I have a database that has been functioning very well for nearly a year. Suddenly today, as I attempt to open a report (very complex report takes about 2 minutes to render), the database closes before displaying the report. I have moved the db from the server to my desktop and the same problem happens. It does not matter if I try to execute the report from the switchboard or from the Report Object List.
DB is 344,940KB. I have larger db's that work fine.
I don't know where to look for a way to stop this from happening. Nothing was done to the form design between the last time it worked properly, and today.
Access database 2007: I have a database with some forms init but when i type my username and password to open the main menu to insert data the form shows 1 second and closes the whole database. I don't know whether the problem is the VB code or the microsoft.
Hi, I want all the tables of my database to export to a zip file when the users exit the database. this will serve as a sort of a backup of the data. Is this possible? if so, how?
I've got a database, which has been working fine for the last 6 months, it's nt spectacularly large, or complex (abotu 10mb, 15 tables, (5 of which are lookups), about 20 forms, 40 reports, and 30 or so queries).
I've tried to add a new query today, again nothing special:
all comes from one table: column 1 - group by column 2 - max column 3 - if = "No" column 4 is an expression: iif (a=1,col_a,iif(a=2,col_b,iif(a=3,col_c, .... ))) and so on for 8 col_*'s
The query creates happily enough, and is viewable. When I try to save it, access shuts down completely with no warnings.
creating the query apart from the last column, saving it then works, but on adding the final column the database shuts down every time.
On opening my database, I have a switchboard that opens up.
How do also run a report automatically just after the switchboard screen opens. To make the switchboard open when I click on my database, I went to tools..> startup. But I don't know how to run a report automatically after that.
I have a report based on a query that has data for many dates. At the moment I have put a specific date in the criteria of the query so that I could build the report format. So it now displays all the data for the date i have in the criteria section. I will need to run this report several times per week so the specified date (and corresponding data in the report) will need to be changed to a new date when I open the report i.e. when I open my report I want to show data in the report only for a specified date.
Can I create a date parameter box open up when I open the report? Can I create a form with a button that when I click will open the report displaying data for that date? What would be the best way?I also need to display the specified date on the report.
I'm a bit of a newbie, so lets just get that out of the way....
I have a field in a table that was originally a text data type. I want to change it to a "lookup" data type using the lookup wizard. However, Access doesn't allow me to do this and prompts me with "You can't change the data type....its part of one or more relationships...". But there are no relationships? There may have been previously, but I've deleted them all from Relationships window.
This has happened several times now. I am in the process of designing the database and have been changing my mind about data types when I realize that I can use a lookup data type. The only fix I have found is to make a copy of the table in question and then change the data type of the problem field. Unfortunately this screws up my forms...which is a pain.
Why would Access say that there are relationships in the relationships window when in fact there are none?
I've attach a copy of my db. The field in question is located in the "Activities" table. The field name is "ACTIVITY_NAME". I am trying to use a lookup from the activityNames table using the "ActivityName" column.
I have a form with 7 List boxes linked to 7 Query's which in turn are linked to a table. Each list box if for a particular trade.
I am trying to select a person or persons from each List box and then have them sent to a report. I have Code to do one list box, but do not know how to link all boxes with code to a 'Open report' button.
The code I am using is as follows:-
Private Sub cmdOpenReport_Click() On Error GoTo Err_cmdOpenReport_Click Dim strWhere As String Dim ctl As Control Dim varItem As Variant 'make sure a selection has been made
The correct way is the following: Inc# 2546 ^ capital I, no space between "c" and "#" but a space AFTER the "#"
Then the 4 digit long number.I was thinking along the lines of trying to identify the number, removing everything else and then placing "Inc# " before it... currently we allow notes, which should be made like such: Inc# 2546 - Notes.however, people have their own method for this too (however most of them are at least after then incident number so that makes things much easier)another issue is on the same database, some manual requests also appear which have different entry format: RQ# GK034LW2052 but that contains a mixture of letters and numbers... so when identifying the request number... as long as I make sure that it is a number and not a string of numbers and letters, I should be ok..
I am a newbie here so i dont know all the cool names and phrases for everything so be gentle with me :).
My boss wants me to make it so the address of a company automatically pops up in the database, so if they call multiple times, the user doesnt have to keep putting the address in. If the company hasnt called before, the user would have to fill out a company form that pops up if the companys name isnt already in the database. Any info on how to do this would be EXTREMELY helpful.
I also need to know how to make access send you an email if certain information hasn't been finalized after a certain period of time.
Thanks for your help guys. Ive been stuck on these problems for A WHILE to say the least...
I have the need to display the return of my "Sum Query" to display in a text box.
I need the attached below value (40500) in the "SumofQuery" attachment, which updates every 5 minutes to display on the "StatusBoard" attachment text box.
I have been searching for a good 10 hours on how to do this and still cannot find it.
I'm trying to import a text file with 273 fields into two tables. I've been able to do this with the code I found on an old thread and I'm now trying to accomplish everything with one step. The file I'm importing is tab delimited text file. With this current code I'm only able to populate the first record in the table and then I get error message. (Run-time error '3265') (Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the reqested name or ordinal).
Code:
Public Sub ImportTextFile() ' to use the ADODB.Recordset, be sure you have a reference set to ADO Dim rst As ADODb.Recordset Dim rst2 As ADODb.Recordset Dim strFile As String Dim strInput As String Dim varSplit As Variant Dim intCount As Integer
i have a database that runs updates from within itself.what i need is, this database to then open a another database run a update query, then close it.
How can I make certain my user enters records on a subform before attempting to save the main form? Right now they can completely ignore the subform before saving the record. The Main form has business address, etc. on it. the subform is bound to a join table that lists the multiple categories, subcategories and sector the business is listed in for a directory.
I already have my fields set to required at the table level in the join table, and have some existing VBA in both my subform (to update edited date) and my form (to validate empty records where a certain condition is met) but that's not the issue...
How do I focus the user to enter a record on the subform to the point where they are forced to enter something and complete the subform before the record is updated.
I run several databases daily - after running two of them (at different times), the database itself closes but the Access program stays open. In order to close that program, I have to close it out using the Task Manager.
Any suggested solutions? Thanks (as always) for your assistance.
What would cause Access to suddenly close without warning while busy with a query?
No error messages, nothing! The query is a fairly big one that normally takes about 6 minutes to run, but has had no problem with it for a number of years. A new drive used for back-up purposes was recently fitted to my PC which now has 3 internal hard drives.
Could this problem be caused by a bad memory handling configuration? The original setup that worked before may have been changed when the new drive was installed. The XP Page File size for example may have been changed.
I created a form with an "exit" button and a "return to main menu" button on the form. but when I am on the last data and press tab the form closes automatically. what could be the reason. Do I have to put some condition on the macro I have created for the two buttons listed above. I have just put "action" without any conditions on both the two buttons.
I have a form that records when a user edits a record. This change is only recorded when the user clicks the "update record/save" command button. What I need help with is capturing the changes made when a user edits the record in any field and doesn't click the save button upon closing the form. If the user doesn't edit any fields in the record, a new instance of this edit will not be saved to my edited records table and the form just closes
I created an MDE file for my application it's a split db when I hit the exit command button on the MDB version it quits the application correctly but when I do the same thing on the MDE version, it leaves the database window open on the taskbar.
I have an access2000 db. Many tables, forms, reps ect... at random times it will just close. Don't know why. No errors, no reason why. It just closes. Is this common and is there any fix?
I've searched for ages looking for threads on backing up a database, and even found one which was asking exactly what I need but without solutions given.
I have a split database with BE and FE, which is used by about 20 users. When the last user closes the database I would like the database to be automatically backed up (e.g. when no one is using it). I've found threads on scheduling a backup, it the middle of the night for example, and other threads on backing up while users are logged on, but I'm not really keen to use these approaches.
