:confused: I've created a form within our company database which will track hardware/software requests. I'd like to create a macro, or add code to output the data entered into a notepad file. Nothing extraordinary. I'd like for it to be like this:
Ticket: XXXXX
Employee: xxxxx
Reason for Request: xxxxx
Quantity:xxxxx
Part Number:xxxxx
Price:xxxxx
Shipping:xxxxx
Total:xxxxx
Those are the headings of the fields and x's denote entered data. I'd like to keep the headers and have the entered data as well. Is it possible?
Thanks to all for your help

I'm currently working on a project within access which will allow users to select/input information in a form which will then save to the database.
What I need is to create a button on the form which will allow you to convert the data collected from the form to a custom text file template.
(Or maybe the last row added to the database. - although this may cause errors. Example: the form information doesn't save which will in turn create a text file with the data collected from the previous job)
The custom text file template should have a sentence description followed by the value recorded from the form.
Example:
1 configuration type: (data from form)
2 model type: (data from form)
3 Poc: (data from form)
And so on.
So in summary - I would be to use the form to collect the desired information which will save to the database.
Once actioned, a custom text file should be populated with the collected information (with specific data placement as per the example above)....

Hi
I new to VBA and having a few problems with a database I'm working on.
I have a form that contains customer details. The are two sections one for the Registered Office Address and one for the Trading Office Address. I want to be able to allow the user to auto fill the Trading Office Address fields if the Trading Office is the same as the Registered Office.
I'm not sure how the event code should look. I was just going to add a button that will copy the text from the Registered Office Address fields and add them to the Trading Office Address fields. I've tried a couple of other groups but the replies just contain use this code....
TOName = ROName
TOAddress = ROAddress
etc... for all your fields.
I need a little bit more info on how the event code should look.
Any suggestions on the best code to use would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
David

My problem is that I want to copy the value of a text-field of form frmSnippet into another text field of form frmChange. But this is not possible, Access tells me that it can't find the form frmChange. But it's there, I checked the name.
My code looks like this:
Const cstrForm As String = "frmChange"
Dim strNr As String
If CurrentProject.AllForms(cstrForm).IsLoaded Then
DoCmd.Close acForm, cstrForm
End If
DoCmd.OpenForm cstrForm, WindowMode:=acDialog
txtSAPNr.SetFocus
Forms!frmChange![txtSAPNr] = Me![txtSAPNr]
Why I get the runtime error 2450?

I created an unbound text box on a form that automatically pulls the current logged in user by using this:
Private Sub Txtuser_Click()
Me.Txtuser = Environ("Username")
The form grabbs the logged in user with no problems, however, I ultimately want this information to also end up in my table. So the form has three boxes (to keep it simple). The user will type their first name and last name manually on the form which the record source is this "table" where their name goes to the table last name =Field 1 and first name=Field 2 respectively. I want the unbound box from the form to place the logged in user in Field 3 for the current record.

I need to export data from a table in Access to a fixed length record text file and would like to find out how to export a number field into this text file with leading zeros.
The text file requires this 999999.99 and right justify and zero fill. My question is this: how can I zero fill from the table to the txt file? I went through the export wizard and couldn't see how to do it.
Thanks

Could anyone help with a simple answer please ?
I have an Access db that schedules the sending of emails with attachments.
I run a query on the table that returns all active users
I then need to create a separate file for each active user - in the format as shown below.
Each file is called "ddmmXX.epe"
- where dd=day,mm=month,XX=sequential number starting 01.
The file needs to be formatted ascii text file.
The file extension must be .epe
FORMAT:text
TO:{email}
FROM:{from}
CC:{cc}
SUBJECT:{subject}
ATTACHMENT:{attachment}
BODY:{Message}
All the fields within the {} are fields in the Access table
Each file must then be saved to a directory c:mailout
(eg C:mailout141201.epe)
Sample file would look like this:
FORMAT:text
TO:{harry@aol.com}
FROM:{Mat@abcde.com}
CC:{peter@aol.com}
SUBJECT:{Daily Newsletter}
ATTACHMENT:{c:mailews.zip}
BODY:{Please find attached today's newsletter}
Can anyone help - it would be much appreciated, as I am still learning the slightly more advanced methods of VBA.
Thanks

How do I go about copying data from a main form to the sub form?
I have a Soldto form with a Shipto subform.
When the two are the same I'd like to have a button to copy the data from the Soldto form to the subform.
I've tried some examples posted on this forum but, don't seem to cover a sub form.
Also, I have very limited coding experience, so please be gentle.
Thanks for any/all help you can give.

Hello friends!
I have read some of the posted threads. But I still couldn’t understand on how to solve my problem.
The scenario
I have 2 forms which linked to 2 different tables with the same attributes.
Example:
Form 1 links to table 1.Collumns (index,name,address)
Form 2 links to table 2. Columns (index,name,address)
The problem
How do I replicate the same data from Form 1 to Form 2 with Single button / command?
The Objective
What I’m trying to do is to create an auto fill function so that user do not have to type in the data into form 2 / table 2 by referring to form 1 / table 1.
Hope you guys could help me with this.
:o

Ok, I have a question. It might be a ridiculously simple question. Also, i'm under the impression that I may have to learn some VB, which i'm okay with. I've never really used MS Access, it has sat neglected on my desktop for a number of years and now I am starting to see just how powerful it is. By the way, I'm Jamie, nice to meet you all :) Now, onto the questionWhat i'd like to do is take the following database (for example)field1 = namefield2 = locationfield3 = favourite movieNow, i'd like to generate the following text from this database, for each entryDear <<name>>I once knew a man from <<location>>Was never really much of a <<favourite movie>> fan.Optionally, i'd like it to store the text for each seperately generated document in a file named <<name>>.txt, but that isn't needed urgently.It reminds me of a mail merge I learned to do a few years back in high school using appleworks (I am assuming it was appleworks).Anyway yes, thankyou in advance for any help with this.Jamie

I've had a look through the many topics on text importing, but can't find anything specific to my problem.
One of our suppliers has started offering their catalogue as a CSV file via e-mail. For now, I am saving the file to my computer, and wanting to import it into a database.
the table is a bit awkward, as it has "useless" data in the first field. Here is the beginning of one as an example:
VIP Computer Centre Ltd. Trade Price List. 22 August 2006 3:37 PM
ORDER CODE,PROD GROUP,DESCRIPTION,WTY,BOXED IN,1 OFF,5 OFF,20 OFF,UNIT
7719-C,BAREBONE SYSTEMS,JW MINIQ 430AV INSTANT-ON B/B,0,1,50,49.75,49.25,EACH
I imported the data via the Get External Data feature into a new table. This worked fine. I then changed a couple of values, and re-imported the data, this time selecting to import it to the new table. It came up with an error, saying 295 records were lost due to key violations. I then realised that this only appended the data on the end of the table, which isn't what I want.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish:
The field names are created from the titles in row 2 of the CSV file
The table is updated by importing the latest CSV file, so that any price alterations are changed, and any new products added (but identical data is ignored). If one field is needed as a constant, this would be the ORDER CODE field
Field 2 (PROD GROUP) becomes a combo list box (probably based on another table - so the table contains the categories, e.g. BAREBONE SYSTEMS, and the text from the CSV file is converted to the appropriate ID number)
Is any of this possible? If so, how?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

tbl_TEMP
frm_TEMP
tbl_FINAL
My user will open the database & use frm_TEMP. They will see a record using the form. The data will be in tbl_TEMP at first. My user will check all data, make any changes, then I want them to click a button on the form that will move the corrected record from tbl_TEMP to tbl_FINAL. It will then refresh the form and bring up the next record.
How do I do this? Thanks.

I've got a database for safety accidents/incidents. I've a table for incidents and another for employers with fields:
tablename:tblEmployers, formname:frmEmployers
EmpID
FullName
EmploymentDate
BirthDate
In the Incidents form, i've a button which loads the frmEmployers with datasheet view.
Is it possible, by clicking/dbclicking on specific employer, his data (empid, fullname, etc) to autofill/copy to the same fields in form of incidents and save the record?
I've tried with combobox selection(Employers fullname) and autofield, but record didn't save the autofill data.

I want to extract specific data from a text file and place it in my table.The following is an example of the data:
Display Author="All Saints" Title="On & On" Genre="Pop" Color="7693971" Tag="2"
I want to extract the following:
Where the word Author= appears to extract the data between the double quotes, so in the above case I want to extract "All Saints" excluding the double quotes.And then where Title= appears extract "On & On", again excluding the double quotes.So I would end up with data in my table looking something like this
strArtist [Author] strSong [Title] strGenre [Genre] strYear [Year]
All Saints On & On Pop
America Venture Highway Rock 1972
Amillionsons Misty Blue Pop 2002
my table is name tblMusicList, the fields are:
strArtist
strSong
strGenre
strYear

Here is the import statement I'm using:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, "IT315 Import Specification_txt", _
"IT315", "D:4533 Hires Rehire Status ChangeIT315.txt"
I can manually transfer the data ie thru File --> Get External Data etc but I can't seem to get the above statement to work --- with the same specification!!
The details are in the attached doc file.

First I'm developing in Access 2010. I am struggling with code that is supposed to create a text file and populate it from a query. The Query "cbt_Candidate_Export_Temp" is working fine but I keep getting the error in the second argument:
"Run-time error '3625': The text file specification 'cbtTab' does not exist... "
DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, "cbtTab", "cbt_Candidate_Export_Temp", "denali
bccdatabasesBCCCBT_Export" & strFileName & ".txt", True
What object is "cbtTab"? I didn't write this base code and I can't find it nor do I know how to create "cbtTab" ....

I have a table. Also i have a text file which some of the fields are matching with my table fields ( lets say field A and B ). Now, i need to do compare of these A & B of my table against A & B of the text file and give a result as follows;
1. "Field A" not in the table but in the text file (un-matching data to be shown )
2. "Field A" not in the text file but in the table (un-matching data to be shown )
3. "field B" mismatches

Would it be ok just to make a copy of the BE file (every so often) rather than to make a copy via code?The user can then just paste over the original if it becomes corrupt.

hello once again,
I need to import a text file into an existing table in Access. The text file has been imported once and is working well and everything. However, since I had to change some of the datatypes to be able to query the table correctly, I now cannot import the text file anymore unless I change the datatype of the table itself. Since someone other than I will be doing the imports from here on out, changing the datatypes everytime is out of the question. I was looking at the TransferText event, but I didn't seem to see anything about converting data types. I can think of two options, and neither are probably possible:
1. import using the wizard. Since I didn't see anything related to the types of data, I don't think this will work...
2.import using TransferText. This doesn't seem to give me any opportunity to change the datatypes either. Is there anyway to programmatically change datatypes, or is there possibly an easier way that I'm overlooking??
thanks in advance,
*j

container_nr_no Type time
AAAA1233456 210 12:30
BBBB1222234 45g1 13:30
And I would like to generate a output text file like below:
FLD00101=1
FLD00102=AAAA1233456
FLD00103=210
FLD00104=1230
FLD00201=2
FLD00202=BBBB1222234
FLD00203=45G1
FLD00205=1330
FDL00.... should be generated automatically, starting with 101 for 1st container and 201 for 2nd and so forth. The output should be in vertical manner.

I have a text file linked to this database, and I'm trying to create a Query that will pull all of the data out of this text file, and add a rank if two of the values match in multipe records.So in other words, when multiple records have the same [JOBNBR] , I want to evaluate the [TIMESTAMP] value to see if it is the smallest one, and so on.I don't want to create multiple queries to do this, is there any way to do this? Here's what I have:
Code:
DDR: (Select count(*) from tblMyDataImport Where [tblMyDataImport].[TIMESTAMP] < [TIMESTAMP] AND [tblMyDataImport].[JOBNBR]=[JOBNBR] )
