I am brand new to Access. I know a fair amount about excel. However I think Access may provide a better platform for what I am looking to do. With that being said i have some questions.
I am looking to create a database. However this database will very seldomly have new information added. Information may be updated here or there. Most of what i have researched uses access to create a database that will constantly have new info added.
What i am looking to do is to create a database that will have drop downs that merely link to other "databases" to view.
Example: I have have a database in excel that has one main interface. when you click on a cell it takes you to a new worksheet with multiple entries that fall under that group. and repeats itself. each cell on this page will is linked to another worksheet.
Lets say these groups are named; 1,2,3,4. Any time you click on on of these, it takes you to a new worksheet that has info for each group. Once on the new worksheet, it will give you the drop downs for these values and if one is selected it will take you to the new worksheet (show the new info) once again.
I can't find any info on this error through google, so i'm not sure what step to take next. Any advice would be great, I'm willing to try out other databases (obviously retyping the data would be a pain in the arm but if it works its worth it)
I have two third-party library programs that allow you to type in an ISBN and the software searches, say Amazon, and grabs particular missing data: author, cover jpg and summary etc, and imports the info to the program. I'd like to replicate this process with Access. If I can type in an author, title or ISBN to Access, I'd like it to search Amazon to gather and input the missing data to my assigned fields. Is this possible? Or am I stuck to typing in the information separately.
I am totally new to access and i want to be able to extract information from my database using a form. Basically I am using the database to generate a bill of materials. I have a product that has many different options. SO I want ot select a checkbox on a form for a particular option and hten have that extract the correct data from the DB into a report or spreadsheet.
setup a data base in Access that collects information from the attached spreadsheet pictures from A1:FO26...Spreadsheet is macro enabled and updates automatically with data.have tried to setup Access data base but when Excel Tab updates it copies over the data that was last copied into Access.
Does anyone know how I can create a form which asks for the name or lastname of the customer and does a search throuout the database and brings up all that customers informtation. And if their is more than one thats are the same you can switch through them untill you find the right one.
I have several data entry forms in my DB. What I would like to do is capture the windows user name of the people adding records and changing records. How do I go about doing that? I was think of an on change event to a given field that would then pull the username and insert it in another field/object.
Lets say the an on change of me.cmbModel update txtUserName.
If you are using a form as a sort of user interface and you've got a user entering in information into the form, is there any way possible to print a preview of the currently entered form information without saving it to the database first?
I'm thinking a kind of validation thing. Like, "Click here and preview what you've entered. Sure this is what you want?" type of thing.
i have been trying to create an employee database to record:
1. Name , Address 2. Telephone 3. Date of birth 4. employee ID# 5. Emergency contact -name, address, telephone 6. Photograph 7. Other pertinent information related to employees
So far I have incorporated the contacts database forms into my new database but I am unable to link the forms into one form that will incorporate all the information needed. Is there an existing employee database that I may edit to suit my purposes?
I am working on a computer task for school and i want to add a field to a database that displays pictures of different kinds of fish. I've been searching for a solution on the internet the whole morning, but i cant seem to get it right. Some sights recommend inserting an OLE object, while others say i should insert the paths in a textfield. The second option sounded the best, but how do i insert the path and how do i get the database to display the pictures? I know the images should be saved in the same file in the database. Can I only insert bitmap images or is it possible to use jpeg?
I am attempting to create a patient tracking database for a clinic I work in and I am stuck at one small but major part.
I have a parent form called frm_Patient_index. On this form you can enter patient details such as personal details, observations ect. I need to create a lab request form for certain tests to be performed.
I want so that a button on the frm_patient_index form opens a subform where the relevent tests can be requested via tick boxes. Now here is my problem I have managed to create all of that except for the information to be entered into the frm_lab_request automatically and get SAVED to its corresponding table. It will not save for me.
I can get the information such as Badge Number, First Name, Surname and DOB to all enter into the fields automatically but getting them to save to the table is not happening.
When I attempt to open any of my Access databases I am presented only with the form that has been selected as the 'startup' option. Furthermore, it seems to be impossible to switch to 'design' view and my only options on the toolbar are File, Edit, Insert, Records, Windows, Help. As far as I can tell, none of these enable me to select the options required to give me my entire database back.
I am something of an Access novice, so if the above problem seems familiar to anyone i'd be grateful for the solution! The help option within MS Access hasn't been particularly useful.
Greetings, I have my database set up to open to my switchboard. I would like to set up a macro to would allow me to return to the main database design view as needed. I have set up a "close" macro that I use to close the open form. This works well to return me to the main database design view as long as I only have one form open. Can anyone help me with the (admittedly) simple process of writing a macro that would allow me to return directly to the main database design view.
I have a database with company locations which I want to have on a map. Is there any possibility to embed a map (Goolge Maps or Bing Maps) where it points all the locations of the companies which exist in my database?
I have two linked tables (uneditable). They are linked by PersonID and they also have email address in common. For sake of example let's say one table has names of people, and the other table has the address they live at.
I have a user who requires a "datasheet" view of certain columns from each table. No problem, can do that easily in a query.
The issue is that he also wants to have an editable column that would have say "Address Confirmed". Clearly I need another table. If I make a three table query I find no way to edit that new column.
This problem has been causing to pull my hair out all morning, so any help would be most welcome.
The business I work for hired a contractor to produce a database, he did a great job and it looks very professional, but he used an ActiveX control to display four months at once, it is a fairly common control but it seems it is not included in the Image for the workstations here (it will be soon).
The OLE class is called MSComCtl2.MonthView.2 and I remembered using the date time picker control (MSComCtl2.DTPicker.2) and I figured that it would make sense if it was in the same ActiveX control, so I registered Mscomct2.ocx and yes, it does contain the right class... but it still didn't work. I found a second control package which also included the class, comct232.ocx (older but it should work) and finally, both of them together do work... for all but one user. It isn't the workstation, anyone else logging into that workstation has no problems.
The problem cropping up is the "control has no object" error and it suggests that I unregister then re-register the OLE server (which is another word for the .ocx files for those not in the know) which I did, and it complains about a missing reference to C:WINNTsystem32Mscomct2.ocx if you look at the references in the VBE editor which makes very little sense to me.
The users do not have admin rights to there computers, but I'm thinking of temporarily adding the user to the admin group (on her computer only obviously) and un-registering then re-registering the control there. That seens abit extreme, and it should just work!
This is driving me nuts, anyone know what I'm missing here?
I have a form with a Treeview in. I have it populated from a self-referencing database using the following code.
Code: Private Sub Form_Load() Const strTableQueryName = "SELECT * FROM tblHierarchy ORDER BY tblHierarchy.Function_Parent;" Dim db As DAO.Database, rst As DAO.Recordset Set db = CurrentDb Set rst = db.OpenRecordset(strTableQueryName, dbOpenDynaset, dbReadOnly)
[Code] ....
The database this is referencing is about 30000 lines and it takes ~4 minutes to populate this way. I know Treeview isn't really supposed to be used in this way however it's what is required.
Now I have come up with the theory that I will populate each node with children as its clicked to be expanded.
Hard to see the image but basically, I can't seem to bring the database behind the form to the front to view it when I click on it. I've never encountered this before.
On occasion my access database all of a sudden begins to operate very slowly, I notice the queries take a much longer time to run.
Last week it suddenly began to operate very slowly after idling in excess of 30 mins
Today when I change the screen to design view and then back to form view once again it begins to operate very slowly. (yesterday was working fine on my desktop at home, I have not made any changes to the database with exception to saving and using the file this morning on the shared drive at work) If I shut down and re open it operates well but once again changing to design view causes the same issue. Sometimes compact and repair rectifies sometimes not.
Is there way a to get this audit trail module to work with a form in Datasheet view? It works fine with a form in Single Form view; I can open the table where the audits are saved and everything looks good. But when implemented on a form in datasheet view, nothing happens. I don't get any errors and nothing is saved to the audit table.
Link : [URL] ....
Here's the vba code:
Sub AuditChanges(IDField As String, UserAction As String) On Error GoTo AuditChanges_Err Dim db As DAO.Database Dim rsT As DAO.Recordset Dim ctl As Control Dim datTimeCheck As Date Dim strUserID As String
[Code] ...
You call it in the BeforeUpdate event like so:
Code: Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) 'Track all changes made to the record If Me.NewRecord Then Call AuditChanges("Asset_ID", "NEW") Else Call AuditChanges("Asset_ID", "EDIT") End If End Sub
I have created a database for a church cemetery. It contains the usual names, birthrates deaths, etc.... I have also created a map of the cemetery in PDF format with the lot number highlighted which is assigned to a particular record. I did the same in excel with a layout of the lot and a JPEG picture of the grave marker. In my table I created Three columns - Site Plan, Lot Plan, and Grave marker. I insert the specific site plan, lot plan, and jpeg picture using the "insert object" in the table. On my form after a search, I have created three buttons.. Site Plan, Lot Plan & Grave Marker.
I have looked and experimented trying to assign these command buttons to open these files on the form. I don't have any experience with macros or VB code.
