Can Anyone Help With Licensing Question?
Jun 27, 2006
I am trying to make sense of the different type of Access licences. I want to be able to distribute the access database with my application. Can anyone tell me how I can do this? My VB application needs to store & access data from a database and I was wondering if I can use Access and distribute the database - is it legal and if yes, how can I do it? What sort of license do I need. Thank you.

Hello All,
I have created a management system for small home builders and contractors.
Typically these customers will have less than 25 users. So far I have installed it in a single customer’s site, but I want to expand.
I basically have two questions.
1. What is the best way to deliver this product without the end user needing Access?
2. How can I ensure they don’t make illegal copies and give to their friends or add user without purchasing more licenses?
Thank you all,
Joe

Hi
I'm building a Software Licensing Database & I have come across this particular problem and i am not 100% sure which way would be the best way for me to solve it. So far I have created the database so that a user/software/license can be added to the system. The main form display's users information and below in a tabbed subform it displays the installed software on the machine. On the second tab it displays the license's attached to that machine. On each of these subforms its provides the user to add/delete software/license's however my problem is with error handling within the system. I have managed to make it so that a user can only selelct license's that are specific
Each License can cover anywhere from 1 to <x-amount> of pc's. What I want to be able to do is the user can select a license if their is 1 available and a small text box which denote's how many license's are available. So i know im going to need a license count which is easy enough using a SUM within a query. It is the error handling that im stuck on. I need to create a statement using the 'equal to or greater than' operator if possible saying
If NumberofLicenses >= then add license
Else If vbOKonly message - "Insufficient License's to cover this piece of software please purchase & add the new license to the system then try again"
Something along those lines.. I just dont know where this would go or how to write it! If anyone has a better way of achieving this.. fire away im open to ideas!
cheers
Ally

First off, I'm a total newbie at Access. I've had it for a few weeks now and am trying to develop an order entry system for our church (we have a discounted food ministry). I've gotten pretty far with it.
Anyway, once this app is complete, how can we have 2 computers updating one database or do we have to use just one computer exclusively and to do more than that, we'd have to go to sql server?
Also, can we install access on more than one pc? We have access 2003. We don't have any problems with buying another copy, but if we buy it, we need to know we can have 2 computers, accessing one access database. Is this possible?
Thanks for any help at all,
Ken
