Copying Access Database To Another Computer

Feb 12, 2007

I have a database built using Microsoft Access 97-SR2. I want to copy it to another computer (my office computer). I was successful in burning the file to a CD-R disc. However, when I run the database from the disc, a message appears saying its READ ONLY-it apparently makes it Read Only automatically. I want to be able to change and edit the data and the controls, ie. forms, reports, etc. on the other computer. How can I transfer the database my other computer, without it becoming Read Only?

Any help would be appreciated

Access 2007 / Moving Database To Another Computer?

Nov 18, 2011

I'm using Access 2007 which I built a database that runs queries off of tables using ODBC. The database is all done in ms access, I've used no visual basic programing on it. I'm now trying to move a copy of the database to another computer's local drive in the office. When we try to open it on the other computer it gives me an error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and Access hangs, which I then have to run task manager to end the program.

Specs Are: Windows 7 64bit (the db was created on Windows 7 32bit)

General :: Database Startup Error On Only One Computer

Jul 10, 2013

"The key or key combination ^{Break} in FunctionKey_SubForm has invalid syntax or is not allowed"
- -
The "FunctionKey_SubForm" is a macro in this database.

It only does it on my computer when I opens this specific database.

This database works fine (copied it elsewhere) on everyone elses computer and also when I use it one another computer, whether the database is on the server or on the C: drive.

Since it works fine on all other computers, it's a setting in Access which is throwing up the error (even if it is " invalid syntax or is not allowed"), not the database.

Database works fine after I click through it but it's irritating and I don't recall changing anything.

Computer Hangs Accessing Network Database Files

Oct 6, 2004

And yes I now that's the title of a Knowledge base article, I stole it because it put into words what I can only say in expletives right now.

Basically, well it's all a bit odd.
I got users on the network who, until yesterday, could access some networked databases. Other files from the same source are ok, just Access files.
Today the moment they click (and I mean a single-click) on the icon to open the database...explorer hangs.
You can't open the database from within MS Access either, that hangs too. But you CAN open them up and use them if you can get them copied locally.
Oh yeah, some people (in the same room, on the same VLAN) can access the database, but can't perform any tasks within it.
Databases are a mix of 97 and 2000.
And to make matters worse, it's happening on another server.

I know you're gonna shout virus, but that looks to be a non-starter since I know of no such virus which would affect ONLY Access files and do it on a single click, and secondly The systems check out fine with both Sophos (and our good luck charm AVG) run against them.

Holy Moley! Has anyone ever come accross such a palarva?

HELP! Copying Database Problem

Jun 27, 2005

Hello,
Excuse my inexperience, this is not my field. I am a network administrator and have never dealt with this problem before. I have been assigned the task of transferring a database (used by a security company to manage a gated community) to another system. I had to do this because the home owners association is changing security companies and they old security company is taking their computers with them. Now, I copied over all the files i could find and now that I am trying to set it up, I get the infamous error 3033, "you do not have the necessary permissions". I noticed that there is also a secured.mdw file. All i need to know is how to set up this database on a standalone system so that the new security company can access what they need. Thanks in advance for your help

Problem Copying Database From CD

Mar 19, 2006

I have experienced a problem copying a database from a CDR to the C Drive of a networked machine at work. What happens is that the Database attributes are changed to "Read Only" after being copied. I can change this easily enough but i dont want other users to have the same hassle.

This problem does not occur when i copy the same CDR to my desktop or laptop at home.

Anyone know why this might be?

Prevent Copying Of Database

May 28, 2007

Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas on how I might prevent a database from being copied. I have an application that I have set up with a number a tools to prevent exporting to an empty Access container, and from accessing the database design via the ShiftBypass feature, but the database can still be copied in its entirety. In some situations I would like to be able to add a feature to prevent this. Any suggestions?

Admin Issues When Copying Database To New Network

May 24, 2007

When attempting to open an Access DB that has been transferred from one network to another (via CD and aeroplane!) we are finding that the copy cannot be edited - the access is effectively read only... I believe this has something to do with Workgroup admin rights but this area is all a bit confusing for me. What do I need to do to open the copy up for editing - allowing the recipients to administrate their copy of the DB?

We're using Access 2002.

I have a MS Access table containing Dependent social security numbers but some of the dependents social security numbers are blank.

I have a MS Sql Database that contains a table with most of the missing MS Access table dependents Social Security numbers.

How can I take the Dependents social security number from MS Sql Database and copy/update the MS Access table.

I tried the sql code below created from MS Access and it matches 453 records out of 460 dependent social security numbers but how do I update qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN with the social security number from dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn

Code:

SELECT dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn, qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN
FROM qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN LEFT JOIN dbo_depfile1 ON qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.MemberSSN = dbo_depfile1.dep_ss_nbr
WHERE (((dbo_depfile1.dep_first)=[FirstName]) AND ((dbo_depfile1.dep_last)=[LastName]));

General :: Copying From Excel To Access

Jul 10, 2015

I have a field in a table that we copy the text from an email into so they can be associated with a client. These could be many paragraphs.

All is fine when I copy right from the email in Outlook into the field in Access. The email is copied exactly as it looks.

To make my life "easier" I do multiple at a time by copying the info into Excel and the copying multiple records into the Access table at once. Saves me having to keep searching for what client the record should be attached to.

But when I do this second method the email in the Access field looks like one big long sentence. Kind of makes it difficult to read at a glance.

I copied the data out of the Access field and into word to check if the returns were still there. They were.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with when I copy it into Excel the individual lines are no longer returns but line breaks. And then Access gets confused.

If not, I'll just instead of putting them in Excel I'll put them directly in Access from now on.

Designing An Access Form And Copying To SPSS. Please Help

Aug 10, 2007

Greetings. I have the following problem:

I have a list of about 200 crops on a column, and for each crop I have 6 information (income, amount of land, season, etc.) in the following 6 columns. I have this information for about 100 households in 6 villages.

I am now starting to put these info in the computer, and it is an enourmous task. I thought that one way to do it is design a form in Access, and have one file per village. I then want to analyse the data at the household level for each village, and also analyse the data at the village level (after calculating village averages).

I want to recreate the form I used to interview farmers in Access, but I can't figure out how to make Access automatelly have 7 columns in form view (the first with the name of the crop, the next 6 with the information: income, etc.). The idea is to reproduce as closely as possible the form I used to interview the farmers, so as to facilitate the data-entry.

Does anybody know how to let Access automatically sort all the fields into 7 columns? Of course I can design the form manually (putting each field individually in its right place), but then I have 7 x200 fields to move, and it would take a huge amount of time. I can't believe that Access can't do this automatically, but I can't figure out how.

I then plan to transfer the info for analysis to SPSS. Does anybody foresee a problem?

Do I make sense? If anybody can help, I would be very grateful. This is actually very urgent, because I am going to pay somebody to do it, but I have to tell her how to do it over the week-end. Thank you very much!!

Thanks for any help! This is driving me nuts....

Read/write Issues After Copying An Access .mdb File

Aug 1, 2006

I'm currently creating an interface program for a MS Access database. I've only used Access once in the past but used other DB's a handful of times so I didn't have any trouble getting the general program created. My issue arose when I tried to make it so that the users needing to use the program can just copy the .exe and the .mdb files and use it.

The program doesn't require users to share the database but to store their OWN programs information in their OWN database, so basically each needs to have their own database with the exact same design (but different data). The original plan was to just get them to copy over a near empty .mdb with the design set up and have them slowly create their own dataset with it. However, upon copying these files between my computer and others it ends up allowing my interface program to retrieve data from the DB but not write any new entries to it. All security permission on the file itself are set to allow read/write to everyone so I'm not sure what's causing this. Is there any other security settings I should worry about? Everything I could find within access seemed to be set so that it could be used freely so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. - I apologize if there is already a related topic in existence, I am new to these boards and tried to search beforehand for any information on this topic but came up empty handed so decided to start my own topic about this problem.

Please Help My Computer And Me

Dec 3, 2006

Hi

I don't know ASP at all, and I know very little about the Internet.I do know JavaScript and VB6 among other things, so I am not a complete dummy.
I have a webpage on a webhosting company's ftp (they host asp) and my html file is working, but my asp file won't do anything (should I be calling it with the javascript from my html file?).
What I want to do is make a list of the top 10 players of a game.
My questions:
1. how do i get my asp to display anything?
If I use my winXP IIS I can view ASP files. But from this ftp the computer just asks me if I want to run the file or save it and then opens my interdev program. Please help before I throw this computer out the window and I don't get to see your message.
2. Should my access file be 2.0 or 7.0 or whichever?
3. I use this code (from a tutorial) to connect to a database,
but it doesn't work.
[code]
<%
Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Conn.open "DSNname"
%>
What is DSNname?(In VB6 it is the name of the data control), but there is no such thing here, is it the mdb file name?

I think I will have many more questions but for now I'll stop here.

Thanks
