Tables :: Connected Views Deliver Incorrect Data

Mar 26, 2014

Front end access 2010, back end SQl-server 2008 R2.I have all talbes and views connected to the server and due to incorrect results I found out, that the views from the server deliver incorrect data.Of course I refreshed the views in the access front end I even deleted them and connected them for new, but the incorrect data, even a different field sequence (!) remain.in a certain field there can be two different values: 1 and 2.

If opening the view I can only see 1, on the server the view shows 1 and 2, in the records, whatever is the value. This is not a calulated field. When checking this in a query in access I can select on value 2 (although I cannot see it!!) and I get the correct records but in the field itself the values still show as 1 !!

Same with other values in other fields. When I take the same SQL from the view in a stored procedure and execute is from access I get the correct data!!On both, view and sp I have the same permissions on the server!why views show incorrect data?

Creating Views To A MS-Access Table

May 9, 2006

Hi all,

I write a program which is querying some data from a MS-Access database.
The problem here is, that the tablenames contain characters like "/" or "-" and I
do not want to change these names, because I think that the database
structure will be damaged.
To solve this problem I thought of creating a view to the table. I tried creating
this with a SQL statement, but that did not work.
Is there any other possibilty to create a view on a MS-Access table?

Regards,
Stefan

Access Report Views A New Column The Same As A New Page?

Jun 22, 2015

I have run a query that reports the following information. I am using Access 2007

Model (Text)
Start Time (Time)
Step (1-5)

I have a report that is grouped by step and I have Force new page selected for this group. So the idea is that each page will show the models and start times for each step on separate pages.

Since the width of what I am showing is not very wide I want two columns so that when there is too much data the data will just continue in the next column rather than create a new page. This way all the information for each step will be contained on one page.

I am running into problems when there isn't enough data for a given step to fill up the entire first column. Access is placing the next data set (Step #2 for example) in the next column rather than on its own page. Does access view a new column as a new page? I thought that selecting "Force new page" for my group would force a new physical page and not just dump the next data set into the next column.

General :: How To Create Forms In Access DB Which Uses Links From Source Files As Its Tables

Sep 7, 2012

I have a client who needs a Database created in Access for him. he would like to regularly auto-populate this Access DB from an Excel file - like twice a week.In addition, he wants me to create Forms, Queries, reports and Macros for him in the Access, which will have 2 Tables from Excel files and about 3 Tables created in Access.I figured that I could do that if I gave him a link to the Tables he needed from the Excel file(s). But how do I work remotely for him- the path to those files is on his computer. I can load them to mine, but then he can't open the files. How can I create Forms etc. in an Access DB which uses links from source files as its Tables?

Saving Different Datasheet Views

Sep 29, 2005

Hi, can someone tell me if there is a way to save several different datasheet views? I have a large database with many fields. I use forms for data entry, but to view the data I use the table datasheet (so I can see multiple records at a glance). But every time I have to manually move, freeze, and hide columns to get the view I want!! Is there a way to save several different datasheet layouts that I can access the view I want with one click? because I am tired of freezing/hiding columns every single time.

Many thanks

Linking To SQL Server 2000 Views?

Jun 8, 2006

In Access can I link to a SQL Server view? I am currently linking to the
SQL Server tables in my database and don't have any views. But if I can link to views I could give the workgroup permissions in Access to the views, not to the primary tables. This would provide some added security from the user who bypasses my switchboard forms and goes to modify the Access tables directly.

Removing Built In Form Views

Jan 25, 2005

I am trying to remove the built in form views from access 97. Is it possible to remove the navigational functions of the form while in view mode (ie first record, previous record, search, next record, and last record)? There is also an arrow bar that has no functionality to it placed at the left side of my forms that I would like to get rid of. Is this possible? Thanks for your help!

Forms :: Two Split Views On The Same Form?

Jan 16, 2015

Is it possible (haven't found a way yet) to have two "split subforms" on a parent form side-by-side? When I try the multiple rows portion of the split view I created as a subform doesn't appear?

Want to have a form when I have search/filter/select record for table 1 (on the left) and table 2 (on the right) with a means in between to create a relationship which has a few parameters.

Online Entry To DB - Views On Flat File (CSV)

Feb 13, 2007

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any experience of writing to an Access database via Web.

Do you think it is feasible, for an online entry form, to have 'customers' input their details or wahtever, then this info is sent to some sort of flat file?CSV is it called?

Then the admin can check these, then import to DB quite easily?

ADP Creates Views And Functions Instead Of Stored Procedures

Mar 16, 2007

Just been upsizing an Access DB. It seems to create views and functions for normal select statements and stored procedures are only created for insert or update statements.
As fas as a recent DBA told me, he said that views should be used sparingly as they are not very efficient. Is this the case?

I also don't see why you would create a function when you could use a stored procedure to so the same SELECT statement(s)?

Script Tables/create Tables?

Jul 18, 2007

I have just been given a txt file with 85 tables and not sure how many fields per table, all different Is there a script I can put this data in to automatically create all these tables and fields?

There must be an easier way to do this than manually create all these tables and fields? I am recieving the data at a late date.

An example of the data I have recieved is:-

ADD TABLE "accounts"
DESCRIPTION "Ratepayer Account Summary"
DUMP-NAME "accounts"

ADD FIELD "subregion" OF "accounts" AS integer
FORMAT "9"
INITIAL "0"
LABEL "SUB-REGION"

ADD FIELD "district" OF "accounts" AS integer
FORMAT "99"
INITIAL "0"
LABEL "DISTRICT"
ORDER 30

ADD FIELD "raterefno" OF "accounts" AS character
FORMAT "9999999999"
INITIAL ""
LABEL "RATE REFNO"
COLUMN-LABEL "RATE REFNO"
ORDER 10

ADD FIELD "type" OF "accounts" AS character
FORMAT "x(2)"
INITIAL ""
LABEL "TYPE"
COLUMN-LABEL "TYPE"
ORDER 60

ADD FIELD "ulacode" OF "accounts" AS integer
FORMAT "99"
INITIAL "0"
LABEL "UNITARY CODE"
ORDER 5

ADD FIELD "exempt" OF "accounts" AS logical
FORMAT "Yes/No"

Tables :: Cannot Create Relationship Between 2 Tables

Sep 9, 2013

I've only just started using Access 2007 at my new job. I've been asked to create a database that will show appointments for all 10 of the employees. I have created a table for the main schedule (where ill put all the data) then one for each of the employees. I've managed to link the tables no problem but it wont let me create and updating relationship. It keeps saying "no unique index found for the referenced field of the primary table". How do I fix this?

I want it to automatically update the date, time, location, customer name and description, if its changed on the main schedule for a certain appointment on the corresponding employees schedule.

Better Way To Create Tables?

Aug 8, 2005

I am developing a database which will track some of my companies clients bonus trips. Basically everyone is going to the same place but folks are of different levels. Level A is a 14 day trip with X number of activities, Level B is a 10 day trip with Y number of activities and so on. The major things I'll have to track are all of their personal information as well as 'Air Travel', 'Hotel Stay', and 'Recreational Activities' information.

I can put all of this information in to one table (tblTraveler), or am I better off with creating tblTraveler holding only personal information and then linking to other tables such as tblAir, tblHotel, and so on? I'm not entirely new to Access, but no pro yet for sure. Only problem with creating one table is that it would have one whole lotta fields. Not sure if it's better developing technique to split everything up.

Also, the only thing I can come up with as a primary key is the people's last names. The client numbers are the same on many of them, so that's the only thing I can come up with. The PK really is only a factor if it's best to create multiple tables for the traveler. At first I thought it was best to split everything, but now I'm seeing less reason to take all of the travelers information and dump in seperate tables since most of the time on the master reports the trip planners want everything lumped together. Perhaps I'm better off just keeping the forms clean and seperate and just one table? The reports will do the rest for me. Any input greatly appreciated.

Create Tables From Another Table

Oct 17, 2005

Hi All

I am trying to create a database for estimating manhours on projects. There is a setup table with two columns: "Project" and "Time Period". The database is supposed to allocate manhours to tasks on projects, which is used in estimating man hour costs and also forecasting labour resource requirements.

For example, say the database is used for "Project X" and "Project Y" projects, with Project X running from Jan to March and Project Y running from Aug to Dec. The setup table would look like this:

PROJECT TIME PERIOD
Project X Jan
Project X Feb
Project X March
Project Y Aug
Project Y Sept
Project Y Oct
Project Y Nov
Project Y Dec

From this table, I need to automatically create a new table for each unique project that allows man power to be allocated to each time period. Following on with the example, there are two unique projects, so two tables
need to be automatically created with column headings as per below:

Project X table:
FUNCTION PERSON JAN FEB MARCH

Project Y table:
FUNCTION PERSON AUG SEPT OCT NOV DEC

"Function" is a description of a role, for example engineer. "Person" is the individual undertaking that role, for example Bob Jane. Then in each time period a number between 0 and 1 would be entered corresponding to how much time (0 is no time, 1 is full time) that person would be spending on that function for that time period. Then the table would be populated with many functions and people in this manner.

So the number of tables automatically created depends on how many unique projects there are in the "Project" field of the setup table. The number of columns in these tables will be atleast two: "Function" and "Person",
plus another column for each time period defined for that project.

Perhaps something can be done with a make-table query, but all I can get that to do is copy data from one table straight into another table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou in advance.

Joey

Create New Record In 2 Tables At Once

Jan 9, 2007

hi everyone,

i think this must be easy but im new and despite reading lots just cant figure it out.
i have 2 tables

job details:

autonumber
customer
location
time

picking list:

autonumber,
equipment1
equipment2
equipment3

both the autonumber are primary and linked in a relationship.
when i create a new record in the job details table i need it to automatically create the coresponding blank line in the picking list table with the same number. If I enter something in the picking list table then it creates the matching number and everything is ok but if i dont then it throws my numbers out.

any idea how to get it to do what i need,
thanks

Trying To Create A Relationship Between Two Tables

Jun 4, 2007

I am a newbie to access and i am working on a project that has two tables
the primary table has for example the following fields:

firstnameID(primary key) data type auto number
Firstname data type text

the second table has for example :
LastnameID(primary key) data type auto number
Lastname data type text
FirstnameID (foreign key)data type number

I created a relationship between the FirstnameID in the primary table and the FirstnameID in the second table ..
My problem is this whenever i try to view the relationship when i open the primary table it don't show the relationship ,
The Field FirstnameID in the secondary field is always Empty the only time the relationship is created is when i manually insert the autonumber that is generated in the FirstnameID field , but i thought that since a link was created then that field would have automatically be inseted with data , am i assuming wrong or am i doing somethingn wrong? how do i get the autonumber to be inserted in the field automatically to create the relationship?
Please Help

Tables :: Can't Create A New Record

Nov 3, 2012

I am unable to create a new record due the the following error "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. " I have looked everything over and can't find how the duplication is occurring. I am pretty sure it is the primary key of a table called Squad, but it's set to autonumber. I have uploaded the database hoping an experienced or fresh set of eyes could spot the problem. The goal of the database is to track squad inventory along with officers assigned to the squads. The main form is generically called "unit_Numbers" which uses "Squad Subform". Everything else seems to work correctly except for creating another squad.

Tables :: Data Lost In Access 2000 Tables With Access 2010

Oct 9, 2012

We have an Access 2000 backend database resides in a network server drive while users connect to the backend tables with a mde file on their computers. All users have Access 2010 and the mde file was converted from the 2000 frontend with Access 2010.

The database have been running for a few weeks but recently users have been complaining about record lost on the backend table. We have also experienced one incident of data corruption where the main table could not be opened. After Compact & Repair, the table could be opened but a few records were showing xxxxx on all the fields and we have to delete and re-enter these records.Would they relate to using 2010 mde converted from 2000 frontend when the backend is still in 2000? I am a little nervous about converting both the frontend and backend to 2010 since I have heard various issues on the new version.
