Built The Databse...What Is Next?

Mar 22, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I just finished building my database and i have to install it on a PC. my problem is how to remove access tool bars and menues so that the only thing that appears when you open the databse is the login screen?
I don't want the user of the database to be able to go to design view and change the design of the forms or the reports. I want the user to see and be able to interact with the login form and the switchboard.
I wanna also know how can i install the databse on the PC. do i just copy it and paste it or is there any way else?

I hope you understand what i want.

Thanks in advance for your much appreciated help.

Need Databse Help, Will Pay.

Mar 2, 2007

I have an inventory database i am working on but am too new to access to know all the inner workings. Quick summary of what I need to accomplish:
I have a databse with several tables each representing different types of parts that we sell. Each table is similar in that the primary key for each is the part#, beyond that though the different types of parts have different specs that go with them. (example: for enclosures, the dimensions are needed but the amperage is not, for circuit breakers the opposite would be true.)

Next I have an inventory table, each record has a unique Control number that we assign as the primary key, then just a part #, notes about its condition (some parts are used) , a shelf location, and a price and date.

I have a very small sample database that i can email to anyone interested in looking at it.

Basically what i think i need to come up with is form that has several aspects to it. A user enters a "CATALOG NUMBER" into a combo box at the top of the form. tabbing out of that field then shows the specs of that catalog number below. the problem is the part numbers would come from a number of tables like the BUS PLUGS, MCCB'S, ENCLOSURES tables, all of which have different types of data. Finally, at the bottom of the form would be a result of a search through the INVENTORY table returning the multiple lines of line by line data where the CATALOG NUMBER matches the one specified above to show the records with the same catalog number but different notes, prices and different shelf locations. anyone care to take a look?

Locked Out Of My Databse

Jul 12, 2005

undefined

Hi, can anyone help? Like an idiot I veered away from my intention to put a password on an Access database which holds only a table and a few queries and explored other security options. I now cannot get in to the database at all and get a message telling me that I do not have the necessary acces srights and to consult my administrator. When I look at the properties, I am shown as the administrator, which makes sense but despite trying various, desperate things, I cannot get back in to take the security off. Needless to say I did not create a copy first, so have learned a lesson the hard way. Any advice gratefully received.

Importing From One Databse Into Another

Apr 11, 2008

Hello,

I need to import the data from one database into another everytime a form opens, I have some code which works:

Function GrabAccessTable()
DoCmd.TransferDatabase transfertype:=acImport, _
databasetype:="Microsoft Access", _
databasename:="\triggerwwwroot$AW@RDAW@RDOnline.mdb", _
objecttype:=acTable, Source:="Main", _
destination:="Table", structureonly:=False
End Function

The problem is that it won't surrently write it into an existing table, I want it to write into a table called Table (stupid choice of name I know....) but instead it creates a new table calle Table1.

Thanks

Richard

Update Relational Databse

Mar 7, 2008

Hello everyone! I am completely new to MS ACCESS, so this problem might be fairly simple but yet it is eating my head.So if I get some directions it will be greatly helpful and appreciated.
Description:
The bakery buys ingredients from number of suppliers, makes a several kinds of cakes and sells to few shops. There are about seven ingredients in the first week with the possibility to add new in ingredients later on. There’s a catch though; on any day, only a single type of cake is made, in a single batch and all of them must be delivered before the next day’s cake are finished. It is necessary to be able to rack the ingredients used in a batch back to the suppliers.
I have made tables for suppliers, ingredients, orders and order line (with fields ordereId, ingredientId, quantity, unit price).
Forms that allowing users to allow new ingredients types, suppliers, and new order for ingredient are required which I have made. These forms are to be used to add the data for which ingredients are needed in the second week of baking.
So these are my questions on which I am stuck in

1. Do I need any more Forms or do I need to edit my form?
2. Is it okey to put table as the data source or would it be better to place a query?
3. How do I keep records of my earnings and expenditure, expenditure and keep them updated with my databases?
I hope you will understand that I am completely new to these topics and its really hard for me to grasp them all at once. Merely some guiding points will be of great help. Thank you.

Contact Databse With Date And Time Fields

Apr 13, 2005

I created a Contact database where I have the date and time as two separate fields in one of the tables. I have them defined as such, but would prefer that the fields wait until I enter data into them and not auto fill with the current information. Is there a property of these fields I can set so that these fields do not get auto filled? Again this database is too large to send, so I hope that you can help without it.

Built In Functions Not Working

Feb 25, 2008

Hi, I have a database in Access 2000 format that runs just fine on my work PC which is running XP Pro and Access 2003. When I run it on my laptop (Vista Ultimate and Access 2002) I have a problem where it doesn't recognise the Mid function (or Left, right etc...for that matter). Everytime I try to run the query I get an error 3085 Undefined Function 'Mid' in Expression. Other databases work fine, it just seems to be this one. Can you please explain why this is happening and how I can get around it. Cheers

How Do I Fill A Drop Down Menu With Values Held In A Column In An Access Databse

Apr 18, 2005

Hi I have an access database called contact.mdb and I have linked to it just fine and used the records held in it to populate a datagrid and can update and delete records.

I don't understand databases that much but I would like to read the values into a drop down menu which are held in the field 'ID' from a table called 'courses'. I have a feeling it is something to do with data sets but am not too hot on these either. Any pointers or code would be gratefully received.

Change Backcolor Of 'built' Control Number

Dec 20, 2005

I have a randomized table named tblRandomBoxes with the following data:

ID RandomID
1 4
2 5
3 2
4 6
5 1
6 3

I have 6 command buttons named command1,command2,command3, etc. and 6 Labels named Label1,Label2, Label3, etc. On Click of each command button, I want to lookup the ID based on the RandomID and set the backcolor of that label number to a different color.

ie) on command1 click me.Label4.backcolor = 39835

How can I 'build' the label number with the lookup? Here's the code I'm trying, but it doesn't recognize my 'built' label number:

Private Sub command1_Click()
Dim ctl As Control
ctl = "Label" & DLookup("ID", "tblRandomBoxes", "RandomID = 1")
Me.ctl.BackColor = 39835
End Sub

Thanks,

Sup

Forms :: Built-in Search Function With Combo Box

Aug 6, 2013

I have a combobox on a form that lets the user select a business name which then populates the rest of the fields in the form appropriately. But when it does this it makes it so that the seach function at the bottom of the screen no longer works, as it only has the selected record as an option. So before selecting a name from the drop down list at the bottom of the screen is says "Record: 1 of 5" but after selecting the name it become "Record: 1 of 1." Is there anyway to still allow the built-in search function to work alongside using a combobox?

Change The Built-in Right-click Event Of An ActiveX Control

Mar 13, 2008

I am using an active x control that when you right click on it, it automatically pops up an "About" box showing information about the control. I wouldn't object to this, but I need to use the right mouse down event for another purpose in my program. So far I have discovered that the code I put in the the event works, but only after the "About" box pops up. Is there anyway to cancel or prevent the popup? The reason that I need the right mouse down event is because is that I am already using the left mouse double click event, and I can't use the left mouse down event because then it always fires before the left mouse double click event. This control doesn't have any single click events. Ideas?

Pass-thru Queries - Can They Be Built As A Parameter (prompted) Query?

Feb 23, 2006

I have developed some complex pass-thru queries in Access, looking at DB2 data. I am hoping to be able to make these queries 'prompted' for easy use for my less technical colleagues. If these were developed in IBM's QMF tool, I would build the prompt like &MemberID, for example, if I wanted the user to input a value for Member ID. Access pass-thrus don't recognize this, and it throws an error. Anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Reports :: Report Built From Union Query / Accessed From Form

Apr 24, 2015

I need to create a census report from the employees we serve and their dependents, by company. I have a union query of the Employees table and Dependents table to put them all on one list, then a form where you can type the name of the company you need, with a button that opens the report. This works great, except for the fact that sometimes we don't need the dependents; if a company has over 100 Full-Time employees, we only need the employees. I've added a check box ([IncDep]) on the form, asking the user if they want to include the dependents, but I don't know how to get this to filter the report. I have a Relationship field on the tables that specifies an employee as a "Subscriber", so I'd like to filter the report where [Relationship] = "Subscriber" but I don't know how to do this. The union query specifies both Employees.Relationship and Dependents.Relationship to the text box [Relationship], but when I do something like

Dim stDocName As String
If Me!IncDep.Value = False Then
stDocName = "Census"
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acViewReport, , "[Relationship]='" & "Subscriber" & "'"
Else
stDocName = "Census"
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acViewReport
End If

Error Message When Trying To Use Custom Macro Built To Pull Text Data From A File

Jun 4, 2012

It is my understanding that a custom macro was built to pull text data from a file and import it into Access in the appropriate fields. This macro no longer works and will return the following error message:

"License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in design mode."

It only gives an option to click OK. When you do it shows a box called "Action Failed" that lists the macro name, condition, action name, and arguments with three button to click on the right of the box: "Step" "Halt" and "Continue". It appears that only the "Halt" button is available to be clicked.

Does this sound like an issue with the Access license or whatever license the macro might have? We're trying to decide if it's possible to restore the functionality of the macro.

Convert Mins:Secs To Hours:Mins Depend On Units Built

Dec 15, 2007

This is something I've been working on that very nearly works until it get to point DM

What I need to do is convert a build time for a single unit which is stored as mins:seconds into a build time depending on number of units being built then display the time as Hours:Mins.

I don't know of any functions in access that do this so have been playing with the code below which works upto the point of DM where I need to add the mins together then if more than 59 add the hour(s) to hours and then use the mins part as the total mins.

It needs a lot of cleanning up as been playing but hope somebody can help.

T = The Time IE 2:43
N = Number of units being built

Function GetTotalTime(T As String, N As Long) As String
Dim M As Double, S As Double, Y As Integer, MZ As Integer, MS As Long, H As Single, Min As Long, MM As Long
Dim DM As Long, Z As Integer
Y = InStr(T, ":")
If Y <> 0 Then
'Do The Mins Convert To Hours First
M = Left(T, Y - 1)
If M > 0 Then
M = M * N 'Minutes * Number Of Units
'Convert Total Mins Into Hours
M = M / 60
Z = InStr(M, ".")
H = Left(M, Z - 1)
'The Left Over Mins
Min = Mid$(M, Z + 1, Len(M))
End If
'Do The Seconds
S = Mid(T, Y + 1, Len(T))
If S > 0 Then
S = S * N 'Seconds * Number Of Units
If S > 59 Then 'Has Minutes
S = S / 60 'Convert Total Seconds To Mins.Seconds
MZ = InStr(S, ".")
MM = Left(S, MZ - 1)
'Dont worry bout odd seconds
Else
MZ = InStr(S, ".")
MM = Left(S, MZ - 1)
End If
End If
End If
'Now Add The Mins Together then / 60 to get hour /mins and add the hours to hours the remaining mins are the total mins element for build.
DM = MM + Min

GetTotalTime = H & ":" & DM

End Function

Many thanks

Mick
