I have a quick question that could lead into a longer one.
First off, I am trying to associate tests with a course a student is enrolled in. Would it be better to add a column in the courses table and have a comma separated list of all tests associated with each course or would it be better to create a separate table that has a column for the course and another column for the associated test with that course?
If comma separated fields would be better, how would I handle that in forms? How does one parse that field?
The interface being used is a main form with various tabs and a subform on each of these tabs.
There is one field ('max power density') in my database that is calculated using 'Max Rated Power' and 'Cylinder Capacity' however these are in different tables and subforms. The 'max power density' and 'max rated power' are in table and subform 1 but 'cylinder capacity' is in table and subform 2. Is it possible to keep them in separate tables/subforms and still calculate the field?
I have a form, frmSub, that contains the combo box comProducts. I also have two tables, Products and PurchaseDetail. Both tables have the field ProductID.
I want comProducts to create a new record in the Products table, using the input in a field called Product and then to use the value of ProductID to create a new record in the PurchaseDetail table. Ie, so the PurchaseDetail table has a record that links to another record in the Products table via the feild ProductID.
I have 1 table that I duplicated to make 3 tables total. I did this b/c I am trying to create separate columns from the same field and table. The field is Workorder. Each workorder list the workorder number followed by a dash and then code. I am wanting to put all of the workorders with the same code in it's own column.
I have 5 codes that i am searching for. The first column list the workorder and a code (123456789-AD). The second column (123456789-BC). I'm good to this point but my problem occurs next.
The third column i am trying to put 3 types of workorder and it's code in the same column. As follows, (123456789-CD, 123456789-TC, and 123456789-PTC. However, when I do this it takes the results from the 3rd column and applies it to the 3rd column but also the 1st and 2nd column. I tried a UNION query and unless I am doing it incorrectly it does not work.
[General Info] has 2 fields. Name(is a primary Key as well) & Organisation
[Details] has 4 fields. Primary Key, Name, No of products & Type
[Details] is a sub form for [General Info]
It is a one to many relationship. With Name from [General Info] linking to Name from [Details].
I can update via the table directly and [Details] links the name fields automatically. I created a form but the form just cannot register the field automatically and requires the user to type in the Name from [General Info].
I have attached the DB file. Pls help... your help is greatly appreciated!
I'm having multiple problems with my database like things such as -
i'm currently working on the Query 2 - On the Phone database (ignore Query 1) and i want to search for multiple plot numbers preferably in one parameter prompt with a comma to seperate numbers. (this could be a multitude of numbers so i would like to be able to input as many as needed). Also when i do search on this query since the Criteria is a 'Between' Value i would expect everything between the 2 numbers input to show up - but a lot of numbers out of the range show up too - why is this? (The Numbers are like "69 to 136" and they will show up - but 1-69 and 136-170 would too
I would also like to implement the search results from Query 2 into the Form i currently have made but it just opens up a access table when the search is made?
i cannot link my database as it is too big for the server - But here are the Criteria for Query 2:
Plot No - (criteria = Between [Enter First Plot No:] And [Enter Last Plot No:]) Site - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Site:] & "*") Product - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Product:] & "*"
The Query is the one im most concerned about , i can live without a form.
I want to extract the date to append to a date field in a "Calls" table and the comment into a text field in the "Calls" table. Is there a way I can do this via query or code?
So far I have a Multi Select enabled list on which the user selects the serial numbers they want. They then click the "Report" button which will trigger a query based on the selected serial numbers to create a report on those serial numbers.
I have the code for the multi-select list working already. It creates a string of comma separated values that are the serial numbers which are selected in the list. Somehow I need to pass this string to my query so it can use it as a filter.
Here is some of my code:
Code: Option Compare Database Option Explicit Private Sub Form_Current() Dim oItem As Variant Dim bFound As Boolean
[Code] ....
Here's my current query in SQL:
Then finally how to I get the query to execute and create a report based on all of this?
I am using Access 2013 and have created a music inventory database.I have a question about formatting some text in a table. One of my tables has the following fields:
tblArtist Artist ID DVD Number Artist Last Name Artist First Name Artist Full Name
In my form, I want the artist's name to appear like this:
Mozart, Wolfgang Dylan, Bob Beatles Aerosmith
I know how to format the table to do this, and I know how to construct the form for this. To format the name, in the tblArtist table, I use the following expression in the Artist Full Name field:[Artist Last Name] & ", " & [Artist First Name]
If an artist has only one name, such as Aerosmith, I enter it in the Artist Last Name column. Artists such as The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, I just omit "The."When a one-name artist's full name appears in the form, there is a comma after their name.
Is there a simple way to eliminate the comma if there is no text in the Artist First Name column? If so, what is the simplest, easiest, most practical novice-friendly way to do this?
I have a query which displays only the records that match the criteria in the form given before. Now i want to create separate report for each of these records. How should i go about with it? I don't want a seperate form for this purpose, is there any way to do the same with a macro?
I want to be able to take two separate queries to create a 2 line graph. Also to be able to spice the graphs up some. The ones I have done, single line, even seems dull.
I've created a custom ribbon and it works great however I want to create a separate ribbon and attach it to the report. On this particular ribbon, I'd like the export to excel, export to word and print functions to appear ONLY for reports. Not all reports will need to be exported; it depends what the user does. I've created this XML and I'm not receiving any error message. It loads as expected but my group is blank/empty. Still confused.
I have a sales report that I generate each week based on a query, which relies on the input from a combo box on a form. This works great - but I have select each salesperson, one at a time and run their reports separately.
I'd like to have some code that will run through each person on the list, generate their report, create the PDF, and email (or save) the file. From my initial research, it appears I will need to utilize a List Box (vs a combo box), so I can select multiple salespersons for the report.
I've found a few examples of code to use...but a little lost on how to implement. I create a new form with a list box that queries the property table for the list. I then added a button to execute the code, and attempted to add this (with my control and reports names substituted). Getting all sorts of errors -- so not sure I'm on the correct path.

I'm not sure if I've picked the right forum topic for this... It's not a straightforward table question, and I think the only way I can do what I need is with a query of some sort. Apologies if it should have gone in 'Tables'...
The situation is: I'm creating a database (using Access 2003) in which our secretaries can enter exam marks for students. The difficulty is that there are ten papers (exams), each student's exam is marked by at least two examiners and there are at least 6 examiners per paper. Every examiner also marks more than one paper, but doesn't mark all papers.
So, I've got a table with all of the examiners and the papers they're marking and I've got a table with all the students and the papers they're taking. Because we have to enter the marks in such a way that we know both which mark an examiner gave and (obviously) which mark a student received (e.g. so we can look at statistics for each examiner), I thought the best way to do this would be to run a query that created a new table per paper in which the field names would be: Student_ID, <name of examiner 1 for the paper>, <name of examiner 2 for the paper>, <name of examiner 3 for the paper>, etc until the end of the list of examiners for that paper. The student's number would populate the Student_ID field and then the secretaries would enter each examiner's mark in their named field. Like this:
| Student_ID | A.N. Other | J. Blogs | J.Q. Public | Agreed_Mark | 1234A 72 74 73 2345B 65 68 67 3456C 71 73 72 4567D 52 51 52
Listing the name of every examiner (including those who aren't marking that particular paper) isn't an option (and would have to be hard coded into a table in any case, as far as I'm aware, either in a query or in a table design. This is something I'm loathe to do). Ideally, the secretary would be able to press a button on a form and have all the mark entry tables for all the papers created automagically.
The examiners for the different papers change every year, and not every academic marks exams every year, so this data will not remain static. Hard coding a table with examiner names would make more work for the secretaries. (I want to avoid this as all mark entering for all students is done in a single day. This means over 600 students at 3 marks per student [mark 1, mark 2, and final agreed mark] with time to contact examiners with questions... and only 2 secretaries, each of whom deals with a different section of students).
Because of the nature of the marking, it would also make quite a lot of work for the secretaries if we had to cross reference a generic Examiner_1 field with a different examiner for each paper, so the field name really must be the examiner's actual name.
Can anyone help me? I'm happy to do it with either VB or SQL; I'm not a programmer, but I can usually work out what code does even if I can't write it myself. I should be able to adapt anything presented as long as it's complete and doesn't assume that I know the basics. :) I've also got two reference books to hand: _Microsoft Access 2003 Forms, Reports and Queries_ by Paul McFedries and _How to Do Everything with Microsoft Office Access 2003_ by Virginia Anderson.
I have attached a zipped excel workbook to best describe what I'm trying to do. I have table1 and table2 and I'm trying to write a query in access to get the output as shown in the workbook. I'm having hard time getting this right. I would appreciate your help if possible. Tks
I've got a fields called rev code that contain the following values:
field name: 110 131 250 255 258
field value: 7.49 6 11.25 12.11 78
I'm writing a query that pulls from the first two digits of the rev code and need to round off to the nearest dollar so in my query I'll have a column 11 with a value of 7, a column 13 with a value of 6, then I need to take columns 250 255 and 255 add the values together and round off so I get a column 25 with a value of 101.
A list of codes that will be updated monthly, which will be the basis for querying the second table. Approx 100 rows of data.
2. Table Original
A data file obtained from IT where i'll need to sort it to find any codes that are including in Table1. This includes approx ~ 10,000 row of data.
** note, the "BIC" from "Table BIC" can appear in any of the 5 BIC columns in Table Original.
What i need to do is create a query that will:
1. Search the "BIC" from "Table BIC" in all 5 columns of "Table Original".
2. Where it has a hit, it will create new table - for example, the first row of table Original includes the BIC "ABC" in the "BIC 1" column. A query would create table "ABC" and place this whole record (all 8 fields) in new table "ABC". No modification needed.
3. Where two (or more) BIC's from "Table BIC" appear in one record in "Table Original" - the result will only need to be placed in one of the new tables (really doesn't matter which one). For example, Record #4 includes the BIC "ABC" in field "BIC1" and the BIC "DEF" in the field "BIC4". Therefore, a new table would be created (either ABC or DEF) to capture this information.
I am creating a table in access and I would like to color code some of the fields if it is possible. There would be multiple green fields to represent it has usable data, Yellow to represent the data is in process and Red to represent bad data. I do not want to color code fields using queries, forms or reports I want to color code the fields in the tables only.
I am new to MS Access! I have design a database and a form to record the information of customer feedback.
The first thing I want is to search the record from the whole database. Secondly I want to print that searched record. And finally I want to make a Form Reset Button.
I have made a "Clear" button but it is not working correctly and removes the record from the database after saving.
1 table(1): record of people & contact details 1 table(2): list of events with check box's with the names of people from the other table 1 report: listing how many events people have attended.
When I add a new person to table 1 I want a field to be added to table 2 in the form of a checkbox, also when I delete this person I want this field to be deleted in table 2.how to make this an automated process.
Have a Make table query that needs to create (add) several new fields where each field must be numeric design.
Have tried:
Score1: Not Null - does not seem to work (results in a Binary field) Score1: 0 - which does give me the numeric field designation but every field in table contains a 0.
Would like to show Blank field (makes data input easier at a later time) but still have the Numeric designation.
I have a database with a field LNAME with last names preceded by maiden names in parentheses. I would like a query that would update fields (LAST and MAIDEN) with the corresponding data:
Example – LNAME = (Jones) SMITH LAST = SMITH MAIDEN = Jones
I have a form with contact info, which also has a subform with other data on it. The subform is a continuous mode form. If I go to the "New" line (last line) of the continuous form, I can add information, and the records are linked via the customerID field on both the form and subform.
I want to have a button on that subform that says "New" that opens up a different form in a popup. I can do that part just fine, but when I try to enter data onto the popup form, the customerID field does not populate with the ID number of the person on the main form. It defaults to a value of "0".
So, is there a way to link the 2 forms like you can with forms and subforms? Or is there a way to have the customerID field in the popup form just populate based on the other form?
Not sure if this makes sense, but please help if you can. Thanks.
