Can Map Certain Fields On New Access Table To Existing Access Table

May 14, 2013

I've imported an Excel file into Access as a textfile. All of the information on the Excel spreadsheet was successfully imported in Access. The only problem that I have is that some of the fields on the table have quotation marks (e.g. "Stults, David, "KWK, Inc.", "7,860.27", etc.) My first question is whether these quotation marks can be removed from the table.

My second question - There is information on this table that needs to be manually entered on a data entry screen in Access. Is there anyway to automate this process?

Access-Linking Table Fields Together

Sep 9, 2004

Hello all-

I'm formatting an Access table and need help linking 1 field to another. I need to specify that Field B will state "N/A" if and only if (back to good old geometry) Field A states "Yes." I've tried using the ValidationRule and Default Value functions but they don't let me refer back to Field A. Any thoughts would be hugely helpful.

Thanks much.

Queries :: Access Split Zeros When Combine Fields Of A Table

Apr 25, 2014

I have a table "MansComps" which includes two fields, the "Index" field which contains a number, e.g "5" and the "Tabletype" field which contains a letter e.g "T". i have created a query based on this table, which combines these two fields and displays the result to a third field which I call "Components".

field: Index
1, 2, 3,....

field: Tabletype
T

field: "Component" has to be like this:
T00001, T00002,...

I have managed to combine the fields in my query using the expression:

Component: [Tabletype] & " " & [Index]

but the results appear without the leading zeros, like T1, T2..I have set my Index content to be a number and as a primary key and the Tabletype as a text. I also tried to change the format of Index to "00000" which works for the Index field separately but not for the Component field.Should I do something in the format of the Component field?

Tables :: Modifying MS Access Database - Direct Order Or Placement Of Fields Within Table

Feb 5, 2013

Is it possible to direct the placement/order new of fields when modifying an Ms Access database in code?

I need to modify the schema of an MS Access database via code - but I want to be able to direct the order or placement of the fields within the tables.

For example - if TableOne has 3 fields - Field10, Field20 and Field30.

I would like to be able to add say Field15 between Field10 and Field20 - not just append it to the end of existing fields.

I believe it is possible as you can do it within Ms Access itself. I can use ADO, DAO, ADOX or SQL for that matter - but it seems all of these offer no placement of the field within the table.

Tables :: Auto-Fill Fields Based On Linked Table (Access 2007)

Jan 6, 2015

I understand right off the bat if you're reaction is "don't duplicate data!!" -- mine would be too (don't fret, I know my normalization).

I've linked a table in my db to my Global Address Book in Outlook 2007 and, upon entering an employee number as a new record, would like to verify that the number entered is listed in the GAL and then pull in the associated name and location info.

The key is that I don't want this info to rely on the GAL going forward. For example, if an employee leaves or is no longer listed in the GAL, I don't want to lose the employee info (past data is needed for audit purposes). Note: I will be creating a report later to show if there are discrepancies between the GAL and my table, but that's another story...

So, what would be the best auto-fill options in Access 2007?

Records Existing In Main Table Not Found In Temp Table

Apr 11, 2007

Hoping someone can help me with this DELETE query. I have a Main table that's being updated by a Temp table that's an exact copy of the Main table but with a subset of records.

1) Insert records from Temp table NOT found in the Main table - this query I have worked out below - not tested, but the results look correct.

Need Help Here...
2) Delete Records from the Main that are not found in Temp table with an exception...only DELETE records where certain key fields are matching. i.e. If S.CAD_NAME, lngStoreNumber are a match to what's in the Main table. While
Temp table:
lngStoreNumber - CAD_NAME - lngcomponentSerial
1 - "CHK" - a
1 - "STK" - a
2 - "CHK" - a

Main table
lngStoreNumber - CAD_NAME - lngcomponentSerial
1 - "CHK" - a - LEAVE (EXISTS In Both Tables)
1 - "CHK" - b - DELETE (lngStoreNumber & CAD_NAME composite Found /lngcomponentSerial NOT Found in Temp)
1 - "STK" - a - LEAVE (EXISTS In Both Tables)
1 - "RMM" - a - LEAVE (lngStoreNumber & CAD_NAME NOT Found in Temp)
2 - "STK" - a - LEAVE (lngStoreNumber & CAD_NAME NOT Found in Temp)
2 - "CHK" - b - DELETE (lngStoreNumber & CAD_NAME composite Found/lngcomponentSerial NOT Found in Temp)
3 - "CHK" - a - LEAVE (lngStoreNumber = 3 Not in Temp table Subset)

Rule: Only delete the records for a particular CAD_NAME and lngStoreNumber from the Main table leaving all other CAD_NAME/lngStoreNumbers.

I'm running these updates in batches of lngStoreNumber. So the Temp table will only contain subsets of what's to be deleted from the Main table thus the need to link on the key fields only NOT to delete a Subset of lngStoreNumber/CAD_NAME. I think I've tried every possible query that doesn't work.

Here is query #1 to insert records missing from the Main table that exist in the Temp table. I think what I need is a variation of this???
SELECT D.*
FROM Main AS S RIGHT JOIN Temp AS D ON (S.CAD_NAME=D.CAD_NAME) AND (S.lngcomponentSerial=D.lngcomponentSerial) AND (S.lngStoreNumber=D.lngStoreNumber)
WHERE S.lngcomponentSerial is null AND S.CAD_NAME is null AND S.lngStoreNumber is null;

THANKS.

Tables :: Normalize Existing Table Containing Data And Copying PK Value To FK In New Table

Nov 21, 2014

I am working from an existing database which is just two table. The main table has a massive amount of redundancy and duplication and needs splitting into, at first glance, 5 tables.

After I have run my various make table queries and added a Primary Key and FK field to the new tables how do I populate the FK with the Parent PK.

I thought I could simply add all the fields from the new table and then create an adhoc join in an update query to populate the PK to the FK. When I do this however I get "You are about to update 0 records"

I have tried the table analyzer but it doesn't give the correct options to split the table the way I need.

Table Problems Moving From Access 2003 -> Access 2007

Jun 19, 2007

Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.

However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.

My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.
