Counting Records For Specified Time Periods In Multiple Rows
Dec 14, 2004
I have a MS Access database that tracks when packages are received, returned, etc from different agencies. I need to create a query or report that shows how many packages were received, returned, etc PER MONTH, PER AGENCY. I was able to create a query that listed all the "Date Pkg Rec'd" dates for October (Between #10/1/2004# and #10/31/2004#), but I don't want a listing of all of the dates, rather a total of the records within those timeframes PER AGENCY. For example, APHIS 10, FAS 3, etc.
The other problem I have is I need this done across many columns without excluding those records without an October date (for example) in them. For example, I could have a "Date Pkg Rec'd" date in October, but not an October date listed in the "Date Pkg Returned" column.
Basically, I need the simpliest way to generate monthly "record totals" for several fields.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've been struggling with getting a report to simply count records (I don't need any detail other than the counts). Here is what I have:
Table CompressorRoundsT contains these fields (many more actually but these are the ones I care about for this purpose):
Date, Shift, Round
Possible records in the shift field are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the round field has Rnd 1 and Rnd 2.
For each date, I need to count the number of records per shift and per round. For example, the report should show that on June 7th, 1st shift has 14 records for round 1 and 14 records for round 2. Same for 2nd and 3rd shift. I don't need any other details of what the records contain, just the counts.
I've had some success but the layout ends up too spread out because it is including the individual records instead of just showing the counts and it isn't grouping the way I want.
It's a report for management to see how many readings (rounds) were missed in a period of time.

I am new to Access and would be very grateful for some adivce on setting up a query.
The data in the table below comes from a photon counter. Both fields are numbers although TIME actually represents seconds.
I need to be able to group the DATA field by arbitrary TIME periods. e.g. to divide the table up into bins of, say, 8.7 seconds length, showing the total accumulated in the DATA field for each successive period of 8.7 seconds.
The tables are about 300,000 records long.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello,
I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how I should go about designing the table structure for the hours tracking for the database I'm working on. Basically, I have a table with projects (tblProj) that I need to track the number of labor hours worked per month. The problem lies in the fact that each project could have varying time periods, anywhere from less than a year to more than a year and can start and end at any time of the year.
I was thinking of creating a second table (tblProjHours) to store the hours for the project but I'm not sure what the most efficient way of doing this would be. My idea was to create a table as follows:
tblProjHours
ProjHoursID (pk)
ProjID (fk)
BeginDate
EndDate
Month1
Month2
Month3, etc....
I would create a large number of fields/columns, something like Month1 to Month36 just to make sure I have enough months to enter in the hours. This is of course inefficient since some projects would be way shorter than the maximum allowed months set by the table structure and there is always the possibility of surpassing the maximum allowed months based on the table structure. I was wondering if someone had any better ideas on how I should pursue the design. Thanks in advance!

Suppose that you want to make a formula which will calculate time periods based on a given tariff. To be more precise.
Suppose you can "get in" somewhere, entrance is $2.
You are free to stay there, without additional charge, for 5 days.
Then, for the next 5 days, the charge is $1 per day
The next 7 days, the charge is $1.5 per day
Thereafter, $3 per day.
In this scenario, we can make a query, we use datediff function to see the number of days between "gate in" and "gate out".
The problem is that the tariff is not very simple and the query gets to big and difficult to control with lot's of "iif" and may be I need to make more than 4 queries and union select and so on.
I tried to find in the docmd if there is any suitable function that I could use.

I have a table that contains names of employees and the name of awards they received.
tblEmployeeAwards
EmployeeName, AwardName
John,Nobel
John, Pulitzer
Michael, Fulbright
Jane, Nobel
Jane, Fulbright
I would like to know the following:
1. How many employees received more than one award (answer: 2).
2. How many employees who received the Nobel prize also received any second prize (Answer: 2).
3. How many employees who received the Nobel prize also received the Fulbright (answer: 1).

Is there a way to select several rows of records in a datasheet view of a table and delete all of the selected records?
Every time I try to delete more than one record at a time, I get the following message: "The Micorsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."
Then it will let me delete one record out of the selection.
I am the only one in that particular table at the time I am trying to delete the record.
Thanks in advance for your help...

I have been trying to create a report to count equipment tested between two dates:
I am using Access 2000 (old I know) and I have 21 different tables with the fields laid out the same. For the moment, I will list five of the tables: Servers, Laptops, Printers, Workstations, and Monitors. The criteria I draw from each table are the fields Model#, Part#, Serial#, Test Date, Retest Date, and Technician.
I can create a report from a query (say laptops). The criteria I is BETWEEN[Enter Start Date]AND[Enter End Date] under the TEST DATE field. Works great! In my report I use =Count(*)&" "&"Unit(s) tested" & "Between "&[Enter Start Date] & " and" & [Enter End Date].
That works great too.
I am trying to create ONE REPORT using ONE Date range and display how many units were tested:
Example:
Units Tested between March 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014
Servers 9
Laptops 23
Workstations 15
Printers 18
Monitors 31
If I can get these five tables, hopefully I can add additional tables to the same report as I need them. I am not savy with VB code, but will give it a go with some direction as to where to put it and how to add to it.

I'm having trouble finding an entry anywhere about this, although I'm sure I'm not the first person to come across it...
When I am typing my entry into a combobox it begins to autosearch, highlighting the part of the entry that it finds that matches the beginning that I typed in (as a normal combobox does in access).
However, when the entry it finds has multiple periods in it (i.e.: S.T.A.R) it stops searching and does not highlight the remainder of the entry it moved to. I'm not sure that searching is the correct term, which may be why I can't find any information on this, but is there a way to correct this problem?

I am trying to get a total count of rows from a query on my tickets, Each ticket has a date and an ID number
Code:
SELECT tbl_ticket.ticket, tbl_ticket.entrydate, Count(tbl_ticket.[entrydate]) AS [Row Count]
FROM tbl_ticket
GROUP BY tbl_ticket.ticket, tbl_ticket.entrydate
HAVING (((tbl_ticket.entrydate) Between #1/1/2011# And #1/31/2011#));
I am trying to get this query built so I can attach it to a form.
I am trying to get three bits of data from this Query
1 a total count of all the Tickets in a given month
The ticket #'s and their date of entry.
So far this gives me a great list of Tickets and the date they got put in the system, but then for the total count it gives me 1 for each line. Even if some have the same date.

I currently have a table with the following fields:
dtmDateintPressintCycleintProgramintLotysnAxialdtmFStartdtmFFinishdtmPStartdtmPFinishdtmDStartdtmDFinish
How might I go about querying the difference between dtmDFinish and dtmFStart for multiple records?
EX:
09/07/05-1-1-1-5681-NO-12:30-1:00-1:30-2:00-2:30-3:00
09/07/05-1-1-1-5681-NO-3:30-4:00-4:30-5:00-5:30-6:00
09/07/05-1-1-1-5681-NO-6:15-6:45-7:30-8:00-10:30-11:00
Would return two results: difference for 3:30-3:00 = 30 minutes and difference for 6:15-6:00 = 15 minutes
Thanks for your help!

I have a query with about 7500 records that are grouped as follows and sorted by Mtr_Reading
ID Name Event_Start_Time _Hour, Mtr_Reading
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 17 150
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 14 143
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 16 115
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 15 110
2210 XYZ 7/15/2013 13:00 13 100
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 12 100
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 17 150
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 14 147
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 13 113
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 18 110
2210 XYZ 7/16/2013 12:00 15 100
There are about 75 distinct sets of ID's and Names not shown here
The rows were sorted by the Mtr_Readings and we have to take the best four readings out of each group and average them. If a group has more than four rows then the top 4 are taken out and the balance is discarded. If the group has four rows or less all of the rows are taken.
I did try nested select statements and kept getting "invalid argument to function" exceptions.

I have a report due the first of each week in which I need the cases open and cases closed for the previous week, the week two weeks prior and the 2007 and 2006 year to date on two different types of cases. I have a case management table with a field for Type of Case, date assigned and date closed that I uses in my queries. Presently I have two query, one that generates only Type 1 cases from the Case Management Table and another for Type 2. I then use the Type 1 Query in another query that limits the results for Type 1 cases to those opened last week, one for those open two weeks ago, one for 2006 YTD and one for 2007 YTD. In these 4 queries I have one field [Type of Cases] and I have the query count. I then do this for Type 2 cases and then go through the whole process to do Closed Cases. All my queries have criteria to automatically filter the dates to the time periods mentioned above. I then have one report query that I put all the number in for my report. This query has 16 fields with the numbers for each period, last week open and closed, 2 weeks open and closed, etc. I then generated a report that takes these numbers from my report query and puts it in a report format automatically. As you can imagine this takes some time to go through each query to generate these numbers, so I was wondering how I may do this differently. Also, I have experienced a problem when a field produces no records I get a blank sceen with nothing under the Count of column and get the same thing for my report. How can I fix this.

In a situation where I imported an excel file with so many columns and split them into two temp tables and they are linked using a key.
the data has a fixed part lets say
Field1....Field2.....Filed3.....Field4...then Field5.....Field6.....Field7....Field8 is the same data range as Field9...Field10...Field11...Field12. I would want to split this data into multiple rows like this
Field 1 Field2 Field3 Field4 Field5 Field6 Field7 Field8
Field 1 Field2 Field3 Field4 Field9 field10 field11 field12 and so own...
What is the best approach?

Product 1 Product 2 Product 3 Product 4

Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

I have a table, which is being populated by a number of users. The table has 211 rows (customer field - this is a fixed amount) and there are 5 other columns (information which might or might not be available for that customer) which are all yes/no fields. Each row may could have any combination of ticks in those 5 columns.
I have a form to fill out this information, but now I need to use the data.
I'm trying to create one query which counts how many of each field are populated. I need it to give me the total of each of the "information" columns, and another to give me a list of all of the customers which have at least one of the information columns ticked.
I will also need to be able to see how many customers have all of the information columns ticked, and how many have none.

Hi,
I wonder if someone could possibly help me.
I'm working on a database used to dispatch first aiders to events. The general structure is a form detailing the event with a subform (currently pulling info straight from a join table though I may change the data source to a query at a later date) containing details of attendees in list format.
I have a record in the events form that shows the number of first aiders attending which is currently updated manually. In the subform however, there is a tick box as to whether they attended as sometimes they enlist but have to cancel for whatever reason.
I wanted to implement something that will count the ticks and update the number attended field automatically.
I don't know alot about VB and have tried using the count expression function in the subform footer then setting the number attended field to equal the count field. The problem I find with this though is firstly there can sometime be a delay in updating this and secondly I need the number attended to appear in a report listing all the duties attended each month for expense claims.
I may be half way to hitting the mark with what I've tried but if anyone could suggest anything, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance for the help
Ian

Quick overview. I have a site # and Subject #. The subject # is 7 digits and the first 4 are the site # (exp. Site # 1000, Subject # 1000001, 1000002, etc). At times the subjects switch sites but their subject # remains the same so Subject # 1000001 now resides at site # 2000.
How would I write a query like the following?
Count [tbl_Enrollment]![Subject #] WHERE [first 4 digits of the subject #] LIKE [tbl_Site_Dem]![Site #]

Hello everyone,
Got another problem that I'm sure you guys will solve with your eyes closed ;)
I've got a database with a field called courier_no. Imagine this set of data.
1234
1234
1266
1277
1277
1288
1299
I want to run a query to count the number of instances that each number appears. For example I would expect the results
1234 2
1266 1
1277 2
1288 1
1299 1
I then want to run a criteria on the count field (But I think I'm ok with that bit once I've solved the counting of the data.)
I've tried the count function in the query builder but it doesnt total the instances that each record appears.
Help please (and please keep it simple cos you know I struggle with all that VBA stuff :D)

I have a table with two fields: Company, Product_Name
Currently the table is not normalized (which is what i am now trying to change). While the Product_Name are unique, the Company names repeat themselves (one company has several products).
I will like to find out which company has more than 10 products and see the names of these companies in a query.
Can I achieve this simply through SQL? If not, How do I accomplish this with VB?
As always, all assistance is highly appreciated. Thank you.
