Control Format Of Autonumber When Database Is Replicated
Mar 29, 2007
I have created a design master of my database, i want to share it on more than one PC but add data from both whilst keep developing it.
I have noticed that after replication that the ID fields now use really long random numbers and am wondering whether anyone has been able to control the 'randomness' of the autonumber?
First some background. A few months ago I replicated an Access 2003 database so that folks in various locations could all enter data. There is one master and 3 copies. One of these copies was operating on a computer with Access 2000 and it also happened to be the copy of the database that gave me some headaches (never with the synching) which I am almost positive were related to the version difference.
So, despite those other problems this copy of the database synched up fine throughout the summer. Now all the sudden I have found a few recently entered records in the copy which are not being transferred during synchronization. And from what I have been able to tell so far they seem to be from a particular data entry session on a particular date. I have already looked through the records in question to see if they are missing an important field of data or something and they seem to be complete and legitimate records.
I have tried a number of things and at this point am at a loss as to where to go next. Does anybody have experience with replicated databases and potentially run into this problem before? Any advice on what to look at next to figure out the casue and the fix?
I have a replicated databse that is used in both 2003 and 2007. Most development is done in 2003. I have stability problems with replicated/synchronised databases when running in 2007. The database normally opens with a switchboard menu, but on occassions the following error occurs:- "THE EXPRESSION ON OPEN YOU ENTERED AS THE EVENT PROPERTY SETTING PRODUCED THE FOLLOWING ERROR: OBJECT OR CLASS DOES NOT SUPPORT SET OF EVENTS". Once this happens the databse will not open. I have to create a new replica which may or may not work. The strange thing is that I can run the database failing in 2007 from another rmachine that is running 2003, so it seems that the problem is specfic running 2007. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I have two forms which contain entries which have an AutoNumber field, the tables and hence the forms are not related. Both the AutoNumbers have a format associated with them so when the user sees them in the form they look like:
ABC001 0r XYZ001
Both forms also have a date in them. I have set up a union query that checks both sets of data and displays any in separate form which fit my search criteria. The problem is that I lose the format of the field. In other words I just see 1 and 1 rather than ABC001 and XYZ001, so the source of the data can not be identified.
Does anybody no of a way that I can keep the format of these fields after I have run the query?
I want to create an AutoNumber (pkey) that is comprised of today's date, the letters CPQ (Custom Paint Quote) and have it increment by one for each quote entered that day. Ultimately, if I were to create 2 records today they would read: CPQ010705-1 and CPQ010705-2. Then tomorrows quote would be CPQ010805-1.
First of all, can you create autonumbers with custom formats? And, if so, how do I create the format?
I need to create an incrementing number to be used as a primary key in a table, based on a few variables. The format will be YYMM0000. It represents the number of units received each month.
I can come up with the formula to create that string no problem, but I need to create some code to check the table MAIN for the field TRACKER_ID to find the last number and increment it by 1.
I have a replicated database with open access, permissions granted at the folder level. Database users have requested that a form be created where data can only be entered but not modified - for data entry clerks.
I want to create a separate replica for data entry users clerks with only the data entry form available which means that they cannot see other replicated items in the main database. However, if I unreplicate some of my items then my fully functional replicated databases would not synchronize properly.
I have written a code to look up by the unique reference number rather than use the wizard to avoid this error happening... The field is restricted to list only so you can't actually edit the number. For ease of use you cannot scroll by record and I need to filter by the ID. Is there an easy fix to this combobox?
Would creating a seperate query work? Is there another lookup code I could use where I don't need to have the combo box bound to the ID field since it's not being edited anyway? I had a go at one and although it would now let me select it wasn't updating the record, tried a few ways but it seems that it needs to be bound to the field.
I have a field in a table called surname. This is not the primary key and I don't want to set it as a unique field however I want there to be a message box that comes up saying "There is already another person of this surname (or something like that" if the surname entered already exists in the database.
I have a search page and would like to display the search results in a grid/table format. User will be able to select a row to go to a detail screen. What is the best component type to use for this?
I need the auto number to be in specified format as ASI-23-0001. So I added the format "ASI-23-"0000 in the formats and I got it succesfully. The fueld name is "Part Number"
I have added the Part Number field to a form as combo and I was able to list the values in the drop down combo.
I wanted to use Dlookup command in the program to auto fill the next field in the form say "Description".
I am using the following code Me.Text30 = DLookup("[Description]", "item_master", "[Part Number] = Form![Combo36]")
But now the data in the combo is treated as text because of the prefix "ASI-23" and I get data type mismatch error.
I would like to expand on this questions. I would like to generate a number based on a reference I use, a format like "14/000" where I use "14" with the last 2 digits of the year. However i want the auto number to generate the the last 2 digit automatically when the year changes i.e. when 2015 comes the field generates "15/000" without any prompt from the user.
I have a text box in an ACCESS form that is blank. How should I format it so that zeros are visible until a digit is entered into that field? This column is for ovetime figures (e.g. 1.35 hours) that will be entered later.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and help.
I have an existing contact information database which consists of a number of tables, the main table has a primary key which is currently set to NUMBER.
There is a relationship between it and 2 other tables via that key (ContactID).
I would now like to change the primary key (ContactID) to AUTONUMBER, so that any new records added, have a number assigned automatically. I also need any newly created primary key number to be used in the child tables created as a result.
Is this possible ? (without renumbering my existing tables/records)
I created a table in a budget database without a autonumber field. I then inserted a autonumber field after creating the form by inserting a row in the table which works fine in the table, now i want to use a text box on the form with BudgetID from the autonumber field to give me the total amount of records in the database but the autonumber field is not in the record source dropdown.
The above image is of a table which I need to update according to a new data on daily basis. As you can see when I added two records at the last , the AutoNumber primary key of the table jumped by thousands . I have used the following query to update the table
Code: db.Execute "INSERT INTO D_Counterparty (CPTY_ENTITY_ID,CPTY_DESC)"_ & "SELECT Ctpy_Entity_Id,Ctpy_Entity_Legal_Nm"_ & "FROM NewCU LEFT JOIN D_Counterparty ON D_Counterparty.CPTY_ENTITY_ID=NewCU.Ctpy_Entity_Id"
I never changed the AutoNumber from incremental to random and I have also tried re-seeding it but had no success. Also when I inserted the sample values using a sample table ,the AutoNumber was working fine . Here's that query
Code: db.Execute "INSERT INTO D_Counterparty (CPTY_ENTITY_ID,CPTY_DESC,) SELECT a,b, FROM sample"
I have two tables linked to each other in one to many relationship. Instead of auto number, the date and shift (Text) is being used as the primary keys (Composite Primary Key). Here is the tables structures,
The tables Payouts and Bills has one to many relationship. One payout row can have many bills. The problem is that I want to start the Autonumber in bills table everyday from 1. As date and shift are different for every day so even if i start bills from 1 everyday, it wont make same primary key. I can do it manually but I want to make it automatically.
I inherited a big project at work that is Access 2010 using SQL server 2008 R2. I purchased Access 2010 for my home computer so I could work on the program at home. The problem is that the program won't start because Access can't open the database. I think its SQL format? I don't quite understand what the SQL server is...Is there a way to get this database compatible so I can work on my home computer.
can anybody pls pls help me? some days back my backend database file was deleted.. and now anyhow i've recovered it thru one of the recovery software...
when i try to open the mdb file which is 3mb its giving me msg "Unrecognized database format" i've done lot of excercises to open it.. but failed ..
I have designed a Access 2000 report which is getting data from a query. However when I run the report is asking to enter a parameter value which is Format$. Running simple the query is all fine but when running the report asks for this parameter and it seems that in does not like my formatting to display dollares values. I have in expression builder the following: =Format$([Due_Date2],"mmmm yyyy",0,0)
My report is grouped on Dates formatted as month and year but all seems fine. Does anyone know why is that or had a similar issue?
I took backup on a cd , while the access file was already opened.
It copied both .mdb and .ldb(access 97 foramt) files to the cd.Now the problem is I am unable to open this .mdb file in access, when I do so I get error"unrecognised data type" .Can someone help me ? sandeep chaha
I have my access database made using Access 2007.I have been working on this for about 6 months at work. I decide to make a copy of it to take home so I can work on it at home. At home I have Access 2013 and Access 2007. However when I try to open the copy I brought from work it gives me an error message saying "Unrecognized Database Format (File location and name..)"
