Built In Functions Not Working
Feb 25, 2008
Hi, I have a database in Access 2000 format that runs just fine on my work PC which is running XP Pro and Access 2003. When I run it on my laptop (Vista Ultimate and Access 2002) I have a problem where it doesn't recognise the Mid function (or Left, right etc...for that matter). Everytime I try to run the query I get an error 3085 Undefined Function 'Mid' in Expression. Other databases work fine, it just seems to be this one. Can you please explain why this is happening and how I can get around it. Cheers

Not exactly sure if we has anything to do with sql server so sorry if it isnt strictly relevant.
I have a database on sql server and am using an access data project as the front end. Have finsihed this and is working fine till I try and use it on another computer on the network. It still connects to the database fine (well on most machines on the network not sure why not on the others) but the problem is access functions in my reports and forms seem to have stopped working and show up as ?#name
Examples of the kind of functions I am talking about are
=Format$([DateFrom],"Long Date")
=[SumOfMinutes]60 & Format([SumOfMinutes] Mod 60,":00")
any suggestions?

My access installation opens databases reasonably well. I can create databases, add tables, etc. However, I cannot:
1) Add a command button or data-related fields to a form: the "command button wizard" stops responding on the first screen. If I click "Cancel", the button depresses, but the wizard doesn't close.
2) open the "Linked table manager": Access crashes
3) import an Excel spreadsheet: Access crashes
I suspect these might be related.
I've tried these with various databases, some on my local C drive. I have also tried these with various excel files. Not being able to add data items to forms is particularly irritating -- I don't want to build my own front end (that would sort of ruin the purpose of using Access, except that it happens to be a database already on my desktop).
One other thing -- when I start up a database, it always gives me an initial "Installing components" message. This occurs similarly for other MS office applications as well. I don't know whether this is related. I do have admin rights on my local machine, and have tried the "Repair MS Office" function in the Control Panel.
I don't necessarily expect an "answer", though some advice on how to proceed would be great.
Thanks in advance,
update: Access 2002, Win XP box

Hi All,
Have a problem with the Toolbox functions when in form design mode; they have suddenly stopped working this afternoon.
For example add button no longer brings up the wizard asking about the various options, combo box wizard no longer appears.
Has anyone encountered this before?
Have tried a reboot but no luck.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
I just finished building my database and i have to install it on a PC. my problem is how to remove access tool bars and menues so that the only thing that appears when you open the databse is the login screen?
I don't want the user of the database to be able to go to design view and change the design of the forms or the reports. I want the user to see and be able to interact with the login form and the switchboard.
I wanna also know how can i install the databse on the PC. do i just copy it and paste it or is there any way else?
I hope you understand what i want.
Thanks in advance for your much appreciated help.

Hello,
I created a database, and was trying to get the welcome form, to load full screen. So I unchecked all Menu bar and Shortcut bar (allow)
So I now have locked my self out.
Any ideas, I once remember something like ctrl while opening the database, but that does not fix it.
Thanks,
Ranger

Hi
I went into tools, startup and unchecked allow full menus. Now when I open the DB, I don't have the tools menu so I can check the allow full menus. I need to get this back so I can continue working on the DB. There must be someway to get this back/reverse it.
Access 2003
Thankyou

I am trying to remove the built in form views from access 97. Is it possible to remove the navigational functions of the form while in view mode (ie first record, previous record, search, next record, and last record)? There is also an arrow bar that has no functionality to it placed at the left side of my forms that I would like to get rid of. Is this possible? Thanks for your help!

I have a randomized table named tblRandomBoxes with the following data:
ID RandomID
1 4
2 5
3 2
4 6
5 1
6 3
I have 6 command buttons named command1,command2,command3, etc. and 6 Labels named Label1,Label2, Label3, etc. On Click of each command button, I want to lookup the ID based on the RandomID and set the backcolor of that label number to a different color.
ie) on command1 click me.Label4.backcolor = 39835
How can I 'build' the label number with the lookup? Here's the code I'm trying, but it doesn't recognize my 'built' label number:
Private Sub command1_Click()
Dim ctl As Control
ctl = "Label" & DLookup("ID", "tblRandomBoxes", "RandomID = 1")
Me.ctl.BackColor = 39835
End Sub
Thanks,
Sup

I have a combobox on a form that lets the user select a business name which then populates the rest of the fields in the form appropriately. But when it does this it makes it so that the seach function at the bottom of the screen no longer works, as it only has the selected record as an option. So before selecting a name from the drop down list at the bottom of the screen is says "Record: 1 of 5" but after selecting the name it become "Record: 1 of 1." Is there anyway to still allow the built-in search function to work alongside using a combobox?

I am using an active x control that when you right click on it, it automatically pops up an "About" box showing information about the control. I wouldn't object to this, but I need to use the right mouse down event for another purpose in my program. So far I have discovered that the code I put in the the event works, but only after the "About" box pops up. Is there anyway to cancel or prevent the popup? The reason that I need the right mouse down event is because is that I am already using the left mouse double click event, and I can't use the left mouse down event because then it always fires before the left mouse double click event. This control doesn't have any single click events. Ideas?

I have developed some complex pass-thru queries in Access, looking at DB2 data. I am hoping to be able to make these queries 'prompted' for easy use for my less technical colleagues. If these were developed in IBM's QMF tool, I would build the prompt like &MemberID, for example, if I wanted the user to input a value for Member ID. Access pass-thrus don't recognize this, and it throws an error. Anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?
Thanks in advance for any help...

I need to create a census report from the employees we serve and their dependents, by company. I have a union query of the Employees table and Dependents table to put them all on one list, then a form where you can type the name of the company you need, with a button that opens the report. This works great, except for the fact that sometimes we don't need the dependents; if a company has over 100 Full-Time employees, we only need the employees. I've added a check box ([IncDep]) on the form, asking the user if they want to include the dependents, but I don't know how to get this to filter the report. I have a Relationship field on the tables that specifies an employee as a "Subscriber", so I'd like to filter the report where [Relationship] = "Subscriber" but I don't know how to do this. The union query specifies both Employees.Relationship and Dependents.Relationship to the text box [Relationship], but when I do something like
Dim stDocName As String
If Me!IncDep.Value = False Then
stDocName = "Census"
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acViewReport, , "[Relationship]='" & "Subscriber" & "'"
Else
stDocName = "Census"
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acViewReport
End If

It is my understanding that a custom macro was built to pull text data from a file and import it into Access in the appropriate fields. This macro no longer works and will return the following error message:
"License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in design mode."
It only gives an option to click OK. When you do it shows a box called "Action Failed" that lists the macro name, condition, action name, and arguments with three button to click on the right of the box: "Step" "Halt" and "Continue". It appears that only the "Halt" button is available to be clicked.
Does this sound like an issue with the Access license or whatever license the macro might have? We're trying to decide if it's possible to restore the functionality of the macro.

This is something I've been working on that very nearly works until it get to point DM
What I need to do is convert a build time for a single unit which is stored as mins:seconds into a build time depending on number of units being built then display the time as Hours:Mins.
I don't know of any functions in access that do this so have been playing with the code below which works upto the point of DM where I need to add the mins together then if more than 59 add the hour(s) to hours and then use the mins part as the total mins.
It needs a lot of cleanning up as been playing but hope somebody can help.
T = The Time IE 2:43
N = Number of units being built
Function GetTotalTime(T As String, N As Long) As String
Dim M As Double, S As Double, Y As Integer, MZ As Integer, MS As Long, H As Single, Min As Long, MM As Long
Dim DM As Long, Z As Integer
Y = InStr(T, ":")
If Y <> 0 Then
'Do The Mins Convert To Hours First
M = Left(T, Y - 1)
If M > 0 Then
M = M * N 'Minutes * Number Of Units
'Convert Total Mins Into Hours
M = M / 60
Z = InStr(M, ".")
H = Left(M, Z - 1)
'The Left Over Mins
Min = Mid$(M, Z + 1, Len(M))
End If
'Do The Seconds
S = Mid(T, Y + 1, Len(T))
If S > 0 Then
S = S * N 'Seconds * Number Of Units
If S > 59 Then 'Has Minutes
S = S / 60 'Convert Total Seconds To Mins.Seconds
MZ = InStr(S, ".")
MM = Left(S, MZ - 1)
'Dont worry bout odd seconds
Else
MZ = InStr(S, ".")
MM = Left(S, MZ - 1)
End If
End If
End If
'Now Add The Mins Together then / 60 to get hour /mins and add the hours to hours the remaining mins are the total mins element for build.
DM = MM + Min
GetTotalTime = H & ":" & DM
End Function
Many thanks
Mick

I'm working on the Navigation Form template in Access 2010, which is new to me. It appears that one needs to use the BrowseTo command to open up a form in the built-in subform module. I'm trying to create a couple of buttons where each button opens a form in a different data mode; one in read-only and one in add mode. Here is the syntax I used for read-only:
DoCmd.BrowseTo acBrowseToForm, "frmSales","frmNavigation.NavigationSubform", , ,acFormReadOnly
frmSales is the Sales form I want both of the buttons to open and frmNavigation is the Navigation form. It seems to be ignoring the data mode part at the end however. It only will open in Edit mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong with this command?

I've read and gone though quite a few of the scrips and examples for creating logins and security and i'm getting to the stage when i need to have good understanding of the different methods.
Some of the examples whilst create a user login do not really allow for security within the database whilst the build in security wizard would appear to offer that functionality.
I am thinking that I will use the Workgroup file and that method. My question is am i able to utilise the fact that if a person 'AdamA' logs onto the database which is built into the workgroup security file. am I then able to take 'AdamA' to populate a table which records actions by a user? (I can't seem to find any thread or book reference to doing this)

I have a table called input and a "form" input made on top of that same table. When I input the data on the form it updates properly no issues.
I have another table main. i update the vendor name using combo box from main.
It works like that.
SELECT main.[Vendor Number], main.[Vendor Name]
FROM main;
And I update the vendor name using control source =vendorname.column(1)
I have even achieved the same thing using DlookUp .
The problem is that it saves on the Form but the data from Dlookup or from comboBox updates for "Vendoe Nmae" is not saved in input table.

I have a crosstab query built on a select query.It works perfect. However, when I try to use the "Between [BegDate] And [EndDate]" it tells me access engine can not recognize it.If I use this in the actual select query it works fine. But when I try to use the crosstab query it gives me the above error.
Also, I'm using two undbound textboxes on a form for [BegDate] and [EndDate]. I have the syntax correct in my select query and it works fine. But it won't work with the crosstab query.

I currently have a text box that is calculated off of 6 other text boxes. I want the one field that is calculated to update any time I change any of the other fields. I can do this by putting the same calculation in each ones afterupdate event. Below is one section of my code for the arithmetic, and I want to perform that code many times. Can I use a function to do this, and if so some help would be nice? thanks
Private Sub HEAVY_AfterUpdate()
Total_Sheets = SECOND + HEAVY + LIGHT + SCRAP
Total_Sheets = Total_Sheets * YIELD
Total_Sheets = Total_Sheets + D_Sheets
Total_Sheets.Text = Val(Total_Sheets)
End Sub

In access, I'm trying to create a database to track material that has an expiration date of one year from the appointment letter date. I'm not sure what I need to do here. Here's what I have: I have a table that has fields for the individual (UNIT), the appointment letter date (Appointment Letter Date), and a True/False field (Out of Date) that I want to make True when the current date is greater than the (Appointment letter date + 365 days). Is this possible through Access tables and/or queries or will I have to incorporate VB? I am an extreme novice when it comes to expressions and query building in Access.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I will firstly give you the low down on the business that I am doing the database for. It is a Car Restoration Business, where we deal with vintage/classic/muscle cars and restore them to the former glory.
I do not know Microsoft Access very well, I have attached a file with what I think is a databae :) I could be wrong. The main function of this database is to search for suppliers for a specific car part for a specific car.
So if I want to find a doorhandle for a 1970 Ford Mustang, I need the suppliers pertaining to those criterias to come up.
How do I get this to happen?
Thankyou for your help
Jess:confused:
