Counting Fields In Access Tables

Dec 9, 2004

Hi

I am currently creating a report form which only calculates
fields/columns in my main table. However I am currently struggling
counting text fields and checked fields as well as data fields in this
table.

I want it to count all the "yes" checked fields in my main table targeting
another column's data e.g I've got column with Category listed as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Along with this there is a check box to say that a job was completed under cat. 1,
2, 3, 4 or 5.

I have managed to get the formula to cound all checked boxes in the databases,
but what about targeting only say category 1's checked boxes or category 2's checked
boxes. I need to work out %'s from these individual totals as well.

Any suggestions on this would be great!

Counting 2 Columns/fields

Jul 17, 2006

I have been pulling my hair out over a query application and I'm looking for some help...

For instance, I have a table with [PrimaryName], [SecondaryName] and [JobDate]. I want a query that will display if there is more than one occurrence of the same name in either name field on the same date.

If it were just one field I could do this using GROUP BY and HAVING but because I need to check both name fields I'm stumped. I tried a union query but that seems to group multiple occurrences together as one entry.

Any help is appreciated.

Counting Text Fields

Mar 6, 2005

Can anyone tell me how to count (sum) text fields. My current query will search for:

1) Name

2) Ticket Number (ww*, beginning of one type of ticket)

And it works fine except that after running the query I have to manually add up how many of the ww tickets each person wrote. Is there a way to make it change the ww* tickets to a number, like 1, so that it can be added up or to add up by the persons name how many tickets they wrote. I'm using Access 2000.
Thanks

Problem With Counting Text Fields

May 18, 2005

I'm trying to build a query that will count items in a text field.

How do I do this. I know the statement should read something like this - SELECT COUNT([fieldname]) FROM [tablename] WHERE [fieldname]=yes;

Is this statement correct and where do I place it? Does it go in that specific column. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Forms :: Counting How Many Fields Have A Specific Value

Nov 16, 2014

I have 7 combos, which for the most part set the value in another field - however, there are two values in the combo that do not have a value attached - one is AH, the other is SK. I have two textboxes (one for AH, one for SK) that I wish to have a count (preferably running) of how many times each of these values appears in the seven combo boxes.

Queries :: Counting Multiple Yes / No Fields

Apr 26, 2013

I have a table, which is being populated by a number of users. The table has 211 rows (customer field - this is a fixed amount) and there are 5 other columns (information which might or might not be available for that customer) which are all yes/no fields. Each row may could have any combination of ticks in those 5 columns.

I have a form to fill out this information, but now I need to use the data.

I'm trying to create one query which counts how many of each field are populated. I need it to give me the total of each of the "information" columns, and another to give me a list of all of the customers which have at least one of the information columns ticked.

I will also need to be able to see how many customers have all of the information columns ticked, and how many have none.

Counting Month Fields For The Current Year?

Nov 4, 2007

Hiya

This is my first post here, but I've two questions so I'll divide it into two threads.

Normally I can google these to help find the answers but a bit of a loss at this one, probably beginners stuff to some of you.

Heres a link to the database below

http://casp.gamecommunity.co.uk/database.gif

Total count is easy: =Count(tblMain!ID1)

What I want to do is count the amount of records for each individual month of the current year so I don't have to change the year date everytime a new year comes round. As soon as the next year comes around they all reset to 0.

The clever way would be to count the records for the current month -1 current month -2 etc and automatically update the month labels but I think that would be getting a bit comlicated.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Formula Counting Fields In Either Query Or Report

Dec 15, 2004

Hi

I would like to count number of items witin a text field,
but breaking it down identifying the different items within the
text field.

e.g.

Got a field with fruits listed. Now I am identifying the fruit but want
to know how many rotten fruit there was for each specified fruit.

At the moment my query is by date and the fruit including the column
specifying if the fruit is rotten or not. But there is 3 options in the last
column. How can I count this last column to count how many of these
3 options there are for each fruit in my report?

Please let me know if this makes any sense or not otherwise I will try to explain
it a little bit better.

Counting Tables

Feb 27, 2007

Hi,
I am trying to get a count for the # of records in 5 queries by creating the count in one query, but the only way I can do that is if I create 5 additional queries for each count. Is there any way to use multiple count statements in SQL.
Example:
Query Q_Duplicates:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS CNTDup
FROM Q_Duplicates;

Query Table T_FTOR:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS CNTFTOR
FROM T_FTOR;

....& there's an additional 4 other query's that do the same Count...There must be a way to create one query that counts the # of records for each table!
PLeaseeeee Help...

Reports :: Several Fields In Report - Counting Record Values

May 10, 2014

Suppose we have a report that outlines several fields, one field shows the City. In the report, this week, we see 10 records "New York", 8 records "Houston", 7 records "London", 3 records "Paris" and so on.

Next week's report outlines different cities and different number of records. I need to have in the report footer a "recapitulation" , a field that would say :

New York 10
Houston 8
London 7
Paris 3

Total 28

Next week cities and number of records might not be the same, we may have

Tokyo 12
Singapore 14
New York 6
London 7

Can i make my report in that way that it will count the values without using VBA ? I tried the count values option but it counts the overall report, does not take into consideration the different values.

Tables :: Counting Occurrences In 2nd Table

Aug 11, 2013

I am having difficulty in solving a problem in Access 2010 which was a doddle in the Excel version of my database.

Table1 (MailList) has a field 'Member Name' and a new field 'NumberGroups'.
Table 3 (GroupMembers) is a junction table and also has a field 'Member Name'. Records for 'Member Name' are repeated in several 'Groups' within Table 3.

I require to Count the occurrences of 'Member Name; in Table 3 and display them in Table1 'Numbergroups'.

I have written numerous Queries to try to achieve this, but without success. Does it have to be a Query, or can it be achieved entirely within the structure of Table1?

In addition, I need to interrogate the resulting numbers in Table1 'NumberGroup' to determine how many member attends 7,6, 5 etc different Groups. Again this was extremely simple in Excel but I can't crack it in Access.

Adding Fields To A Query That Aren't In The Tables (Access 2003)

Jul 15, 2007

Hi,

My database has 4 tables. Table 1 is assembly line 1 data. Table 2 is the sizes for assembly line 1. Table 3 is assembly line 3 data. Table 4 is the sizes for assembly line 2.

The table data comes from another program - they are reimported regularly and so I cannot change, add or delete fields from these 4 tables.

I have to change tables 2 and 4 to crosstab queries and then create 2 queries that join 1+2, 3+4. That's easy enough, no problem.

But then I have to UNION queries 1+2. While 95% of the fields are the same, the most crucial are not - the sizes. Assembly line 1 has 5 less sizes than assembly line 2. I need ALL of the sizes to show in the combined query.

I need to add these 5 fields without adding them to the tables. I did manage to create a crosstab query that included the missing sizes, but now I have a 1 in those fields where I need a NULL or Zero value.

Does that make sense? Can anybody help me?

Thanks in advance.

Access Form Auto Populated Fields With Linked Tables

Nov 29, 2013

I am really new to Access 2010 as I normally use SQL so im sure this is a very basic question. I have a form where I have linked some sql tables to a table in access so the data gets stored in SQL. The form consists of many fields the basic fields are Policy ID, Name, Office, Month, Dept etc. At the moment users have to fill this in using comboboxes and text boxes but I want to change this so when the user puts in the Policy ID all the other fields are populated ie in the office field it would have a sql query of or something that looksup the office from the policy id that is entered:

SELECT [Office] FROM DBO.DQ
WHERE [Policy_ID]='what is entered into the Policy ID field' and so on.

Also not sure if this works but as I have now linked the tables to SQL does this mean that when a user fills in the information into the form it will then update the SQL table or is this another issue?

Tables :: Modifying MS Access Database - Direct Order Or Placement Of Fields Within Table

Feb 5, 2013

Is it possible to direct the placement/order new of fields when modifying an Ms Access database in code?

I need to modify the schema of an MS Access database via code - but I want to be able to direct the order or placement of the fields within the tables.

For example - if TableOne has 3 fields - Field10, Field20 and Field30.

I would like to be able to add say Field15 between Field10 and Field20 - not just append it to the end of existing fields.

I believe it is possible as you can do it within Ms Access itself. I can use ADO, DAO, ADOX or SQL for that matter - but it seems all of these offer no placement of the field within the table.

Tables :: Auto-Fill Fields Based On Linked Table (Access 2007)

Jan 6, 2015

I understand right off the bat if you're reaction is "don't duplicate data!!" -- mine would be too (don't fret, I know my normalization).

I've linked a table in my db to my Global Address Book in Outlook 2007 and, upon entering an employee number as a new record, would like to verify that the number entered is listed in the GAL and then pull in the associated name and location info.

The key is that I don't want this info to rely on the GAL going forward. For example, if an employee leaves or is no longer listed in the GAL, I don't want to lose the employee info (past data is needed for audit purposes). Note: I will be creating a report later to show if there are discrepancies between the GAL and my table, but that's another story...

So, what would be the best auto-fill options in Access 2007?

Reports :: Counting Test Records From Multiple Tables In One Report?

Apr 22, 2014

I have been trying to create a report to count equipment tested between two dates:

I am using Access 2000 (old I know) and I have 21 different tables with the fields laid out the same. For the moment, I will list five of the tables: Servers, Laptops, Printers, Workstations, and Monitors. The criteria I draw from each table are the fields Model#, Part#, Serial#, Test Date, Retest Date, and Technician.

I can create a report from a query (say laptops). The criteria I is BETWEEN[Enter Start Date]AND[Enter End Date] under the TEST DATE field. Works great! In my report I use =Count(*)&" "&"Unit(s) tested" & "Between "&[Enter Start Date] & " and" & [Enter End Date].

That works great too.

I am trying to create ONE REPORT using ONE Date range and display how many units were tested:

Example:

Units Tested between March 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014

Servers 9
Laptops 23
Workstations 15
Printers 18
Monitors 31

If I can get these five tables, hopefully I can add additional tables to the same report as I need them. I am not savy with VB code, but will give it a go with some direction as to where to put it and how to add to it.
