I have a query that runs just fine and takes about 1 minute to run on average. I have vba code that uses Dlookup to determine if the query returns any records. The problem is that each time it runs it has to crunch all the data, all I care about is if there is any result at all. Is there a way to get the query to stop after it finds one record to speed things up greatly?
I wrote the code below in a module. The text box that this part of the code is getting its value from has a DLookup in its control source. The problem is that when the DLookup does not match the criteria it looks for, it returns Null. The code tries to assign Null to a variable of type currency and that returns an error. Is there anyway to convert the Null to 0?
All the function: Public Function CalculateDepositPlusVO() Dim vAgreedPrice As Currency Dim vtxtTotalVO As Currency Dim vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO As Currency
Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![AgreedPrice].SetFocus vAgreedPrice = Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![AgreedPrice].Text Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtTotalVO].SetFocus vtxtTotalVO = Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtTotalVO].Text vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO = vAgreedPrice + vtxtTotalVO Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtAgreedPricePlusVO].SetFocus Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtAgreedPricePlusVO].Text = vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO End Function
I have a table, PURCHASE_ITEMS with 3 fields: ID, TYPE, NAME Another table, ITEM_TYPES with 2 fields: ID, TYPE
TYPE in both tables is a text field and there is a one-to-many relationship between them.
When I run a query on PURCHASE_ITEMS, I can see all 25 records. When I set a criteria for TYPE to one of the types, no records appear, even though there are 5 or 6 of that type.
Can anyone help me with this absurdly simple problem that I can't seem to get my brain around?
I hope this doesn't sound too simple for this forum, I'm only a newbie! I have a select query that will display the recordset that meets the criteria (OK I know that's not a big deal) but...I want to know if, when there are no records that meet the criteria, can I open a form (dialog box maybe) that will say there are no records found instead of showing a blank recordset. Once again I hope this is not so blindingly obvious that I have to start watching my coffee intake
I have a file that I want to import on a daily basis and append to an existing table in my database. The date changes each day. I want to create a query that checks to see if the date (of the first record) already exists before I import and append the new file. If it does, I want to show a message saying something to the effect of "This file has already been imported".
I have 3 text boxes on a form each of which gets their values from different queries using DLookup this is functional but only when I click on the text box its self, I have tried using the "On load" & "On current" to requery the textbox (Text38 as control name) but no luck,, another strange thing i've noticed, when I have the form open in access and i click on my taskbar, thus switching windows from access to the desktop but keeping access in view, all text boxes are calculated immediately.
I have a form that consist of many fields that the user needs to manually input data. 3 fields on that form are the criteria i need to determine which pricing to use back on the table. The first field, which name is LTYPE, is a combobox that the user needs to choose as its type (i.e 500,501,600,700). The second field, which name is EastCoast, is a checkbox (Yes/No) that tells me if it's East Coast (East = yes and West = No). The third field, which name is NewRenewal, is a combobox that the user chooses NEW or Renewal).
Example 1, if the user chooses type 501, checkbox is YES for East, Product is NEW. Then the pricing is $4,100
Example 2, if the user chooses type 700, checkbox is unchecked for NO (which is West), Product is Renewal. Then pricing is $3,300
I would like the unbound field to auto determine the pricing based on the 3 criterias chosen. I read around the forums that Dlookup would be the function for this, however, i tried many times but it did not work.
A have a report that is based on a query that works fine when the query returns records.
However if the query (legitimately) returns no records then the report fields (numeric) are blank.
How can i get the query or report to show either "0" or "no data" when no records are returned? I have tried the NZ function but that didn't work so i don't think that is the right approach here?
I have a tabbed navigation form. I have a form on one of the tabs, [tab1frm] that a query that consists of 6 fields that are each from a different query.as the record source. This shows a percentage field, an image field, and a count field for current month and then then the same fields for year-to-date.
The problem is that when there are no records for the current month, the whole form [tab1frm] is blank. I read that if no records are returned this can happen, but since there are always records returned for year-to-date, I don't know why its happening. Is there any way to make blank fields show up or to show the most recent records so the form is never blank?
I realise this issue is a common one and it is usually down to simple typos (I've looked at several similar posts) but none of the advice I've seen has solved my problem. I've designed the following Union Query:
SELECT [Email],[Title],[First_Name],[Last_Name],[Company],[Phone],[Country],[TEST_AND_MEASUR],[REC_AND_PROD],[LOG_AND_TRANSC] FROM [Region 1]
UNION ALL SELECT [Email],[Title],[First_Name],[Last_Name],[Company],[Phone],[Country],[TEST_AND_MEASUR],[REC_AND_PROD],[LOG_AND_TRANSC] FROM [Region 2]
UNION ALL SELECT [Email],[Title],[First_Name],[Last_Name],[Company],[Phone],[Country],[TEST_AND_MEASUR],[REC_AND_PROD],[LOG_AND_TRANSC] FROM [Region 3];
It should be very simple and I've checked it over and over, but when I run the query an Enter Parameter dialog appears prompting me to enter Email.
If I just click OK I get all the records but with the email field blank.
Similarly if I type x@y.com it returns all records but with the email fields all containing x@y.com
Advice would be very much appreciated!! Thank you in advance.
I'm trying to write record set contents to excel. My query runs perfect in access query wizard, but recordset showing as null. My VBA code
Code:
Dim cnn As ADODB.Connection Dim recordst As ADODB.Recordset Dim strSQL As String Dim strPath As String Dim appXL As Excel.Application Dim wb As Excel.Workbook
I have a complex database app that has a form called from the main form. It requires two inputs: BeginningDate and EndingDate and I use a calendar picker for date selection. Using data assigned to a variable, I build the SQL query in VBA. The result is:
Code: SELECT [1733_All Print Orders].[Application], Sum([1733_All Print Orders].[TotalImages]) AS SumOfCCPC FROM [1733_All Print Orders] WHERE [Application] = 'CCPC' AND [StatementDate] >= #9/3/2013# AND [StatementDate] <= #9/30/2013# GROUP BY [1733_All Print Orders];[Application]
[1733_All Print Orders] is a defined query that combines 4 tables together and there are data that falls within the dates for CCPC. But the query returns no records.
I pasted the query to the query builder and using different combinations, I isolated that the [StatementDate] >= #9/3/2013# portion is what returns no records
To complicate matters even worse, prior to today, it worked. I made some adds and changes to another area of the application, but did not touch this code.

I want to create a query that checks to see if the date (of the first record) already exists before I import and append the new file. SELECT tbl_Visits.vst_VisitDate, tbl_Visits.vst_Complaint, tbl_Visits.vst_Diagnosis FROM tbl_Visits WHERE (((tbl_Visits.vst_Complaint) Like "*asthma*")) OR (((tbl_Visits.vst_Diagnosis) Like "*asthma*"));
returns records with no occurrences of asthma. about 4 of 638 hits.
I have two tables with compatible data. Table 1 has 23 records and table 2 has 5 records. I am trying to make a "make Table". But instead of a table with a combined 28 results, I get 115.
I import data through different files into a table, the data comes in different formats. I have a problem sometimes some records have double quotation marks and carriage returns. I know how to replace them as
Carriage Returns
Replace([FieldName],Chr(13) & Chr(10),""
Double Quotation Marks
Replace([FieldName],Chr(34),""
But if i want to use an iif statement because in the field there could be a Double Quotation Mark or Carriage return then it does not find the record
iif([FieldName] like Chr(34),Replace([FieldName],Chr(34),"",[FieldName])
I have a form that shows employee license information. I also have a query & form based on that query to show licenses currently suspended. I would like to on my employees form to flash "license suspended" label if their name/record id is on the license suspension query. For all employees whose license isn't suspensed I would don't want anything to show. I can get the label to flash and to appear. I just need help evaluating the query and comparing it to the current record. Example I
if me.id = queryname.id then....execute label flashing, etc.
I have three tables for an event registration database based on Microsoft’s Event Registration template. The main tables are “Attendees”, “Registrations” and “Events”. “Registrations” is a swing table. Is there any way of creating a query to determine which attendees have not registered for a specific event? I have included a graphic of the table layout. I sure would appreciate some help on this. Thanks.
Im using square bracketed parameters in my query designs for user prompts. Now I want a similar feature to tell the query what field I want it to show. Is there a way of doing this please? - or does the fact I need to do imply a db design flaw?
I am making a query and I need to be able to determine if two number fields are with in 2.5% of each other. How would be the best way to go about doing this. I have two distances and I need to display them if there is a differenece of greater than 2.5% in them.
I have a field on a report which I am struggling to produce the right query for.
I have a table - tblTillDept which consists of a 4 fields. The first is the PK, which is the number of a till department. The second - fourth fields are names of 3 different branches of the small garden centre I am writing the database for. The values in these fields are the names of the corresponding departments. Not every branch has exactly the same name for each field.
Prior to the report being is run, a small form, frmCentre pops up asking the user to select the Centre they are printing the labels for. They select the name of the branch from a combo box (cboCentre) bound to a field list of tblTillDept. When the report is formatted, the intention is that the value of this combo box selects the field from which the value for the department is taken. I can see that I need to set the control source of this property to some sort of query, but I can't quite work out how to do it.
I've uploaded the database, written in Access 2000, here (http://www.moppy.co.uk/plants.mdb) as it's too big to post as an attachment.
