of students. So the fields include Student1, Student2, Student3, etc. I know this is bad database design, but I've done this because I want the group number (primary key) to be automatically generated.
Now, I want to add more information for each of these students as if they're seperate records but I also want an autonumber for the group.
I have a database in which the year is stored in a table called year with as laid out below
"YearID" autonumber field and the
"Year" field which is a date field.
I am trying to search for records via a query for just the current year, i.e. the highest autonumber and I am having no success.

Currently the form is operational, but there is one last thing that would be nice to have.
The table is "Updated Headcount" which contains "EMP_ID" which are unique numbers stored as text.
In the event a new employee is entered in the system by another user on this site we would like to prevent any duplicate "EMPID"s from being entered and saved on the SharePoint, we would also like to alert the user and prevent the data from being saved.
All data is currently bound, so once the user makes a change it is made, no submit button is required.
We are running into some difficulties in doing a dlookup from the value entered and comparing to a column in the table.
TABLE - UPDATED HEADCOUNT
COLUMN in UPDATED HEADCOUNT - EMPID
FORM CELL user will input an EMPID - newEMPID
FORM CELL used for a dlookup to compare what user has entered to what is already in the table - duplicateEMPID
So below is what we are trying to do, we are sure there are a few commands missing....

I have two tables linked to each other in one to many relationship. Instead of auto number, the date and shift (Text) is being used as the primary keys (Composite Primary Key). Here is the tables structures,
Payouts Table:
Date: Primary Key
Shift (Day or Night) : Primary Key
Bills Table:
Date: Primary Key
Shift (Day or Night): Primary Key
Autonumber: Primary Key
The tables Payouts and Bills has one to many relationship. One payout row can have many bills. The problem is that I want to start the Autonumber in bills table everyday from 1. As date and shift are different for every day so even if i start bills from 1 everyday, it wont make same primary key. I can do it manually but I want to make it automatically.

I have a question. I would like to be able to have an autonumber in the main form be applied to text boxes on the subform. So If I enter a name in the main form, an autonumber is generated, then that number is automatically entered into the boxes in my subform. My subform is a datasheet view with many records. I want all the records to have the autonumber generated in the main form. Is there a way to do this. Currently I have the boxes in the subform retrieve the autonumber by setting it equal to the autonumber text box on the main form. I would think that there would be an easier way to accomplish this seemingly simple task.

I am using SQL INSERT INTO where I insert values from my form Me!value1 etc
I have an autonumber in the table where I am using INSERT INTO, and when I exclude the autonumber it says that the number of columns does not match. I tried assigning a number manually in SQL and it works fine, but I can't use autonumber anymore. Is there a way to use autonumber and still do INSERT INTO or is there a way I can find the highest number and put the next highest in there through VBA?

In the main table of my d/base (just testing) - when a new record is entered using a form, the Autonumber Key ID becomes 5E+08.
Whats that imply ? There are some One-To-Many sub tables running off the main table, but I can't see how they could cause a problem.

I have a problem which I couldn't solve.
I have two tables. There're relationships is one to many (1:N).
The first one is Order and the other one is OrderItems.
Order(order_ID,...) and OrderItems(order_ID, lineitem,...).
The compound key of the relation OrderItems is order_ID and lineitem). What I exactly want? I want for every new Order_ID to have restarting count of lineitem.
example:
Order_ID, LineItem
1 1
1 2
1 3
Order_ID, LineItem
2 1
2 2
2 3

I have a fairly small database I recently built that includes a particular table in which I meant for the primary key to be an Autonumber field. Apparently I forgot to set it this way and it currently sits as just a Number field. There are nine tables in this database with a couple hundred records in the main tables.
Is it possible to change this field to an Autonumber at this point? I have attempted to change it and it wants me to remove all the relationships. It also seems to be necessary to copy all the records out before reseting and then copy them all back in or it will not let me proceed.
Will doing it this way work? Is there a better way to do it? Please advise. Thanks.

I have a small table in access 2003 with autonumbers. I managed to delete two records by mistake (autonumbers 23 & 24).
Is there any way to add them back in?? It is important as these numbers have been specific to those records for a couple of years.
