Create New Record On Form And Subform Simultaneously

Apr 9, 2006

When I click the new record command button which I created I get a new record, but the form has a subform and this starts with no records. How can I program this button to not only create a new record and the form to which it relates, but also to create a new record on the subform contained within it as well??

Forms :: Create A New Record In Multiple Tables Simultaneously Using One Form

Nov 17, 2014

I currently have a pharmaceutical lot database set up in the following format:

MFGData (table w/Manufacturing Info)
QAData (table w/ Quality Assurance Info)
QCData (table w/ Quality Control Info)
PASData (table w/ Process & Analytical Science Info)
SCData (table w/ Supply Chain Info)

[Code] ....

Each table has a corresponding form for data entry in each area. The tables were subdivided in this way in order to limit each department's ability to edit the data of other departments. The only field common to each table is the drug lot number, or "Lot #" (which is the primary key of each table).

I wanted to make it so that when Manufacturing enters a new lot number on frmMFGData, it automatically creates that lot number in the other 4 tables. This process mirrors our actual real world business process, where drugs are manufactured and assigned new lot numbers by our manufacturing team, and then other departments simply reference those numbers when doing their part.

To accomplish this, I went ahead and set up 1 to 1 relationships between the various tables using their "Lot #" fields, establishing referential integrity and enabling cascading updates. However, when I attempted to enter a new lot number into frmMFGData (the manufacturing form), it didn't seem to appear in any of the other tables. If I edit an existing lot number and change it to something else, the change does carry over to the other tables, so I know that the cascading updates are working in some capacity.

If cascading updates cannot "cascade" new records, then is there any other way to accomplish this?

Create Multiple Records / Fields Simultaneously

Jul 13, 2012

I am extremely handicapped in Access 2010. I am currently trying to create a database for a small company I am interning in. One of the things I would like to do is to update or create multiple fields in different tables simultaneously.

To explain, I have two tables, Production Activity in CY 2012 and Production Activity in $ 2012. Both tables have a field "Date of Activity." In addition to some other fields, Production Activity in CY has a field "Actual Production in CY" and Production Activity in $ has a field "Actual Production in $".

Now I had initially created two forms, each dedicated to one table, however my supervisor wants to use only one form to update both fields.

I also want to know how can I connect/link both of the Date of Activity so that if one changes, the other one changes too. And when I run queries, both "Date of Activity" fields should appear as one (when I want to run query of let's say the maximum or minimum production each month).

Jun 7, 2013

I've got a hopefully an easy question - how to create a form filter? I've got a form with a subform. Form is showing all records from a table, but some records on the subform are blank. I want to create a filter which will eliminate any record from the form where there is nothing to show in the subform.

Forms :: Create New Record In Form - How To Requery Subform To Link Properly

Apr 2, 2013

I have a form (frmAddManifest) with a subform (subfrmManifestTransporters).

When creating a new record, I can enter data into frmAddManifest, but the subform doesn't update to link with the record - I presume it's because the record from the main form hasn't been completed yet.

Is there a way to requery the form and/or subform so it stays on the record I was working on, and link the subform properly?

Create A Combo To Fetch Record In A Subform

Jan 23, 2012

I Created three tables: 1. students, 2. subjects, 3. Marks. The Students table have a unique code for each student, with field name as StudentID, so the Students table contains fields:

a) StudentID a unique code for each student.
FirstName
Address
Phone

b) The Subjects table will have fields:
SubjectID a unique code for each subject.
Subject full title of the subject

c) The Grades table have just three fields:
StudentID a code that ties this entry to a student in the Students table
SubjectID a code that ties this entry to a subject in the Subjects table
Grade the mark this student achieved in this subject.

After creating the three tables, Margaret needs to create a link between them. In Access 2007 and 2010,

Relationships is on the Database Tools ribbon. In Access 95 - 2003, Relationships is on the Tools menu (or the Edit menu in Access 1 -2.) "Grades" will be the "related table" in relationships with both the other tables.

Now I could enter all the students in the Students table, with the unique StudentID for each. I enter all the subjects in the Subjects table, each with a SubjectID. Then at the end of term when the marks are ready, I could enter them in the Grades table.

To enter marks, I created a form, using the "Form/Subform" wizard: "Subjects" is the source for the main form, and "Grades" is the source for the subform. Now with the appropriate subject in the main form, and adds each StudentID and Grade in the subform.

The grades were entered by subject, However to view them by student. I created another form/subform, with the main form reading its data from the Students table, and the subform from the Grades table. Since I used StudentID when entering grades in the previous form, Access linked this code to the one in the new main form, and automatically displays all the subjects and grades for the student in the main form.

Now I would like to create a combo search field in the Header or anywhere in the main form to find the record based on StudentID in the Subform.

Modules & VBA :: Unable To Create Duplicate Record On Subform

Nov 29, 2013

I am trying to create duplicate records from a main form frmManagers which has a subform frmSubMeasure. I have placed the duplicate button on the main form. It creates a duplicate of the main form data and gives me the option to add new record to the sub. I want the duplicate to be created on the sub form for me to just edit the scores.

I don't know how to pass the sub form data to be duplicated I thought the append query which I used would update the tblSubMeasure table which created the subform frmSubMeasure.
In the sub the append query do update the form with the new MeasureID from the mainform and the form is available to enter new data. I want the subform data to be duplicated as well

In the query I included all the fields from the tblSubMeasure table and this is appended to the same table tblSubMeasure and I place a tag on the MeasureID using "[Forms]![frmManagers].[Tag]"

Code:
Private Sub btnDuplicate_Click()
Dim dbs As DAO.Database, Rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim F As Form
'Return Database variable pointing to current database.
Set dbs = CurrentDb
Set Rst = Me.RecordsetClone

[Code] .....

Reports :: Create Report Containing Data From Main Form And Subform

Jan 12, 2015

I'm trying to create a report that contains data from a "main" form and a subform. However, I can't get the main form data to populate no matter what I try. I've been through all sorts of queries and just can't get it to work. The main form and subform are both separate tables, and there are no redundant fields.

Basically, the main form is an inventory of assets, and the subform is designed as a way to submit trouble tickets when one of those assets requires maintenance or repair.

Create Record With VBA, Edit With Form

Mar 11, 2008

I have the following code on a combo box in a form that creates a new record in the table Products if it doesn't already exist:

Code:Private Sub comProduct_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer) Dim strSQL As String 'Exit this sub if the combo box is cleared If NewData = "" Then Exit Sub strSQL = "Insert Into Products ([Product]) " & _"values ('" & NewData & "');" CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError Response = acDataErrAdded End Sub

It creates a new record and inputs the appropriate value into the Product field, however then it goes to the next record and when I try to edit other fields, it does so on a new record.

So, for example, I wanted to set the Product field to ProductA and the Brand field to BrandB and the Size field to 200, it produces two separate records like this (code box used for formatting):

Code:Product | Brand | Size |ProductA BrandB 200

Open Record In Main Form By Clicking Record ID In Subform

Dec 16, 2014

I am creating an events database. In my main form, I have all the details of a single event (billing code, fees, customer, support personnel, etc.). Then, I have a subform (form view) that lists each of the other services which share an event ID (this ID comes from a separate, unrelated events management suite). In the subform, I display the most-commonly-edited fields so that they are editable without navigating to a different record.

However, there will be instances where it becomes necessary to navigate to one of the records listed in the subform. I would like to make this a quick process by just clicking on the primary key in the subform, and have the corresponding record appear in the main form.

In my searches I've found a common suggestion to use a DoCmd.OpenForm method where the form opens to that specific record -- in effect filtering by the primary key number. I don't prefer this method because it disables the ability to navigate to other records using the previous, next, find records, (etc.) buttons without closing and re-opening the form.

Is there a way to make the main form 'jump' to a specific record by clicking on a control in the subform, without limiting the ability to navigate in the main form?

Linking Form To Search Or Create New Record

Mar 16, 2005

I have uploaded an example of my database

As you can see there are two tables and two forms.
What i want is for a user to view or enter data for a record on the first form.
And then when they are done they click the button to open up form2.
What i want to happen is for the company name/id from the record in form1 to be searched for when form2 opens and to display only the data for that record when opened. If no data exists for that record in form2/table2 then for it too create a record for that company when form2 is opened from form1

hope this makes sense and you can help

Please note this is just an example so if there is wrong naming conventions and such please ignore if there is as i just wanted to display quickly what i want to acheive

Simple: Create A New Record, Update Old Form

Apr 12, 2005

Hi... I searched quick, didn't find anythign, but you guys are so responsive... :D

Question:
Part 1. On TimeSheet form, I want to click to "create new job", and the Jobs Form opens, at a new record. Currently it opens at record 1.

Part 2. I foresee that when I return from the modal job form, the old form (timesheet) would not have updated the combobox to show the jobname I just entered.

I guess this is what subforms are, because I keep reading about them, but dunno what they are.

Thanks

Create A New Record, Opening A Form Based On The Key Field

Jan 28, 2005

I seem to need some help!
I have a table with customer information in it ie: name, vehicle, (Key=Id number)...
it is the master link to the repair table ie: mileage, (Key=ROnumber), and repair data..
these two work together beautifull
now I need to add another table, a check sheet for checking over a vehicle.
I create the table and the form however I cannot open a new form with the ROnumber from the second already open form into the newly open form.
(the second form is based on a Query, and I have tried changing it to a SQL statement both with no luck)
is there an example of what I need to be doing to link the ROnumber to the ROnumber in the new form, or create the ROnumber so it will add the data in the linked table?
I need this to open using a button on the open repair form

Basically it is a work-order entry issue, the user scrolls through to find the correct piece of equipment when they do they click on "Create work-order" a work order is created and populated and the user can then fine tune the new work-order as required.
