Copy Part Of A Record As Value In Another Field

Dec 14, 2006

Im using the UPDATE Query in Access

UPDATE MAT_Clean SET FCODE = 'BC', NOTES = 'HC RAMP'
WHERE FCODE='BC HC RAMP';

Instead of typing what needs to go into NOTES everytime, how can I specify whatever comes after 'BC' to go into NOTES? Use 'BC *'?

Thanks!

Copy Part Of 1 Field To Another

Dec 29, 2005

Hello,

I need to be able to copy the last part of text from 1 field to another.

Speciffically,

yadda yadda (ABC)

to become:

+ field1 + field 2 +
| yadda yadda | (ABC) |

(ABC) is not always of length 3, it could be (XY), (T) or more.

can someone help me with a method to strip this into another field?

thanks!

Modules & VBA :: Copy / Paste Field From Previous Record

Jun 22, 2013

It is a continuous subform (Names: Form = ClientUpdate / Subform = ClientUpdateSub.

All of the data implicated here is direct and in the subform's query table including the button we want to program.

(This is my example but it wont stay in columns in this "post box" )

IDNo App _ID App_Freq App_Date GetDates Action_Date
22 18 56 21-Jun-13 BUTTON 14-Jun-13
21 19 56 16-Aug-13 BUTTON 9-Aug-13

*

The GetDates Command BUTTON should generate the red data above, like:

Private Sub GetDates_Click()

Go to a new record
Go to the field App_Freq and fill it with:
Copy/paste the data from the field of the same name in the previous record
Go to the field App_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation using the PREVIOUS record fields: App_Date + App_Freq (which are days)
Go to the field Action_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation: App_Date (of current record now filled out - step above), minus 7 (days).
End Sub

That's it!

All the dates format is set to medium date. An error message should come up in case App_Freq is empty, for example

Also note that the data can be manually changed at any time and should not revert to its last calculation. The button only generate data into a new record.

Forms :: Copy Record From Previous Field If No Specific Combobox Value

Oct 30, 2013

I have an access form that needs filling in daily by various people.

It's to document changes to a website and I currently have a combobox box set up for the various sections to state whether they are AMENDS, REVERTS or NO CHANGE.

I have set conditional formatting to then highlight these sections but am also trying to get it to work so that if the user chooses "NO CHANGE" then the data for that field copies over from the previous record.

I have set this up in the AfterUpdate code for the combobox, but nothing is happening, not even an error....

Code:
Private Sub COMBOBOX1_AfterUpdate()
If Me.COMBOBOX1 = 3 Then
Me.[FIELD_TO_CHANGE] = DLookup("[FIELD_TO_CHANGE]", "tb_TABLE", "[ID]=Forms![form_FORM]![ID]-1")
End If
End Sub

(Where 3 is the value of NO CHANGE in the combobox, and FIELD_TO_CHANGE, tb_TABLE and form_FORM being the names of the various elements)...

Searching A Part Of Record..

May 27, 2007

Hello. Im new here and also new to both Visual Basic and Access so please be patient with me :)

I've downloaded SearchDB.zip uploaded by agehoops. Its works exactly like its supposed to but I need to update it a bit.

Im making a MovieDatabase and have a table with Orginaltitle, SwedishTitle, Director, Actors and so on. When I search in "Director" for "Francis Ford Coppola" or just "Francis" the movies which is related to him comes up. But when I search for "Ford Coppola" or only "Coppola" nothing comes up. I want the user to have that possibilty to search using the last part of the name too. Is that possible?

When searching with the binocolor icon it works fine when chosing "part of record", i think thats the english translation for "Del av fält". I have a swedish acces version so im not so sure but anyhow I think you understand what I mean.

To sum it up I want the ability to search writing only a part of what the record contain including the last part and not only the first part like it is right now.

Appreciate any help!

SoloJuve

Tricky Question - Form Part Data Entry, Part Not

Dec 16, 2004

I have what I think is a difficult problem to overcome...

I am designing a form to create an invoice. The user will select a workstream and a date range in form frmInvByHrs. Within this I want two sub-forms, one is frmInvByHrsTsht and the other is frmInvByHrsBill. I want the first one to display all the staff and their hours done, and the second one to be in data entry mode where you can enter the hours you want to bill. Each sub-form is based on a separate query.

Is it possible to do this? ie. to have one sub-form in data entry mode, and the other not? It seems to me that the data entry mode is controlled by the MAIN form regardless of the sub-form settings!

If this is not possible, do you know how I can acheive this?

Thanks

Table Fields -to- Part Of A Record

Jul 22, 2005

Hi,
I think I know my way around a database, but my new employer has me doing kart-wheels. There is an Excel sheet of values which I have imported to Access tables, the table contains ledger values on it and the account numbers are in the fields as column headers.

I want to reflect those field values as part of the actual record in a summary query.

I think this can be done with just a few steps without creating more than one table or query???

Please help. :cool:

Tables :: Change Record That Is Part Of Composite Key?

Feb 26, 2015

I am creating a database that tracks the selling of products amongst other things.

The user will enter in an order and may delay invoicing until the customer approves the quote - at which time the order is turned into an invoice.

In the transactions table the OrderID, ProductID and CustomerID constitute a composite key.

I want to be able to view the order and change it by either deleting or adding ordered items (obviously prior to invoicing) but because the ProductID is part of the composite key I cannot delete a line item.

Perhaps the solution is to remove ProductID from the index or is there a better way?

Remove Only Part Of Record Using Unmatched Query?

Aug 13, 2013

I am needing to compare some information in a way I cant with the normal Unmatched Query.

I have 2 tables with the fields:

| PHONE1 | PHONE2 | FIRST | LAST |

What I need to do is have Table 2 check against Table 1 to see if any of the 'PHONE1' records match 'PHONE1' or 'PHONE2,' and if they do have them remove just the information from PHONE1, not the entire record.

Then I would have to repeat the process to do this with PHONE2. Having it check against 'PHONE1' and 'PHONE2' in Table1.

If both PHONE1 and PHONE2 have a match, the entire record would be deleted. If not, it would keep whichever did not match.

I am currently having to do this manually, because if I just run an Unmatched Query it gets rid of the whole record regardless of if PHONE2 is a good number or not.

If any more information is needed, let me know. Like I said, Im relatively new to working in Access and dont know much.

All of the fields are 'TEXT' type.

Access 2003 on Windows XP.

Copy Button In A Form To Copy Fields To Other Fields In The Same Record

Sep 23, 2005

Hi there,

Can someone help me on this issue?

I want to copy Postal Address Information to Visit Address Information wthin the same record, in my Contact Database that I am building at the moment.

I want to copy 4 fields to 4 other fields within the same Record.

This the current code I use for the Copy-button:

---

Private Sub cmdCopyFields_Click()

Dim v1 As Variant
Dim v2 As Variant
Dim v3 As Variant
Dim v4 As Variant

v1 = Me!Field_a.Value
v2 = Me!Field_b.Value
v3 = Me!Field_c.Value
v4 = Me!Field_d.Value

RunCommand acCmdRecordsGoToNew

Me!Field_e = v1
Me!Field_f = v2
Me!Field_g = v3
Me!Field_h = v4

End Sub

---

The underlined part (acCmdRecordsGoToNew) is false part of this code, because it copies the Adress Info to a new record, instead of copying it in the same.

-Is there someone that can help me with this problem, to make the copy-button in the Form run properly?

-Are there other options to achieve te same?

I have put in a attachment, to give you guys a visual example of what I mean.

Thanks in advance,

Quinten

Date Problem - Part Constant - Part Now()

Nov 3, 2006

Hi everyone,

I have refined my query from previous threads to involved a module function. This calculates more acurately no of working days between dates and takes into account a holidays table. (All credit to Arvin Meyer on the module:) )
However because the Leave Year starts at the 1 July and finishes 30 Jun I need to compose the date for any current year Year(Now())

Enclosed scrdmp shows my query design. I can easily get it to work as you see it, but obviously as each year rolls over, the year needs to change.

Have looked at many posts but can't find what I'm looking for. This one will get me over the hurdle.

Many thanks,

Filtering Out Part Of A Field

Apr 7, 2008

Hi,

Apologies, I have no idea if this should go in reports, queries, macros or modules and VBA as I'm a bit stuck but hopefully it's fairly simple.

I've been teaching myself access and it's been going well. What I have now been asked to do is produce a report that generates the shift patterns for everyone in the office as an HTML document. Now, the data is all exported from another program and I've had no problem getting the data into access easily. The problem I have is the format some of the data is in.

The major one that I need to solve is showing what time people are meant to take their lunch break each day. The field for break is filled in in the following format.

07/04/2008 12:45:00

Now, I have the date from elsewhere so I really don't want the date to show up so I need something that removes the date from this field. Is this going to be easy to do? (Ideally I'd like it so that the above example actually just returned 12:45 but if it has the 00 on the end that would not be the end of the world)

Apologies if this is in the wrong part of your forum.

Extracting Part Of A Field

Jul 27, 2005

I found a thread from last year that is close to solving this question but not 100% so I'll post this new thread.

I have a field called ITEM_NUM in a database with the following structure:

XX-YYYYYYYYY
XX-YYYYY
XX-YYYYYYYYYYYY

I need to extract the Y portion of the data and a Query format would be the best.

FYI, the X portion consists of 2 Letters/numbers then the Hyphen and the Y portion is variable in length.

thanks for your help!

How To Select Part Of A Field

I have joined 3 tables using the query design and I have 3 different fileds. There are fields that have information that I don't need. e.g. I don't want the first 10 characters of field 1. How do I do this in query design (even in SQL view). Or do I need to do this in the table itself before joining the table. Hope my question makes sense. Thanks for any input.

Updating A Field With The + As Part Of The Value

Jun 12, 2007

Hi all,
I am trying to update the value of a field from say, "Word" to "Test120+". I am using the SQL code as below....

UPDATE tblTable SET tblTable.Field = "Test120+"
WHERE (((tblTable .Field)="120") AND ((tblCurrent.Field02)="TT"));

But the end results are that the value has been changed to just Test120 !! The plus (+) sign has been excluded. Is there anyway I can force the plus sign to be used in this update query or has Access some sort of bug because the plus sign is used as an arithmetic character that prevents it from being used as a value in a query ?

Any workarounds or advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mitch....

Query On Part Of A Postcode Field

Jul 7, 2005

Hello all!

I have a customer database and I basically want to find out their geographical distribution. To do this I need to run a query that gives me the sum of customers for each postcode, but this is dependent on only the first few characters of the postcodes (or prefix), eg BH3. The length of the prefix varies between 2 characters and 4 characters with one or two characters followed by one or two numbers.

What I don't want to happen for example is to have postcodes counted as BH1 when in fact they are BH13 or to have postcodes coutned as BH13 when they are actually BH1 3LV.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can do this? :confused:

Any help most gratefully received!
