I have a database and I wish to be able to copy 10 out of about 20 fields into a new record automatically using a command button on a form. Similar to the way the Duplicate button or the Create New button would work but only with these selected fields. None of the fields I wish to duplicate are the primary key. The primary key is an AutoNumber field. After clicking the Save button, the primary key would increment one to confirm the save record.
Is there a copy and replace existing records function in access?
I.e. I would want to copy records from one table to another (with same structure) and replace similar records with in original table in the new records (which have minor ammendments made).
I currently have a database that is missing various pieces of information, we are getting a temp in to complete this. I don't want the temp adding data directly into Access so I have exported the table that needs updating into Excel.
How can I then import the new data without altering current data.
I know this is no problem for new records, but if I have a current record with a few fields of information missing how can I just import information into the blank fields. This can't be a manual process as there are hundreds of records.
I am in the process of building Append Queries for new records, and I know I can do an Update Query to enter specific information. However, how can I update multiple records from a (externally sourced) linked table to fill in blanks of an existing table? I have created a query to identify records with 1 or more matching criteria which contain the blank fields. I now want to update those blank fields. The data in each blank field is different for each record (same type, just different data).
I have this access "Database" that contains only one table that I'm trying to make a form for. I want it to allow the user to enter a value for field A and a value for field B then a list of values for field C (which is the key, so each would be a new record all with the same values for field A and field B). I tried to make a multiple item form but when I click on the new row for field C, fields A and B both disappear.
Disclaimer: I know that the creation of a one table database is a mortal sin but that's what my boss gave me and there are already >8000 records with a million mispelled words, so I don't think there's much I can do to make it a relational database without entering each record in again.
I have a subform for which I want to loop through all the records and then copy one of the fields for each row into another sub form.
I came up with the bellow code but i get an error when I run it.
The error is an "error 438".
Code is at follows and I am copying the field called price:
Do Until Forms![Roll Out - Site Form]![Roll Out - Sign items pick list].EOF [Roll Out - Sign items added].Form![Price] = [Roll Out - Sign items pick list].Form![Price] Forms![Roll Out - Site Form]![Roll Out - Sign items pick list].MoveNext Loop
The underlined part (acCmdRecordsGoToNew) is false part of this code, because it copies the Adress Info to a new record, instead of copying it in the same.
-Is there someone that can help me with this problem, to make the copy-button in the Form run properly?
-Are there other options to achieve te same?
I have put in a attachment, to give you guys a visual example of what I mean.
I've set up security on my database before with great success, and now I'd like to use the same workgroup file (a copy with a new name and location) to secure a nes db.
I open the new db, and join my earlier created mdw file. I'm prompted with that I have joined my workgroupfile.
I then set permissions for each user in the workgroupfile, remove admin rights for the admin user account, and assign admin rights to my own account. I am also the owner of thr db.
I now run the security wizard, and I make no changes to any checkboxes.
This goes nicely, and the wizard closes after making a backup file.
I now want to re-join the system.mdw file, so I don't get prompted with the logon dialog when opening a new db or an unsecured db.
If I now try to start my new secured db by double-clicking on the secured mdb file it opens ?????
We have a program in Access that makes invoices. I am interested in copying one of the invoices to be used as a new invoice..How do I add a 'copy' button?
I have a mainform with 4 fields which are marked with 4 primary keys: soldtoId, shiptoID, PlantId and formulaID. PlantID is a long integer number field and the other 3 are text fields. there is no default values.
I have a subform1 that is linked by PlantID and FormulaID. These 2 field names are in the linked child fields.
I had a handful of records established already. Today, i added a command in the after update section of the PlantID field in mainform by adding Me.Refresh. So when i change the plantID in the mainform, the subform gathers different plantID and formulaID data automatically. works nicely.
Here is the rub. I next tried adding NEW records to the mainform. that's the one with 4 primary fields.
i enter soldtoID and shiptoID fine. they have no refresh need. however, after the enter a PlantID, the me.refresh kicks in before i can get the the formulaID field. i get a debug error. something about a NULL. which i suspect is the formulaID that i didn't get a chance to enter to. FYI, later, i want to put a refresh on formulaID too.
so how can i make some kind of Refresh work for both New and existing records?? penwood
I have a table with employees’ information. I want to copy all records in this table to another existing table “WorkTimes”. I do not want to edit my employee table, so therefore I want to copy all records to another table before editing/adding information in other fields. How I can do that with a macro or module?
I have the employee data record... I want copy of the same record to insert in table but with different employee id and Site through forms. StaffNo is the primary key.
I hava a small dbase in which we store address information. Now you have a visit address, a mailing address and billing adress.
I want to use some buttons which trigger macro's to fill in these "Secondairy" addresses FROM the visit adress.
So a buttun that says: copy billing address from visit address. and then the street, Number, PO box en city will be copied from the visit address to the billing address.
It's probably possible through a macro but I'm having a hard time coming up with the syntax. Or it there an easier way?
I am not sure that I am in the Correct Section for this question but I am sure I can be forgiven for that :
I am attempting to build a db for a friend who has all his data in one table. During normalisation I have seperated the various threads of data into various tables of usable information. My problem is that I need to seperate his clients fullname into First & Surname i.e. Fullname: Mick Burke to FirstName: Mick and Surname: Burke - in other words make two fields from one.
When I built it I gave the MaterialsInventory# a field size of 3 characters, which I soon got to learn (stupid me for not thinking it through) has to be a lot bigger. I have now extended it to 5 characters which should be more than enough. Now, when my list comes up its not organized properly, 123 would com after 12299 for instance and so on.
my question is; how can I make a function/code/something-smart to extend the 123 type values to 00123? This table is linked as well so I guess I'd have to delete the links and do the same for every linked table? I got about 5000+ entries so don't feel like doing this manually:P
I have a table linked to SQL Server 2014. As SQL Server 2014 does not support calculated fields I created a query to use formulas. Now I want to write formulas on the existing fields ( TotalMarks ) of table Not to create new fields.
This has to be an easy one but I can't seem to figure it out. I created a table by importing the structure from a .dbf file. Now I simply want to import other .dbf records from a bunch of .dbf files that have the exact same structure. How do Import these records into my existing table?
This should be a no brainer but I have spent an hour or so searching the help file and the internet.
I have a field called uniqueID which I would like to update based on 2 other fields that are already populated in my recordset (from running previous queries). I heard it is not possible to do an Update Select like shown below.
select max(uniqueID) from myTable where a = "value of field a from first record in record set" and b = "value of field b from first record in record set"
If it is true that I cannot do an Update Select then I am trying to do something in VBA. How can I Loop each row in the record set and store the values from fields a and b. I would obviously then need to pass those values into the sql above and store the result in a variable. I would then do a straight update to put the value of uniqueID into myTable.
In the Lesson tutorial shown above I am clicking on tools and adding existing fields. I get a lot of output label and text box pairs for each field that I add.
However, they are all on right below the other. That is no problem just move them. No way.
Whenever, I move it a label and test box for say Order Status, I get ... nothing. It stays where it is.
They (label and text box) do not move together. So how do I get them to move together.
So, I have two forms that I am trying to make work the same way.
With F1Entry I can use the combo box in the header to select different request numbers.
With F2Finance I cannot do this. It works if I set the Form Record Source to T2FIN, but when I try to Add Existing Field, something about selector combo box breaks and I cannot select different request numbers.
I have table1 in my (Access 2010) database that has exising records. I have another table2 that after I run a query, it first deletes the data in table 2, then imports new records into that table. I run the import into table 2 on a semi regular basis but have yet to copy those records into table 1.
With that said, using either a query or VB, how do I copy all the (new) records from table 2 into table 1 without altering any records that already exist in table1?
BTW, Table 1 has a main form with a subform within it
