Database Check?... Can Someone Take A Quick Look Please?

Hey guys,
I'm having two small issues with my database. The first is, I can't get my drop-down to display content on the Form "frmSearch" under "Cast".

And the second, not really a problem, more of an inquiry... on the same form, is there a way to set a default value in the "released before..." and "released after..." of "(enter year - xxxx)" and have that value not interfere with the search feature if it is left as default?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm very new to database creation and an eager to learn about these things. Thank you!

Quick-save Database To Read-only

Does anybody know if there is a quick way of making a database read-only (so no data input OR design priviledges).

Ive had a request to send somebody a database so they can look at the data but not add/amend etc. The only thing I can think of is adding a security workgroup and assigning read only permissions. But this seems a bit long-winded and I wondered if I was missing something obvious like a 'save as - read only' option.

Any ideas.

Can Someone Check My Database?

I'm relatively new to this Access thing... and I just finished my first one. Well, not finished, as it doesn't work right! Can someone check it out for me and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

It's a customer database I'm making for my work, and I hope to really impress the boss with it! I have the form created to enter in all the customer info, but tab/enter don't go to the next field... and sometimes all the info will dissapear! Then it will re-appear if I go to enter a new contact!

The file is 560kb, so I can easily email it to anyone who will help. Thanks a million!!!

I have code working for some workers here ,who used to save excel files in a folder and my databse upload those files into database and then do the rest.I am looking for a code in vba which,on upload button matches the file in table and if the file already exists ,it should not upload again in the table and if it does not exists it should upload . I have attached my code below :

I would like to be able to check if a db is open and if it is to prevent the user from proceeding.

I use the Access 2013 Runtime. I can check if a db is open by trying to open Exclusively, using something like

Code: [URL] ....

But if the db is already open Not exclusively and I try to open it exclusively it does not raise an error and it allows the user to open the db in Read Only mode.

I would like to be able to prevent this, because careless and/or inexperienced users may open several instances of the db.

Of course, if the db is already open exclusively it does not allow you to open it exclusively another time.

Equipment And Personnel Check In And Out Database Using Barcode Reader

My desired output of this is to have a database to allow me to quickly check in and out equipment and personnel using a barcode scanner. I am using access 2013 and started with the asset tracking template downloaded from Microsoft. Where I am hung up right now is adding the personnel check in and out (each member of the team will have a barcode attached to their id) I want to be able to just scan their badge when they show up and again when they leave. At the end I will run a report that shows who was on scene (it is for a search and rescue team) during a certain day or time range.

I have added two new tables one check in and one check out the only fields are firedeptID and CheckIn or CheckOut a date/time field CheckIn and CheckOut Auto populatewith Now(). The first problem is that I think I need to turn off (if possible)the auto creation of a new record every time, when I scan in an ID right now that record gets the time stamp of the last time the new record was created IE.Last week when the last person scanned in and the new record was created. I assume I am going the same type of issue when I start working on checking out the equipment.

Modules & VBA :: Check For Specific Version Of A Ribbon To Connect To Database?

I have been trying to come up with a solution for a problem I am having for a while to no avail. We have a backend database that stores various tables full of data. We then have a custom Excel Ribbon that connects to the database and pulls in the different tables depending on the user selection form the ribbon. Everything is working well on that end. The problem I am running into though is that in the development phase of the ribbon and database we had multiple versions and so there are still some people who are using old versions of the ribbon and therefore not connecting properly to the database. Is there some type of code I can add into the database and ribbon where it checks for a specific version to ensure the user is using the most recent version?

Basically, before any type of query is run to connect to the database the ribbon would have some sort of label on it somewhere and the database would check for that label and if it is correct, the code proceeds and if not a message box appears that tells the user they are not using the most current version of the ribbon and exits the sub?

Q.1 - I need to run a query that displays the top 5 records in a table, how would I go about doing this?

Quick Question Regarding 0

Hello,

one of tables requires me to store sickness details, the sickness codes are all unique, they do however start with at least one 0 for example code - 000003 Description Stress. When you enter a code access automatically trims of the 0's to leave a 3.

Is there a way to override this im unaware of?

Bit of a newbie so help appreciated.

The system I have developed lists jobs (as in jobs that staff members need to go and do) in different towns and cities. These jobs are set as active or inactive depending if completed.

I need to run a report that allows the user to find active jobs in a particular town. I have made a query and by setting the status field to a criteria of "active" this ensures that all results in the query are only active ones.

I cannot find a way to allow the person running the search to enter the name of the town that they want. This would then allow the query and then report to list all "active" jobs in a particular town.


I have a table containing all the towns so hope I can offer the user running the search a means to either type the name of the town into a box or even better (to reduce typo's) be able to choose the town from a combo box.

Once the town has been selected, the report will list all active jobs in that particular town.

I'm writing a field where it shows a combination of many fields.
For example, when a user types in "abc" in field 1, "def" in field 2, "ghi" in field 3, I will have to combine the three fields into "abc/def/ghi" with slashes in between them. However I don't want to have any slashes at the front or at the back the field.
There are unlimited fields of "abc" "def" "ghi" "jkl" "mno" etc. Any idea how I can write the code? I'm thinking using if statements. Is there other ways I can do this?

Need Some Quick Advice

My Mgrs. have asked me to set up a spreadsheet to keep up with inventory for a certain section of the business. And I figured that in the long run it would be easier to set up a database instead of a spreadsheet. We have specific customers with specific products to keep together; and I have figured out how to fullfill this .... my problem lies with the actual inventory.

The questions:

1) Can I keep an Available tally for all products?
2) To ship out and receive in cargo do I need to make 2 tables or just 1?

I have to keep up with the location of the goods in the warehouse and I'm not sure if I should include that with the product table or a seperate inventory table.

I am not sure if I will be using the database to create 'orders' or what we call bills of lading to ship out the cargo so I'm a little lost on how to keep up with the quantity of each product in the warehouse. There is no 'reorder quantity' or anything like that. I just have to keep up with how much of each product I have in the warehouse. Then I also have to be able to keep track of what is received into the warehouse and what is shipped out of the warehouse.

Does any of this make sense? I'm so confused myself that I'm not sure that I am able to explain what I need or what my questions are without confusing any one I'm speaking with.

Quick Question On Relationships..

I'm importing a rather large CSV file that has many employees, repeated on several lines (one line per day) that contains performance information.

If I want to create a separate table that will contain basic information about each employee (for inclusion on reports), would that be accomplished with a relationship?

I can setup a query to pull up the information by employee name, but I of course receive more than one row since on the import an employee can be listed several times (multiple rows).

The two tables would not share any data, I just want a setup so when a report is generated and a specific employee appears, this information is generated with it. Thanks :)
