Connect To SQL Server From MS Access 2010 Through DAO
Nov 15, 2013
I have a code which connects to sql server using DAO. I would like to know is that do my system require sql server native client installed to run this code? or what software needs to be installed to have this code works for me?
I am finishing an Access database for a customer that may want, in a later stage, to have a website(probably ASP) that would connect on the same database. Is that possible? I mean can an Access project on a pc connect to remote database(mdb or SQL server) used by the website?
If so can you give me some quick steps to do so or a good article on it?
I have a database which is now reasonably finished and am looking slightly ahead at how it can be accessed by the staff. The first clinic has two stations that need constant access to it, namely the clinic area and the reception area. The second clinic is about 3 kilometers distance away from the main clinic and will also need constant access which, I presume, would be by hosting the database on a Windows based Server, to which all three locations would connect and then be able to use the database directly. When I say Windows Server I mean as could be used to host a web site on the Internet rather than use of an internal Intranet system.
Should I split the database and only host the backend part on the server (i.e. the tables)?Does the whole database need to be uploaded to the Windows Server? Is any other software required to make this work?I presume that I would need to introduce record locking? Is this easily done and, if so, how?
I'm working in Access 2010. I created a database that I want to post in a server on the read-only mode, so that users can not change forms or querys. How can I do this in Access 2010?
I'm making an Access front-end for an existing app based (I think) on SQL Server 2000. (The Access thing makes labels... the "label wizard" supplied with the SQL Server program isn't very good.)
I can use it fine, but eventually it's going to be used by non-techie people. As it uses linked tables, when you first run it you get a message box similar to this popping up:
http://www.rainjam.com/images/login.jpg
On some machines it tries to create a trusted connection automatically, and fails, and then gives you this box with "Use Trusted Connection" ticked - thus making it even harder for people to use.
Ideally I don't want anyone to have to bother with this. Is it possible to put something into the form's OnOpen event that passes the server, database, user & password details to SQL Server, so it all happens invisibly? I've already tried creating a file DSN on the machine it'll be used on (doesn't seem to do much) and also putting this code in:
Set objConn = New ADODB.Connection objConn.ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=[server];Database=[db];Uid=[blah];Pwd=[blah];" objConn.Open
(I must admit this was a bit of a stab in the dark... it didn't work anyway)
I also found this thread (http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=50449) and tried the code but it didn't seem to work (got one of those "You entered an OnOpen expression that can't be evaluated"-type errors).
Finally... I briefly investigated redoing this whole thing as an Access Project, but haven't ever used them before and don't really have the time to learn!
Any tips would be really, really gratefully received...
I have a MS Access 2010 application when the User opens form CONTACTS Form
◦User finds single record to be used CONTACTID is identifier to be used for selection ◦User clicks button to open form frm_MAIL_MERGE ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has a drop down combo box that reads the folder location where the application resides and displays all .DOTM files (that is all template files) and one more combo box which contains the CONTACTID. ◦User selects single .dotm file for merge ◦Frm_MAIL_MERGE has either drop down to select CONTACTID or UNBOUND data field for user to type in CONTACTID number ◦User enters CONTACTID to be used for the mail merge ◦User selects SUBMIT ◦Application merges selected .dotm file with the information in table CONTACTS for the selected CONTACTID ◦Merged document is saved on the user Desktop as xxx.docx
Is it possible to have a value in an excel 2010 cell be used to update an access 2010 db?
For example, if in a spreadsheet "test" cell A2=3 then in a db "test" a column "value" is 3. However, if the value in the spreadsheet changes so does the db.
I wish to work in Access 2010 with a subset of my Outlook 2010 contacts (all desktop- no network barriers), so I am exploring the Desktop Contacts DB found in Microsoft's templates. It passes contact data back and forth using the standard macros, but I wish to add more fields from Outlook. It seems I need to find the code associated with the macro. I believe I can solve the problem using a Linked table, but am wondering if there is another solution?
Calendar synchronization is another issue. Linking gets me to the Archive Calendars, but not the Current one in Outlook which is what I want.
I am new to ASP, so bare with me. I am trying to connect to a database with ASP thats on an online server. I am recieving the following error:
Code:Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x8fc Thread 0x1018 DBC 0x99aa314 Jet'. database/test.asp, line 15
Here is my file name "test.asp"
Code:<html><head><title>My First ASP Page</title></head><body bgcolor="white" text="black"><% 'Dimension variablesDim adoCon 'Holds the Database Connection ObjectDim rsGuestbook 'Holds the recordset for the records in the databaseDim strSQL 'Holds the SQL query to query the database 'Create an ADO connection objectSet adoCon = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") 'Set an active connection to the Connection object using a DSN-less connectionadoCon.Open "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" & Server.MapPath( "/database/atosdba.mdb" ) & ";" 'Create an ADO recordset objectSet rsGuestbook = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")'Initialise the strSQL variable with an SQL statement to query the databasestrSQL = "SELECT Elements_list.Sys_id, Elements_list.Element_Name FROM Elements_list; "'Open the recordset with the SQL query rsGuestbook.Open strSQL, adoCon'Loop through the recordsetDo While not rsGuestbook.EOF 'Write the HTML to display the current record in the recordset Response.Write ("<br>") Response.Write (rsGuestbook("Elements_list.Sys_id")) Response.Write ("<br>") Response.Write (rsGuestbook("Elements_list.Element_Name")) Response.Write ("<br>") 'Move to the next record in the recordset rsGuestbook.MoveNextLoop'Reset server objectsrsGuestbook.CloseSet rsGuestbook = NothingSet adoCon = Nothing%>
As i said, I am new and might be missing something simple.
I'm new to ASP and I need to connect my webpages to an Access database I have created. I would do this in dreamweaver normally but I'm having trouble using the custom connection string function to do this. So I was hoping someone could explain how I would do this by coding it instead. The code my web host provide to connect to a database is below. If someone could explain to me how I would use this to connect to a database, I would be very grateful. Thanks. Quote: Dim oConn, sConnection
Hi there, Thank you for this great site, and a special thanks to all persons here who are giving a big help to newbees as me. here is my prob: I have set up some few ASP pages using dreamweaver 8 in wich I put some forms to collect data from users (actually I'm recruting subjects for a scientific research) and teste them on my local host using IIS server and access 2000 database. all things work correctly. My strconnection in my local machin is as follow: Code:<%' FileName="Connection_ado_conn_string.htm"' Type="ADO" ' DesigntimeType="ADO"' HTTP="true"' Catalog=""' Schema=""MM_connsujets_STRING = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=c:InetpubwwwrootSujetsRecdbRecruSujets .mdb; Persist Security Info=False"%> I have found a site (http://www.asphost4free.com) wich host free asp pages. I uploaded my pages but the connection to the data base is no longer working. the host site give this sample of code to get to connect to the data base: Dim Conn Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") strConnection = "DRIVER=Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb);DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("/USERNAME/db/yourdatabase.mdb") oConn.Open(strConnection) .... ... oConn.Close I have follwed it and I have changed the username and the database name with mine but I can't figure out what to put to replace the .... after oConn.open. I git error this error when I have tryed to connect: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'
Object required: 'oConn'
/kin2006/Connections/connsujets.asp, line 11
I deleted the oconn but it doesn't help I have tryed many other combination without any success. Any clue!! thanks in advance
I have seen it done in the past but at the time my limited knowledge did not retain how to do it, it is connected through the odbc, im am running server 2000
what code do i use to connect and how do i set up the odbc
Is there a way to connect access database with a softphone? I have an IP PBX and a soft phone and i need to click on a form and auto dial the contact. My DB contains all the data I need and also PBX.
PBX running asterisk software.
Do i need a module or something like TAPI that call windows dialer (but win dialer use a modem and not Ip phone I guess)..Or something that just wake up voip softphone and paste data?
I am just starting out learning how to connect Access to Excel. From an Access form, I need to connect to an Excel spreadsheet, and loop through every row/column to look for data that matches a database field data, then populates the associated cell data. I don't want to import the spreadsheet since the user who created it is using it manually, and I am attempting to automate the task. This is probably the most elementary code, but I would like to start out with the best way to do this. What I am finding is code that appears to be much more complicated than I need, for more complicated situations.
I 'm downloading the excel data from the site and connecting it to access.
In excel the particular column (Time Taken) is in the format of "00:12:26".
After connecting it to access and appending it to the table, the format changed to "12:12:26", the first two digits changed to "12" and the remaining are as it is how it looks like in the excel. I need to change it to format what it looks like in the excel.
I've been using the following code successfully in Access 2003 & now I need to migrate to Access 2010. The purpose of the code is to use the items that the user selects in the list box to build the criteria of a query. Access 2010 keeps giving me a syntax error when I try to run the query & I don't know why:
My code is:
On Error GoTo Err_Command151_Click
' Declare variables Dim db As DAO.Database Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef Dim varItem As Variant Dim strCriteria As String Dim strSQL As String
[Code] .....
The syntax error I get in Access 2010 is:
Syntax Error in query expression 'SELECT * FROM qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK WHERE qryContractListSummarybyDateContract3TYPEBREAK.Rep ortableName IN('Adbri Masonry NSW');'
is there a way to have both Access 2010 and 2003 exist peacefully on the same desktop. My company uses Office 2010, but my department has an Access 2003 application. As a result, I have to have A2003 on my desktop and use it quite frequently for this one application.
I have some small databases that I really want to move onto A2010 so we can take advantage of SharePoint functions, etc. Is there anytning I can do to be sure that the .mdb and .mde open in A2003 and the new .accdb opens in A2010, without getting errors and the Windows installer going through the Office installation process for the respective version? I've gone to the file locations and set the "Open with" setting to the respective version.
We're currently looking at changing a couple of my more complex Access 2003 databases to Access Front End with a SQL Server Back End. This should give us better stability and reduce network traffic loads. I was looking at the Access help file on Upsizing and came across the following paragraph. On face value to a novice like me this would seem the easy option - but is it?
"Create an Access database front-end to an SQL Server database back-end so that you can create a front-end/back-end application.
This approach requires very little application modification since the code is still using the Jet database engine. "
I am importing an Excel file into a table in SQL Server that was created by an AS400 program.
I linked this table in MS Access. The date fields from the SQL Server table are split out. DSREQM is the month and day. DSREQY is the year. When opening the table it looks like this:
DSREQM DSREQY 215 6
I need to be able to convert this is a field to 2/15/06. However I cannot get this to work. For some reason when I execute the query it comes out as 8/02. Here is what I have:
I am attempting to write an application, using Access2003 as the front end. The Backend May be either Jet (ie an MDB), or SQL Server.
I am trying to make it so that the same code works regardless of the back end.
My approach has been to set the forms recordset to an ADO recordset like so:
Set Rs = New ADODB.Recordset 'Rs.CursorLocation = adUseClient Rs.CursorLocation = adUseServer Rs.Open strSQL, gcn, adOpenDynamic, adLockOptimistic ' Set Me.Recordset = Rs
Anyone done this, and willing to sahre information/pitfalls.
First problem I am encountering is that Jet only seems to like .CursorLocation = adUseClient, and SQL Server only seemns to like .CursorLocation = adUseServer
I have a Reporting Dashboard form that inturn has many buttons to open up different reports and forms.
Now I have been asked to extend the access to a few other users with restricted access. The new users cannot see all the form and report buttons in the Reporting dashboard form.
How can i restrict this? They also need to be given separate logins and passwords. How I can accomplish this?
Hi to everyone Im not sure which thread i should be in, but here goes  i want to create a members database for members on my forum with HTML! Ive been told to make the database with ACCESS ive played for 2 days and im now acctually getting somewhere, i would like members to interacte with it ie....add there own details to it. How do i do this and how do i get it to my server, well i did upload a tester but no one could see it and its says they need to have MS installed or something like that
I'm trying to help someone with Access on a CITRIS Server. I'm working with them VIA email. They say they're having problems communicating with printers and would like to utilize their email with Access. Can someone fill me in on common problems using Access with CITRIS Server as far as printers or email or anything else?
To be perfectly honest, I know nothing about CITRIS servers. Is CITRIS a hardware system or computer type of is it an operating system???
I need to be able to add a feature to an Access project that will select a group of records based on an area code( user will have to be able to select a desired number like 100, or 1000), mark those as selected, and create a single csv file...The area codes are stored in the SQL SERVER database...right now they just export groups of #'s based on area code to excel select the amount they want and cut and paste into a flat file for another application to use...they would like to be able to select a number from a list box or type it in...like 100 ( which means take a 100 #'s from all different area codes) then have them automatically noted in database as being selected..and then export all selections to one csv file... should I do part of the work in the Sql Server behind the scenes..the format of the csv file also needs to be specific in that the first row is the columns separated by commas and then the data follows all text fields enclosed by qoutes.. Thanks for anyone's help ..Im very inexperienced with VB and Access
