Continuous Forms - Hide A Control In A Record?

Sep 20, 2005

I have a form that displays its records in a Contiuous Form. The controls on the form are: txtRecID, txtStudID, cboTrimester, cboType, fld Comment, and blnReqConf.

My issue is that I need the blnReqConf (Request Conference) checkbox and label controls to only show on the reocrds when/if the cboTrimester = "Tri-2" and the cboType = "Parent" or "Teacher" are selected or displayed.

I have written:
If cboTrimester = "Tri-2" And (cboType.Column(1) = "Teacher" Or cboType.Column(1) = "Parent") Then
blnReqConf.Visible = True
lblReqConf.Visible = True
Else
blnReqConf.Visible = False
lblReqConf.Visible = False
End If

The problem is that the controls display on all records throughout the form. How do I make it so that the controls are hidden on some records in the continous form and are shown on others based on the criteria? Is it possible?

Forms :: Hide Number Fields Of Specific Record On Continuous Subforms

Mar 8, 2014

I have a continuous subform recording the information of various wireless products for an employee embedded in an employee main form. Please see screen shot enclosed.

There is a check box "BYOD/Personal" on the subform. I want to hide a number fields when this check box on independent record is checked. However, if I use the following codes, the changes apply to all records under that employee.

Private Sub BYOD/Personal_AfterUpdate()

If BYOD/Personal.Value = True then
Me.Provider.Enabled = False
Me.XXX.Enabled = False....etc.
Else
Me.Provider.Enabled = True
Me.XXX.Enabled = True....etc.
End If
End Sub

How can I just disable those fields on the subform of a specific record when the BYOD/Personal field for that record is checked?

Forms :: Control Button Linked To Specific Record In A Continuous Form

Apr 3, 2014

Access 2010. I have a form pulling from a query to create a "To Do' list of sorts. On this form is a button to open an input form for the corresponding record (I hope). When this button is used I want it to pull certain data for that specific line from the query and input it into the new record opened by the button. I know this is possible as I use another db that does this but I have not been able to figure out how to make it work in the new db.

Conditinal Formatting For Control (continuous Forms)

Jun 29, 2006

I have a continuous form and want to display 6 buttons. I want the buttons to display depending on if there is a value in a certain field or not..

fields "DocNum1" thru "DocNum6" from TCD_RequestedCRDB

I was told that the Visible property doesn't work for individual records on continuous forms (that it will affect all records).

Is this true? i tried and couldn't get it to work..

Forms :: Conditional Formatting Of Control On Continuous Form

Feb 2, 2015

I have a continuous form on which where each record has many controls, including control (A). I wish to set the colour of this control based on the contents of another control (B). Control B is a memo format and is placed behind another control making it hidden. The idea being that the user can then click on control(A) and look at supporting information from Control B on another form.

Conditional formatting cannot be used since this only allows conditions based on the control (A), not (B). Event procedures cannot be used since they all depend on making a record the current record, and I want the user to immediately see when further information is available. When I apply VBA code using an 'on load' event it is action for all records on the form in a way that if only one record has extra information, all records are flagged in this way.

Forms :: Rota Table - Continuous Type Form In Tab Control

Oct 23, 2013

I am mid way through a Access db and have a solid idea what i want from a form. The idea is for a rota display and edit form.

a tab control with 5 tabs (-2 weeks, -1 week, current week, + 1 week, + 2 weeks) and when the user clicks it lists all the employees (Employee Table) with any found rota entrys (Rota Table) populating into a text box type table with employees information blank where no rota information has been entered.

then the user can edit / add shift information from that table and hit save.

the main rota information is inputted by an excel import but this is done once a month and adhoc changes will be needed (holidays absence etc)

the only thing i found like what i want is a continuous form (which ive never used before but been told that wont go in a tab control)

How i would accomplish this (code snippets - doesnt have to be detailed just the fundamental functions so i can add modify to suit the information the sql's i already have its just the form controls.)

Forms :: Continuous Subform - Control To Display Image / Icon Based On Another Field

Jan 9, 2014

I have a continuous subform which queries a table of attachments. I'm using Access 2007 but not using the Attachment datatype; this DB will grow considerably and I don't want to waste precious space by filling it with bulky files. So instead, I have code which makes a copy of the attachment and adds the hyperlink (to the copy) to the table instead.

Now - I want to add a control to the subform to display an icon / image reflecting the file type of the attachment (Word doc, Excel s/s, PDF etc.)

But not sure how to go about it.

I was thinking I could use FileSystemObject.GetFileExtension at the point in the code where the attachment is added, and add a new field to my attachments table (i.e. translate "*.xls*" to "Excel", etc.) Then store / embed a handful of images for the core types I would expect and use an image control on the subform to display the image based on the value of that field.

But is that even possible / feasible?

Or, is there a handy API which can retrieve the icon associated with a file type based on what has been installed on the local machine (even if there is, there's still the problem of setting up the image control to display the appropriate icon specific to each record...)

Or, is there another control available which would be better suited to something like this than an Image control?

Hide Combobox On Continuous Form

Sep 22, 2006

I do not like the look of combo boxes on continuous forms. I think that they really take away from an aesthetic I am trying to create. However, I really like their functionality.

What I would like to do is have a text box for the field when the control does not have focus, but switch it to a combobox when it does. Now, this is pretty easy to do - however, it ends up switching all of the text boxes on the continuous form to a combo box and back. I only want to switch the currently selected record.

Does anyone know if this is possible, or have any ideas as to how to accomplish this?

New Record In Continuous Forms On TOP

May 4, 2005

This may seem like a silly question but, Is there any way when a number of records show in a continuous form (that is a subform) and you allow additions, for the new record to be at the top of the subForm and the rest of the records to sort below it.

The sorting seems to effect the existing records not the new one (which being new has no data).

I know I could append the new record and then open the form without the capability of additions and sort it so that the new record is on top.

Thanks

Continuous Forms Record Count

Nov 13, 2006

I've only recently gotten to know about continuous forms and their use a bit. So for example, I used a maximum number of pre-defined (6) visits. I need to change that still, but during the development of the sales forms I already ran into a problem.

At first I was planning to have a certain maximum number of items to have on a form and create an invoice from that. But of course that would limit the number of items on one invoice which isn't good. So, now I have a continous form which adds a line containing productname, price, nr of that item etc. anytime needed.

In the previous design idea it would have been easy to calculate the total amount of money at the end of the list since the list was predefined. So I could just say invoiceamount = itemID1amount + itemID2amount + itemID3amout etc.
With the "new" design however that is impossible to do since the number of objects is unknown. So how do I create a piece of code which does that? In the continous form I have a SaleID which keeps track of which items belong to a certain Sale and a TotalItemsID autonumber which keeps track of the number of lines (items) which belong to that specific Sale.

So I need to count the total number of TotalItemsID's within a certain SaleID and then have a piece of code which creates a sum of that counted list of items.

I'm new at this, I've found the function Dcount() should be used to accomplish this, but the rest, as of yet, remains a mistery to me.

How to do this?

Forms :: Continuous Subform - Last Record

Sep 14, 2014

I have a main form with a subform in continuous format. The subform displays the list of records and has a delete key allowing the user to delete that line (record) All works except if the user clicks the delete button on the new record line. Then there is an error message. Rather than use error trapping I would like to code a message OR simply beep to confirm nothing was done OR have the delete button disabled until something is entered into the record. The records do have a autonumber which I have in a hidden text box. I tried the following and even though the code shows that LineID does in fact = Null the code does not fire.

If Me.LineID = Null Then
DoCmd.Beep
Exit Sub
End If

Forms :: Hide A Button When A Record Is Found In Database

Jun 24, 2015

I want to show/hide a button on my form.The button is for entering a new record in the table of the database.Now when i Load the form, i want to check if there are already records in the table for a specific lanID. I have found some code to tackle that, but When i use the rs.MoveLast it hides the button when there are records, but when there are no records it gives an error that there are no records found. I almost forgot to say that i use Access 2010..Here is the code that i use:

Code:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim SQL As String
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim landmeterID As String
landmeterID = [Forms]![MainForm]![LanIDTxt]
SQL = "select * from dbo_Lan_Opleiding where Id_landmeter ='" & landmeterID & "'"
Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(SQL)

Forms :: Selecting Only One Record In Continuous Form?

Nov 13, 2013

I wish having only one record display in a continuous form, after an "On Click" event. The database in which this question lies is attached.

On opening, the user first interacts with Table 1 (Continuous Form), then by clicking on ID on the details for that particular record appear.

What I would like to do is: When the user clicks on ID, only that record whose ID has been clicked on displays first on the continuous form, and then the PERSONAL form opens. To clarify further, my wish is that the sequence of events is:

User Opens Table 1 Form

User Clicks on ID (for example, let's take 2)

Only Record with ID 2 remains on the Continuous form.

Then details for record 2 display on the Personal Form that opens next.

The problem I currently have is with step number 3 above.

Forms :: Add / Edit New Record Only Continuous Form?

Mar 27, 2014

I have a continuous form with unbound controls. These controls write new records into a table using rec.addnew

If possible, I would like for the user to only be able to add/edit the new record only and not to edit the continuous form below. When I turn off edits on the form, I only get the new record to show. I found some pages that reference using code like .allowAdditons, .allowEdits and .allowDeletions but unsure of how to implement them since I have more than one control the user is entering data into. I also found another site that says to use a control to determine if the record is writable to: I do have a control that is set to =Date() on the default value.

Forms :: Using Combobox In Continuous Subform To Update A Record

Feb 25, 2014

I have a continuous subform of 'static data' whose record source is a SELECT query across multiple linked tables.

Most of the fields are locked and purely there for information purposes but I need to be able to allow end users to change one particular field in each record if they need to - choosing a value from a predetermined list (i.e. one of the tables)

Usually, when I need to do this, I add a command button to the subform and use that to open a separate pop-up form specific to that record, from which the user can make whatever changes they like and then update the record. So in this scenario, a simple unbound combobox linked to that table, on that separate form, would work quite easily.

But I would prefer if users could make their changes directly from the subform without (yet another) pop-up form required each time, to make managing these records more fluid and less time-consuming.

So my thought was to use a bound textbox in the continuous subform (to take the existing value for each record), hide it and overlap it with a visible unbound combobox whose row source is the table of available options and whose default value is driven by the hidden bound textbox. And then to use the AfterUpdate event of the combobox to run the UPDATE query on the record in question.

However, while the combobox is getting the correct default value and the correct list items, I can't make a selection from it. Now I am aware there are 'issues' with using a combobox in a continuous subform but I was hoping I could circumvent them by not binding it.
