Binding A Field To Specific Column In A Pull Down Manue

Feb 28, 2005

I created a a table with multiple columns. For example the table looks like as follows:

Table name - Observationcode
Code Value Description
CCH 1000 Heavy Crack
CCM 750 Medium Crack
CCL 500 Low Crack

I created fields on the subform - frmsubmain1
Field names are as follows:

Observation Code
Value
Description

I created combobox for a field called "observation code" so that the above mentioned table "observationcode" appear as a pull down menu to select from multiple lists. In the property section I bound the feild "Observation Code" to " column 1" to record the item in the column 1. I reapted this process for the fields "Value" but this time I bound the field to column 2 to show the value rate or value for the selected code. Again I reapeated this process for field name called "Description" but this time I bound the column to the column 3 to record the description for the corresponding code.

On the main form - frmmain

I created a field called Rate to calculate the total value in the subform "frmsubmain1" the validation rule looks like as follows:
=sum(Forms![frmsubmain1]![Value])

None of these seems like working except for the first one "Observation code". Observation code is looking into the right column and registering the right code but not the other two fields are not looking to the right columns, instead they are looking into the firts coloumn. I don't know why. Can anyone help me resolve these issues. I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Queries :: Using Criteria To Pull Data From Specific Table

Sep 16, 2013

Is it possible to have a query that uses criteria to pull data from a specific table?

For example: IIf([Result]'"Negative",(tblNegative goes here),IIf([Result]="Positive",(tblPositive goes here].

The tables are just text, but the query would be too long if it was used.

Queries :: Pull From A Second Column If The First Is Null

Aug 6, 2013

I have 1 query that connects 4 of my tables through a tracking number. I am trying to make it so the value (DStatus) from DTable will populate where a (DStatus) is provided, but where there is no (DStatus) the column is filled in with a (SStatus) from STable. There is always a SStatus for each tracking number, but not always a DStatus, where there is a DStatus, it is more accurate.

Can I do this all in 1 query, whether I have to make a new column within my query for this to work, whether I need to have my query output into a table first.

Is there something I could type into the Criteria field of my query.

I have tried using Nz([DStatus],[SStatus]), an Iif Statement, the IsNull function, etc with no avail.

Using Multi-Line Text Box To Pull Specific Records To A Report

Oct 23, 2014

I'm trying to have users enter multiple IDs from a table into a text box separated by newline chars, and then (once they press a button) have some sort of macro or code read each line and pull a report I've created based on the ID. Is that possible?

Example:

Table
ID
DataPoint1
DataPoint 2
DataPoint 3

1
d1
d4
d7

2
d2
d5
d8

3
d3
d6
d9

Text Box (User will enter values and hit OK)
2
3

Report

ID: 2
DataPoint 1: d2
DataPoint 2: d5
DataPoint 3: d8
-------Page Break------------
ID: 3
DataPoint 1: d3
DataPoint 2: d6
DataPoint 3: d9

Reports :: Column Heading On Report To Pull From Main Menu?

Nov 20, 2014

I have fields on the main menu where folks put in a start and end date prior to running a report. I'm doing a monthly report that pulls current month, and two prior months of data. For example, the user selects a date range of 10/1/14 to 10/31/14 the report will show August, September and October results.

I need the column headings to change each month depending on the date range they select to run the report so in November they will pull 11/1/14 to 11/30/14 and get September, October and November.

The headings for the columns would then adjust.

I put an unbound text box with the formula as follows in the control source of the report page header to pull the month that is equal to the current month minus two (I'm just showing one of the column headings formula):

=Format([Forms]![Main Menu]![EndDate]-2,"mmmm yyyy")

This is not working. It's pulling the current month which I have set to run for October so it should show August 2014.

Locking A Specific Field Of A Specific Record

Oct 3, 2005

Hello, I have just spent ages doing searches and reading everything I can on locking. But, I have yet to find an answer as to how I can lock a specific field in a specific record.

e.g. Staff enter customer details, then at the end of the day the admin (me) checks it over and presses a big old button that stops them from locking certain fields in the current record only - they must still have access to the unlocked fields of the current record, and it must not lock any other records.

I'm guessing there's some VB code in the form of fieldname.lock = true, but then it locks the field throughout the whole table!

Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

Forms :: Performing Basic Math On A Specific Column / Row

Oct 10, 2014

how to do anything with it outside of tables and queries. I have been tasked with creating a form to do fairly basic things. Via tutorials I have managed to use the Expression Builder to do virtually everything I need except one thing.

I need to pull a value from row 2 in a specific column from a subform and subtract it from row 1 in the same column and subform leaving behind a + or - number for the user. Similarly, I need to do the same but subtracting the LAST ROW from row 1. If there is only one row at the time the operation is being performed, a value of No Data needs to be returned instead of a number.

Queries :: Select Statement To Return Specific Data From Another Column?

Nov 3, 2014

I was just wondering if this is a possibility to do in one query or if it has to be run from a number of different queries.

I am currently developing a database from scratch for work (with very little Access experience).

The current query I am trying to run, if linked to a number of tables with different information.

What I am trying to do primarily is link stock to a specific "Host Name", "Serial Number" and "Part Description".

In the "Host Name" there is for example - A1-TX10-10001, B1-TX2-10004, C1-TX-10004 - The latter part of the name is a unique identifier number. The first part is the compartment in which the "stock" sits. So you may have all three components (A1-TX1, B1-TX2, C1-TX3) linked to the same unique identifier (10001 for example)

The serial numbers naturally are different for every single one and of course the srial numbers are linked to the "Part Description" - which will read something like....."C1-TX3 Transmitter", "B1-TX2 Combiner" etc.....

When I run the query like this the Host Name (which is also linked to the unique identifier on its own (10001) it returns everything under "A1-TX1-10001"

What I would ideally like to do is write a statement so that if the "Part Description" contains "A1-TX1" it will only return rows that contain "A1-TX1" in the Host Name and the same for "B1-TX2" and "C1-TX3" in the same query.

If "Host Name" contains "A1-TX1" to return "Part Description" to contain "A1-TX1"

Would Like Field To Automatically Pull Data From Other Table

Apr 28, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I am having trouble with our receiving database. This database consists of two tables. One for vendors, which basically contains their vendor ID as well as vendor name and phone # etc. The other table is our receiving data table. When our receiving person receives product in, they log this in the receiving table including info such as date, autonumber for record, vendor etc. The problem is, when the person selects the vendor id, which is set up as a lookup field, we would like to have the vendor name pop up atuomatically within that record. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this isn't happening. The person is using a form to enter all of this data and runs a summary report at the end of the day. Our accounting dept. is requesting this info be added, but I cannot seem to figure it out.
Thanks so much for any assistance!

IIF Statement To Pull String From Memo Field

Sep 12, 2006

I have a 3rd party database where I have no control over how the data is entered. I've been given the task of creating a Crystal report that would need to gather data from two databases. The link between the two databases in my report would be on a quote number. In one database, the quote number is in it's own field. In the 3rd party database, the quote number is stored in a memo field along with other data.
Here's an example:

4000 C7875
9003267 T7761
90000167/4010/T6895
4010 T7152A
TPCA #1756/2914

The data I'm after is
C7875
T7761
T6895
T7152A
*No data from the 5th row since the data after the "T" isn't numerical

So far I'm thinking of using an IIF statement to check for the existance of a C or T, then if true, use a nested IIF statement within the first to check for numeric, if true, use the Mid function to pull out the quote number.

My first concern is this could become a complicated IIF statement and was wondering if there was another direction I should be looking in acheiving this.

My second concern is if I go with this method, some of the quote numbers have a space after them, some of them have no space after them, some may even have a "/" after them. How would I go about accomplishing this?

2 Tables With Same Value In A Field.. Pull Into A Report Or New Table? Possible?

Sep 24, 2007

I have a slight problem here with a database program I am designing. I have two excel spreadsheets, one created by one department here, and the other created by a second department.

I have the access program importing the relevant fields from both programs into 2 tables. Table 1 is the listing of employees in the company and their info (minus the location where they work). Table 2 is the listing of employees who are in this facility.

I need to prepare a report of all employees in this facility who appear on the other table.

I have a field in each table (both called F1) with the employee names.

Is there a way I can run a report in Access where it pulls all the info I need into a Report as long as the name appears in both tables F1 fields?

Even if I can create another table based on that info, and then just do a full dump to a report from that new table, that would be great.

I am not familiar with VB or SQL really, but I figure something like this would be doable, I just don't know how to go about writing it :

If Table1.F1 == Table2.F1 Then {
Append Table1.* INTO NewTable3
}

Something where if the name on F1 in Table1 matches the name on F1 in Table2, it takes all the data from that record and appends it or dumps it brand new into a NewTable3..

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Queries :: Pull Date Field From A Form

Jul 22, 2015

I have a query that is pulling a date from a Form. In my Query Criteria, I can put:

Code : >=[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date]
or
Code : <=[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date]
or
Code : =[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date]

And it works fine, but I don't want to hardcode the ">=", "<=" or "="

I would like the user to be able to choose ">=", "<=" or "=", from another field on the Form, so I am trying to code it on the query like this:

Code:
IIf([Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Variable]=">=",>=[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date],IIf([Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Variable]="<=",<=[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date],IIf([Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Variable]="=",[Forms]![frmAdhoc].[Date])))

But it isn't working for the ">=" or the "<=". It just gives me a blank result.

Changing ControlSource Binding

Aug 29, 2005

I have a form. The form is bound to an underlying query which is a left join between two tables. (SELECT ... T1 LEFT JOIN T2 ON T1.RID = T2.RID ....)

Now, what I want to happen is the value in T1.RID does have a match in T2, then I want a sequence of text controls to be bound to fields from T2, otherwise I want them to be bound to fields in T1.

I almost have it working. I have Form_Current() and T1_RID_Change() both calling a routine

sub BindControls()
if isnull(T2_RID.value) then
txtField1.Controlsource = "T1.Field1"
txtField2.Controlsource = "T1.Field2"
' etc for each field
else
txtField1.ControlSource = "T2.Field1"
txtField2.ControlSource = "T2.Field2"
' etc for each field
end if
end sub

The problem is that when I change the value in T1.RID, most of the times it does change the controlsource appropriately. But other times it lags. It keeps the wrong controlsource until I try changin RID again, and sometimes the text boxes are just blank, so I am not sure what is going.

Am I ultimately going to be able to make this scenario work?

Thanks,
David

Calculated Field Pull Total From Another Report Or Form

Dec 16, 2004

I have a report with a calculated field. This calculated field needs to pull the value or total from a field in another report. I think the formula is :
=([AssmntC].Reports!totalreqamnt4)
but I'm getting ?Name as the result.
The report is AssmntB where I need to have the value copied.
The original report is AssmntC and the field is totalreqamnt4 where the value is originally calculated.
totalreqmant4 is also a calculated field which sums fields from a query.

Help with the formula? please?

Binding Recordset With Combo Problem

Feb 26, 2005

Hello Everyone,
I am stuck in a problem for many days now.
In the form, on which I am working, there are 2 dropdown lists (combo box).
The data in the first combo is coming from a list and in the second combo, I am running a query, and depending upon the selection in the first combo, the data in the second combo may come from one of many tables in the database.
What I want is to have control over the data, before it is being displayed in the second combo, as the data in have many null and 'same name' entries. But what I don't want is to change the original data in the tables.

Till now, I have been trying to make use of persistant recordset, that is, by storing the recordset in an external table, changing its data and binding it to the second combo. But I am unable to bind the data.

What in your opinion, is the best approach to accomplish this. A snippet will be of great help as I am not a experienced programmer.

Form Field To Auto Pull Data From A Table When There Is A Match

Feb 5, 2013

I have built a nice database that has a form to enter data which logs in product received, there is a combo box on the same form that is linked through the query builder to auto populate the names from the contacts info table (the receivers of the product received) the contacts info table also contains information that is specific to each name such as locations.

As of now I have created a command button that brings me to the form that shows the information fields I need specific to a name, once I get that I have another command button to bring me back to the main form. How to create an additional list box on the main data entry form so as when the name is entered the new list box or text box (which is best?) will auto populate the information I need on one form instead of going back and forth.

Example:

Requester Name [ auto populate name ] currently linked to contacts info table (working)

(New field) Preferred Location [ need to auto populate location ] from the contacts info table (how do you pull locations specific to a contact name from the same table?
