Cascading Form Update

Hi all,

I encounter a problem here.

I have a main form (OrderForm) with a subform (OrderDetails). In the OrderDetails subform, I put a [txtSubSumOrder] TextBox at the subform footer to perform the Sum of the OrderDetails. To pass the [txtSubSumOrder] data back to the main OrderForm, I put another TextBox [txtMainSumOrder]=[OrderDetails].[txtSubSumOrder] at the main OrderForm. Therefore, I can calculate the commission for sales, profit and etc for the Order in the main OrderForm by using the data from the[txtMainSumOrder].

The challenge is I need to wait untill the [txtMainSumOrder] has been sucessfully updated with the changes in the OrderDetails subform before I can perform the calculation accurately. But programmatically, how do I know/detect the [txtMainSumOrder] has been successfully updated, before I initiate the calculation routine? I try the [Enter], [After Update] and various events for the [txtMainSumOrder] control, but I still fail to detect the changes has been take place.

Cascading Lists On A Form?

Hello all,

I’m building a database for my studies and have hit a major snag with the final form build/design. The db is for a mug ordering system. The mugs are defined by…

The supplier – The Category – The Type – The Style
(whereby The Style is the final name for a mug).

The relationships have been designed as per the first attachment.
(see first screengrab)

Before I go on, do these relationships look realistic?

What I want for the final form to provide is 3 option boxes on the left, which would have to be setup as cascading fields. So when a Category name was chosen, it would then list the relevant Types in the next option box, and when the Type was chosen, the relevant Styles would be listed in the Style box. When the customer had chosen the final mug style, I would then assign a macro to copy the details to an adjacent form which would include customer details and final purchase cost.

Can anyone please shed some light on this, particularly the cascading field’s option, as I am at my wits end trying to solve this?

I have looked at the help file “Cascadinglistsdemo” to no avail.

Cascading Form Record Source

Heya. I hate posting yet another cascading query but I just poured through the first 40 bits and couldn't find something similar.

Basically, I seem to have an errored idea in how to effectively used cascading boxes on a larger form-wide scale.

Basically I have a form with an unbound combobox in the form header: cboSchool

The detail section should only have two fields, StudentID (txtStudentID) and a boolean (bolOT) both of which exist in a specific table source (tblStudents). StudentID is a locked field.

What I would like to do is only have the StudentID's available that are valid for the school. I attempted using a query in the record source that would reference cboSchool but I keep ending up with blank forms. (There's a string of queries that link the schools found in cboSchools to StudentID)

Any ideas?

Cascading Combo Box In Continuous Form?

how to assemble cascading combo boxes in a continous form. I wasn't having any luck in my database so I decided to create a clean test database file and just try and get the concept to work.

I've got 3 tables, Products, Categories and Orders and the form is based on Orders. In the form you select a Category from a combo box and then when you click the Product combo box it should only display products in the selected category. Technically that works. But if you click any other combo box under Products it will always display the same products as whichever combo box you click first. Until you close the form and reopen it.

Forms :: Cascading Form - Numerical Order ID

I have a problem with a cascading form, which writes back to another table. The scenario is:

There are three tables. Users, Departments & SubDepartments.

Each table has an Autonumber set as the primary key .

The form is to write back to the user table, and within the user table there is a Department & SubDepartment field. These are linked to the relevant tables and all that works.

For the form I have two combo boxes for Department and SubDepartment. Department simply pulls from the Departments table and displays/writes back to User table correctly.

The SubDepartment is the one I am having problems with. I have got it to cascade correctly but here is the exact issue:

On the existing records the subdepartment is being displayed as a number (the primary key autonumber). The drop down list displays the text of what the subdepartment is (which is what I require) but then when that is selected it throws up the error that the value entered isn't correct for that field. I guess it's because it wants to write back the numerical record ID rather than the text from the other field.

The row source query is SELECT [qrySubDepartment].[SubDepartmentName] FROM qrySubDepartment ORDER BY [SubDepartmentName];

The table fields for the subdepartment table are SubDepartmentID, SubDepartmentName, DepartmentID and SDID.

SDID can be ignored for the purpose of this question and DepartmentID links back to the main department. Just to confirm visually the cascading form does work in terms of when you pick a department it only displays the subdepartments associated to it.

Modules & VBA :: Cascading 3 Combo Boxes On 1 Form And 2 Subforms?

I have three nested forms that is Form3 is withing Form2 that is within Form1 (in reality = 1 Form and 2 subforms cascaded).

I want to select a value from Combo1, that will further brings the values in Form2, and then further filter the values in Form3. If the three combos were on the same form, I wouldn't have an issue. But since each combo is in every cascading form/subform, I dont know how to pass the filterning further to the other two combos.

Populating An Underlying Table When Using Cascading Combo Boxes In A Form

Hello everyone

I have read the FAQ on cascading combo boxes and have managed to apply the theory to my DB's data input form (frmDataEntry) which is very cool and prevents a lot of errors however in doing so it no longer populates the underlying table (tblProductionDetails).

I am at a loss as to how to correct this as you can see from the example I need the customer and description field to be populated with the correct data rather than the fields I am using to make the cascading combo boxes work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tables :: Cascading Combo Box - Output Form (Word Or PDF Document)

I have created a form with 9 cascading combo boxes. There are 59 total results or scenarios (which are based upon the completion of the form and these 9 combo boxes). Currently, upon completion of the form and the 9 combo boxes, a text box displays the singular result/scenario.

Here's my question: Rather than utilizing a text box to display the result/scenario, is it possible to output a PDF or Word document? If so, is there a general VBA code for this that I could manipulate?

I have been trying to modify a sample database to suit what I want to do but I am getting stuck on the very first part cascading combo boxes i want to open a form and add multiple items to a table - first i want to select, from a combo box a department - then select a supplier from all the suppliers/manufacturers related to that department then select a stock item based on the description from all the items available from that supplier

Cascading ComboBoxes

Hi

I have 4 Comboxes all Cascading from one an other and it's all working fine.
My question is about My fourth combo boxe, It as two fields that the user can see when he selects the fourth comboboxe; pretty straightforward...

I want the user to see the two fields on the form after using the combo boxe. For this I have one of the record to populate the comboboxe and the other one to populate an other text box using the dlookup function where the criteria is = to the field selected in the combo boxe, I hope you're following...

Now, some of my records for each fields are not all different from each other so when the user select a set of value the "dlookup text box" may have several option: the index is not unique if you see what I mean...

To have the unique index, I would need to add to the 4th combobox the primary key which is an autoNo that the user doesn't really need to see...

So... I am thinking of hidding the primary key column in the comboBoxe and make it the main field THEN write a code on the after Update of the Comboxe to hide the comboxe and show a text box placed over the comboxe with a dlookup function with a criteria = primary key and an other text box set on a different field with the same criteria.

I hope this is making sense, I was wondering what you were thinking of this method, it seems to involve a lot of fiddling which I don't mind but I'd rather make sure that i making it right.

Cascading Combo Box

Dear members,

I have a form with 4 Combo boxes bound to fields in 4 tables;

1) Oblast Name
2) District Name
3) Jamoat Name
4) Village Name

The selections work fine. Cascade works from Oblast to Village Name. My question is ;

Currently the ID's of the bound columns are stored in the tables instead of the corresponding data. For example for the Oblast name; I have the value "3"=" rather than "Khatlon" for District_Name, I have "223", rather than "Muminobad".

Is there way to capture the names of the respective places rather than storing ID's in the table?

Data Cascading?

Hi,

I'm fairly new to database design. I'm designing a database that has 5 tables, the first table stores a persons details and a unique trace number. The other tables contain this trace number and some other details.

Is it possible that when i enter a persons details to the details table, name, Surname, Trace Number, that this trace number will cascade or replicate in the other 4 tables? How would i do this?

Cascading Combos On Many-to-many

Hi!

I am trying to find a solution for this many to many relation and combos! I ve managed to do the one-to-many as the Mile-o example but i have trouble getting the same result right on many-to-many relations

as you know access needs us to create an extra table for many-to-many relations! but the example talks about the current an the previous table! how can i have 3 cascading combos with many to many relations to each other???

i also have a fourth but this one is related as one to many with the 3rd!

for more information i have:

Many Cars-to-many Categories of brands of parts
Many Categories-to-Many Brands of parts
One Brand-to-Many parts

the many parts combo is also a record selector!

In the beginning I had one table of parts with 4 foreign keys then i changed it to the current one with the previous chain of relation ending to parts with one foreign key! is this better???

Cascading Failed

I have three cascading combo boxes that, when a selection is made, will auto-fill 3 following text fields. So I had it working just beautifully, with the data pulling from the correct columns. All of a sudden, they stopped working, and the text fields are displaying #Name? instead of the appropriate data. Nothing has changed on my form, and I have really been struggling to determine what happened and to fix it. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I have seen it done before using text fields but
not using numeric fields as in my case here and

Cascading Error For Same Last Name

This ought to be an easy one, and I had it figured out in the past, but I can't remember what I did before. I've tried so use the forum search, so I wouldn't have to bother anyone with this, but I can't seem to word my serch criteria properly.
I have a cascading combo box for doctor's names that will auto fill 7 other fields (contact info), based on its selection. It works very well, until I have a doctor with the same last name as another doctor, say, Dr. Mary Jones, and Dr. Henry Jones. The list is sorted alphabetically, so Henry Jones is first. His information populates exactly as it should, when selected from the list. However, when I select Mary Jones, only HENRY's information displays in the 7 corresponding fields. What's wrong here?

I am new at programming in Access and I am writing a database for our church. I have 2 tables, one called “Donators” and the other “Donations”. In the Donators table I have their Last Name and First Name along with their address etc. In the Donations form I use a combo for the Last Name and a separate combo for the First Name. I did this so the person entering data doesn’t have to use a mouse but simply tab and type. Both combos are bound to the ID number. Without using a cascading combo, all First Names appear not just the ones relating to the Last Name. I checked the examples on cascading combos and tried them but without success. I could really use someone’s help. Thanks.

i have a subform called Tbl_Trainingsubform

on here i have two combo boxes which i am trying to setup as casacading...i believe this is how they are referred to anyway.

combo box 1 is called cbosection the other is called cboactivity

New At Access: Update Simlar Text Fields In One Form Based On Another Form

I am very new at Microsoft Access. I have two forms, A and B, that are filled out by two different users. Form A gets filled out first than form B gets filled out. Each has a name box as well as a birthdate box and a few other similar text fields. However, each form also has a few distinctive fields. I was wondering how I could input the common information in Form A to Form B so the user of Form B does not have to spend time retyping the name and birthdates again. In other words, I want to synchronize the similar records between the two forms. I would like the values to appear in a table as well. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with the visual basic code. Thank You.

I have a data entry form which have a date field.This field retains the existing date after the record is saved with vba after update event.

Almost after a year of perfect working i am facing a problem.When i save the record , in date field my date and month values are reversed if date is between 1-12.although my database stores perfectly valid date. for example if date is "10-09-2014" (dd-mm-yyyy) after saving form date field becomes "09-10-2014". but if date is "13-09-2014" The date form field retains this value .

Update / Refresh A Form Upon Entering Data In A Popup Box / Form

I apologize if this has probably been asked countless times; however, in my search of this forum I could not find something that seemed to work for something so simple.

Scenerio:

I have 2 forms. The first form is my main form and the second form is my "popup" form. Both of these forms access the same table. In my main form I have it so people can not enter in a ID so it reduces accidental data entry. Therefore, I created a "popup" box that allows ID entry.

Everything works great except when I close out of the popup form, the newly entered data is not available unless I close the main form and reopen.

Million Dollar Question:

How do I refresh or requery (dunno the correct term usage here) the main form to reflect the addition I made in my popup form. I would like the refresh event to happen when I click the close button on my popup form.

Cascading Combo & Dates

This is driving me a little mad, and its probably something quite simple!

I am creating a form which will allow users to narrow down their search based on criteria entered into three combo boxes.

The first combo box pop's up a calendar and is populated when the date is chosen on the calendar.
The second combo box will provide a list of systems that have a record entered on that date
The third combo box will then show a list of case id's based on the system and date selected.

I can get it working when ignoring the date, but as soon as I bring the date combo into the equation I get a data mismatch error. Now I presume that this is to do with holding a date in a text field and comparing with a date/time field in the table, so I have set both to 'short date', but still get the error.

Can anyone provide any pearls of wisdom to help stop me from going insane? (that might be a bit late tho!)
