Calculated Field Not Showing?
Feb 9, 2012
In my table, which I have been using for about five months, I have been importing excel files into it, 6 so far. Included in this table are a number of fields which are caluclated, taking the information from other fields like 0, 15, 9, 3...etc and then deciding on what answer should populate the field through an IFF statement. This has worked splendidly so far. Then, just this morning, I imported a 7th excel file into the table. It all looked fine, except when i went to make sure that the numbered fields from before were not populating the caluclated fields AT ALL. Because the other groups 1-6 above this were still calculated, I determined it was not the codes fault, at least directly.

I'm working with a report that totals the number of times a topic is returned from a query. If a topic is not returned at all, i don't want it to show at all. Currently it is showing a blank field for that topic name and blanks in the count as well. Here's the filter i've put in to pull the right data out of my query: =Sum(IIf([Caller Used Resources]="No",1,0))

We have a recent issue on client PC. After application running for a while, all the sudden the calculated field on the form not showing the details, though there is data on the control. After restart the PC, the calculated field display correctly. We guess this may be due to the theme we use.

I am using Access 2003. I have a form that shows many calculated columms (some using =Dlookup(), other using =ufMyFunctions() stored in Modules). I update only 2 columns and the the form is set up as a ContinuousForm.
No problem, everything displays when I open it. Also in the form is a call (found in Modules) to function that updates a column on that table. Basiclly when opening the form it could do some updates. As I said everything works great when I open the form.
What I have noticed is that when I open the form using the following:
stDocName = "frmIPMVPCosts"
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, acNormal
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acFirst
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acLast
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmIPMVPCosts", acSaveYes
all the columns display #ERROR, except the bound columns, which display correctly. The reason I do this method is on a change of value for some of the columns used in the calculated columns on the form, I need to force an update automatically. Instead of waiting on the user to open and close the form, I do it on a CLOSE event in another form that updated some columns used in the calculated columns. That way the reports can up to date also.
This is a single user system for now. Any ideas why the calculated columns are not visible? Is there some setting I have to do? I use this method on other forms that have no calculated columns and it all works.
Thanking you in advance for any help.
Cheers, Boris

My query contains two calculated fields [TaxSavings1] and [TaxSavings2], which are based on some currency and number-type fields in one of my underlying tables.
I just created another field in my query which looks like: [TaxSavings1]+[TaxSavings2]. Instead of adding the two fields, it actually lumps the two numbers together. For example, if [TaxSavings1] =135 and [TaxSavings2]=30.25, it will give me: 13530.25. I need it just to simply add, i.e. answer of 165.25.
Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks in advance.

I have a table called welding, I want to create a user friendly form for input. The database ultimately wants to go on share point so I am building it in the web database option.
One of the fields is called location, if the location is 'Field' I want 10 more fields to appear for data entry such as weld reason, rail temperature etc . If the location is 'Depot' I want these fields to be hidden as they aren't relevant.how would I do this?

I was wondering if it is possible to determine weather to show a field based on the values from another field.
Field1, SHOW_Field1, Field2, SHOW_Field2
Field1 and Field are text, SHOW_Field1 and SHOW_Field2 are Boolean values
So if SHOW_Field1 is true, then show Field1 in the query else hide. I was wondering how to do this, I seem to not be able to do this for some reason.

I have a query with a Date field for EndDate (the dates for end-of-week, Fridays in our case) and another field for Sales (number of sales, not dollars).I want to add 4 calculated fields that represent weeks and have the Sales appear in the correct column (field) for that date.So I will have columns for 10 July 15, 17 July 15, 24 July 15 and 31 July 15 and I want the Sales for each record to land in the correct date column, based on the EndDate column. (The 4 fields is just for the sake of the example, I will actually be having dozens of these calculated date fields).I tried to do it by setting up the 4 calculated fields like:
10Jul15: Sales
and then adding Criteria like:
EndDate = #10/07/2015#
It doesnt work.

I have an unbound field that counts the number of records (=count(emplnumber)). When I open the form the value in the field is not there, if I click on the field the value appears.
It's almost like the field is being highlighted by the cursor and covering up the contents, but the cursor has it's focus set to another field.
Oh, the field is on the form footer if that matters.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
Thank you

Hi guys and Girls
I have a txt box on a report which should show comments..
In the background table the field this txt box is bound to has a data type of memo. Yet the txt box on the report stops showing any more than 255 characters! any clues? I know 255 is the field size set for my Txt fields but memo fields should be able to display 65000000000000000 trillion characters with no problems.
When I look at the table the memo field has all the txt in it, it just wont display all the txt on the report.
Thanks for any help guys.

I am doing some ICT coursework and I a bit stuck.
I am creating a database that will allow users to log in and submit bids on houses. There are only a certain amount of house plots available, but I cannot seem to make the database find the top bidders within the plots available, for example the top 5 bidders or top 7 bidders, depending on how many plots available.
I have 4 fields, from two different tables. I have a bidder ID field, House Type ID field (which I use "[please enter house type ID"]), a bid amount field and Number of plots field.
I want the query to select the top "x" amount of bids that it says in the number of plots field, e.g. 5.
How can I do this for all the different house types?

I have a form field with a date in it, is there any way I can make the value in that field display one thing, but still run a query based on the original text?
for example:
txtDate is 1/1/1000
if txtDate = 1/1/1000 then display = "*"
but the query still runs on 1/1/1000
I am asking this because I am trying to run a between statement for a date range and the only way I can do the entire range of dates on my table is to use the highest and lowest date possible (1/1/1000 and 1/1/3000) but I only want the users to see "*" so they are not confused.

One of my forms in the database is not showing some records in a particular field. Although those records are entered through the same form and are shown in the table, yet some of them are not visible in the form.
This is happening only in a particular field, and in that field, some records are shown , and some are not shown.

Hi,
I have a calculated field in a query that concatinates an order number prefix and the part number to give the order number:
OrderNum: [OrderPrefix] & [PartNum]
There are 2 tables:
tblPartsList
PartNum
PartDesc
tblPartsListCategories
OrderPrefix
OrderNumCategory
This works fine except for one of the categories. For the third category there are no entries in the tblPartsList - because they are miscellaneous.
How do I change the calculation so that it works as above where there are corresponding Part numbers in tblPartsList and otherwise gives me the order number and any 2 digits e.g. something like [OrderPrefix]*
Having been trying to do this for ages but having trouble with syntax.

I heve started a new table and one of the fields is Date of Birth.
I want to have another field that looks at the data in DOB and calculate the age, I believe that this can be done with funtion datediff, but the layout doesnt look for other fields, it just looks for a date and the Now statement.
Any ideas on how to make this work? does it have to be a querie?
