Creating An Input Field In An Update Query
Oct 29, 2007
My form contains the field Bill_Date, which may or may not be input during data entry. What I need is to run a query (I think) that allows me to input a specific date that will automatically populate all Bill_Date fields that are currently null with the date specified. Eventually this will end up on the front end where a biller will click on a link when they open the db, input the date into the field, and then process another report.
I have absolutely no idea how to even begin and was not able to locate any specific information in Help or here on the forum.
Many thanks.

Is there an easy way to get user input like the parameter value box in an update query, where you want the user to specify the table name and field name to run the query on?

I am hoping to create a field name in a query that will change every month. Right now the filed name is qryTechQuintileMonth-7.am_quintile. this designates that the data is for October 2012. There are 6 other fields named similarly for Nov 2012 through April 2013.
Is there a way to name these fields with the proper month-year (mmm-yy) so they automatically update each month?

I would like to know is there a way to create a mask on a form for a currency field? I don't want a user to be able to enter in like 125.145. I just want to make it so that people can only type in 125.14. Or how can I write VB code to give a warning when a user enter in more than two decimal places.
Many thanks.

I exported about 190,000 records (about half of all records in the table) from Access DB to Excel. I then updated two fields (that were previously blank on the database) on the Excel sheet with values. What is the easiest way to import these new values back into the database table so that the records receive their respective values?

i have this problem that is bugging the crud out of me:
sql="UPDATE bedrifter SET pr=" & Request.Form("pr") & ",totalindexedpages=" & Request.Form("tip") & ",totalinboundlinks=" & Request.Form("til") & ",description='" & Request.Form("dsc") & "' WHERE created='" & Request.Form("ts") & "'"
conn.Open connStr
conn.Execute(sql)
conn.close()
Set conn = nothing
when i run this code it updates the correct record (line in my access db) but then it also adds a new line with only that info in the update query. why is it doing this? when i update using the ID instead of using the timestamp in the WHERE clause it works fine. really frustrated...

Hello,
I need to create a field in an input form that is simply the concatenation of two other text fields. I have tried all sorts of things, but when I look at the data in the table that field.
I have a field called ID that I want to be created like this:
=Format([UniqueID],"00000") & "-" & [Mosque]
This works well in my output fields, but does not work the same way on the input form. It needs to be based on the currently input values from the current record. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
--Robert

Please could somebody point me in the right direction of code.
I have a database which I would like to query using a form with a combobox or two, each of which containing a list of eg. Customer Names, or Reference Numbers, which will then produce a report which can be printed out.
I know basic ADO, like get the database, open it, find records, update and delete records, however I have been unsuccesfully searching for the code to open a report, which will respond to certain sql parameters that correspond with the values in the combobox. And then be able to print that report if possible.
I would be much appreciative if anyone would point me in the right direction,
Thanks!!

How do I use a update sql query to update a field based on a string from an input box. Heres what i have been trying:
Code:
Dim NETWORKBOX As String
NETWORKBOX = InputBox("NETWORK TO IMPORT" & Chr(10) & "EXAMPLE: PRIMARY", "NETOWRK TYPE")
sql = "UPDATE " & TABLENAME & " SET NETWORK = " & NETWORKBOX & " ;"
DoCmd.RunSQL sql
If i run the code and input 'PRIMARY' in the NETWORKBOX the sql query will return an 'enter parameter value dialog box' with the word 'PRIMARY' above the input field.

However, some input are not in the query list, if I input data directly to the field, ACCESS complained I must choose item from the query result. I am fairly new to Access and my "changed" position at work requires that I learn much more about the software. My first challenge is to learn how to make an existing form prompt a user to confirm or cancel changes. I don't know anything about coding but I searched online and found some coded that is supposed to make this happen. I went to "form properties'' and typed this (below) in BeforeUpdate:
'If the form data has changed a message is shown asking if
'the changes should be saved. If the answer is no then
'the changes are undone
On Error GoTo BeforeUpdate_Error
[Code] ....
BeforeUpdate_Exit:
Exit Sub
BeforeUpdate_Error:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume BeforeUpdate_Exit
After saving changes to the design, I tested by changing the record. I received no prompt.

I always have a problem with input forms in Access in that I usually end up with an empty excess record which is being created because I do not know how to program this correctly.
I have a Purchase Order Receipt form (frmPurchase). When I receive a certain quantity of an article associated with a lot number (or a serial number) I have another input form opening up (frmLotorSerial), passing to it through Openargs, the article and the quantity received.
Say we receive 10 units of which we want to register the serial number, I want the user to be able to enter a maximum of 10 units (could be 10 records if each record = 1 serial number, but it could be less than 10 if we have several units per lot number), and not one more, into this frmLotorSerial.
The record looks like this:
-key
-artno (article)
-recqty (quantity received)
-date
-warehouse
-lot number
I used the lost_focus event on lot number to check whether the total received quantity in this form matches the total passed to it from the Purchase form, and if it does to stop the input. Since I could not close the window in the code of this event (error 2585) I moved the close command to the current event of the form.
Doing this closes the form all right, but it always creates one record extra, which of course does not carry any information, apart from the date which has a default value of now.
How should I program/what events should I use to:
-test that the user should not go any further (total received in frmLotorSerial = total received in frmPurchase)
-close the window and, above all, not create this extra record.

I am currently creating a form to input new return parts into a database. I am trying to automatically generate a tracking number (##-AA-####-####). I have gotten myself to generate the ##-AA-#### in a list box and almost was able to generate the sequence number, 0001, 0002, etc. using the dmax function. I would like to generate the sequence number one higher than the highest, depending on part type and last 4 digits of part number. Our parts have unique last 4 different p/n but more than one can fall under the same type.

I create a query in access 2010 to merge into a word template.
It all works fine but I can't seem to get the contents (a graphics image - signature) into the query file.
Not sure what to reference for the attachment field when I'm creating the query.

way to merge various fields from a table into just one using a query.The purpose will be for easier copying and pasting in to an email.So we have a table to stores information such as Site Contact, Address 1, Address 2, Address 3, Postcode etc.
I want to be able to run a query that will put the address in to just one box, either in the query or on a report then it's much easier to just highlight the full address and copy and paste it into an email. Rather than copying each field individually.

I have 3 peices of data that I am working with: Group number, plans and benefit elections. On my form I have fields for the group number and plan and 2 queries. When I enter a group number the first query displays a list of plan descriptions for that group. From there I can enter the plan description into the form's plan field and that runs the second query to give me a list of valid elections for that plan. This all works fine but I want to make the plan selection a little less tedious. What I would like is to be able to double click the query field housing the plan description and have it copied to the form's plan field. I could use the ID instead of the plan description but I work in a production environment and very key stroke counts so I would really like to have a simple double click process.
Is this even possible? If so how would I set that up? I tried using the double click on event macro builder but it does not seem to have this kind of option.
My form contains fields for group number and Plan. The same form houses 2 querys, one that pulls plans based on the group number and the other to pull elections based on the plan field (not the plan query). Would like to double click a plan within the plan query and have that description populated into the form's plan field.

I have a form in my front end database that is supposed to allow a user to search for a record based on account number and then make changes to the that record and for it to save in the back end database. I have the search function working where it populates different input boxes on the form with what is stored in the back end database but I cannot get the update function to work. I have tried to assign each input box with a variable and then run an Update SQL function to update each of the fields but the updates are not storing. Any example of a successful update statement that uses VBA variables in it or a way to update a specific record via a recordset type function?
