Be Able To View Multiple Tables In One Form Without Using Wizard !HELP!
Jul 14, 2005
Hello, New to the board. I need your help/advice.
I have a: Movie Form. Table Actor and Table Director in my database.
on my Movie Form I have a combo box, where users can click on any movie on the list and display both Actors and Director information according to the Movie Title they select.
To accomplish this I use Subform/Subreport Wizard to add each Table to the Movie Form. Because When I try to bound the Specific Data to a textbox I use, the Field List is EMPTY.
My question is how can I make my Movie Form have acouple TEXTBOX's that change accordingly to the Combobox without having to use the Subform Wizard to import the info from my 2 tables.
I hope this make some sense, im just learning. Any help would be appreciated.
I am trying to trap the database error "View cannot be updated because modification affects multiple base tables" in the Form OnError event to display a user-friendly message instead of the above. The above can happen in the scenario of inserting/updating several fields of different tables at one time, likewise what I am facing now is the scenario of the user copying an entire record and pasting it.
I tried Case 4405 MsgBox "Can not update the record. it is related to base tables" Response = acDataErrContinue
But it doesn't work. How can I know the case number and solve all the scenarios of multiple insert/update attempts? Also, are there any better solution than this? I first tried to detach the SQL statements out of the views and make it one select statement so that I can normally multiple update/insert(as this problem happens with views only) but since CTE is not supported in Access , I failed to do so.
I am using the following code to check for duplicate tickets when importing multiple records into a datasheet view form by using the paste append function.
Code: Private Sub Ticket_Number_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) DoCmd.SetWarnings False If DLookup("Ticket_Number", "Record_Store", "Ticket_Number= '" & Me.Ticket_Number.Value & "'") > 0 Then Cancel = True MsgBox "There were import errors, please open View Import Errors above." End If End Sub
The form is used to insert multiple records into the database at a single time.
That codes works to check for duplicates. And if there are none there are no popup messages.
If there are duplicates though it gives a popup for every single Ticket_Number that is a duplicate.
I am wondering if there is a way for it to give only a single popup once it completes checking all the records to be imported for duplicates.
I would like my table to show the result of a calculations (or a formula). I surmise that you can not have a column cell calculate data, however if I can do this in the Form View and on a Report - can it just SHOW on the Table so I do not have to keep switching back and forth to see the information.
I am new to Access and think the forum will be a big help to me. Thanks
I am trying to create a lookup wizard to record the number of people who attend a regular event. I have a table recording the names, surnames and DOB of registered members and a number of other tables for regular events we hold. Previously people have been manually adding the names of attendees and of course there have been inconsistencies in the data. I want them to look up the names from the table of registered members. I have been using the lookup wizard, but it is only displaying the first name in a string. I need it to display id, first name, surname and DOB in a table. I also want to be able to type in the first letter and then pick from the list.
I'm trying to create a field with the lookup wizard, however it's a bit more complicated. I need the field to have multiple choices(3) and when a specific option is selected I need some additional choices to appear. For example: Question - have you ever used a specific product. Options: a-yes, b -no, c-other. If option b is selected then thats it, but if option a is selected I need a few other options to appear: was the brand Option1 or Option2? Also did you use it before(option1) or after(option2) smth.
I've designed a database at work to collate information about locations around the world that are contaminated by conflict and military activities. I'm struggling with the use of the lookup wizard to populate some fields in one table from another table. The database is ultimately meant to be used to identify contaminated sites in various countries and also to be a source of data for an online interactive map. As such, it needs to hold a fair amount of information. I figured that it would be normal that some fields and tables would be connected to one another. So, for example:
Country table is looked up by the conflict table to provide the names of countries participating in a conflict. To do so I used the lookup wizard. Similarly, the Site information table is looked up by the Site contamination event table to provide the names of contaminated sites. The Site contamination event table. Then the Site assessment table looks up the Site contamination event table to provide the name of contaminated sites. The relationship between these three table is intended so that at any given site multiple instances of contamination and their subsequent assessment can be recorded. This is where I started noticing problems. When I tried to input some fields into the Site assessment table, specifically the 'Site name', it would only display the primary and foreign keys in the drop down menu but not the 'Site name'.
- Have I messed up by relying on the lookup wizard in my table design? This seems to be the consensus in this and most forums (I checked another thread in the 'Tables' forum here). That said, I've seen some people making a distinction between using 'Lookup tables' and 'Lookup fields within a table', but given my relative newbyness I'm struggling to see the difference!
- If the answer is yes then what approach should I take to achieve the same aim (having multiple tables that feed information to one another). Initial research seems to suggest putting lookup/combo boxes in my forms. I'm dabbling with that at the minute but so far the results haven't been as desired.
I've attached a zip file with a screenshot of my relationships diagram to give an extra idea. Note that the relationship between the 'Site assessment' table and 'Site contamination event' table isn't showing up as I removed while trying to troubleshoot, but it is supposed to be one-to-many from 'Site contamination event' to 'Site assessment'.
After reading many of the posts here, I decided that one of the problems with the tables in the db I was working on was in the primary keys. I had used the same field name as the primary key in all of my tables. This was RecipID, which was a user entered textbox with an example in a label beside it showing the format to use.
After reading stuff here, I decided this wasn't a good idea. So I changed RecipId to be an autonumber in the parent table (Household_Info) and a long integer foreign key in the children. Also, I added some fields to the parent table to identify the head of household (lastname, firstname)
I already had a continuous form made with a subform and a pop-up form associated with it based on my previous tables. Reran the query underlying the form, and the new fields showed up in the field list box for the form. The fields are all still present in design view, but I get a totally blank form in form view. I checked the forms recordsource and made sure that it was set to the new query.
Can anyone give me an idea about what I'm overlooking? Do I have to recreate the form?
(Sorry if this is a repeat of a question someone has already addressed, but I couldn't turn up any relevant threads after several hours of searching.)
I have a Form which I have linked correctly to a subform. The Text boxes are showing in the Design view but are not when one switches to the Form View. Labels for Fields are visible in the Form View. Have even created a new subform and that will also not display the Text Boxes.
Why the ability to view the properties of an object within a form is not available when you double click on it in design view?
I was happily working away double clicking on a command button to edit some code when for some reason the next time I tried to edit it did not open up for me.
I was unable to access it even by right clicking on the object & selecting properties as that also appears to be disabled, not greyed out or anything but just does nothing when selected.
Have I inadvertently changed a setting somewhere that prevents the properties from being displayed?
I have seen that in some sample db's rightclicking the mouse showed the menu with an option to check or uncheck the dataview option, unchecked the formview was applied, but when i 'just' import the subform, i cannot find somewhere the possibility to change from dataview to formview.
Maybe someone can help me with this, probably very simple(?), question?
I have 4 tables and around 440 records but can only view up to 417 in the form I have designed. I have been adding new records via form and it has been added to my main table, but when i try to view it in form view - the record is not available to view. What do I need to do to correct this problem?
I have checked that there are no filters, data entry is set to No, Auto deletions, additions and edits are set to yes.
Also to mention it seems that the problem has arisen since I set up some new queries, there is a one to one relationship between the tables!
I have a form which is opened with a filter from another form. For some reason it views the form in form view, although it was set up as datasheet view. I even went to the form properties and the default was datasheet and i made it not to allow other views. This still didnt solve it. I want it to be in datasheet view because i want to show multiple records at the same time.
If u kno how i could resolve this please offer ur help
I am trying to create a user form with sub form using the form wizard. I have only 2 tables, Employee (main table) and Vacation (subform table). I pick the fields from Employee Table then fields fro Vacation, but the wizard treat the Vacation as main form and Employee as sub form.
Hello, I have just started on Access: creating 2 tables with primary keys and one-to-many relationships, and 2 simple queries. I want to create a form but can never complete the wizard or auto-form or else because it crashes with the pop-up message "object variable or with block variable not set" ? what does this mean? thanks for your help.
I have 6 tables that have 1 to many relationships. I would like to have all 6 tables on 1 form for data entry. When I use the “Form wizard” and select the tables it wants to group the last 3 tables in 1 subform and it won’t let me add records to the last 2 tables. Same thing happens when I create a query and run the form wizard selecting the query.
I know I’m doing something wrong but I can’t see it……….
Thanks Paul
Here's an add on question:
When the form wizard adds a subform to a subform the link child and master are filled out and the form updates. But when I add another subform and set the links it will not update. Example: form Book has text fiels and 2 sub forms "Chapter" and "Section" subform section child link is ChapterID, master link is [Chapter Subform].Form![ChapterID] --- This updates as expected.
I create a new subform "para" based on a table and set the Child link as SectID, master link [SectionID].Form![Section Subform].Form![SectionID] --- Will not update the subform "para" when the next record in subform "section" is selected.
I think I have created the relationship fairly well. Most of them one-to-many.
I created the form but now I whenever person is making entry I want the information from one form to go into multiples tables. What's the best to go about this?
I have tried couple different ways, Made a query from the tables and then using that as Record Source for the form as well. It doesn't seem to work properly.
I am trying to take two tables (one is customers and the other suppliers) and turn it into a form to pull up the data from the tables. I need to be able to enter new data. This is for a corrective action form so after pulling up the customer and supplier info, I need to input the problems and corrective action. This information will then be turned into a report that I can print out.
I am running Office 2003 with the latest updates on XP Professional SP2, again with the latest updates. The install was fresh only about a week ago, and I had only used this install of Access for a few hours before it started doing it!
I have tried creating a totally new database, or using an existing database, and the same happens. This led me to believe it was my Office install. I tried doing a repair through add/remove programs, which successfully repaired Office apparently, yet the problem persists. I even totally removed Office, rebooted, and reinstalled, and tried without updates!
I have made a form using the wizard, the form is based on some tables. Now I have to add one new table to the form, how can I do this? If I change the recordsource, it wouldn't work, I can't even write anything in the form. Is it possible to add a new table or query to a form that is made with the wizard? Or have I to made the whole form again??
During the create form from wizard process, there is a screen which gives the option of applying a style. Can this be bypassed or can a 'none' option be added.I'm new to access, so any suggestions are welcome. I think creating a form in design view will build with no syle, but how do you add fields?thanks
When I try to create a form using the form wizard a window opens that shows the table/queries that exist in the file. This is fine all the tables and queries appear in this drop down list. However, under this drop down list is another box that is suppose to show the available fields that are in the table or query that you selected. The problem is that none of the fields appear in the box. I tried reinstalling the program. That didn't work. I've tried reinstalling the acwztool.mde ,acwzlib.mde, acwzmain.mde files individually from the program and that doesn't work. I'm using Access 2000
Any help would be appreciated. Nothing appears on the microsoft knowledge base regarding this issue.
When I try to use form/report wizard, I click on New, Form Wizard. Then I got form where I should pick fields for my form/report. But I have no one field on left side. Above I select Table but haven't any available field. I use Windows XP and Office 2003. Can anyone help me?
